When Paulo Moura – Paulo Moura Interpreta Radames Gnattali (1957) was released, I didn’t realize how popular and how adored he was by Loronixers. Paulo Moura released several instrumental albums in the 60’s with most of them out of print. I think it is mandatory to show a second album by Paulo Moura from this phase. Let’s see.
This is Paulo Moura Quarteto – Paulo Moura Quarteto (1968), for Equipe. Paulo Moura recorded three albums for the small, but really influent Equipe label. These albums are considered the best Paulo Moura records in the 60’s and Paulo Moura Quarteto is perhaps the least known of these three. Paulo Moura delivers solid and natural improvisations on top of a Bossa Nova repertoire with a band that includes the young legends Wagner Tiso, Paschoal Meirelles and Luiz Carlos. Pretty self-explanatory release that I hope Loronixers will give a great response. Tracks include:
– Lamento do Morro (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
– Eu e a Brisa (Johnny Alf)
– Meu Lugar (Luis Fernando Werneck / Danilo Caymmi / Fernando Brant)
– Aos Pés da Santa Cruz (Marino Pinto / Zé da Zilda)
– Yardbird Suíte (C. Parker)
– Sá Marina (Antônio Adolfo / Tibério Gaspar)
– Retrato de Benny Carter (Wagner Tiso)
– Razão (Alberto Arantes / Sergio Bittencourt)
– Feitio de Oração (Vadico / Noel Rosa)
– Terra (Milton Nascimento / Márcio Borges)
