Caetano Veloso & Fagner - Disco De Bolso

I think that everybody remember when Loronix released a single with Antonio Carlos Jobim performing a very, let’s say, primitive Aguas de Marco. That album was the first release of a new magazine called Disco de Bolso, featuring a single with a well-now artist and a new artist on side B. The concept was excellent, but for reasons that I could not check, the magazine did not survive to the second edition, which is exactly what we have here, kindly sent by my Mother. Let’s see.

This is Disco de Bolso do Pasquim Numero 2 – Caetano Veloso e Fagner (1972), for Zen, featuring on side A Caetano Veloso, performing A Volta da Asa Branca, recorded live at Teatro Joao Caetano, Rio de Janeiro. Side B brings the new artist, Fagner, performing Mucuripe (Belchior / Fagner). Caetano Veloso does not have a support group, only his violao, while Fagner plays violao and is backed by Ivan Lins, playing organ. It is sad to know this magazine had such a short life. Both new artists (remember the first had Joao Bosco on side B) are now respected artists in Brazil. Tracks include:

01 – A Volta da Asa Branca (Luiz Gonzaga) with Caetano Veloso
02 – Mucuripe (Fagner / Belchior) with Fagner

Raimundo Fagner - Oros (1977)

Hello, good evening! I hope everybody had an excellent weekend, such as mine; full of new discoveries in terms of work and solid listens. Anyway, going straight to the point, we have here another great album recorded by Raimundo Fagner at Loronix. I have to admit that I never had the change to listen to this album as a whole, I knew only a few songs and I’m really impressed. Let’s see.

This is Raimundo Fagner – Oros (1977), for Columbia, featuring Fagner, Hermeto Pascoal and a constellation of Brazilian musicians, including: Robertinho de Recife, Itibere, Nivaldo Ornellas, Marcio Montarroyos, Chico Batera, J.T. Meirelles, Mauro Senise, Dominguinhos, among many others. The repertoire brings Raimundo Fagner compositions with Fausto Nilo, Robertinho of Recife, Belchior and a song by Hermeto Pascoal, 08 – Fofoca. It was very difficult to choose the track available at Loronix Preview Center, I took the popular, 06 – Cebola Cortada. Tracks include:

Raimundo Fagner - Raimundo Fagner (1976)

It’s amazing how the result of our Carnaval poll varies. Bafo da Onca and Jamelao were swapping the first place across the day. Anyway, let’s talk about this artist and especially about this album. I use to hide my preferences when writing texts to Loronix, I cannot influence your choices, but sometimes it is impossible to resist on making a passionate review. I did not realize I had this album after 30 years, but my mother found it this week and said I would make at Loronix as soon as possible, and that is what I’m doing right now. Let’s see.

This is Raimundo Fagner – Raimundo Fagner (1976), for Columbia, the third Fagner career LP and perhaps his best album released in the 70’s, featuring Robertinho de Recife delivering a great guitar player, Wagner Tiso, Luiz Alves, Robertinho Silva, Chico Batera, among others. We have here a beauty of an album full of beautiful melodies and great acoustic arrangements. My highlight goes to 03 – Asa Partida, which is the track available at Loronix Preview Center. Tracks include:

Fagner - Quem Viver Chorara (1978)

This is at least an unusual release to Loronix, but I think this album is really worth checking out. There are much of my personal preferences on my decision to make available this really nice record that as far as I could check, never had a CD reissue. Raimundo Fagner, or Fagner, was very important on my background as an amateur musician and if you woke up this morning with an inquisitive mind, this is the right pick to get something really different from everything you have heard before at Loronix. Let’s see.

This is Fagner – Quem Viver Chorara (1978), for Columbia, produced and arranged by Fagner. I wrote, “arranged by Fagner” and this is what makes this album a wonderful experience. Quem Viver Chorara is the kind of album that you can listen by the arrangements, very well done by Fagner. On every different spin you make there is new think that you did not realize it was there before. The album opens with Revelacao, a blockbuster that everybody in Brazil will remember at the fist seconds by the amazing guitar of Robertinho de Recife, don’t let this first commercial track cheats you, from the second song until the end, everything turns beautiful, professional and very well played by a constellation of musicians in this session. I urge Loronixers to feedback this release. Tracks include:

Personnel

Fagner
(voice, organ, piano, violao, percussion, arrangements)
Chico Batera
(drums, percussion)
Ife, Ozias
(bass)
Manasses
(viola, cavaquinho)
Robertinho de Recife
(guitar)
Dino 7 Cordas
(violao 7 cordas)
Pedro Soler
(guitarra flamenca)
Armandinho
(bandolim)

Track List

01 – Revelação (Clodô / Clésio)
02 – Jura Secreta (Sueli Costa / Abel Silva)
03 – Acalanto Para Um Punhal (Robertinho de Recife / Herman Torres / Fausto Nilo)
04 – Punhal de Prata (Alceu Valença) with Alceu Valença
05 – As Rosas Não Falam (Cartola)
06 – Quem me Levara Sou Eu (Dominguinhos / Manduca)
07 – Pelo Vinho e Pelo Pão (Zé Ramalho)
08 – Cigano (Fagner)
09 – Quem Viver Chorará (Fagner) Instrumental

.

Existem duas versões desse disco: “Eu canto” (versão original, com a música “Motivo”, posteriormente proibida) e “Quem viver chorará” (que substituiu a música por “Quem me levará sou eu”). Ambas podem ser buscadas no 300 Discos.

Fagner – Manera Fru-Fru, Manera (1973)

Publicado em: Friday, November 24, 2006 by zecalouro

Hello, good night! This post has been planned for more than a few weeks. It is not the kind of record that you use to see at Loronix, but has a special meaning to zecalouro and I could not resist sharing.

There are several important “personal” facts surrounding this record. It was the first one that I could buy using my own money. I knew it by surprise while stepping out of a bus on a given hot week, capturing my attention at a first sight. It was also very useful to help myself on first steps toward guitar playing. It has been more than 30 years since my first hearing and this is one of the most soulful, sincere, captivating and emotional singing interpretation I could ever see in my life.

This is Fagner – Manera Fru-Fru, Manera (1973), for Philips, the first LP of this underrated Brazilian artist. There are several curious stories about this LP and I will pick up just one. As soon as the record was released, Cecilia Meirelles relatives went to court to complain about the partnership of Fagner with Cecilia Meirelles song, Canteiros, as far as I known, one of the most popular Fagner tunes of all time. The LP was reissued at the same year with another track “Cavalo Ferro”, replacing Canteiros. This release is the original issue.

I hope that you will take this release with special attention since zecalouro does not use to express his feelings about an LP on such particular way. Please give us your feedback. Perhaps I’m moved with the records we received today by Caetano Rodrigues. |smile|

For the fans of Nara Leao, a special gift, she is singing with Fagner on two wonderful tracks making a nice duet with Fagner’s harsh voice. Tracks include. Sorry, last minute info: you will note that track 3 has the name Penas do Tie, Philips mistake, this song is called “Voce” and was composed in 1928 by Hekel Tavares / Nair Mesquita.

01 – Último Pau-de-arara (Venâncio / Corumba / José Guimarães)
02 – Nasci Para Chorar (Born To Cry) (Dion / Dimucci / Vrs. Erasmo Carlos)
03 – Você (Hekel Tavares / Nair Mesquita / Adpt. Fagner) with Nara Leao
04 – Moto 1 (Fagner / Belchior)
05 – Mucuripe (Fagner / Belchior)
06 – Como Se Fosse (Fagner / Capinan)
07 – Pé de Sonhos (Petrúcio Maia / Brandão) with Nara Leao
08 – Canteiros (Fagner / Cecília Meireles)
09 – Sina (Fagner / Ricardo Bezerra)
10 – Tambores (Jovem Também Tem Saudade) (Fagner / Ronaldo Bastos)
11 – Serenou na Madrugada (Tradicional / Adpt. Fagner)
12 – Manera Fru Fru Manera (Fagner / Ricardo Bezerra)
