Hello, good evening! Brazil celebrates Carmen Miranda 100th Centennial today. She was born in 9 February 1909. I’m disappointed for not having any album with her unique music to make a tribute. However, it is essential that Loronix makes this tribute.

I like this picture with Carmen Miranda without all that tropical clothes and I hope you also like it. In addition, I’m making available two videos that are really worth checking out. The first video features Carmen Miranda hosted by Ed Wynn in 1949, United States. She has the accompaniment of the legendary O Bando da Lua, and you can notice the presence of Aloysio de Oliveira among O Bando da Lua members. Thanks to Doni Sacramento for this important document.

The second features the last known Carmen Miranda images and impressive scenes of her funeral in Rio de Janeiro, 1955. Thanks to In Memorian website for sharing this film.

I hope our tribute to Carmen Miranda is respectful and appropriate to the importance of this great artist.

Hope uEnjoy!

Hello, good evening! Nice Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, a perfect weather with the sun between clouds. I had a really pleasant day with Mon, Daddy, Brothers and my other birds, Juca, Juliana, Lila, Julinha. Anyway, perfect day. Among Mom contributions, I found this one, an album that I did not know the existence that fits perfect to address a demand of many Loronixers for Carmen Miranda. Let’s see.

This is Carmen Miranda – A Pequena Notavel (no date), for MIS. Although a true Brazilian popular music legend, I never found a record featuring Carmen Miranda with this kind of detail. There are several compilations available, but they are always assembled with no criterion, additional information and chronological standpoint. This one is different, released under a careful research by MIS and features Carmem Miranda backed by Pixinguinha, Benedito Lacerda, Simon Boutman, Conjunto Odeon, Barbosa Junior, Luperce Miranda and others. The recordings were taken from the years of Carmen Miranda in Brazil before she made her move to the US, with the exception of track 11 – Disseram que Voltei Americanizada. If you are among the group of many friends waiting for Carmen Miranda, the waiting is over. Tracks include:

01 – Cachorro Vira-lata (Alberto Ribeiro) – Featuring: Conjunto Regional de Benedito Lacerda (1937)
02 – Camisa Listrada (Assis Valente) – Featuring: Grupo da Odeon (1937)
03 – Eu Dei (Ary Barroso) – Featuring: Conjunto Regional (1937)
04 – Quem É (Custódio Mesquita / Juraci Camargo) – Featuring: Barbosa Júnior e Grupo da Odeon (1937)
05 – Deixa Falar (Nelson Petersen) – Featuring: Ary Barroso (introdução falada) e Orquestra Odeon (1938)
06 – Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso) – Featuring: Orquestra Odeon (Reg. Simon Bountman) (no date)
07 – Me Dá Me Dá (Portello Juno / Cícero Nunes) – Featuring: Conjunto Regional de Benedito Lacerda (1937)
08 – Como “Vaes” Você (Ary Barroso) – Featuring Conjunto Regional de Pixinguinha e Luperce Miranda (1936)
09 – E o Mundo Não Se Acabou (Assis Valente) – Featuring: Conjunto Regional (1938)
10 – Na Bahia (Herivelto Martins / Humberto Porto) – Featuring: Trio Dalva de Oliveira e Conjunto Regional (1938)
11 – Disseram Que Voltei Americanizada (Vicente Paiva / Luis Peixoto) – Featuring: Conjunto Odeon (1940)
12 – No Tabuleiro da Baiana (Luis Barbosa) – Featuring: Luperce Miranda e Seu Conjunto (1936)
.

Esse disco pode ser buscado na Rádio Forma e Elenco do Martoni.

Lovely, we have here a tiny little piece of record provided by Mr. W. with several nice surprises and curiosities that you would like very much. Actually, Arara Azul sent also a Carmen Miranda LP as zecalouro Christmas gift, but it is a complex post that I’m saving for later. Thanks Mr. W. Thanks Arara Azul.

This is Ann Sothern, Jane Powell, Carmen Miranda and Danny Scholl – Nancy Goes to Rio (1950) – 10″, for MGM, released in Brazil as Romance Carioca. Can you believe that? It is true, this LP has also the participation of O Bando da Lua and landmarks the first international performance of the Brazilian genre Baiao with the song Caroom Pa Pa.

Mr. W. gave all details, saying also that a special attention should be given to the song IPSE-AI-O, a Samba, composed by Ray Gilbert, featuring O Bando da Lua. Another track to be highlighted is Love Is Like This, performed by Jane Powell, which is in fact Carinhoso (Pixinguinha) with English lyrics by Ray Gilbert. Breathtaking, short and amazing, don’t miss it. Tracks include:

01 – Love Is Like This – Jane Powell – (Gilbert-Vianna)
02 – Time and Time Again – Ann Sothern and Danny Scholl – (Brent-Spielman)
03 – YIPSEE-I-0 – Carmen Miranda – (Gilbert)
04 – Magic Is The Moonlight – Jane Powell and Ann Sothern – (Pasquale-Grever)

.

Não tinha este disco. Porém, graças aos amigos bOssas nOvas e Martoni, ele hoje está disponível na Rádio Forma e Elenco.
