I remember the whole story, I was on that vinyl fair in Sao Paulo with Caetano Rodrigues, I was happy like a clown with dirty fingers browsing thousands of old Brazilian LPs. Caetano came close to me with this LP on his hand saying: “Take it! It is almost new, cheap and it is a great bargain…”, I saw the cover with this marble background and I did not get inspired, so I asked Caetano, why? And he said on his trademark sentence: “É, muuuuito bom!” or “It is veeeeeery good”, in english.

Once again, Caetano was absolute right about it, this is an amazing record, zecalouro likes to hear it and is starting to make sounds such like piano. I’m very happy to show it to Loronixers.

This is Quarteto Nostalgia – Quarteto Nostalgia (1960), for Berverly. Quarteto Nostalgia is all about a musician, Chaim Lewak, the pianist of Quarteto Nostalgia. Caetano Rodrigues is a big fan of Chaim Lewak and asked also that zecalouro makes a short Chaim bios, as follows: Chaim Lewak was born in Israel and arrived in Brazil in 1955, hired by the legendary Vogue nightclub. In spite of being a foreigner musician, Chaim got the Brazilian way of playing very fast, becoming a legend in the night of Rio de Janeiro. Chaim also played and collaborated on several records from Moacyr Silva. Chaim Lewak is not in Brazil, the date he left is uncertain, he moved to the United States and is probably active until today.

It is very hard to track down information about Chaim Lewak, so I invite you to take this record with you and to hear a great Jazz piano player, one of Caetano’s favorite artists and so far one of my favorites 2007 records. Tracks include:

01 – Nunca (Lupicínio Rodrigues)
02 – Por Causa de Você (Tom Jobim / Dolores Duran)
03 – Foi a Noite (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)
04 – Ninguém Me Ama (Fernando Lobo / Antônio Maria)
05 – Maria (Ary Barroso / Luis Peixoto)
06 – Nova Ilusão (Claudionor Cruz / Pedro Caetano)
07 – Alguém Como Tu (Jair Amorim / José Maria de Abreu)
08 – Vingança (Lupicínio Rodrigues)
09 – Franqueza (Denis Brean / Osvaldo Guilherme)
10 – Castigo (Dolores Duran)

Instituto Memória Musical Brasileira says this album was released in 1977 which relates to art work and typeface being in no case 1960 style. Currently, this can be checked at MercadoLivre [http://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-187085523-lp-quarteto-nostalgia-nunca-77-c-chaim-lewak-_JM], where a picture of the vinyl label is showing the year 1977. Besides, on listening closely, sound and play of the electric guitar is very unlikely to be early sixties. Since Loronix seems to be the only source indicating 1960 as the year of release, it would be interesting to know how Zecalouro got the information. Nevertheless, this is a fine album, presenting classic ballads in a relaxed, yet experienced way, reminiscing the old days. Maybe that’s the reason why it has been called Quarteto Nostalgia?
With kind regards

Hello AD,

yes, I think you are right, but still there is a mystery there: if you search at Memoria Musical for the other albums Chaim Lewak has participation, they are all from the 50s and 60s (you should search for Chaim). It is also known that he returned to the USA and participated on Moacir Santos first USA album, The Maestro, which was recorded in 1973. If the album is from 1977, he should have returned back to Brazil to record it.

At the same time, if you search for the Beverly albums at Memoria Musical you see from the album number (AMCLP 5433) that it must be from 1977:

AMCLP 5426 VICENTINHO 1977 Vicentinho
AMCLP 5427 LUA COR DE OURO – Nestor e Nestorzinho 1977 Nestor e Nestorzinho
AMCLP 5428 SARAIVADAS DE SUCESSOS 1977 Saraiva
AMCLP 5429 FAZ E DIZ 1977 Assisão
AMCLP 5430 SAMBA PREFERÊNCIA POPULAR – VOL. 4 1977 Os Maneiros
AMCLP 5431 CARLOS LOMBARDI – VOL. 6 1977 Carlos Lombardi
AMCLP 5432 12 MAIORAIS DO NORDESTE 1977 Diversos
AMCLP 5433 QUARTETO NOSTALGIA 1977 Quarteto Nostalgia
AMCLP 5434 MENINA GRACIOSA 1977 Zico e Zeca
AMCLP 5435 ROCK E RINGO 1977 Rock e Ringo
AMCLP 5436 O SERTÃO ESTÁ PRESENTE 1977 Nicolau Campos e Zé Brajão

I’ll send Zeca a message to ask if he has more information on it.

Abraços,
