Erlon Chaves - Banda Veneno Internacional (1972)

Hello, good evening! I want to start today with the very successful formula of releasing an important artist with few albums available at Loronix or not released for a long time, such as we did with the great Dez Bilhoes de Neuronios LP by Paulinho Nogueira. It is time to get back our attention again to Erlon Chaves, last released on February 2006, almost a year. Erlon Chaves is a very important maestro, with several solo records and participations as arranger on other artists albums, such as: Elis Regina, Wilson Simonal, Geraldo Vandre, Alaide Costa and many others. Let’s see.

This is Erlon Chaves – Banda Veneno Internacional (1972), for Fontana, Philips subsidiary, featuring not credited musicians performing a repertoire of well-known international tunes, a choir using voice as instruments and lyrics on a few tracks. This is the first out of five albums in the same concept. Maestro Erlon Chaves arrangements to this series are based on funk music with influences of Samba and Rock. The result is a very dancing album with highlights to bass playing and creative arrangements. Tracks include:

01 – I Love You Baby (Vangarde / King) Crying (Bouwens)
02 – The Girl From Paramaribo (Berlipp)
03 – If You Never Say Goodbye (Burt Bacharach / David) Café Regio’s (Hayes)
04 – Pop Concerto Show (Senneville / Toussaint) Summer Holiday (Temple / Clyde)
05 – Viens Avec Nous (Triangle) Floy Joy (Robinson)

Perhaps I’m having a good relationship with Rio de Janeiro, since in the last days we had covers, videos and pictures based on Rio landscapes. Maybe Caetano is missing Rio, this is another of his amazing and never seen before records. Actually, Brasil ’66 is a compilation on side B and part of a given album by the mighty Maestro Erlon Chaves. Let’s check what we have here.

This is Brasil ’66 (1966), for Fermata, featuring Erlon Chaves, Zimbo Trio, Manfredo Fest, Paulinho Nogueira, Ely Arcoverde, Bossa Jazz Trio and Luiz Chaves e seu Conjunto. The whole side A with six songs features Erlon Chaves e Sua Orquestra, while each track of side B is taken by these top-notch instrumental musicians. I think that nothing can go wrong with this album, starting with the cover that alone worth the admission price. Tracks include:

Erlon Chaves e Sua OrquestraGarota de Ipanema
Das Rosas
Acender as Velas
Balanco Zona Sul
Marcha da Quarta Feira de Cinzas
Brazilian Varig

This should fit to all Loronixers preferences to close this Friday, Erlon Chaves and Paul Mauriat. Thanks once again Trix, for supporting this decision with your awesome knowledge of the music from Brazil and also for your patience to understand the crazy criterion that flows inside of the disturbed nut-sized mind of this parrot.

We have to remember that Maestro Paul Mauriat has passed away last year. By that time, Loronixers asked for this record, unfortunately, I could not make it. So, let’s take it as a late tribute to Paul Mauriat Music.

This is Erlon Chaves & Paul Mauriat – As Dez Cancoes Medalha de Ouro (1973), for Philips, featuring orchestra arrangements by Paul Mauriat and Erlon Chaves to 10 top-hit songs of 1973. For those who are looking for Paul Mauriat arrangements, side A (tracks 01 to 05) is the choice. Side B (tracks 06 to 10) belongs to Erlon Chaves. Really nice pick. I’m having a felling of making two posts with a single one. Musicians to each maestro are different, both with his own orchestra. Tracks include:

01 – Casa no Campo (Zé Rodrix / Tavito) – PAUL MAURIAT
02 – Amada Amante (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos) – PAUL MAURIAT
03 – Presepada (Antônio Carlos Marques / Jocafi) – PAUL MAURIAT
04 – Naquela Mesa (Sergio Bittencourt) – PAUL MAURIAT
05 – Viagem (João de Aquino / Paulo César Pinheiro) – PAUL MAURIAT
06 – Dona Chica (Francisca Santos das Flores) (Dorival Caymmi) – ERLON CHAVES
07 – Águas de Março (Tom Jobim) – ERLON CHAVES
08 – Como 2 e 2 (Caetano Veloso) – ERLON CHAVES
09 – Construção (Chico Buarque) – ERLON CHAVES
10 – Testamento (Toquinho / Vinicius de Moraes) – ERLON CHAVES

This is Erlon Chaves & Paul Mauriat – As Dez Cancoes Medalha de Ouro (1973), at Loronix.

I was wondering, if I write down a list with names of friends who have asked for this LP since Loronix started, perhaps we could embrace Maracana. Several reasons were keeping it for later, I never found the LP, no hi-res cover artwork was available, posted first a Quimsy (http://quimsy.blogspot.com), etc. A couple of days ago, Mr. Bapt said that he and several friends of Loronix would be the happiest music fan in the world with this post. That’s the reason I was looking for.

This is Erlon Chaves e Orquestra Saint Moritz – Procura-se uma Virgem – OST (1971), for CID, supposed to be one of the most sought after Erlon Chaves LP. This OST was recorded to a Brazilian movie, Procura-se uma Virgem and features only Erlon Chaves compositions performed by Orquestra Saint Moritz. I’m very curious to see what should happen with this very requested release. Tracks include:

01 – Procura-se Uma Virgem (Erlon Chaves) – Prefixo – Tema Abertura
02 – Procura-se Uma Virgem (Erlon Chaves / Duo Cantante) Versão Valsa
03 – Grilo (Erlon Chaves)
04 – Os 3 Ladrões (Erlon Chaves)
05 – Uma Velha Bossa (Erlon Chaves)
06 – Vamos Nós (Erlon Chaves)
07 – O Anjo e o Diabo (Erlon Chaves)
08 – Tema de Amor (Erlon Chaves)
09 – Ba-oba-oba (Erlon Chaves / Arnoldo Medeiros)
10 – Procura-se Uma Virgem (Erlon Chaves) Versão Sufixo

Erlon Chaves e a Sua Banda Veneno Internacional – Banda Veneno Internacional (1973)

zecalouro was neutral with Sergio Mendes but got completely nuts with this one. zecalouro makes some sort of quality control on Loronix releases. He is a big fan of the old Brazilian singers, their vibratos and strong voices. Trombone albums are also his favorites and he gets really crazy with voices being used as instruments, he tries to makes the same at a first hearing.

This is Erlon Chaves e Sua Banda Veneno – Banda Veneno Internacional (1973), for Fontana, with the track All My Loving for You not allowed to be played for zecalouro, until further notice. This first track is amazing; this song was part of my childhood. The choir singing like a trombone is really great and the melody is easy to memorize. You will get yourself repeating it several times daily like a mantra. Don’t blame it on zecalouro, you are now warned. Tracks include:

01 – All My Love Is For You (N. Keys)
02 – Tears In My Eyes (Hensley)
03 – Listen To The Music (T. Johnston) — Woman (F. Arbex)
04 – I’d Love You To Wat Me (Lobo) — Philosopher (Papini / Schartz)
05 – Superman (A. Vitalis / Haubrich) — I’m On Fire (Findon / Anthony)
06 – You Are The Sunshine Of My Life (Stevie Wonder) — Where Is The Love (R. MacDonald / W. Salter)
07 – Carly & Carole (Eumir Deodato)
08 – Why Can’t We Live Together (T. Thomas) — Clair (G. O’Sullivan)
09 – Listen (P. Bryan) — When I’m a Kid (S. Vlavianos / C. Chalkitis / B. Bergman)
10 – Don’t Say Goodbye (P. Bryan / J. Saloman / Chrystian) — Don’t Turn Around (P. Adams)

.

Caetano Rodrigues will be surprised with this post, he gave me the vinyl original issue of this LP together with the last set of contributions to Loronixers, but I think Caetano would not realize that I would like that a lot to make it available to Loronixers. Thanks again Caetano, this record is unique and I did my best to make this cover scan and convert the vinyl to digital files. I hope I could make it accordingly.

This is Erlon Chaves e Sua Orquestra – Em Tempo de Samba (1961), for RCA Victor, according with my researches, the debut LP of the great Maestro Erlon Chaves, one of Loronix favorites. This record is among one of the few releases that blends an Orchestra performance with the Samba rhythms efficiently, creating something that our Orchestra specialist Zarville calls as “Samba Orchestra”. Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s my feeling about this LP. Nice arrangements by an early Erlon Chaves, great since his early years. Tracks include:

01 – É Fácil Dizer Adeus (Tito Madi)
02 – O Menino Desce o Morro (De Rosa / Vera Brasil)
03 – Água de Beber (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
04 – O Nosso Olhar (Sergio Ricardo)
05 – Tema Oriental (Erlon Chaves)
06 – Murmúrio (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio)
07 – Dindi (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira)
08 – Só Vou de Mulher (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
09 – Descendo o Morro (Billy Blanco / Tom Jobim)
10 – Duas Contas (Garoto)
11 – Barquinho (Ronaldo Bôscoli / Roberto Menescal)
12 – A Fuga do Samba (Erlon Chaves)

.
