Hello, good evening! I’m confident that everything will be delivery with no errors. I’ve been making small mistakes on each post and this is something really frustrating. The causes are many, mainly a change on my routine. Now I use to wake up at the time I was going to bed a month ago. When midnight approaches, a kind of tractor beam drags me with all the forces toward my bed, and everything becomes very difficult. But today is different; Aracy de Almeida saved my day, and probably can save yours with this little and very old tribute to Noel Rosa recorded in 1955 in the 10-inch format for Continental. Let’s see.

This is Aracy de Almeida – Cancoes de Noel Rosa com Aracy de Almeida (1955), for Continental. It is unbelievable that Noel Rosa died with 26 years old and be considered as one of the most important Brazilian popular music composers from the last century. Aracy de Almeida is a favorite singer of many friends and does not need to be introduced. In the other hand, this album features arrangements by Vadico, the most frequent Noel Rosa songwriting partner and also an acclaimed musician with international experience. We need to show one of the three and impossible to find Vadico’s career LPs someday. These albums were recorded between 1956 and 1959 and seem to be really impossible to find. Tracks include:

01 – Meu Barracão (Noel Rosa) Samba
02 – Voltaste (Noel Rosa) Samba

Aracy de Almeida - O Samba em Pessoa (1961)

Aracy de Almeida was a great discover to many friends at Loronix, especially those ones who have less than 40 years. I cannot count how many messages I receive by friends with many thanks to transform someone who was just a member of Sunday TV show into one of the best Brazilian Samba interpreters ever. Aracy de Almeida is a great artist and will always deserve a special place at Loronix. Let’s see.

This is Aracy de Almeida – O Samba em Pessoa (1961), for RCA Candem, a compilation of Aracy de Almeida interpretations taken from 78 rpms albums recorded in the late 30’s and early 40’s. These tracks are really old and in spite of the remastering work made by RCA, the output is clean, but it was recorded with the resources available in 1937 to 1942. Tracks include the original released date of each tune. Tracks include:

01 – [1937] Tenha Pena de Mim (Cyro de Souza / Babahu)
02 – [1938] O Que Foi Que Eu Fiz (Cyro de Souza)
03 – [1937] Século do Progresso (Noel Rosa)
04 – [1940] Com Razão Ou Sem Razão (David Nasser / Ary de Almeida)
05 – [1939] Camisa Amarela (Ary Barroso)
06 – [1938] Rapaz Folgado (Noel Rosa)
07 – [1937] Último Desejo (Noel Rosa)

Let’s start this Samba Saturday at Loronix with a classy album, awaited by several Loronixers since it was presented months ago. I was very reluctant to make this album, since it is a gift given by a very special friend on a very special day, my first flight to Sao Paulo as zecalouro. It was also my first chance to meet Caetano Rodrigues.

I want to say thank you, thank you, and thank you to Mr. W. He was the first Loronixer I could meet in Sao Paulo and I will never forget the support and this beautiful gift he gave and I kindly present here to Loronixers.

This is Aracy de Almeida – Noel Rosa | 78rpm (1950), for Continental, which is a “box set” featuring three different Aracy de Almeida 78rpm recordings with Noel Rosa compositions. The three discs were recorded for the occasion; they are numbered in a sequence as 16317-A-B, 16318-A-B and 16319-A-B. Maestro Radames Gnattali is in charge of arrangements and three different groups back Aracy de Almeida on each disc, the first one features Quarteto Continental, the second has Francisco Sergi e Sua Orquestra and the third brings Vero e Sua Orquestra. My apologies to the friends who were waiting several months for this release, this collection is truly amazing and now I understand their worry. Tracks include:

01 – Palpite Infeliz (Noel Rosa) – Quarteto Continental
02 – Conversa de Botequim (Noel Rosa / Vadico) – Quarteto Continental
03 – Feitico da Vila (Noel Rosa / Vadico) – Francisco Sergi e Sua Orquestra
04 – Ultimo Desejo (Noel Rosa) – Francisco Sergi e Sua Orquestra
05 – Nao Tem Traducao (Noel Rosa) – Vero e Sua Orquestra
06 – O x do Problema (Noel Rosa) – Vero e Sua Orquestra

Essa coleção de 78 Rpm pode ser buscada no 300 Discos. O segundo volume também está disponível lá.

I think this picture with perfect and clean 78rpm labels is enough to understand that the great TNO, The Number One on 78rpm contributions, strikes again. TNO delivers another renowned artist that should not be left behind on our initial releases in the format. Thanks TNO.

This is Aracy de Almeida – 78rpm | 16890 (1954), for Continental. Conjunto Continental backs Aracy de Almeida on side A while Abel e Seu Conjunto do the same on side B. Tracks include:

01 – O Que Sera de Mim (Milton de Oliveira / Haroldo Lobo) with Conjunto Continental
02 – Nao Acredito Mais (Polera / Herve Cordovil) with Abel e Seu Conjunto

Hello, Good Evening! Let’s start today celebrating the 93rd anniversary of one of the most important Brazilian artists, important for making the foundation of what we know today as the modern Brazilian Music. By the time he was alive, the music from Brazil was mainly regional or “country” music, he made a revolution, creating Sambas with sophisticated harmonies, beautiful melodies and revolutionary lyrics, picturing social life of Rio de Janeiro, the people in the 30’s. I’m talking about Noel Rosa.

Noel Rosa was so revolutionary that his music started to be acclaimed only ten years after his passing and as time passes he gets even more popular and recognized as a revolutionary artist. Noel Rosa said that Aracy de Almeida was her best interpreter and I want to say thanks to Moos for this contribution.

This is Aracy de Almeida – Noel Rosa na Voz de Aracy de Almeida (1968), for Continental. Aracy de Almeida tribute to Noel Rosa featuring the best of Noel repertoire. This is probably the third Aracy de Almeida album I had the chance to hear and it is truly amazing. Tracks include:

01 – Meu Barracão
02 – São Coisas Nossas
03 – Fita Amarela
04 – Cor de Cinza
05 – A Melhor do Planeta
06 – Palpite Infeliz
07 – Feitiço da Vila
08 – Pra Que Mentir
09 – Último Desejo
10 – Conversa de Botequim
11 – Não Tem Tradução
12 – Silêncio de Um Minuto

Aracy de Almeida e Ismael Silva – Show Samba Pede Passagem (1966)

My apologies to Ismael Silva, MPB-4, Carlos Poyares, Conjunto Samba Autentico, Partido Alto and Sidney Miller with his Grupo Mensagem, but this album is all about Aracy de Almeida, which is a Samba singer considered by Noel Rosa as the best interpreter of his compositions. Aracy de Almeida has a giant discography, mostly 78 RMPs and more than 50 years on recordings. My apologies also to do not make this post earlier, a friend of zecalouro sent this LP to Loronixers and I’m very happy to show it at the quality deserved.

This is Aracy de Almeida e Ismael Silva – Show Samba Pede Passagem (1966), for Polydor, recorded live at Teatro de Arena, Rio de Janeiro, December 1965, directed by Joao das Neves and Armando Costa, Musical Direction by Maestro Lindolfo Gaya and produced by Grupo Opiniao.

It is a shame that Aracy de Almeida is pretty unknown as a singer in Brazil. I don’t know exactly why and when, she made a shift on her career, leaving professional singing for a participation on a Brazilian TV Show, Show de Calouros, presented by Silvio Santos. I remember by the time Aracy de Almeida passed away, Brazilian media did not make a single mention of the great singer she was, but only as the woman of Show de Calouros. That’s why zecalouro is making two videos, the first is Aracy de Almeida performing Nao Me Diga Adeus (1975) and the second one is an excerpt of her participation at Show the Calouros. By the way, Aracy was fantastic on that show and I had a great time when I was a kid watching her. Tracks include:

Hélio Cabral
João Laurindo

Paulo Thiago
Luis Carlos Sá

Aracy de Almeida – Samba é Aracy de Almeida (1965)

My friends from Brazil will think the zecalouro is going nuts with this post. Those who have less than 45 years old will remember Aracy de Almeida as the bad humour character from a Sunday afternoon show of Silvio Santos. However, Aracy is much more than that, she is simply one of the best performer of Noel Rosa and many other genius from Brazilian music from the early twenty century.

Aracy is so unique that we will start from his last album, Samba é Aracy de Almeida from Elenco, 1965.
