Hello, good evening! In the very first beginning of Loronix, Doris Monteiro was a real fever among friends discovering her music for the first time and also friends having the chance of hear her records again. Sombras says Doris Monteiro first record is a 78RPM released by Todamerica in 1951 and she remains in plenty activity, releasing albums and performing live. It is a great pleasure to bring Doris Monteiro back to Loronix first page. Let’s see.

This is Doris Monteiro – Agora (1976), for Odeon, featuring arrangements and conduction by the mighty Maestro Geraldo Vespar, another Brazilian music legend that I had the chance to meet with the help of Loronix. Doris and Maestro Geraldo Vespar are backed by a constellation of Brazilian musicians, including Sivuca, Copinha, Juarez, and many other well-known names that you can check at personnel listing below. This album is of a strange beauty and you cannot skip it. Tracks include:

Hello, good evening! The albums recorded by Doris Monteiro and Miltinho are among the most requested by our community. They are part of a series called Doris, Miltinho e Charme, with the first being released in 1970, until the last and fourth in 1973. I believe these albums are difficult to find, since it is the first from the series I’m proud to have. I never heard about a single album from this series being released on CD, these albums are really challenging, even if you not a regular Samba listener. Let’s see.

This is Doris Monteiro e Miltinho – Doris, Miltinho e Charme, Vol. 3 (1972), for Odeon, featuring arrangements by Maestro Nelsinho, which is always a guarantee of nice trombone playing and arrangements on top of Samba. I think this third volume is the better than the other two we have already at Loronix, it is better produced, recorded with this truly amazing cover artwork. Maestro Lindolpho Gaya is in charge of music direction, such as many Odeon releases from the early 70’s. Tracks include eighteen songs organized at seven medleys. Tracks include:

Doris Monteiro e Lucio Alves no Projeto Pixinguinha (1978)-BACK

It has been a long time since we made an album by Lucio Alves and also by Doris Monteiro, and here we go addressing two issues on a single post, releasing an album with both artists as main performers. I always though this album was a live recording of their participation at Projeto Pixinguinha, however, this is a studio LP, featuring the repertoire of the series of concert made at Projeto Pixinguinha, a Brazilian cultural event that started in 1977 and ended in 1997. During this period, more than three hundred concerts were performed and everything was recorded by Funarte, which is today in the process of transferring everything to digital, almost 5,000 songs. I hope one day these concert recordings be available to public.

This is Doris Monteiro e Lucio – Doris e Lucio no Projeto Pixinguinha (1978), for Odeon. I think I don’t need to say more, Doris Monteiro and Lucio Alves are one of the most requested artists by Loronixers and I’m sure this album should make the day of many friends. Tracks include:

Here we go on the 78-rpm album of the day and the first in the format recorded by the legendary label Todamerica, active from the 50’s until the early 70’s. As far as I know, Todamerica released only in the 78rpm format, even after the popularization of the LPs. Todamerica made these beautiful labels with pictures of the artists, such as this one featuring Doris Monteiro.

This is Doris Monteiro – 78rpm | 5220 (1952), for Todamerica, featuring songs from the Brazilian movie Agulha no Palheiro. Orchestra backs Doris Monteiro. I’m not sure if Doris Monteiro was also an actress on this movie, it is something that really worth checking out. Tracks include:

01 – Agulha no Palheiro (Cesar Cruz / Vargas Junior)
02 – Perdao (Cesar Cruz)

These are very short excerpts, but really worth watching, mainly Booker and Eliana Pittman. Don’t miss Isquericrou YouTube channel, here.

There is a lot of work behind this post. My congratulations to Arara Azul, responsible for everything to make this release available by ripping the vinyl of his personal collection, prepare the cover scan and even searching software to remove unwanted clicks and clacks. Thanks Arara Azul.

Arara Azul gives a great and unique contribution to Loronix, the awaited Doris Monteiro – Vento Soprando (1961), a reissue of Confidencias de Doris Monteiro com Musicas de Fernando Cesar (1956) with four additional tracks that were collected from previous Doris Monteiro 78 rpms releases, Nem Sol, Nem Paz, Nem Você, Quando O Amor Chegar, Sempre Teu and Paraíso Perdido. If you have the earlier Confidencias… take this one also, the tracks of Confidencias… are from a new rip with a much better quality.

We had the chance to know a long time ago at Loronix – actually, less than 3 months – an Elza Soares LP with Miltinho making duet and talking to each other on a very relaxed way.

Miltinho is the kind of singer that likes to keep good companies and between 1970 and 1973; he made four LPs with Doris Monteiro, using the same successful formula: duet, samba, pout-pourri and happiness.

This is the first release, known as Doris, Miltinho e Charme, Volume 1. By the way, there is something about this cover that makes zecalouro feels dizzy… Tracks include:

• Palmas no portão (Walter Dionísio, D’Acri Luz)
• Pergunte ao João (Helena Silva, Milton Costa)
• Tristeza (Haroldo Lobo, Niltinho)

• Esquecendo você (A.C. Jobim)
• Ilusão à-toa (Johnny Alf)
• Fotografia (A.C. Jobim)

06 – Lobo Bobo (Carlos Lyra – Ronaldo Bôscoli)
• Rapaz de bem (Johnny Alf)
• Idéias erradas (Dolores Duran, José Ribamar)
• Confissão (Djalma Ferreira, Luiz Bandeira)
• Madeira de lei (Luiz Bandeira, Renato Araújo)
• Deixa isso pra lá (Alberto Paz, Edson Menezes)

07 – Preciso aprender a ser só (M. Valle – P.S. Valle)
• Duas contas (Garoto)
• Este seu olhar (A.C. Jobim)
• O que eu gosto de você (Sílvio César)
• Você (R. Menescal, R. Bôscoli)

Doris Monteiro – Minhas Musicas (1954)

Publicado em: Saturday, August 26, 2006 by zecalouro

zecalouro presents Doris Monteiro – Minhas Musicas (1954) 10″, consensually, Doris debut LP by Loronixers. It is pretty hard for zecalouro to identify debut LPs for the artists starting in the 50’s. In the 50’s, the recordings were shifting to the LP standard and this is really confusing for a parrot that struggles to gather information.

zecalouro is with this LP for months, but was postponing the release since the only artwork available was with the size of a matchbox with very low quality. Thanks the Loronixer Arara-Azul (Blue Macaw) from Germany for the great effort to make this nice and wonderful digitalization. zecalouro will celebrate his hard work with the magnificent Hyacinth Macawphoto illustrating the AMG bio for Doris Monteiro.

01 – Se você se importasse (Peterpan)
02 – Bate um Sino Alem (Alberto Ribeiro – José Maria de Abreu)
03 – Nunca te Direi (Jair Amorim – José Maria de Abreu)
04 – Perdao (César Cruz)
05 – Desejo (Jorge de Castro – Wilson Batista)
06 – Sou Tao Feliz (Maurício de Lima – Roberto Mário)
07 – Voce Nao Sabe (Frazão – Antônio Almeida)
08 – Quantas Vezes? (Peterpan)

Dóris Monteiro has had over 50 years of a career filled with success, both as a singer and as an actress. One of the earliest singers to interpret the bossa nova, Monteiro has recorded over 20 solo LPs.

At 13 (in 1947), Dóris Monteiro had her debut on radio in the novice show Papel Carbono at the Rádio Nacional. She won the weekly contest for several weeks in a row. In the next year she started to work regularly in the Rádio Tupi. In 1951 she recorded her first album, the 78 rpm Se Você Se Importasse (Peter Pan), which stayed in first place in the charts for threemonths. Embracing the first wave of bossa nova without quitting her main vein, the samba-canção, she had several other big hits: “Agulha no Palheiro,” “Graças a Deus” (Fernando César), “Mocinho Bonito” (Billy Blanco), “Gostoso É Sambar” (João Melo), “Samba de Verão” (Marcos Valle/Paulo Sérgio Valle), “Mudando de Conversa” (Maurício Tapajós/Hermínio Bello de Carvalho), “Dó-Ré-Mi” (Fernando César), “Joga a Rede No Mar” (Fernando César/Nazareno de Brito), “Apelo” (Baden Powell), “Palhaçada,” “É isso Aí,” and “Alô Fevereiro.”

The success also took her to the cinema. She starred in Agulha no Palheiro (Alex Viany) and was elected the Best Actress of 1953. She worked in seven other films, including the Italianproduction Copacabana Palace. In 1955 she had a season in the Cassino de Punta del Este (Uruguay) and, in 1957, performed as a duo with Dorival Caymmi in Lisbon and Coimbra (Portugal). In October 1990 Monteiro performed in Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo (Japan). In that country, she was invited by Lisa Ono to record “Praia Nova” (Lisa Ono/Paulo César Pinheiro), included in Bossa Nova Underground. Doris Monteiro has continued to perform into the next millennium.

I’ve got to admit it’s getting better, a little better all the time, specially if you have the chance to know this rare LP from a very early Doris Monteiro. Released in 1956, all songs are composed by Fernando Cesar. There is a wonderful story behind this composer, actually, Fernando Cesar was a businessman, and he was the owner of a soup factory in Rio de Janeiro, UFE, most known as Sabao Portugues.

And he composed a lot with almost a hundred composition recorded by several artists. Doris Monteiro was his favorite Brazilian singer and had the help of Fernando Cesar on this LP, since all songs are Fernando’s compositions. Tracks includes:

01 – Quando as Folhas Cairem (Maurício de Oliveira – Fernando César)
02 – Vento Soprando (Fernando Cesar)
03 – Gracas a Deus (Fernando Cesar)
04 – Cigarro sem Batom (Fernando Cesar)
05 – O Amor é Isso (Fernando Cesar)
06 – Joga a Rede no Mar (Fernando Cesar – Nazareno de Brito)
07 – Do-Re-Mi (Fernando Cesar)

Another beauty from Doris Monteiro, maybe the top of her releases. Doris is still on her better 60’s mood here, without the later groove she was trying to fit on her vocal performance to enter the coming 70’s. This is a Doris that should appeal to fans of Nara Leao’s early Bossa Nova albums.

What more can I say… Just that is fine music, with the always Doris Monteiro covers that Loronixers are getting used.

Doris Monteiro, just to heal this weird day were Brazilian soccer team has collapsed in Germany. A beautiful work from 1970. She is here on a different style from the 60’s, some kind of transition between Bossa Nova to the modern and swinging style from the 70’s.

Orchestrations are by Carlos Monteiro de Souza. This Doris Monteiro – Doris Monteiro (1970) is a recommendation from a knowledgeable Doris Monteiro friend of Loronix. You can trust.

The last Doris Monteiro made a lot of noise at Loronix and zecalouro is surprised how much she is adored. So, here we go again with Doris Monteiro, 1961 and this *beautiful* cover. Remember that today is the beautiful cover day.

This was one of the first LPs from Doris ever. Doris 61 is a mixture of Bossa and Samba with orchestration by Monteiro de Sousa.

For those who are fanatic for Doris, this is a gem. For everyone, it is a wonderful chance to understand an early work of a Brazilian Diva that has almost 50 years of activity.
