Hello, good evening! Let’s update one of the albums that I like most, released a long time ago at Loronix, precisely, January 15th. I could never understand why people did not comment this one. Perhaps this minimalistic black and white Philips cover did not gather our community attention or the music was not well transferred. Anyway, I’m happy to bring Show de Bossa to the spotlight again, the transfer is much better and the missing back cover is now available. Let’s see.

This Corisco e Os Sambaloucos – Show de Bossa (1963), for Philips. Corisco e Os Sambaloucos is lead by Waldemar Marchetti, a Brazilian percussionist very active in the 60’s, releasing with Corisco e Os Sambaloucos more than five albums. Corisco always brings top-notch musicians to his recording sessions and Show de Bossa is not different, featuring Hamilton Godoy (the legendary Zimbo Trio pianist), Heraldo do Monte (guitar), Xu (bass) and others. Tracks include:

Waldemar Marchetti

Jorge Ben - Salve Simpatia

Jorge Ben - Salve Simpatia-Back

Hello, good evening! I would be completely satisfied just watching this cover artwork with this really nice guy shaking hands with a friend and being embraced by a beautiful girl. I would be also very pleased if I found inside just a single track, Ive Brussel, with the participation of Caetano Veloso, blockbuster at the end of the 70’s in Brazil and a really nice song. However, this is not what Salve Simpatia has to offer, in spite of my great lack of knowledge of the entire work of Jorge Ben, this album seems to be one of his greatest. It is also a great cover, it is impossible to take my eyes out of it and give the necessary attention to music. Finally, I learned to admire Jorge Ben through Loronix and I hope you also have the same fun I had this week when I discovered this album. Let’s see.

This is Jorge Ben – Salve Simpatia (1979), for Som Livre, featuring well-known Jorge Ben tracks such like the title track Salve Simpatia and Jorge Ben duet with Caetano Veloso on Ive Brussel. I never heard about a CD reissue of Salve Simpatia and it is amazing that is currently out of print. Tracks include:

Ed Lincoln - Orgao Espetacular (1961)

I thought we would never have the chance to make a new Ed Lincoln album at Loronix and now I’m wondering why I had this wrong perception. Perhaps I got it from the vast Ed Lincoln discography with albums recorded with nicknames, such like: Berry Benton, Les 4 Cadillacs, Claudio Marcello, Muchacho nas Bocas, among several others. Ed Lincoln released several albums under his own name, they are all out of print and I have a few ones to show in the forthcoming months. Let’s see.

This is Ed Lincoln – Orgao Espetacular (1961), for Musidisc, by the way, his first album at Musidisc. One of the things I like most on Ed Lincoln albums is his own picture on cover artworks, and this one is very cool, featuring a very young Ed Lincoln flying on some kind of magic cushion. Personnel is not credit, but Musidisc liner notes informs that Ed Lincoln plays piano and organ, using playback to make a line of organ and piano and even two lines of organs. The repertoire blends Brazilian standards and international songs, starting with my choice to Loronix Preview Center, 01 – Aquarela do Brasil. Tracks include:

01 – Aquarela do Brasil (Ary Barroso)
02 – Locomotion (Joe Loco)
03 – Seleção de ”Can-can” (Cole Porter)
04 – Ai Mourrir Pour Toi (Charles Aznavour)
05 – Mulher de Trinta (Luis Antônio)
06 – Sentimental Journey (Green / Brown / Homer)
07 – Arrasta a Sandalia (Osvaldo Vasques “Baiaco” / Aurélio Gomes) Não Põe a Mão (Mutt / Arnô Canegal / Bucy Moreira)
08 – Teléco-téco Nº 2 (Nelsinho / O. Magalhães)
09 – Hey There (Adler / Ross)
10 – O Amor e a Rosa (Pernambuco / Antônio Maria)
11 – That Old Black Magic (Arlen / Mercer)
12 – Vivendo e Aprendendo (Ed Lincoln / Silvio César)

.

Forma & Elenco is a radio show broadcasted every Saturday on Brazilian radio and Internet streaming. I know there are many radios and many shows in Brazil. However, Forma & Elenco is really special, it is all about Bossa Nova and it is produced and presented by Leo Ribeiro Jr., a great Loronixer. Loronix and Forma & Elenco are connected; Leo uses to make the show agenda based on the music available at Loronix. Additionally, Leo does not miss the chance to make beautiful statements about Loronix, mentioning zecalouro and several other Loronix friends.

I urge Loronixers to join Leo on his show, every Saturday at 7pm with a new broadcast in the following day, Sunday at 11am, Brazilian time. Forma & Elenco Radio streams the show at http://www.fm107rc.com.br/

The tireless Leo Ribeiro Jr. has also established a website with my great friend Martoni from The Netherlands, which is the owner and maintainer of Radio Forma & Elenco blog, http://www.martoni-formaeelenco.blogspot.com, with everything about the show, including audio from past programs in case you miss one. Congratulations Leo and Martoni for this great new resource.

Leo delivers Loronix agenda today, providing this beautiful and pretty unknown Dom Salvador album. Dom Salvador and Leo Ribeiro Jr. are friends and share something in common; they were born in the city of Rio Claro, in the middle of Sao Paulo state, as indicated at the yellow arrow at the map in your left.

Dom Salvador was nominated Cidadao Hemerito of Rio Claro city in June 2007, being there to receive his nomination and also give a concert. Guess who was there with Dom Salvador? Leo Ribeiro Jr. that recorded this interview with this legendary musician sending the whole audio as a gift to our community. Thanks Leo. You can hear the whole show with Dom Salvador participation downloading the audio at this link, Forma & Elenco Especial – Dom Salvador.

This is Dom Salvador Quartet – Rio Claro Suite (1984), with all music except for Farofa Amarela composed and arranged by Dom Salvador. I think Loronixers will be surprise by the chance to hear this really unknown Dom Salvador album, recorded in the US with the accompaniment of great musicians. Tracks include:

Personnel

Dom Salvador
(piano, accordion, surdo, pandeiro)
Dick Oatts
(sax, flute)
Dennis Irwin
(bass)
Duduka da Fonseca
(drums, percussion, berimbau)
Dona Isabel
(Salvador’s mother)
(vocals)
Nestor
(violao)

Track List

01 – Arroz de Festa (Dom Salvador)
02 – Depois da Chuva (Dom Salvador)

Varios Artistas – Matematica, Zero… Amor, Dez (1958)

Publicado em: Friday, October 05, 2007 by zecalouro

This album was supposed to be one of the greatest zecalouro’s mother findings ever. Let’s say it still her great finding, but there is a major and unacceptable failure with this album. The vinyl played perfect on side A, however, side B is exactly the same as side A. Columbia made both sides as A by mistake. Such like the missing Joao Gilberto track, I’m now asking for Loronixers help to find the missing side B of this fantastic album. Let’s see, half of it.

This is Matematica, zero… Amor, Dez… (1958), for Columbia, the OST of the Brazilian movie, featuring a constellation at t cast with acting performances of Lyrio Panicali (as Lyrio Panicali e Sua Orquestra), Tito Madi, Lana Bittencourt, Maysa Mattarazo (as Maysa), Sylvio Mazzucca (as Sylvio Mazucca e Sua Orquestra), Sergio Murilo, Carlos Machado, Luiz Claudio and others, almost all the artists we know acting. Unfortunately, only side A is available. Tracks include:

01 – Menina Moça (Luis Antônio) – Tito Madi
02 – Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso) – Lana Bittencourt
03 – Sax Cantabile (Armando Dominguez) – Silvio Mazzuca e Sua Orquestra
04 – Avental da Pastora (Luis Antônio / Amado Regis) – Coro Columbia
05 – Rosa Morena (Dorival Caymmi) – Trigêmeos Vocalistas
06 – Vassourinha (Mathias da Rocha / Joana Batista Ramos) – Lyrio Panicali e Sua Orquestra
07 – On The Button (Nº 5) (J. J. Donnelly / V. L. Mott) – Banda Marcial do Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais
08 – O Milagre da Volta (Fernando César / A. Cavalcanti) – Lana Bittencourt (*)
09 – Apito no Samba (Luis Bandeira) – Lyrio Panicali e Sua Orquestra (*)
10 – Rock de Morte (Nadir Peres / Lyrio Panicali) – Sergio Murilo (*)
11 – The Thunderer (Nº 9) (J. P. Souza / J. J. Donnelly / V. L. Mott) – Banda Marcial do Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais (*)
12 – Chora Pierrot (Luis Antônio) – Alcides Gerardi (*)
13 – Recado (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio) – Luis Cláudio (*)
14 – Marcha dos Fuzileiros Navais (Na Vanguarda) (Luis Cândido da Silveira) – Banda doCorpo de Fuzileiros Navais (*)

(*) at the missing side.

.

Como comentado pelo Zeca, apenas o lado A do disco estava disponível. Porém, nosso amigo Leandro do blog The Best of Vinil nos enviou o disco completo, que foi processado pelo amigo Pedro e publicado pelo Milan no Parallel Realities.

Loronix has a very good friend that keeps a channel at YouTube with more than 400 vintage Brazilian videos available. I took three to introduce Loronixers to his video channel, Os Tres Morais, Doris Monteiro and the greatest one, Eliana Pittman and Booker Pittman, together on Brazilian TV, 1963.

These are very short excerpts, but really worth watching, mainly Booker and Eliana Pittman. Don’t miss Isquericrou YouTube channel, here.

This is a great Tamba Trio performance, but I had to think a lot before showing to Loronixers. The image is low-res, such as this opening picture, the sound is out of sync and the overall quality is really poor. If you mind with these issues, skip it. If you take it in consideration from a historical perspective, go ahead. Luiz Eca is all happiness, Bebeto swaps between bass and flute and Osmar Milito delivers solid drumming wearing a vest, his trademark. That’s the deal. Let’s see.

Hope uEnjoy!

Hello, Good Evening! We are starting today with the first out of two Baden Powell music videos to be released today as Loronix tribute to Baden Powell. If alive, Baden Powell would be making his 70th years birthday today. I think this is a really special date. I’m extremely busy this week and I could not check the news, but I think there are concerts all around celebrating this great artists.

This is Baden Powell – Os Afrosambas, with Baden speaking about Os Afrosambas creation and performing Canto de Ossanha with Vinicius de Moraes, Toquinho and Miucha. I hope this series of videos sent by rb.ardiles helps Loronixers to understand a little bit more about Baden Powell.

Hope uEnjoy!

Existem vários vídeos dessa apresentação do Baden Powell disponíveis no Youtube. Porém, não está claro quais seriam as músicas que ele toca no vídeo original. Pelo que descreveu nosso amigo bOssas nOvas, a apresentação começaria com “Samba do Avião” e prosseguiria com “Das Rosas”.

Luiz Harding sent us a video this week that is really worth showing Loronixers. Erroll Garner and crew recorded it in 1962. I don’t have info about the nature of this performance, perhaps a rehearsal or a TV show, but they are really confused playing Samba de Uma Nota So (One Note Samba). This video helps understanding how difficult it was for international musicians to play Bossa Nova. Thanks Luiz Harding, nice pick.

Hope uEnjoy!

This was probably one of the hardest to find albums recorded by Dick Farney, actually this is the hardest Dick Farney on 12-inch, the first Dick Farney albums released at the 10-inch format seems to be near to impossible. Luiz strikes again, now with music and video. A legendary Dick Farney fan that we know will probably have breakfast tomorrow with the sound of the piano.

This is Dick Farney – Um Piano ao Cair da Tarde Nr. 2 (1975), for Odeon, the continuation of the nice Um Piano ao Cair da Tarde, already available at Loronix. The same sucessful formula, Dick Farney for advanced listeners, no bass, no drums, no singing, only Dick Farney and the piano with a repertoire of standards. In addition to the music, I’m showing a wonderful video with the complete participation of Dick Farney Trio at TV Cultura. The video has a relaxed atmosphere with Dick Farney singing and backed by Toninho (drums) and Saba (bass). Tracks include:

01 – You Go To My Head (H. Gillespie / J. F. Coots)
02 – Autumn Leaves (Les Feuilles Mortes) (J. Kosma / J. Prevert)
03 – What’s New (B. Haggart / J. Burke)
04 – Georgia On My Mind (H. Carmichael)
05 – September Song (Kurt Weill / W. Anderson)
06 – Because Of You (A. Hammerstein / D. Wilkinson)
07 – Tea For Two (V. Youmans / I. Cassar)
08 – It Might as Well Be Spring (R. Rodgers / O. Hammerstein II)
09 – When I Fall In Love (V. Young / E. Heyman)
10 – St Louis Blues (W. C. Handy)
11 – My Funny Valentine (R. Rodgers / L. Hart)
12 – Swanee River (Old Folks At Home) (S. Forster)

Hello, Good Evening! I’m sick. Yesterday and today’s morning I was really bad, but since the middle of the afternoon I’m getting better. I think I can make some posts today, starting with this one, videos are easy to make available and this is not an ordinary video, it is Raul de Souza and Hector Costita, together. Thanks Luiz Harding for this video, Luiz sent a lot of videos and music to us.

That’s it. Coming back slowly to do the things right. I’m sure Raulzinho will make you entertained until the next post.

Last minute info by Luiz Harding: Raul de Souza is backed by the Brazilian instrumental ensemble Placa Luminosa, which is Ari Nascimento (bass), Luizao (drums), Ribah Nascimento (guitar) and Rik Escobar (piano).

Hope uEnjoy!

Hello, Good Evening! It is amazing this fantastic album has gone out of print only seven years before it was issued for the first time. This is another request originated by the folks of Quadradinho (Loronix message box at the side bar), by the way, Quadradinho has been an attraction and you should move your eyeballs there. This post is zecalouro homage to Quadradinho friends, they are making a better Loronix.

This is a request from Quadradinho (Cbox) friends. It was recorded in 1984, TV Cultura, I don’t know if this quintet has a name, so I’m giving the name “Jazz Quintet”. Very well played instrumental music by Evaldo (piano), William (drums), Itamar (bass), Alan (trumpet) and Bauru (sax). Thanks Luiz Harding for this very nice music.

Hope uEnjoy!

Just a quick and extraordinary Saturday morning music video to make the day of friends from Quadradinho. This is Mauricio Einhorn and the Brazilian guitarist Edgar Gianulo, kindly provided by Luiz Harding. By the way, there are several new Luiz Harding videos waiting for posting, they should come to life in the forthcoming days. Now it is time to receive comments from Quadradinho friends telling us who is the acclaimed Edgar Gianulo.

Quadradinho is the message box at Loronix sidebar. If you want a downloadable AVI file, please check Edison Machado’s blog, here.

Hope uEnjoy!
