I’m confident someone finds Altamiro Carrilho e Sua Flauta Azul 10-inch as described bellow. It will fantastic to have this album back to Altamiro and Jornal Musical and also a great accomplish to our community. Anyway, once again I do not have arguments to explain why the debut LP of this so adored artist was not released before. This is a great album, different from the later works of Wilson Simonal and you will have a high quality entertainment with it.

This is Wilson Simonal – Tem Algo Mais (1963), for Odeon, Wilson Simonal debut LP, featuring orchestral arrangements by Maestro Lyrio Panicalli. Do not think you will get a groovy samba flavored Wilson Simonal on his debut, this is a nice Bossa Nova album with Wilson Simonal singing smooth, supported by Maestro Lyrio Panicalli. Definitively, the early 60′s was the peak years for Brazilian male singers; several nice works are from this period, such like the early works of Pery Ribeiro and others. Tracks include:

O Loronix e o Jornal Musical se uniram em desafio que somente pode ser resolvido com a ajuda de nossa comunidade, a busca de uma capa de um dos discos mais raros do Brasil, Altamiro Carrilho – Altamiro Carrilho e Sua Flauta Azul (1957), Continental LPP 44, 10 polegadas. Nem o próprio Altamiro Carrilho tem esse disco, o que faz nossa missão ser das mais difíceis.

Essa busca não está começando agora, ela foi iniciada há alguns meses em colaboração com o blog International Restored LP, um grande amigo do Loronix que faço questão de dar meus parabéns ao IRLP por ter encontrado os fonogramas e disponibilizado para a nossa comunidade,aqui, dessa vez, sem o Rapidshare.

Entretanto, precisamos encontrar a capa e contracapa do disco e essa é a ajuda que estamos solicitando aos Loronixers. Faremos da seguinte forma, o primeiro que enviar uma cópia digitalizada em alta resolução da capa e contracapa do Flauta Azul, receberá do Jornal Musical este CD-ROM da figura que abre esse post, com a discografia dos LPs essenciais da Musica Brasileira, uma das mais completas discografias disponíveis na Internet. Loronix and Jornal Musical are joining forces to ask for your participation on a mission that only a community like Loronix can accomplish: the search for the cover artwork of the first 10-inch recorded by the Brazilian musician Altamiro Carrilho, his first LP, Altamiro Carrilho – Altamirro Carrilho e Sua Flauta Azul (1957), Continental LPP 44, one of the rarest Brazilian records ever, a missing piece even on the personal Altamiro Carrilho collection.

We are not starting the search today, we have been on field for more than a few months in collaboration with International Restored LP blog, which I want to send my regards for finding the music and making it available to Loronix and Jornal Musical. Through the courtesy of International Restored LP, this is the music, no Rapidshare, here.

However, we could not find the cover artwork and this is why we are looking for the help of our community. The first who sends an email to zecalouro@gmail.com with high quality scans of front and back cover will be receiving a CD-ROM with Jornal Musical Brazilian Discography, one of the most complete Brazilian music discographies available on the web. Loronix will also be giving a LP from the personal zecalouro collection, Eliana Pittman & Trio 3D – Ao Vivo (1968), Copacabana CLP 11528, with an autograph by Eliana Pittman.

Hello, Good Evening! I was checking the last five days and without knowing all first posts made were from obscure artists and the hard to find albums. This time I decided to make a test drive with some Loronixers that are also vinyl collectors and none of the friends had seen this group and this album before. Let’s keep the pace and show Loronixers another Marcelo “Sambasonics” Munhoz contribution that probably you never heard about.

This is Samba 5 – Moderninho (1970), for Tropicana. Little is known about Samba 5, probably a quintet that released only this LP for the label Tropicana. Personnel is also unknown and it seems to be recorded by known musicians, the drummer plays very nice and the record was mixed to highlight his work. Thanks for another one, Marcelo. Tracks include:

Once again I had to ask for help of friends on-line to build the last post decision, not so easy this time. I had the help of 3 Loronixers, leaving Google talk with a decision made and then reaching the next friend for a validation, changing everything again. I’m happy with this decision, this album is not an unanimity, some friends like it, some others don’t, but I think it is unique, full or charm and beautiful.

This is Baden Powell & Stephane Grappelli – La Grande Reunion (1974), for Festival (France). La Grande Reunion was record in only two days and zecalouro is presenting the first volume with eight of the fifteen songs recorded on that set. I was wondering how they could make fifteen songs in only two days with such different instruments without never being together before. Stephane Grappelli is one of the greatest Jazz violinists of all time, playing an important role on establishing the violin as a Jazz instrument. Tracks include:

If you understand Portuguese, you will have a lot of fun with this movie and if you don’t, it will be also nice. This is an excerpt of a Brazilian TV show from the 70′s, Flavio Cavalcanti. They are running a contest in this movie, giving a subject to two composers and let them make a song. The best song wins the contest.

The composers are Lupiscinio Rodrigues and Adelino Moreira and Maysa, Erlon Chaves, Carlos Imperial and many other artists that we will have a lot of fun together trying to identify compose the group of people that will select the winner.If someone can list all known artists on this video, please, feel free to write comments. A couple of weeks ago, Quimsy called my attention to this record and I could easily associate why zecalouro thought Ana Lucia was the mysterious singer at an early challenge released at Loronix, made available again at post closing. Does she look very like the mysterious singer? I still think Ana Lucia is the mysterious singer on that challenge, but I accept she is Julie Joy. Actually, everybody agrees the mysterious singer is Julie Joy. Forgetting the challenge, let’s talk about this album (but I’m still in doubt about it).

This is Ana Lucia – Caminhos (1970), for Ebrau. It is important to do not take this Ana Lucia as another singer with the same name, being released months ago at Loronix, I made this mistake several times. If you take both singers for a hearing you will confirm they are pretty different from each other. I think this Ana Lucia is better. Little is known about her and any further info is really appreciated. Tracks include:

Let’s start the day with this contribution from the great Sabadabada, the pioneer, holding the Brazilian music flag at the Internet since September 2004. zecalouro urges the new Loronix friends to take a time and visit Sabadabada (http://www.sabadabada.com) to browser the pretty organized cover section and also check the nice albums available. This is Luiz Carlos Ismail – Samba Jovem (1965), for CBS, or just Luiz Carlos as the cover suggests. Luiz Carlos Ismail is a big charade, Googling his name, I could find only records with Luiz Carlos as composer, no consistent information about his albums and solo career. Luiz Claudio has the accompaniment of Conjunto CBS, also unknown, but makes a nice work as a Bossa Jazz combo at this album. zecalouro is following the steps of Maestro Eumir Deodato since one week before his trip to Brazil for a series of concerts in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Before his arriving, we had Ideias, his second solo LP. By the time he made his first concert in Sao Paulo, we had the chance to see Inutil Paisagem, his first LP, dedicated to Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Eumir Deodato starts today the first out of two concerts in Rio de Janeiro and this time we will present another important album, recorded when Eumir Deodato was already established in the U.S. that landmark a major change on his career.

This is Eumir Deodato – Prelude (1973), for CTI. I like this record very much and it is notable how a Eumir Deodato managed with a great success an album so different from his previous works, dedicated to Bossa Nova. I will let you with AMG Richard S. Ginell this time, showing also tracks. Tracks include:

Prior to Prelude, Eumir Deodato was primarily known, if at all, as a tasteful, lyrical, bossa nova-based sometime arranger for the likes of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Frank Sinatra, Wes Montgomery, and others. Enter Creed Taylor, who gave Deodato a chance to step out on his own as a pianist/leader, doing a few tunes of his own plus a healthy quota of CTI-patented jazz interpretations of classical pieces by Richard Strauss (“Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001)”), Debussy (“Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun”), and bowdlerized Borodin (“Baubles, Bangles and Beads”). Well, “2001″ — a clever, up-tempo Latin-groove takeoff on the opening measures of Strauss’ tone poem suddenly exploded and became an improbable hit single. In its wake, Prelude soared to number three on the pop LP charts, and Deodato was propelled out of the arranger-for-hire business. Though overshadowed by “2001,” the other tracks also hold up well today, being mostly medium-tempo, sometimes lushly orchestrated, conga-accented affairs that provide velvety showcases for Deodato’s lyrical electric piano solos. The record also made a temporary star out of John Tropea, whose electric guitar has a lot of rock & rolling zip and fire, and Hubert Laws, Stanley Clarke, and Marvin Stamm each get a little solo room too. This would be the biggest hit Deodato and CTI ever had, and though short on playing time (32 minutes), it still makes enjoyable listening.

I want to start today greeting the new friends arriving at Loronix today recommended by Ricardo Noblat, the owner and maintainer of what is considered the best political Brazilian blog, O Blog do Noblat. Once again, little is known about Jorge Autuori, his Trio members and their further activities after releasing four albums for Mocambo, RCA Victor and Top Tape. Jorge Autuori is a top-notch drummer, recognized by his style very similar to Milton Banana, playing Bossa Nova such like drummers uses to make in the 60′s. Tracks include:

Several facts came to my attention in the last days to decide for this post, actually, I didn’t realize how popular Taiguara was before we made the video challenge showing Copacabana beach with Taiguara singing in the background. It was the easiest Challenge ever and I was confident that nobody would guess it so quickly. The second fact was the last Sivuca & Rosinha de Valenca album recorded at Projeto Seis e Meia in Rio. I received a video showing Taiguara performing the song that titles this album at the same Project and the same Theater. All roads leads to Taiguara, let’s see.

This is Taiguara – Hoje (1969), for Odeon. In spite of his successful career as a singer, Taiguara is also a composer, arranger and researcher on Latin and African music, mainly from his homeland, Uruguai. This is a self explanatory release and I’m confident will generate several comments, Taiguara fans are many. This video is being reposted due the better quality provided by the mighty Luiz Harding and uniqueness, showing The Weather Report and the Brazilian drummer Dom Um Romao, performing the role of percussionist. Dom Um Romao seems to be the main performing using several weird instruments, including a tamanco or clog in English, which is a type of shoe or sandal made out of wood. We will have a lot of fun with these new images. Do not forget to use the increase lens.

Miltinho is an always claimed artist, claimed with energy by many friends on several channels, email, orkut, CBox, comments and not eventually, but weekly, even daily. I hope this widely unknown Miltinho sent by Caetano Rodrigues makes the day of everybody tomorrow morning, Miltinho is a great Samba singer, a perfect close for the weekend putting energy on your Monday.

This is Miltinho – Bossa e Balanco (1963), for RGE. Miltinho released his first LP in 1960, the acclaimed Um Novo Astro with Sexteto Sideral. Bossa and Balanco, released in 1963 is not the second or third Miltinho album, but his tenth LP released in almost four years. It is funny, Miltinho urges radio DJs at the back cover to play his record, so he will have the chance of make another one. Bossa e Balanco is arranged by Maestro Carioca, Waltel Branco, Nelsinho and Jose Meneses.

Here comes again Caetano Rodrigues showing this time a fantastic and recommended album recorded by a Brazilian artist never released before at Loronix. We talk about Claudio Roditi, a Brazilian pistonist that moved to the United States in 1970 to study in Berklee and built his career in the US. Roditi played with Herbie Mann, Charlie Rouse and started a long-term relationship with Paquito de Rivera in the early 80′s. Let’s check Caetano’s pick.

This is something that we never spoke before at Loronix and it is the time to introduce friends to Grupo Manifesto, created in 1965 by a group of friends with no identified leader. Much more than a musical group, Grupo Manifesto was a group of friends who got together in a botequim(*) at Rua Gustavo Sampaio, Leme. I’m not sure if Grupo Manifesto took the name of the bar or the bar got this name from the group. I live close to this street and never heard about this Manifesto botequim. Perhaps they close it before making the move to here. This is the second and last LP released by Grupo Manifesto, let’s see what we have here.

This is Grupo Manifesto – Grupo Manifesto Nr. 2 (1968), for Elenco, featuring several friends that became later recognized Brazilian artists, as follow: Amauri Tristão, Fernando Leporace, Guto Graça Melo, Mariozinho Rocha, Augusto César Pinheiro, José Renato Filho, Junaldo, Lucelena, Gracinha Leporace and Guarabyra. Lucelena is also known as Lucina from the duo Luhli e Lucina. It is a really different record with everybody alternating vocals on tracks making a really nice outcome. Tracks include:

(*) Botequim (and its variation boteco) is a place where Brazilians often go to drink, eat and chat. A good translation could be pub but this is not so simple. A good botequim has its peculiarities, mainly the simplicity of the decoration (usually related to soccer teams) and the “high-fat” food but the most important is the friendly environment.
