There was no better pick, Dorival Caymmi, an artist that influences all the others with no equivalents in Brazilian music. The “Caymmis” are many, Nana, Dori, Danilo, Stella and that is also Loronix celebration to Dia dos Pais, Father’s Day in English. I had my first contact with this album this week, the others I know were recorded in the 50’s and 60’s and Dorival Caymmi is a very different artist here. Let’s see.

This is Dorival Caymmi – Caymmi (1972), for Odeon. Caymmi is a very nice produced album with the orchestra touch of Maestro Lindolfo Gaya, which is also in charge of Musical Direction. Perhaps the influence of Jorge Amado — who wrote liner notes and also delivers a composition, 13 – Canto de Oba (Dorival Caymmi / Jorge Amado) — makes this album very influenced by the things from Bahia, specially Afro-Brazilian religions. The repertoire features some well know Dorival Caymmi songs such like Oracao de Mae Menininha, Rainha do Mar, Itapoan and others. Feliz dia dos Pais a todos os Loronixers do Brasil. Tracks include:

01 – Promessa de Pescador (Dorival Caymmi)
02 – Morena do Mar (Dorival Caymmi)
03 – Santa Clara Clareou (Dorival Caymmi)
04 – Canto de Nanã (Dorival Caymmi)
05 – Dona Chica (Francisca Santos das Flores) (Dorival Caymmi)
06 – Oração de Mãe Menininha (Dorival Caymmi)
07 – Eu Cheguei Lá (Dorival Caymmi)
08 – Sodade Matadeira (Dorival Caymmi)
09 – A Preta do Acarajé (Dorival Caymmi)
10 – Rainha do Mar (Dorival Caymmi)
11 – Vou Ver Juliana (Dorival Caymmi)
12 – Itapoã (Dorival Caymmi)
13 – Canto do Obá (Dorival Caymmi / Jorge Amado)

I Loronix Singles Festival – Oswaldo Nunes & The Pop’s, Eva & Joao Roberto Kelly

Publicado em: Sunday, August 12, 2007 by zecalouro

This is the first edition of Loronix Singles Festival, just to save our time and make several singles accessible from a single (sorry!) download package. First edition has 3 artists, as follows:

Oswaldo Nunes & The Pop’s (1968), for Equipe. Great surprise, I never saw an Equipe single before and in spite of a non-specific cover artwork, this one looks modern and truly beautiful. Oswaldo Nunes & The Pop’s delivers something my good friends identify as Samba Rock, something really hard to define with my limited knowledge. Tracks include:

01 – Segura Esse Samba Ogunhe
02 – Eu Chorei

Eva (1969), for Copacabana, brings another nice cover, although is just the opposite from Equipe. Perhaps this cover was even considered antique in 1969, but it is truly beautiful and matches perfect with the label design in the middle. Tracks include:

01 – Cantiga por Luciana
02 – Meu Mundo

Joao Roberto Kelly – Joao Roberto Kelly (1980), for Copacabana, a very recent single taking in consideration the previous ones. We have a different Joao Roberto Kelly this time, performing as a romantic singer and making a wonderful job. Tracks include:

01 – Mistura
02 – A Solidao Chegou

Turibio Santos – Villa Lobos | 12 Estudos para Violao (1963)

This is for musicians, guitar aficionados, classical music lovers and anyone who wants to know more about the origins of the way of playing an instrument that has a great identification with the music from Brazil, the violao (acoustic guitar). This album has a series of violao estudos written by Maestro Heitor Villa Lobos in 1929, performed by Turibio Santos, a gifted classical violao player more than 40 years ago. I think this quick and very hard to build introduction is solid enough to get your attention to this great album.

This is Turibio Santos – Villa Lobos | 12 Estudos para Violao (1963), for Caravelle. Making a fast Internet research on Villa Lobos 12 Estudos para Violao it clear these twelve pieces are really a reference for any serious musician. This is also Turibio Santos debut LP, the first step of one of the most important classical guitar performers in Brazil with more than 40 albums recorded. These very old Turibio Santos renditions to Villa Lobos Estudos are considered the best interpretation of this anthological set of compositions. I’m really proud to own the original vinyl issue of this first Turibio Santos LP, the vinyl transfer sounds excellent and FLAC files are also available to maximize your experience. Tracks include:

01 – Estudo Nº 1 Em Mi Menor (Villa-Lobos)
02 – Estudo Nº 2 Em Lá Maior (Villa-Lobos)
03 – Estudo Nº 3 Em Ré Maior (Villa-Lobos)
04 – Estudo Nº 4 Em Sol Maior (Villa-Lobos)
05 – Estudo Nº 5 Em Dó Maior (Villa-Lobos)
06 – Estudo Nº 6 Em Mi Menor (Villa-Lobos)
07 – Estudo Nº 7 Em Mi Menor (Villa-Lobos)
08 – Estudo Nº 8 Em Dó Sustenido MenorR (Villa-Lobos)
09 – Estudo Nº 9 Em Fá Sustenido Menor (Villa-Lobos)
10 – Estudo Nº 10 Em Si Menor (Villa-Lobos)
11 – Estudo Nº 11 Em Si Menor (Villa-Lobos)
12 – Estudo Nº 12 Em Lá Menor (Villa-Lobos)

Publicado em: Saturday, August 11, 2007 by zecalouro

Hello, Good Evening! Saturday is Samba at Loronix and I have no doubt we are starting great with this compacto duplo (EP), featuring a acclaimed Samba group from the 70’s that delivers Samba in a way I think it should be. This should amaze our Samba enthusiasts. Let’s see.

This is O Conjunto Nosso Samba – Samba ’73 (1972), for Copacabana. I never heard anything from these guys before and I like it very much. They make Samba just like the Escolas de Samba from the old times, slower than today and groovy. Attention to track 03 – Tem Capoeira, a very popular Samba tune from the old times. Tracks include:

01 – Tra-La-La, Lamartine Babo, Um Hino ao Carnaval Brasileiro (Darcy do Nascimento / Oliviel de Oliveira)
02 – O Saber Poetico da Literatura de Cordel (Baianinho)
03 – Tem Capoeira (Batista da Mangueira)
04 – Viagem Encantada Pindorama a Dentro (Wilson Diabo / Malaquias)

Here we go on a perfect album to make people ready to the solid Samba listens scheduled for Saturday night. We have here a pretty unknown singer with many fans; actually, I never understood why so many fans and such fanatic fans she has. Now I know the reason, she is truly great. Some friends will think or say: “here comes zecalouro with another of those promotional albums for tourists in Rio de Janeiro…”. No problem, I would make only this cover that worth the entire experience with this antique. That’s why I’m making something different this time; I’m including a high-resolution copy of cover artwork with no Rapidshare. Let’s see.

This is Orquestra Popular da Guanabara – Rio (1968), for Premier, same concept used in the previous release of this kind, issued for promote tourism activities, musicians not credited, nice cover artwork picturing well-known spots in Rio de Janeiro and a repertoire full of standards. However, there is an exception, this album features an orchestra lead by Maestro Carioca, Orquestra Popular da Guanabara and the repertoire is a wonderful selection of songs with lyrics about Rio de Janeiro. Tracks include:

01 – Cidade Maravilhosa (Andre Filho)
02 – Copacabana (Joao de Barro / Alberto Ribeiro)
03 – Rio, Eterna Capital (Raul Sampaio / Benil Santos)

Publicado em: Friday, August 10, 2007 by zecalouro

Hello, Good Evening! I’m feeling good today, perhaps by hearing another fantastic collaboration by Old Nic. This is an album that I never had the chance to hear or look its cover, in the spirit of he album title, showing a well-known character in Brazil popular known as “Lambe-Lambe”, which is a photographer that holds his equipment on streets making photos of people. They have disappeared with the creation of these automatic photo machines. They were very common in Rio de Janeiro, but I think they were gone a decade or two ago.

This is Jacob do Bandolim & Radames Gnattali – Retratos (1964), for Columbia, featuring Jacob do Bandolim on tracks 01, 02, 03 and 04 backed up by Radames Gnattali and his Orchestra performing Retratos Suite. Radames Gnattali playing piano with no additional accompaniement performs the remaining tracks. Jacob do Bandolim and Radames Gnattali alone makes this album worth checking. Tracks include:

01 – Retratos (Suíte) I – PixinguinhaA (Radamés Gnattali) – Jacob do Bandolim
02 – Retratos (Suíte) II – NazarethH (Radamés Gnattali) – Jacob do Bandolim
03 – Retratos (Suíte) III – Anacleto de MedeirosS (Anacleto de Medeiros / Radamés Gnattali) – Jacob do Bandolim

I took this album for a hearing today with zeca and I got really amazed. I had to take zeca out of the room to make a focused hearing, it is not everyday you get hooked by something at the first time. Later I knew this is the first and only album by this artist, which is also a composer, director and actor. He is the author of Porta Estandarte (Geraldo Vandre / Fernando Lona), an anthological song that won the first prize at Festival Nacional de Musica Popular by TV Excelsior.

This is Fernando Lona – Cidadao do Mundo (1977), for Tapecar, featuring arrangements by Leo Peracchi and compositions by Fernando Lona. Cidadao do Mundo is listed among the one hundred essential Brazilian music albums listing, developed by the renowned Brazilian music researcher, Luiz Americo. You can visit Luiz Americo site to browse his listing of his one hundred essential albums here. I think everything was said; just want to thanks Refer, pimenta and Carlos Braga for additional info on Fernando Lona. Tracks include:

01 – Desencanto (Fernando Lona)
02 – Fado das Gaiolas (Fernando Lona / Carlos Pita)
03 – Três Três (Fernando Lona)
04 – Caiado (Fernando Lona / Carlos Pita)

Singles and EPs, which I think I will call as Compactos from now one, are really cool. My decision was to make them in the weekends, but I cannot resist making at least one per day during this week. Let’s see what we have this time.

This is Claudette Soares – Claudette Soares | EP (1971), for Copacabana, made as a self-titled record, in spite of the original titled available at the back cover, very big, by the way, “Quem Nao e A Maior, Tem que Dar Mais Amor”. This EP has tracks from Claudette Soares – De Tanto Amor (1971) LP, 01 – De Tanto Amor, 02 – Amiga and 05 – Coisas, the remaining ones, 03 – Manequim and 04 – Shirley Sexy were probably first issued here. Roberto Menescal is in charge of production with arrangements by Luiz Claudio and Maestro Francisco de Moraes. Tracks include:

01 – De Tanto Amor (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos)
02 – Amiga (Roberto Menescal / Paulinho Tapajos)
03 – Manequim (Antonio Adolfo / Tiberio Gaspar)
04 – Shirley Sexy (Fred Falcao / Arnoldo Medeiros)
05 – Coisas (Taiguara)

Publicado em: Thursday, August 09, 2007 by zecalouro

Hello, Good Evening! I friend of mine made a question today that I could not answer promptly, he asked why Flora Purim does not have more albums at Loronix besides her debut album, which is Flora Purim – Flora e M.P.M. (1964). I think the reason is availability, Flora Purim and Airto Moreira moved to the US in the late 60’s, being there since them building their careers and most of Flora Purim albums are commercially available with a few exceptions, such like this one. Let’s see.

This is Flora Purim – Midnight Sun (1988), for Sigem/CID, originally issued in US as Flora Purim – The Midnight Sun (1988), for Venture/Virgin records. Cover artworks of both issues are completely different; track listing brings the same songs, arranged on a different order. I’m not the perfect parrot to speak about Flora Purim albums released in US, except technical info, made available bellow. I will the album with you, please leave your thoughts on comment section; I need education on Flora Purim. Tracks and personnel are given per track this time.

I’m now the happy owner of the first issue of this legendary Farroupilha album, the first album recorded by the mighty Jongo Trio. This is a repost with several improvements, high quality back and front cover scans, nice vinyl ripping and alternative FLAC files are the improvements. I’m gathering the text I wrote for the first post more than a year ago.

This is Jongo Trio – Jongo Trio (1965), for Farroupilha, the legendary Bossa Nova Jazz combo featuring Saba (bass), Toninho (drums) and Cido (bass), competent musicians with previous collaborations with Pedrinho Mattar, Manfredo Fest and others. Jongo Trio have backed up Baden Powell on his early recordings, Elis Regina and also made several participations on other artists albums and live recordings. After releasing this album, they made an hiatus of five years, being back on recordings in 1970, 1972 and recently for Diebold, a fantastic album produced by our great Loronix friend Joao Samuel. Tracks include:

This one was by accident; I found this little record today inside a bunch of old Brazilian magazines sold by an old lady close to my place. She didn’t know about the album and I had to buy the magazine for one Real to take it home. I think I did a nice deal, the EP never was played before and I could not wait longer to show Loronixers. Let’s see.

This is Wilson Simonal – Promo EP (1970), for Odeon. Shell – the UK oil and gas company – when sponsored the V Festival Internacional da Cancao probably freely distributed this record. The EP feature three songs, the anthem of the festival, Cada um Cumpra com o Seu Dever, both arranged by Lyrio Panicalli and Brasil, Eu Fico (Jorge Ben). Tracks include:

I know this album fits better on a given weekend Samba day; however, I had no chance but make it today. I took a time today to dig an unknown old record store in Rio de Janeiro. I just retrieved the first one in my hand. I hope they are smiling now.

This is Miltinho – Quanto Mais Samba Melhor (1967), for Odeon, an album that I did not know the existence, featuring arrangements by Maestro Nelsinho and Maestro Lyrio Panicalli, in charge of tracks 01 – Manchete, 06 – Viver and 12 – Historia de Uma Roseira Triste. This is a very well produced album that I hope will give you high quality entertainment. Tracks include:

Hello, Good Evening! We are starting today with the first out of two Baden Powell music videos to be released today as Loronix tribute to Baden Powell. If alive, Baden Powell would be making his 70th years birthday today. I think this is a really special date. I’m extremely busy this week and I could not check the news, but I think there are concerts all around celebrating this great artists.

This is Baden Powell – Os Afrosambas, with Baden speaking about Os Afrosambas creation and performing Canto de Ossanha with Vinicius de Moraes, Toquinho and Miucha. I hope this series of videos sent by rb.ardiles helps Loronixers to understand a little bit more about Baden Powell.

I never gave the deserved attention to this album and I decided to give it a spin tonight. The first track worth the admission price. Perhaps the last time I heard Maysa was months ago, when her voice spread over the house I started feeling great and the tracks with Maysa, Tito Madi, Maysa, Tito Madi, etc. makes it very nice to hear. I don’t have idea if these tracks were released before on regular albums, but I’m sure RCA made a great repertoire selection. Let’s see.

This is Maysa & Tito Madi – Dois Na Fossa (1975), for RCA Candem. There are some very good tracks on Dois na Fossa. Fantasia de Trombones and Fantasia de Cellos are performed by Maysa and each one brings three songs. They are great. Tito Madi performs some tunes of the almost impossible to find Tito Madi – Tito Madi em Nova Dimensao (1968), they are: Helena, Helena, Helena, Franqueza, A Mesma Historia Antiga, Sem Ter Que Chorar and others. Tracks include:

01 – “Fantasia de Trombones” Demais / Meu Mundo Caiu / Preciso Aprender a Ser Só – Maysa
02 – Helena Helena Helena – Tito Madi
03 – Ne Me Quitte Pas – Maysa
04 – A Mesma História Antiga – Tito Madi
05 – Canção Sem Título – Maysa
06 – Sem Ter Que Chorar – Tito Madi
07 – “Fantasia de Cellos” Primavera / Eurídice / Canção do Amanhecer – Maysa
08 – Franqueza – Tito Madi
09 – Just In Time – Maysa

Moacyr Peixoto – Um Piano Dentro da Noite (1979)

Very difficult decision. The family Peixoto gave several artists to Brazilian music, Moacyr Peixoto is the son of Elisario Peixoto, also known as Dadinho, nephew of the legendary pianist Nono and brother of three other artists, the pistonist Araken Peixoto, the singer Andyara and the most famous from the family, the singer Cauby Peixoto. I was decided to show Cauby Peixoto to Loronixers, but as I said the day would be more instrumental oriented.

This is Moacyr Peixoto – Um Piano Dentro da Noite (1979), for Eldorado, featuring the piano of Moacyr Peixoto with bass and drums, a trio. The session was recorded such like Moacyr Peixoto played in nightclubs; everything was recorded with no studio techniques and no arrangements. Twenty-six songs were recorded in three hours of studio time and nice tunes were selected to this album. Another strike by Luiz Harding. Tracks include.

Personnel

Moacyr Peixoto
(piano)
Carlinhos Monjardin
(bass)
Zinho
(drums)

Track List

01 – Misty (Garner / Burke)
02 – Andança (Danilo Caymmi / Edmundo Souto / Paulinho Tapajós)
03 – How Long Has This Being Going On (George Gershwin / Ira Gershwin / Wodehouse)
04 – Até Quem Sabe (João Donato / Lysias Ênio)
05 – I’ve Got a Crush On You (George Gershwin / Ira Gershwin)
06 – Triste (Tom Jobim)
07 – Sophisticated Lady (Duke Ellington / Mills / Parish)
08 – Duas Contas (Garoto)
09 – S P Blues (Moacir Peixoto)

It is a really nice video that will keep Loronixers entertained while zeca manages last minute issues with the posts of this Monday.

Hello, good evening! Great posts are scheduled for today, most of them instrumental albums, we had several albums with lyrics last week and it is now time to give another chance to instrumental music. The great Marcelo Munhoz, from the mighty Sambassonics is responsible for this great contribution, an album from an artist never released at Loronix that I was tracking down for months. Let’s see this nice pick from the wonderful Marcelo Munhoz LP collection.

This is Edgar Gianullo – O Assunto e Edgar (1964), for Farroupilha, the small but very influent Brazilian record label from the 60’s that always releases nice albums. O Assunto e Edgar is the first album by Edgar Gianullo, a Brazilian arranger and guitar player that we had the chance to see a couple of weeks ago performing with Mauricio Einhorn on a video. Tasso Bangel from Conjunto Farroupilha is behind the scenes as producer and personnel list is truly amazing. Tracks include:

Personnel

Edgar Gianullo

Nara Leao – Manha de Liberdade (1966)

Publicado em: Monday, August 06, 2007 by zecalouro

This is a really unusual and worth checking Nara Leao album, recorded immediately after the anthological Show Opiniao concert. Manha de Liberdade has a strong influence of Geni Marcondes, in charge of all the arrangements. He makes different things with instruments, mainly percussion, delivering something that sometimes approaches the sounds of Tropicalia. The repertoire is very influence by Opiniao concert, leaving Bossa Nova standards behind.

This is Nara Leao – Manha de Liberdade (1966), for Philips. Among Nara Leao albums at Loronix, this is the cover I like most, it makes me think Nara Leao as a gladiator with her violao full of flowers. Personnel listing is not available, the arrangements of Geni Marcondes are the exception. Tracks include:

01 – A Banda (Chico Buarque)
02 – Ana Vai Embora (Franklin Dario)
03 – Funeral de um Lavrador (Joao Cabral de Mello Neto / Chico Buarque)
04 – Como Dois e Dois sao Quatro (Denoy de Oliveira / Ferreira Gullar)
05 – Morena dos Olhos D’Agua (Chico Buarque)
06 – Favela (Pandeirinho / Jorginho)
07 – Manha de Liberdade (Marco Antonio / Nelson Lins de Barros)
08 – Menina de Hiroshima (Luiz Carlos Sa / Francisco de Assis)
09 – Ladainha (Capinan – Gilberto Gil)
10 – Cancao do Bicho (Denoy de Oliveira / Geni Marcondes / Ferreira Gullar / Oduvaldo Viana Filho)
11 – Cancao da Primavera (Carlos Elias)
12 – Faz Escuro mas eu Canto (Thiago de Mello / Monsueto)

Wonderful. I always thought I was right to pick some singles and EPs, but this album makes me feel that I’m 100% right. There are several treasures to discover on these little records and this one is a great surprise. Never gave a chance to it and when I gave it a spin today it was magic.

This is Os Farroupilhas – Os Farroupilhas EP 45rpm, for Columbia, featuring four tracks of pure beauty, nice repertoire and amazing voice arrangements. Little I know about this album, such as personnel and even release date, perhaps it was made in the early 60’s; it has much of Bossa Nova on it. Tracks include:

01 – Nunca (Lupscinio Rodrigues)
02 – Noites de Moscou (D.P. arrangements & Lyrics Inah Bangel)
03 – Sabado em Copacabana (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle)
04 – Meu Rio Grande (Garoto)

Here is an album were Brazilian popular music meets Brazilian classical music on a breathtaking and unique session, one of a kind at Loronix and very hard to review and describe by this humble parrot. I think you should not miss this one, let’s see.

This is Paulo Moura, Clara Sverner, Turibio Santos e Olivia Byington – Encontro (1984), for Quarup. Paulo Moura has been with us in the earlier posts and it is well known to Loronxiers. Clara Sverner is an eurudite pianist and also a researcher on forgotten composers of Brazilian music, Clara Sverner has been recording with Paulo Moura since the early 80’s and their albums are also a perfect example of blending of Classical and Popular music. Turibio Santos is one of the most important classical guitar instrumentalists in Brazil, he has recorded more than 40 albums and makes also the bridge between classic and popular music with a great work of recording old composers. Olivia Byington is an acclaimed Brazilian singer and delivers nice vocals on Heitor Villa Lobos compositions. The repertoire is a mix of several styles. You should not miss this one. Tracks include:

01 – Suite Nordestina (Luiz Gonzaga / Humberto Teixeira) – Turibio Santos
02 – Viola Quebrada (Brazilian Folklore with Villa Lobos Harmonization) – Turibio Santos & Olivia Byington

Hello, Good Evening! Loronixers are giving a nice response to last weekend posts with singles and EPs, that’s why I decided to release some others this Sunday, starting with this one, a single, featuring Rosamaria Murtinho and Bossa Jazz Trio. The friends from Brazil will be taken by surprise with this tiny record, since Rosamaria Murtinho is most associated as an actress, not as a Bossa Nova singer, great singer by the way. The single features two songs, 01 – Tristeza, arranged by Maestro Francisco de Moraes and 02 – Perdao arranged by Francisco de Moraes and Bossa Jazz Trio. As a little record, no Rapidshare this time, direct link to the music. Tracks include:

01 – Tristeza
02 – Perdao

This is Rosamaria Murtinho & Bossa Jazz Trio (1966), for Fermata, kindly sent by Arara Azul (perhaps I’m wrong, please notify me!), at Loronix.

Publicado em: Sunday, August 05, 2007 by zecalouro

Caetano Rodrigues will be amazing this Sunday morning when having breakfast checking what’s new at Loronix. I said to him that I gave up to make this album to Loronixers, due some technical problems with the music. However, this is a fantastic and rather unknown Marisa album and I had the help from friends to make the fixes I need. Thanks for this nice contribution Caetano.

This is Marisa – Little Club Apresenta Marisa (1961), for Copacabana, once again delivering a great cover artwork that makes you fell in the mood to travel back on time watch this concert at Little Club, which is the nightclub that Marisa performed before recording this album. The session is beautiful with Marisa backed up by a not credited trio. Marisa sings sweet, she whispers in your ear sometimes on a nice repertoire, based on Brazilian standards and some international songs. Tracks include:

01 – Chuva para molhar o sol (Édson Borges – Agostinho dos Santos)
02 – Croquemitufle (Gilbert Becaud)
03 – Onde Estava Eu (Armando Cavalcanti – Victor Freire)

Here we go on another Brazilian singer never made available to Loronixers. Simone started her career in the early 70’s and had a promising beginning as one of the greatest voices of Brazilian popular music at that time. She recorded her first and self-titled album in 1973, being very popular throughout the 70’s. When entering the 80’s, Simone positioned herself as a romantic singer and got international recognition. A friend who lives in my building sent this album a long time ago. I think she will be happy to see her favorite singer at Loronix.

This is Simone – Face a Face (1977), for Odeon, perhaps the most successful Simone album, featuring several hits that everybody knows in Brazil by heart, such as: Jura Secreta, O Que Sera, Comecaria Tudo Outra Vez, among others. Odeon label made available to Simone a constellation of Brazilian musicians and arrangers. If you never had the chance to hear Simone this is a great start, her voice is unique and this is a very nice album. Tracks include:

Hello, good evening! Saturday is Samba and Samba is Pedrinho Rodrigues, here we go again on another album by this great and pretty underrated Samba Interpreter. This is the first out of two albums titled “Brasil… Sambe ou se Mande” released in the beginning of the 70’s decade. Let’s see.

This is Pedrinho Rodrigues e Os Nacionais – Brasil… Sambe ou Se Mande (1973), for Equipe. Samba albums released in the early 70’s are my favorites; they have some kind of connection with the Bossa Nova from the 60’s. They are mellow, sweet and sometimes the lyrics are naive, deliciously naive by the way. This album was sent by the great Moos from the Netherlands, one of the greatest collectors and Brazilian music enthusiasts I have ever seen outside of Brazil. Thanks once again Moos. Tracks include:

01 – Ladrao que Entra na Casa de Pobre So Leva Susto
02 – Baba de Quiabo
03 – Moro na Roca
04 – Ninguem Tasca
05 – Minha Viola
06 – Cosa Nostra

Maria Creuza popularity is growing and the numbers demonstrates it. We had Maria Creuza – Maria Creuza e Os Grandes Mestres do Samba (1975), for the same RCA Victor and it is unbelievable, it was the top downloaded of the whole week, ahead of legends such like Joao Gilberto and others. This is Maria Creuza – Meia Noite com Maria Creuza (1977), for RCA Victor. It is nice to hear Maria Creuza sweet voice performing a very well selected repertoire of romantic songs. The album starts with a beautiful composition by Caetano Veloso, including several compositions from Antonio Carlos e Jocafi, an Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes medley and the gorgeous track 11 – A Distancia (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos). Personnel features top-notch musicians and arrangers with studio direction and production by Rildo Hora. Tracks include:

Luiz Claudio – Cantigas (1973)

Publicado em: Saturday, August 04, 2007 by zecalouro

I’m in the mood today for showing this album that I have been saving for months, actually, there is something that I confirmed today that makes this post really necessary, the participation of Luiza, the same Luiza from the 1964 self titled album with arrangements by Moacir Santos. Let’s see what we have here, this album is really unique and shows another side of this great singer.

This is Luiz Claudio – Cantigas (1973), for Odeon. Luiz Claudio has strong connections with Minas Gerais, the state he was born. He started his professional career in 1949 with the group Trovadores do Luar, adopting Bossa Nova style in the 60’s and then getting back to his “roots” in the 70’s with a series of albums dedicated to Minas Gerais regional music. Cantigas is an example, bringing very old traditional songs from Minas Gerais adapted by Luiz Claudio among well-known Brazilian standards by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Luiz Bonfa, among others. Luiza sings track 01 – Amo Te Muito. Tracks include:

01 – Amo-te Muito (Joao Chaves) Featuring Luiza
02 – Mucama (Goncalves Crespo)
03 – Cantigas (Arranjo e Adaptacao Luiz Claudio)
04 – E a Ti Flor do Ceu (Arranjo e Adaptacao Luiz Claudio)
05 – Sereno da Madrugada (Adaptacao Ubirajara Cabral)
06 – Menina das Trancas (Luiz Claudio / William Prado)
07 – Estrada Branca (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
08 – Elvira Escuta (Arranjo e Adaptacao Luiz Claudio)
09 – O Galo Cantou na Serra (Luiz Claudio / Guimaraes Rosa)
10 – Gaviao de Penacho (Arranjo e Adaptacao Luiz Claudio) Featuring Malu
11 – Correnteza (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
