Hello, Good Evening! Starting today with a very requested repost. Actually, not a repost, this album was available at Loronix for a very short period of time and went off-line due some problems with ripping quality. I’m glad that Caetano Rodrigues sent it to us. The music was taken from CD and there will be no bad surprises this time. Thanks Caetano.

This is Azimuth – O Fabuloso Fittipaldi | Trilha Sonora do Filme (1973), for Philips, featuring a very early Azimuth performing Marcos Valle and Paulo Sergio Valle compositions for the Original Soundtrack of O Fabuloso Fittipaldi, a documentary on the legendary race driver Emerson Fittipaldi. The album brings some speech by Emerson Fittipaldi and her wife Maria Helena, but Azimuth performances on top of Marcos and Paulo Sergio Valle compositions are really amazing. I never saw this movie before to see how music blends with film images and as a big Formula 1 fan I’m now very curious to watch it. Tracks include:

01 – Fittipaldi Show (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
02 – Tema de Maria Helena (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
03 – Vitória (Marcos Valle)
04 – Rindt (Marcos Valle)
05 – Acidente (Marcos Valle)
06 – Vinheta I (Marcos Valle)
07 – Vinheta II (Marcos Valle)
08 – Azimuth (Mil Milhas) (Marcos Valle / Novelli / Paulo Sergio Valle)
09 – Tema de Maria Helena (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
10 – Virabrequim (Marcos Valle)

I think Quimsy will not be bored with zeca when he sees this amazing Brazilian instrumental music creation at Loronix. This is a extremely rare album made by Aquarius Producoes Artisticas, which is as far as I know a label owned by Marcos Valle and Azymuth. I never had the chance to see this vinyl and we should thanks Quimsy who first made available at his website (

This is Marcos Valle & Azymuth – Brazil by Music, Fly Cruzeiro (1972), for Aquarius Producoes Artisticas. Fly Cruzeiro is a promotional record, never released commercially with the intent of be used as music to be played inside Cruzeiro airlines flights. The cover artwork I have is so tiny that I asked zeca to make this version, but you can see the original one at the left. If someone can add more information about this album, such as: number of copies, personnel, etc. please let us know. Tracks include:

I’m gradually getting rid of the flu I got yesterday, quite good, only unconfortable with some back and neck pain. That’s why I decided to have a sleep two hours ago while listening to this record. It was a bad idea. This album is very solid and I could not close my eyes while listening. It has been also a very long time since we released the mighty Azymuth at Loronix. Caetano also said his “Muuuuuuito BOM!”, which is a guarantee to any winner album. It seems that every road leads to Azymuth, so I take this train and show this fantastic album to Loronixers.

This is Azymuth – Crazy Rhythm (1987), for Milestone, I’m confident to say that we have one of the best Azymuth albums here. They are really fantastic; the record has an exciting rhythmical atmosphere with Alex Malheiros delivering swinging bass phrases throughout the record. Azymuth has the help of renowned special guests, such as Joe Pass and Paulinho Oliveira. I hope this album makes your day tomorrow. Tracks include:

PersonnelJose Roberto Bertrami
(piano, keyboards)
Alex Malheiros
Ivan Conti
Joe Pass
Paulinho Oliveira

Track List

01 – Bossa Nova Usa (Dave Brubeck)
02 – Tóc de Bola (Alex Malheiros) with Aleuda

I made some research about this LP almost a year ago and for an unknown reason I forgot its existence to consider as a post. Came back to memory last year, actually, last Friday, and it is so cool that I decided to show to Loronixer with no other additional research.

Maybe I’m wrong but, Som Ambiente – Som Ambiente (1972), for CID, is in fact some sort of Azymuth embryo/early stage. I’m not sure about the whole personnel listing, but I have the assumption that Jose Roberto Bertrami organ can be heard in all tracks. The back cover says that Durval Ferreira is in charge of Artistic Direction. Another curiosity about this LP is a supposed photo of the legendary Marcos Valle at the front cover, that guy on a restaurant with a girl. If any Loronix friend has additional info about this release, please let us know. Tracks include:

01 – O Bofe (Erasmo Carlos / Roberto Carlos)
02 – Here’s That Rainy Day (J. Burke / J. V. Heusen)
03 – Bossa Nova In Broadway (Dave Brubeck)
04 – They Long To Be (Close To You) (H. Davis / Burt Bacharach) — People (Funny Girl) (B. Merrill / J. Styne) — Mr Lucky (Henry Mancini)
05 – Love Theme From “The Godfather” (Speak Softly Love) (Nino Rota / L. Kusik)
06 – Where Is The Love (J. Dorn / A. Mardin)
07 – Águas de Março (Tom Jobim) — Bala Com Bala (Aldir Blanc / João Bosco)
08 – Theme From “Summer Of 42” (Michel Legrand / A. Bergman / M. Bergman)
09 – By The Time I Get To Phoenix (J. Webb) — The Shadow Of Your Smile (J. Madel / Paul Francis Webster)
10 – Days Of Wine And Roses (Henry Mancini / Mercer) — Satin Doll (Duke Ellington) — April In Paris (H. Duke) — Lill’darling (N. Hefty)
11 – Live For Life (F. Lai / Norman Gimbel) — Someday My Prince Will Come (Churchill / Morey)

Azimuth, a blend of Brazilian music, Jazz and Funk. zecalouro does not know exactly the meaning of what people use to call the NEW and the OLD Azimuth, maybe the OLD is prior the leaving of Bertrami.

Anyway, this Pieces of Ipanema is quite rare and considered one of the Best NEW Azymuth albums.

This is the second Azymuth album – Aguia nao Come Mosca – the one that gave to this amazing Brazilian instrumental group international recognition.

Azymuth is an electrified trio that calls its music samba doido, which means “crazy samba.” However, the music is not that crazy, it is an intelligent blend of Brazilian rhythms, jazz and funk that sounds unique as their watermark.
