COISAS DA MINHA TERRA - codó

Hello, good evening! This is another awesome contribution sponsored by Jorge Mello, featuring – forgive me if I’m wrong – the last album recorded by the Brazilian guitarist Codo, a very important musician acknowledged by many others, such like Elizeth Cardoso and Baden Powell, who wrote a tune dedicated to Codo, Um Abraco no Codo, released on Baden Powell’s 27 Horas de Estudio (1969), Elenco. Let’s see.

This is Codo – Coisas da Minha Terra (1978), for CID, a beautiful celebration to Codo’s music. Codo is backed by a constellation of Brazilian musicians, including Sivuca (also in charge of arrangements), Wilson das Neves, Dino 7 Cordas, Copinha, Neco, Paulo Moura, among many others. Coisas da Minha Terra works under two different concepts. Side A is all instrumental and brings an interview with Codo between the four tracks with the participation of Sergio Cabral, Sivuca and Antonio Mascarenhas. Side B has lyrics with Codo singing, playing and supported by a choir, including Jaime Alem and Nair Candia. Elizeth Cardoso is the special guest on Side A second track, Indecisa Aurora (Codo / Itamar Souza e Silva). Coisas da Minha Terra should address wants and needs of everybody with these two different approaches. Tracks include:

Hello, good afternoon! I was making a website migration yesterday and decided to read a magazine while waiting for a DNS refresh. The DNS was refreshed, but I slept by accident at the couch while reading the magazine. It happens every time. This is the reason why I’m making this extraordinary mid afternoon post, since it was supposed to be released yesterday. Let’s see.

This is Codo – Um Violao Muito Bom Modestia a Parte (1969), for the legendary label Copacabana, featuring Codo violao performing a blend of his own compositions with Brazilian and some international tunes. Maestro Ivan Paulo is in charge of the arrangements and Ismael Correa is the producer. Thanks to Jorge Mello for another Codo album, a musician that was recently introduced to our community that never had a chance to be reissued on CD. Tracks include:

01 – Nagasaki (Codó)
02 – A Time For Us (Tema de Romeu e Julieta) (L. Kuisik / E. Snyder / Nino Rota)
03 – Uma Flor Por Um Amor (Roberto Ladeira / Heloísa Bezerra)
04 – Duro Com Duro (Codó)
05 – Begin The Beguine (Cole Porter)
06 – Laranja Madura (Ataulfo Alves) Você Passa Eu Acho Graça (Ataulfo Alves / Carlos Imperial) Vida da Minha Vida (Ataulfo Alves)

11 – Garota da Tijuca (Codó)
12 – Não Quero Ver Você Triste (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos) Como É Grande o Meu Amor Por Você (Roberto Carlos)
.

Codo - Codo e o Violao - Serie Talento Brasileiro 3 (1977)

Hello, good evening! I want start the day with a great find, courtesy zecalouro’s mother, gradually improving her contributions and now deserves the title of a good vinyl hunter. She comes this time showing an important musician never released before at Loronix, Clodoaldo Brito, widely known as Codo, a Brazilian guitarist and composer from the state of Bahia. Codo had a active career as musician, recording eight albums as main performer, two singles and more than 90 compositions. Let’s see.

This is Codo – Codo e o Violao | Serie Talento Brasileiro 3 (1977), for CID, featuring six instrumental renditions of Brazilian standards and six Codo compositions, the ones that I like most. Codo delivers a unique playing style, accompanied by not credited musicians. My highlight goes to 07 – Brincando com as Cordas (Codo), which is the selected Loronix Preview Center track. I’m convinced everybody should have a solid entertainment with this first album and Codo forthcoming releases at Loronix. Tracks include:

01 – Quadradinho (Codó)
02 – Viola Enluarada (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
03 – Beija-me (Roberto Martins / Mário Rossi)
04 – Aos Pés da Cruz (Zé da Zilda / Marino Pinto)
05 – Gamadinho (Codó)
06 – Capoeira Três (Codó)
