In one of those quick polls I use to make showing post alternatives to friends, the great GK said something very important, he said that Tito Madi deserves more posts at Loronix. I agree with GK, so I decided to start with what is considered Tito Madi most successful and important albums, the first out of the four of his A Fossa series, recoded respectively in 1971, 1972, 1973, and 1974 for London, which is a subsidiary of Odeon.

This is Tito Madi – A Fossa (1971), for London. For a long time, I though this “A Fossa” series was dedicated to the same A Fossa style, which is a kind of romantic Samba Cancao with influences of Boleros and American Ballads. However, Fossa is the name of a nightclub in Rio de Janeiro where Tito Madi performed several years in the 70′s. This series brings these fantastic phsychodelic covers that you cannot stop starring and finding new details. Let’s see how Loronixers feedback this release. Tracks include:

01 – Apelo (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Pra Dizer Adeus (Edu Lobo / Torquato Neto)
03 – Canção da Volta (Ismael Netto / Antônio Maria)
04 – Cansei de Ilusões (Tito Madi)
05 – De Onde Vens (Dori Caymmi / Nelson Motta)
06 – Chuvas de Verão (Fernando Lobo)
07 – Sonho e Saudade (Tito Madi)
08 – Esquecendo Você (Tom Jobim)
09 – Pra Você (Silvio César)
10 – Eu e a Brisa (Johnny Alf)
11 – Fiz do Amor Meu Canto (Tito Madi / William Prado)
12 – Reverso (Marino Pinto / Gilberto Milfont) Se o Tempo Entendesse (Marino Pinto / Mário Rossi) Sucedeu Assim (Tom Jobim / Marino Pinto)

I think that everybody knows that the Brazilian pianist Pedrinho Mattar has passed today at the age of 70, Sao Paulo state Santos city. It is disturbing because I had the chance today several of Pedrinho Mattar out of print records. Now I’m sad without a single Pedrinho Mattar album for a tribute. Pedrinho Mattar is great, part of my childhood memories and an important musician that build part of my decision to be also a musician with his TV shows. Probably Caetano will send us a good Pedrinho Mattar LP for a late, but proper homage to this great musician.

Stay with this great Tito Madi record, already scheduled to close the day. I spoke with Caetano about this record and he was very happy to see Sonho e Esperanca at Loronix. bossanovadreamer also gave nice feedback on this album, saying that it is among his Tito Madi favorites.

This is Tito Madi – Sonho e Esperanca (1961), for Columbia, with Orquestra lead by Maestro Lyrio Panicalli and Astor Silva. Tracks include:

01 – Sonho e Esperança (Sergio Malta)
02 – Quero Paz (Ricardo Galeno / Cirene Mendonça)

05 – Meu Amor Perdão (Ivon Cury)
06 – Dormir Sonhar (Vadico / Herberto Sales)

Hello, Good Night! 2007 is having a fast start in terms of work and Loronix. This makes zecalouro feels very happing and willing to share and work hard to make a better Loronix to all his friends. Some great stuff is being prepared by zecalouro to please Loronixers during the forthcoming half of this year. It will be amazing.

I received a tip from our friend Caio at CBox to post this LP, when I get back now to pick his name and write his line, the friend Lula asked if Caetano could give this LP to zeca. Very good and friendly conversation. Caetano has this record, but zecalouro has also this time. Let’s address these friends’ requests.

This is Claudette Soares – Fiz do Amor o Meu Canto (1976), for Odeon, Claudette Soares tribute to Tito Madi with all songs by Tito Madi. Just as Caio said, there are great arrangements supporting Claudette Soares interpretation for Tito Madi compositions, unfortunately, I could not track who is in charge of the arrangements. Anyway, this is a great start for this rainy Saturday in Rio de Janeiro that I hope you will appreciated just as our friends should. Tracks include:

01 – Cansei de Ilusões (Tito Madi)

I was thinking about the best post to close the day – What a great day with those amazing photos provided by Jean Yves – when suddenly the rain started. It was what I need to remember and decide to share with Loronixers another wonderful album provided by Caetano. The only problem was to make the cover scans when I remembered that the lamp I use to make the photos was broken. The passion of music never stops us; I left the house with a heavy rain just to buy a new lamp.

Now I’m wet, but prepared to present Tito Madi – Chove La Fora (1957), for Copacabana, the first Tito Madi 10″ record. What a nice record, great cover artwork with 8 tracks to fit the 10″ format. Tito Madi has the help of his favorite pianist Ribamar e Seu Conjunto, complemented by the great Chiquinho do Acordeon, Carlinhos on guitar, Lincoln (Ed Lincoln?) on bass and Julinho on drums, all highlighted below. Thanks Caetano for always amazes us with these impossible to find albums. Check personnel and tracks.

And the last post goes to… Tito Madi – Romance (1961). Why zecalouro is saying that? Easy, as day passes, it has been really hard to decide the last post. Today, the choices were all great, solid records from end to end, but Tito Madi was selected.

Actually, I was planning the first Tito Madi LP, A Saudade Mata a Gente (1958), but the cover available here is not on a good resolution, great disappointment. Anyway you will have a lot to discover in Romance, a nice LP with Maestro Lyrio Panicali helping Tito with orchestra and chorus arrangements. A truly beautiful record that I hope you like. If you have the cover artwork of A Saudade Mata a Gente, feel free to share with us; it is another great Tito Madi LP. Tracks include:

01 – A Menina Sonha Azul (Tito Madi)
02 – A Canção da Esperança (Luis Arruda Paes / Ribeiro Filho)
03 – Ternura Antiga (Dolores Duran / Ribamar)
04 – Malagueña (Elpídio Ramirez / Pedro Galindo)
05 – Cansaço (Ruy Barros)
06 – Pedrinhas de Cor (Armando Nunes / Cícero Nunes)
07 – Ai de Mim (Capiba)
08 – Amor Em Pedaços (Gilberto Panicali / Fernando César)
09 – Nunca Me Esqueça (Never Forget Me) (D. Powell / Vrs. Tito Madi)
10 – Mi Dicha Lejana (E. Ayala Baez)
11 – A Voz dos Sinos (Othon Russo / Nazareno de Brito)

Tito Madi – De Amor se Fala (1964)

Mr. X strikes again and makes zecalouro remembers a missing Brazilian artist, Tito Madi, singer, composer, a true genius that started in the 50′s and continues performing his art in the 21st century.

As we are getting used with Mr. X selections, he made his best this time with Tito Madi – De Amor se Fala (1964) with several well-know Bossa Nova classics and arrangements in charge of the Maestro Lyrio Panicali, which guarantees a nice quality music. zecalouro is making available AMG bio for complimentary information on Tito Madi. Tracks include:

01 – Ah Eu Não Sei (Tito Madi)
02 – Se Meu Coração Pedir (Tito Madi)
03 – Balanço Zona Sul (Tito Madi)
04 – Final Sem Adeus (Romeo Nunes)
05 – Canção Praieira (Tito Madi / Luis Peixoto)
06 – Chove Lá Fora (Tito Madi)
07 – Vai e Diz Adeus (Tito Madi)
08 – Garota Paulista (Tito Madi)
09 – Rio Triste (Tito Madi)
10 – Meu Mar (Romeo Nunes / Tito Madi)
11 – De Amor Se Fala (Tito Madi)
12 – Rio Moço (Tito Madi / Luis Peixoto)

One of the singers and composers of the samba-canção era intuitively connected with the soon-to-be stylistic revolution of bossa nova, Tito Madi anticipated several features of this movement in the sophisticated harmonies of his influential compositions and relaxed vocal renditions, recorded on 44 albums. His first big hit and one of his biggest ever, “Chove Lá Fora” was recorded in 1957, and was also highly praised by critics and awarded several times. The song was also recorded with success by the Platters and Della Reese in the U.S. under the title “It’s Raining Outside.” The Platters also recorded his “Quero-te Assim” (“I Wish”) and “Rio Triste” (“Sad River”). “Balanço Zona Sul” is another of his most important classics, followed by “Menina Moça” (Luís Antônio), “Canção dos Olhos Tristes,” “Chove Outra Vez” (with Romeu Nunes), “Sonho e Saudade,” and “Amor e Paz.”

He started playing music early and was interested in an artistic career by age six. Madi already was one of the directors of the local radio station (Rádio Pirajuí) at 18. “Eu Espero Você,” his first composition, was written when he was 20, and four years later his valse “Eu e Você” was recorded by Os Quatro Amigos. In 1952, he was hired by Tupi (São Paulo) and worked there for two years before he was appointed Revelation Singer of the Year for his recording of his compositions “Pirajuí” and “Não Diga Não,” both written with Georges Henri. Moving to Rio de Janeiro, he became a crooner in several hot nightclubs in a period that the traditional repertory of those venues was being highly influenced by jazz. Among his most important albums it can be mentioned the four volumes of his A Fossa, recorded respectively in 1971, 1972, 1973, and 1974. He continues to perform, and signed with the Dubas label in 2001, the same year he released Ilhas Cristais.
