Hello, good evening! I spent a lot of energy trying to make a nice transfer of this beautiful and important album. Unfortunately, the outcome was a little behind the others. Violao solo albums are always difficult to transfer. Sometimes the silence is part of the music and any imperfection becomes easily audible. However, this is an above the average violao only album, recorded by one of the most influent Brazilian violao players, Dilermando Reis. Let’s see.

This is Dilermando Reis – Sua Majestade o Violao (1957), for Continental, his 12-inch LP, featuring fascinating Dilermando Reis renditions of classical tunes on side A and Brazilian popular music on side B. I cannot decide which side I like most, but track 05 – Noturno Nº 2 Opus 10 (Frederic Chopin) really made my mind today and it is my choice on our preview feature, available just before the download links. Tracks include:

01 – Malagueña (Ernesto Lecuona)
02 – Pavana (Francisco Tárrega)
03 – Clair de Lune (Debussy)
04 – Romanza (Schumann)
05 – Noturno Nº 2 Opus 10 (Frederic Chopin)
06 – Se Ela Perguntar (Dilermando Reis / Jair Amorim)
07 – Romance de Amor (Vicente Gomes)
08 – Índia (José Asunción Flores / Manuel Ortiz Guerrero)
09 – Foi Bôto Sinhá (Waldemar Henrique / Antônio Tavernard)
10 – Araguaia (Dilermando Reis)
11 – Marcha Triunfal Brasileira (Benedito Chaves)

Hello, good evening! If our mission is to tell the story of Brazilian popular music, it would fail if we skip this duo formed by a singer and an instrumentalist. The singer is Francisco Petronio, being introduced for the first time at Loronix, and by the way, an important singer. Francisco Petronio recorded over 50 LPs in a career that started late and lasted no more than two decades. Dilermando Reis does not requires an introduction, his violao is the only instrument heard at this album and this is the first time we have an album by Dilermando Reis accompanying a singer. They recorded together 7 LPs in this series of seresta performance, a genre we are getting along for the first time at Loronix. Let’s see.

This is Francisco Petronio e Dilermando Reis – Uma Voz, e Um Violao em Serenata Vol. 2 (1963), for Continental, the second out of seven seresta albums release by the duo. Although the cover in the spirit of a serenata, I think a brief explanation is needed. Seresta or Serenata is music for a lover, in the evening time below the lover or the candidate window. I think it is something that belongs to the past, not the music, but the attitude of singing below someone else window. Anyway, the music speaks by itself. Tracks include:

01 – Sob o Céu de Brasília (Dilermando Reis / José Fortuna)
02 – Reflorir da Minha Vida (Saint-Clair Sena)
03 – A Pequenina Cruz do Teu Rosário (Roberto Xavier de Castro / Fernando Weyne)
04 – Flor do Mal (Santos Coelho)
05 – Última Inspiração (Peterpan)
06 – Serenata (Silvio Caldas / Orestes Barbosa)
07 – Dois Destinos (Dilermando Reis / José Fortuna)
08 – Pálida Morena (Freire Júnior)
09 – Revendo o Passado (Freire Júnior)
10 – Uma Valsa e Dois Amores (Dilermando Reis / José Fortuna)
11 – Não Sei (Francisco Alves / Orestes Barbosa)
12 – Lágrimas (Cândido das Neves “Índio”)

Hello, good evening! When I started this transfer tonight, I realized that I could not get away from the turntable hearing the opening track 01 – Gotas de Lagrimas, which is also the title track, a beautiful waltz, and perhaps a complex and challenging piece to any guitar player, absolutely unknown to me. Later, a few Google searches were enough to understand that Mozart Bicalho (Gotas de Lagrimas composer) is another Brazilian guitar master, compared to big names such like Joao Pernambuco and Canhoto. I will tell you a little bit more about this piece. Let’s see.

This is Dilermando Reis – Gotas de Lagrimas (1963), for Continental, another worth checking Dilermando Reis LP, featuring his own compositions and renditions of well-known instrumental tunes. Gotas de Lagrimas was recorded for the first time by Mozart Bicalho in 1930, having its first transcription in the early 1960’s by Dilermando Reis, who made a very important work of publishing in written music many tunes that are considered today a very important part of Brazilian guitar tradition. As a whole, Gotas de Lagrimas is a delicious album, tailored for musicians and people who just want to appreciate beautiful tunes played by a really gifted musician. Tracks include:

01 – Gotas de Lágrimas (Mozart Bicalho)
02 – Brejeiro (Ernesto Nazareth)
03 – Volve Volve (Carola)
04 – La Cumparsita (Matos Rodrigues)
05 – Rapsódia Infantil (Dilermando Reis)
06 – Nossa Ternura (Dilermando Reis)
07 – Cateretê Mineiro (Levino Conceição)
08 – Cisne Branco (Antônio Manoel do Espírito Santo / Benedito Xavier de Macedo)
09 – Eterna Saudade (Dilermando Reis)
10 – Interrogando (João Pernambuco)
11 – Gauchinha (Dilermando Reis)
12 – Suspiro da Nega (Nelson Piló)

Dilermando Reis - Dilermando Reis Interpreta Pixinguinha (1972) Front

Hello, good evening! Google Analytics is an amazing piece of software. Analytics collects websites statistics, and delivers findings about your site and your site visitors. Since the launching of our last Loronix Find It version, I’m using Analytics to gather information on search terms used by Loronixers. The results are important to understand what friends are looking for at Loronix and so far they are amazing. A total of 3,825 searches were made so far and the second most popular search is Dilermando Reis. Let’s see.

This is Dilermando Reis – Dilermando Reis Interpreta Pixinguinha (1972), for Continental, featuring Dilermando Reis violao performing instrumental solo renditions of Pixinguinha compositions. The searches were right. Dilermando Reis is a very important musician. He had an active recording career, releasing more than 45 LPs during decades of activity. Dilermando also made a strong contribution on the development of the Brazilian violao, on a time in which the quality of a popular repertoire for the instrument was quite small. Tracks include:

Hello, good evening! This cover artwork is very beautiful, but every time I take a look, it makes me remember Nelson Cavaquinho, I will tell why. Nelson had a great fear of death, which is something clear at his compositions with several lyrics having death as a theme. Nelson Cavaquinho would never release an album like this, the clouds and the title, Subindo ao Ceu, free translated as Going up to the Sky, in English. Let’s take this image and this title with another meaning, going up to the sky with the beautiful violao playing and compositions by Dilermando Reis, which is problably what Continental had in mind when creating this title and cover art. Let’s see.

This is Dilermando Reis – Subindo ao Ceu (1966), for Continental, featuring only Dilermando Reis violao performing his own compositions. This is the second Dilermando Reis album made available to Loronxiers, much better than the first one with songs from several countries. Dilermando Reis delivers better results performing his own compositions. The exception is the first track, which is the one that gives the album title, composed by Aristides Borges, a beautiful valsa. Tracks include:

01 – Subindo ao Céu (Aristides Borges)
02 – Conversa de Baiana (Dilermando Reis)
03 – Romântica (Dilermando Reis)
04 – Baile na Fronteira (Dilermando Reis)
05 – Valsa das Hortências (Dilermando Reis)
06 – Desengano (Dilermando Reis)
07 – Enquanto Meu Amor Não Vem (Dilermando Reis)
08 – Moderninho (Dilermando Reis)
09 – Ana Cristina (Dilermando Reis)
10 – Prelúdio Em Forma de Oração (Dilermando Reis)
11 – Reclamando (Dilermando Reis)
12 – Alma Nortista (Dilermando Reis)

This parrot needs vacation. This album was perfect to be released on our Music from All Countries celebration, but zecalouro forgot to make it. Big fault, he as two in his collection, he bought the second just to get a better cover artwork, which is really beautiful. Dilermando Reis is considered one of the best violao players in Brazil and this his first album at Loronix, a very late release to fill a missing point. Dilermando Reis has a vast discography and this is one of his first albums.

This is Dilermando Reis – A Volta ao Mundo com Dilermando Reis (1959), for Continental. This is a guitar only album with Dilermando Reis renditions of music from several countries. It is delicious to hear, Dilermando Reis has a romantic playing style, very hard to describe writing, and you should take it for a hearing. Dilermando Reis first 78rpm was released in 1941 and he recorded until two years before his passing with 61. As professor, Dilermando Reis counts as his disciples the ex-president of Brazil Juscelino Kubitschek and the renowned Bola Sete and Darci Vilaverde. Tracks include:

01 – Na Baixa do Sapateiro (BRASIL)
02 – Ausencia (PARAGUAI)
03 – La Despedida (CHILE)
04 – Milongueiro del Ayer (ARGENTINA)
05 – Estrelita (MEXICO)
06 – An Affair to Remember – Love is a Many Splendored Thing (USA)
07 – Danca Nr. 5 (ESPANHA)
08 – Comme Prima (ITALIA)
09 – Amoureuse (FRANCA)
10 – Uma Noite em Haifa (ISRAEL)
11 – Jalousie (FINLANDIA)
12 – Olhos Negros – Duas Guitarras (RUSSIA)
