Airto Moreira - Seeds on the Ground LP (1971)-FRONT
Airto Moreira - Seeds on the Ground LP (1971)-BACK
This album is so great and so awaited by Loronixers that we will make something really different here, releasing both LP and CD versions. By the way, I have been discussing the value of Bonus Tracks on CD reissues with a friend and we came to a conclusion this tracks are not really useful and sometimes they even spoil the listening experience. Additionally, I think on most cases bonus tracks are some sort of studio leftovers and they were not included as they were not the artist will at that time. Anyway, terrific album and surprisingly out of print. Let’s see. This is Airto Moreira – Seeds on the Ground | The Natural Sound of Airto (1971), for Buddha Records, featuring a constellation of musicians, such as Hermeto Pascoal, Flora Purim, Dom Um Romao, Sivuca and others. This is the kind of self-explanatory release and I just like to thanks the group of friends that made available the album and the original fist issue cover artwork, great accomplishment to Loronix and great teamwork. I’m also curious to check which version, CD or LP, will be the most popular in the forthcoming days. Tracks include:

Publicado em: Tuesday, October 16, 2007 by zecalouro

This is a recording session that I would like to take part. No matter what doing there, serving coffee, shining shoes, whatever. We have here the first album recorded by Airto Moreira in US, featuring Flora Purim, Hermeto Pascoal, Sivuca, Ron Carter and Gary McFarland as producer, a constellation of top-notch musicians at their peak. And the most incredible fact about this album, Natural Feelings never had a CD reissue, as far as I could search. Let’s see.

This is Airto Moreira – Natural Feelings (1970), for Buddah Records. It is nice to see the back cover with recording session photos showing Hermeto Pascoal and Sivuca on a very young age. Hermeto had a short hair and I would not recognize him. This cover artwork is also amazing and it is provided with a very nice scan, you will spend several minutes navigating on each detail. I’m not versed on Airto Moreira discography, and if the other records he made are such like this one, it really worth to start a series on Airto Moreira. Anyway, I will let you with this surprisingly album. Tracks include:

PersonnelAirto Moreira
(percussion, vocal, drums)
Flora Purim
(vocals)
Sivuca
(violao)
Hermeto Pascoal
(organ, harpsichord, piano, flute)
Ron Carter
(bass)
Gary McFarland
(production)

Track List

01 – Alue (Flora Purim / Airto Moreira)
02 – Xibaba (She-ba-ba) (Airto Moreira)

05 – Andei (Hermeto Pascoal)

Eumir Deodato – Deodato / Airto | In Concert (1973)

There are some interesting facts behind this album, I don’t know if it is true or rumors, but they are very interest for sure. Deodato / Airto In Concert was recorded live in in the Felt Forum of New York City’s Madison Square Garden, just before Deodato blockbuster Also Sprach Zarathurstra.

The first issue was release in 1973, with no agreement or authorization by Eumir Deodato, which had already left CTI to MCA Records by that time. Airto Moreira played before Deodato and also without knowing had two tracks of his performance included at this first issue. I will tell more about it.

This is Eumir Deodato – Deodato / Airto | In Concert (1973), for CTI. This is the second issue, released at the CD era with more confusion in the front. Although credited as main performer, Airto Moreira lost his two tracks, being replaced by some others performed by Eumir Deodato at that same concert that were never released on any other album before. The two Airto Moreira missing tracks were moved to another album, The Best of Airto. I never saw such confusion on a record before. We are making the CD issue, so we will need to take it as an Eumir Deodato album, although CTI kept Airto Moreira name on main title. If someone can send us the original LP with the two Airto Moreira missing tracks we update this post. Tracks include:

PersonnelRick Marotta
(drums)
Joseph J. Shepley
(trumpet)
John Giulino
(bass)
Joe Shepley
(trumpet)
Eumir Deodato
(keyboards)
Rubens Bassini
(conga)
Garnett Brown
(trombone)
Burt Collins
(trumpet)
Gilmore Degap
(percussion)
John Tropea
(guitar)
Joe Temperley
(sax baritone)

Track List

01 – Do It Again
02 – September 13
03 – Baubles, Bangles and Beads
04 – Whirlwinds
05 – Spirit of Summer
06 – Slyscrapers
07 – Also Sprach Zarathurstra

Miles Davis – Pop, Reflections in Music by Miles Davis (1973) with Hermeto Pascoal and Airto Moreira

Here we have a record that it is really out of Loronix style, but it is close to Christmas and it is a zecalouro’s mother advice. I found this more than a few months ago at home, since then, zecalouro’s mother keeps saying that I need to put this record at Loronix, she says that I use to hear to it several times when I was a kid, so it should be good to Loronix, etc. You known these things.

Mom’s advice could never be ignored, so let’s see what happens. This is Miles Davis – POP, New Directions in Music by Miles Davis (1973), for Columbia, the Brazilian issue of a Miles Davis record that I could never associate with the USA release, featuring Hermeto Pascoal, Airto Moreira, John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. The participation of Hermeto Pascoal and Airto Moreira was important to make my decision to post this experimental LP, just a few songs and some long tracks with improvisations.

I don’t know why zecalouro’s mon likes this record. Perhaps she is celebrating the fact that I did not go nuts hearing this melting pot of crazy sounds. Who knows… Anyway, I hope you like it. This is a once in a lifetime release at Loronix, Christmas time… Tracks include seven Miles Davis compositions:

01 – Little Church
02 – Miles Runs the Voodoo Down
03 – John McLaughlin
04 – On The Corner
05 – Sanctuary
06 – Black Satin
07 – Selim

Publicado em: TUESDAY, JUNE 06, 2006

Quarteto Novo was a very important group that introduced something unique for Brazilian music, the traditions of Brazilian Northeast region mixed up with traditional Jazz. This was an important change to break culture barriers existent between different Brazilian regions. It is important to say that this change was before Tropicalia who definitively melt every different influence.

Originally, Quarteto Novo was Trio Novo, assembled to back-up Geraldo Vandre on a series of gigs sponsored by the pharmaceutical gorilla Rhodia. Quarteto novo was: Hermeto Pascoal, Airto Moreira, Heraldo do Monte and Theo de Barros.
