Hello, good evening! Among the albums brought by my mother last week, this is certainly the most inquisitive one. Not only to be an album that I never heard before, but for the circumstances in which it was found. I have a mania to wonder what happened with these old albums until they arrive here. When it is found in Copacabana, for instance, it is easy to realize that it was part of a given collection sold to a record shop once the owner died or decided to get rid of them. But when it is found in a remote location, such like this one in the suburb of Rio de Janeiro, it is impossible to realize the path it took to get here. Anyway, I would like to have more time to visit these stores in the suburban area and try to reverse this course, perhaps a nice opportunity to find new friends and also great albums. Let’s see.
This is Fafa Lemos – Fafa Lemos e Seu Violino com Surdina (1955), for RCA Victor, featuring the legendary violinist, singer and why not, whistler Fafa Lemos at his best, performing a repertoire of his own compositions, Brazilian and international tunes. Fafa Lemos was part of the original formation of Trio Surdina with Garoto (violao) and Chiquinho do Acordeon (accordion). I’m not sure if Fafa Lemos was the first to introduce the violin to Brazilian popular music, but I’m sure Fafa Lemos is the musician that better made it. My highlight goes to 03 – Time Perna de Pau with lyrics sung by Fafa Lemos and 02 – Delicado, which is my pick at Loronix Preview Center. Tracks include:
– Feitiço da Vila (Noel Rosa / Vadico)
– Delicado (Waldir Azevedo)
– Time Perna de Pau (Vicente Amar)
– Mil Violinos (Jay Livingston / Evans / De Liano)
– Dengoso (Renaud)
– Chão de Estrelas (Silvio Caldas / Orestes Barbosa)
– Giannina Mia (O. Harbach / R. Friml)
– Fafá Em Hollywood (Fafá Lemos)
