Really nice find of our Para Dancar specialist Mauro R.V., delivering this time a very old album in the 10-inch format, which is also the first Djalma Ferreira LP and the second 10-inch released by the record label Musidisc as Musidisc M-002. Great find Mauro R.V. and thanks a million for your continuous support to Loronix. Mauro R.V. needs special thanks from our community; he purchased a scanner, just to make better contributions. And as you can see at this cover, Mauro is doing great. Let’s see.

This is Djalma Ferreira e Milionarios do Ritmo – Parada de Danca Nr. 1 (1953), for Musidisc, featuring seven Djalma Ferreira compositions and a Samba by Nestor Campos and Walter Santos. Parada de Danca Nr. 1 also features the Brazilian singer Helena de Lima as special guest on tracks 07 and 08. Actually, I’m not sure if she makes a special participation or Helena de Lima is a member of Milionarios do Ritmo. Anyway, Helena de Lima recorded her first solo LP three years later at Continental. Tracks include:

01 – Romance (Djalma Ferreira) Beguine
02 – Samba no Perroquet (Djalma Ferreira) Samba
03 – Fantasia (Djalma Ferreira) Beguine
04 – Brigas e Pazes (Djalma Ferreira) Beguine
05 – Concerto Em Samba (Djalma Ferreira) Samba
06 – Casa do Loló (J. Bicalho / Djalma Ferreira) Samba
07 – Tanto Quanto Eu (Nestor Campos / W. Santos) Samba with Helena de Lima
08 – Eu Já Não Sei (Djalma Ferreira / C. Nunes) Samba with Helena de Lima

I was really surprised with the time we take to identify all musicians on our last challenge, with that panorama photo presented. The legends were easy to identify, everybody know the faces of Djalma Ferreira, Miltinho and Ed Lincoln, but the enigma was the identification of the piston and bass player.

Marco Antonio Russi made a nice job identifying the piston player, Araken Peixoto, brother of the Brazilian singer Cauby Peixoto. Caetano Rodrigues give two nice hypothesis for the bass player at Cbox, Baden Powell or Waltel Branco. The Sambasonic Marcelo Munhoz made his bet on Waltel Branco and I think we really have Waltel Branco playing bass. With the challenge ending it is now time to see, sorry, hear the music.

This is Djalma Ferreira e Seus Milionarios do Ritmo – Drink (1958), for Discos Drink, gradually, we are collecting Djalma Ferreira discography at his own Discos Drink Label. Os Milionarios do Ritmo was the accompaniment band of Djalma Ferreira and several renowned musicians were member on the various formations of Milionarios do Ritmo. In this blend of instrumental and lyrics album, we have Miltinho singing in English and Portuguese, Ed Linconl and possibly the great Waltel Branco playing bass. I will let you with Djalma Ferreira music and his successful records released by his own Discos Drink. Tracks include:

Araken Peixoto
Waltel Branco (?)

Hello, Good Evening! I never started that late a night at Loronix. I’m coming from Easter time with my parents. I spend always half an hour driving back from their home and today I took two. The reason was a rainstorm that finally has arrived in Rio, a late rainstorm, supposed to happen on March, but with this crazy world of today just came almost in the middle of April. I was wondering in the car, Jobim would not write Aguas de Marco as he did living in the world today, he would not write “Sao as aguas de Marco fechando o Verao”. The Waters of March did not close summer this year.

Anyway, let’s start with a record that has something unique, personnel listing and a different atmosphere, recorded by the owner of a label that produced coolest covers of the late 50’s, Discos Drink.

This is Djalma Ferreira e Os Seus Milionarios do Ritmo – Depois do Drink (1959), for Discos Drink. Remember Djalma Ferreira, the very famous Brazilian organist from the late 50’s, owner of Drink Nightclub and also responsible for the label Discos Drink. I have most of the LPs released by Djalma Ferreira e Os Seus Milionarios do Ritmo and most of them have a cover that opens showing nice drawings from that time, such like this one with the model Manon Godoy, which I’m sure Refer knows everything about.

As I said before, Personnel is unique, bringing Ed Lincoln, probably making a transition from bass to piano and organ, Waltel Branco, playing guitar and bass and Helcio Milito, drummer of the Mighty Tamba Trio. Depois do Drink has only instrumental tracks with several Hammond B3 shady effects that you will enjoy a lot. tracks include:

Djalma Ferreira
(organ, piano, solovox)
Ed Lincoln
(bass, piano)
Waltel Branco
(guitar, bass)
Helcio Milito

Track List

01 – All The Way (S. Cahn / J. Van Heuser)
02 – Drinkando (Djalma Ferreira)
03 – Anema e Core (D’Expósito / Manllo) — Accarezzame (P. Calvi / Nisa)
04 – Longe dos Olhos (Djalma Ferreira / Cristóvão de Alencar)
05 – An Affair To Remember (Our Love Affair) (H. Adenson / L. McCarey / T. Chandler / H. Warren)
06 – Sweet Georgia Brown (Bernie / Pinkart / Casey)
07 – It’s All Right With Me (Cole Porter)
08 – Suas Mãos (Pernambuco / Antônio Maria)
09 – You’ll Never Know (H. Warren / M. Gordon)
10 – My Funny Valentine (R. Rodgers / L. Hart)
11 – Deep In The Heart Of Texas (D. Swander / J. Hershey) — Oh Suzana (Tradicional / Adpt. S. Foster) — My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean (Tradicional / Adpt. W. Rolfe)

Hello, Good Night! I was surprised today when Trix asked for more information about Maestro Jose Briamonte and I found a very early release by him available at Submarino, which is an on-line store in Brazil. The record is Jose Briamonte – New Age Brasil (2004), not listed at Amazon. Great surprise. I thought Briamonte was retired, working outside Brazil or even making closed performances on events, but I never could realize he was recording.

Another awesome surprise is this “never heard about” album from Djalma Ferreira, probably unknown by many, so good that I could not resist to start the day showing it to Loronixers.

This is Djalma Ferreira, Com Orgao e Orquestra – Baile de Formatura (no date), for Discos Drink, featuring the organ of Djalma Ferreira, his orchestra and the always above the average arrangements of Maestro Nelsinho. Baile de Formatura is how we call the graduate balls, which is the album theme. Reading the back cover, I could also learn that Djalma Ferreira is the owner of Discos Drink and probably Drink nightclub. Tracks include:

01 – Lamento
02 – Volta
03 – Samba do Drink
04 – Fala Amor
05 – Nosso Samba
06 – Murmurio
07 – Sambadin
08 – Recado
09 – Cheiro de Saudade
10 – Foi a Saudade
11 – Cansei
12 – Casa da Lolo

Hello, Good Night! Thanks a million for the feedback given to Recordando Carlinhos Guinle, a great release sponsored by Caetano, our pick as yesterday’s closing post. Some additional info, Sylvinha Telles track Voce Nao Sabe Amar was record only for this session and something that I had to highlight and forgot is the participation of the socialite Tereza de Souza Campos, responsible for neck pains on folks when she passed by Copacabana sidewalks at that time.

Let’s start this Monday with the first contribution of our friend Moos from The Netherlands. Moos was in Rio de Janeiro to spend Carnaval and I had a chance to get along with Moos on a day. Moos is a great guy with an immense love to the music from Brazil. He gave to zecalouro a gift, which is something that I was looking for, a pen drive, 1Gb capacity, with several records from his personal collection inside. This is the first Moos pick, taken from the pen drive. Thanks Moos.

This is Djalma Ferreira e os Milionarios do Ritmo – Drink no Rio de Janeiro (1959), for Discos Drink, the kind of record that should please everybody, featuring several artists that got renowned in the 60’s. Drink was a nightclub in Rio de Janeiro and also a record label. Those who never had the chance to see a Drink LP are missing a design work. Drink LPs are beautiful, with several pictures inside and a cover that opens such like a panel. When I get one, I will make some complete photos to share with Loronixers. Drink no Rio de Janeiro crooner is Miltinho. See personnel listing for others. Tracks include:

(taken from back cover)Djalma Ferreira
