Carlos Lyra & Dulce Nunes - Pobre Menina Rica - Trilha Sonora Original

Hello, good evening! I’m opening the week with a self-explanatory release. Actually, this is the repost of an anthological record, made available at Loronix in February 2007 and moved to draft a couple of weeks later due a technical problems with the transfer. Since then, I lost my hope to make it again, it is out of print and the last reissue was made in the remote year of 1996. This is 1996 CD issue, made available by Loronix Official Audio Engineer, better, our Official Audio Scientist, the mighty AdHoc with another flawless transfer and very solid release. Let’s see.

This is Carlos Lyra e Dulce Nunes – Pobre Menina Rica (1964), for Columbia, music by Carlos Lyra and poetry by Vinicius de Moraes. This is the soundtrack of a play that also had on stage Vinicius de Moraes and Nara Leao, together. Dulce Nunes shares the main performer role with Carlos Lyra and this cute record also features Maestro Moacir Santos, the singer Thelma, Catulo de Paula and Maestro Radames Gnattali as the music director. I’m sure that nothing can go wrong with this fantastic AdHoc’s contribution. By the way, AdHoc suggests Carlos Lyra official website with Carlos Lyra’s statement of the whole story behind the creation of Pobre Menina Rica with Vinicius de Moraes, in Portuguese and English. I wish a very nice and prolific week to all Loronix’s friends around the world. Tracks include:

My choices were many for this last post of Monday, but I had something specific in my mind since the morning that unfortunately had fail in the last minute. The past show that these last minute failures are important to make you dig your collection to find forgotten gems that are ready and waiting for a chance. We need thanks this last minute failure that made zecalouro remembers this old and good Carlos Lyra LP, which deserves to close this amazing Monday.

This is Carlos Lyra – …E no Entanto e Preciso Cantar (1971), for Philips, produced by Roberto Menescal and arranged by Theo de Barros. This album brings well-known Carlos Lyra songs, including the one that I like most, Maria Ninguem, recorded by Joao Gilberto at the anthological Chega de Saudade, Primavera, Cancao que Morre no Ar, Marcha da Quarta Feira de Cinzas among others. Personnel is not credit and Theo de Barros arrangements are beautiful on top of classic Bossa Nova standards. Tracks include:

01 – Identidade (Carlos Lyra)
02 – Minha Namorada (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
03 – I See Me Passing By (Carlos Lyra / Kate Lyra) with Kate Lyra
04 – Rio Vermelho (Carlos Lyra)
05 – Primavera (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
06 – Até Parece (Carlos Lyra)
07 – O Pregoeiro (Carlos Lyra / Jésus Rocha)
08 – Canção Que Morre no Ar (Carlos Lyra / Ronaldo Bôscoli)

This is the kind of album that several Loronixers have been asking, not this one specifically, but something that could capture a live and late Bossa Nova gig on a small place. I’m happy to present this one, here for months, but with no chance to make it. Today it is the time. Let’s see.

This is Carlos Lyra – 25 Anos de Bossa Nova (1987), for the never heard before 3M label. Although released 20 years ago, here at Loronix we can say this is a late live recording. 25 Anos de Bossa was recorded in Jazzmania, a nightclub in Rio de Janeiro, capturing Carlos Lyra on a very relaxed set, talking with the audience, telling stories from the past and performing the best of his repertoire to a small group that gives a great feedback from start to end. It is the kind of show that you wish you were there. Tracks include:

01 – Minha Namorada (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Quando Chegares (Carlos Lyra)
03 – Maria Ninguém (Carlos Lyra)
04 – Lobo Bobo (Carlos Lyra / Ronaldo Bôscoli) — Saudade Fez Um Samba (Carlos Lyra / Ronaldo Bôscoli) –Canção Que Morre no Ar (Carlos Lyra / Ronaldo Bôscoli) — Se É Tarde Me Perdoa (Carlos Lyra / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
05 – Feio Não É Bonito (Carlos Lyra / Gianfrancesco Guarnieri)
06 – Você e Eu (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes) — Coisa Mais Linda (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes) –Samba do Carioca (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes) — Sabe Você (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes) — Pau-de-arara (Comedor de Gilete) (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes) — Maria Moita (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes) — Primavera (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
08 – Influência do Jazz (Carlos Lyra)
09 – O Negócio É Amar (Carlos Lyra / Dolores Duran)
10 – Marcha da Quarta-feira de Cinzas (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)

Carlos Lyra – Gravado no Mexico (1968)

After a long time, Carlos Lyra is back to Loronix with a record that was recommended by Jim, a friend of Loronix and a collector of Brazilian music from the US. This LP, Carlos Lyra – Gravado no Mexico (1968) for Capitol is from the time that Carlos Lyra has lived in Mexico. We had a previous and very popular Carlos Lyra release recorded also in Mexico, Sarava. Check the previous posts using the archive menu at the right side bar to find this record, which I strongly recommend.

Gravado no Mexico has several popular Carlos Lyra songs, such as Maria Ninguem (a zecalouro favorite), Lobo Bobo, Influencia do Jazz, among others. Carlos Lyra had the accompaniement of Conjunto Jazztet, which is probably from Mexico and is also in charge arrangements and musical direction. Tracks include:

01 – Maria Ninguém (Carlos Lyra)
02 – Influência do Jazz (Carlos Lyra)
03 – Canção Que Morre no Ar (Carlos Lyra / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
04 – Gostar Ou Não Gostar (Carlos Lyra)
05 – Primavera (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
06 – Marcha da Quarta-feira de Cinzas (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
07 – Você e Eu (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
08 – Lobo Bobo (Carlos Lyra / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
09 – Minha Namorada (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
10 – Aruanda (Carlos Lyra / Geraldo Vandré)
11 – Coisa Mais Linda (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
12 – Maria Moita (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
13 – Lamento de Um Homem Só (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
14 – Quem Quizer Encontrar o Amor (Carlos Lyra / Geraldo Vandré)

Carlos Lyra, Lais, Lucio Alves, Silvinha Telles, Vinicius de Morais e Conjunto Oscar Castro Neves – Bossa Nova Mesmo (1960)

1 09 2011

When zecalouro received this LP, came to his mind that it was another various artists or compilation. Big mistake, perhaps this can be considered one of the first Bossa Nova albums. Produced by Aloisio de Oliveira and arranged by Oscar Castro Neves, this LP was recorded with one purpose in mind, to introduce Bossa Nova and its main artists to the public.

O Conjunto de Oscar Castro Neves plays in all tracks. This also landmarks the first time Vinicius de Moraes puts his voice on a record in his career. Just to the records, this LP features Conjunto de Oscar Castro Neves, Carlos Lyra, Lais, Lucio Alves, Sylvia Telles and Vinicius de Moraes.

There is only one thing that disturbs zecalouro, the cover. How should they make a record to introduce such a bright and happy music with such a dark and serious artwork? Tracks include:

01 – So em Teus Bracos – Oscar Castro Neves (Antonio Carlos Jobim)
02 – Pela Luz dos Olhos Teus – Vinicius de Moraes (Vinicius de Moraes)
03 – Eu Tambem Preciso de Voce – Oscar Castro Neves (Sylvia Telles)
04 – Obrigada meu Bem – Sylvia Telles (Sylvia Telles / Aloysio de Oliveira)
05 – Chora tua Tristeza – Oscar Castro Neves (Oscar Castro Neves / Luvercy Fiorini)
06 – Com Voce – Sylvia Telles (Julio Hungria)
07 – Patinho Feio – Lais (Oscar Castro Neves / Dolores Duran)
08 – Bim Bom – Oscar Castro Neves (Joao Gilberto)
09 – Tem do de Mim – Carlos Lyra (Carlos Lyra)
10 – Menina Feia – Lucio Alves (Oscar Castro Neves / Luvercy Fiorini)
11 – Meditacao – Oscar Castro Neves (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Newton Mendonca)
12 – Gosto do Seu Olhar – Oscar Castro Neves (Iko Castro Neves / Luvercy Fiorini)

Carlos Lyra – Depois do Carnaval, O Sambalanço de Carlos Lyra (1963)

Publicado em: Saturday, July 29, 2006 by zecalouro

With arrangements by Luiz Eca, Tamba Trio and guest vocals by Nara Leao on Promessa de Voce, Carlos Lyra is back to Loronix, with the 1963 classic, Depois do Carnaval, O Sambalanço de Carlos Lyra.

Depois do Carnaval is a landmark on Lyra’s career and Brazilian music. It is the first Bossa Nova LP with political lyrics, all composed by Lyra, announcing a start of a more political oriented approach. Unfortunately, the use of political oriented records was aborted in 1964 with the change of politics with records being censored by the dictatorship.

Lyra had to move to Mexico, as a matter of fact, there is a wonderful Carlos Lyra LP available at Loronix archives, Savara, widely acclaimed zecalouro’s friends. Inspite politics, this LP shows Lyra at his best with nice melodies, complex harmonization and a lot of groove provided by the Luiz Eca and Tamba Trio.
