IVFestivalInternacional

Hello, good afternoon! I want to take advantage of an available time to fill this sunny Friday afternoon with music provided by my mother. The only issue of a post made on such extraordinary time of the day is the lack of research. Little I know about this IV Festival Internacional da Cancao, except the nice performers we have inside and the nice tunes they perform. I don’t have idea if there is a whole Odeon series with all these Festival Internacional da Cancao concerts and if there are also albums featuring the international performers, not only the Brazilian artists. Let’s see.

This is IV Festival Internacional da Cancao (1969), for Odeon, featuring Brazilian performers, including two Samba divas performing Bossa Nova in their earlier years, Clara Nunes and Beth Carvalho, and important artists, such like Marcos Valle, Antonio Adolfo & A Brazuca, Taiguara, Eva, Goden Boys and the nice vocal group Quarteto Forma.

If you want to know more about the music of Festival da Cancao years, you cannot miss the website of my friend Marcia Weber, now featuring the whole story about the song Juliana, performed by Antonio Adolfo & A Brazuca. V Festival Internacional da Canção Popular

I have been wondering why Loronix does not have a representative number of recordings from the legendaries Festivais da Cancao, a fever in Brazilian music by the end of the 60’s decade. I have some assumptions, in spite of its importance, perhaps they are not popular among our community or I failed on making the choices in the few albums already available. Perhaps the root cause is my total ignorance about the period, anyway, I’m trying to fix this approach with a new album, which seems quite appropriate considering the performers and repertoire. Let’s see.

This is V Festival Internacional da Cancao Vol. 2 (1970), for Odeon. First of all, as an international festival, why this album does not feature international performers? Additionally, why the albums in the style do not bring information about the winners and prizes? Better show this one and open the discussion. Do not miss the music videos featuring Geraldo Vandre performing with Trio Maraya and Quarteto Novo on some Festival da Cancao edition. It is very curious to see a very young Hermeto Pascoal and all Quarteto Novo members. Loronix Preview Center features 07 – Feira Moderna, performed by Som Imaginario. Tracks include:

The Performers

Wilson Simonal
Silvio Cesar
Antonio Adolfo e a Brazuca
Beth Carvalho e As Gatas
Golden Boys
Ellen de Lima
Som Imaginario
Guilherme Lamounier

Track List

01 – Hino do Festival Internacional (Miguel Gustavo) with Wilson Simonal
02 – Quem Tem Tempo Pra Ser Meu Amigo (Alberto Land) with Silvio César
03 – Quebra-cabeça (Paulinho Soares / Marcello Silva) with Antônio Adolfo e A Brazuca
04 – A Velha Porta (Beth Carvalho) with Beth Carvalho e As Gatas
05 – Hipnose (Antônio Carlos Marques / Jocafi) with Golden Boys
06 – Sonho de Carochinha (Codó / Heloísa Serra) with Ellen de Lima

I could not avoid a big smile when I found this album available at a vinyl shop for a unbelievable price last week. It’s a ritual to phone call Caetano Rodrigues to report these amazing findings. Caetano almost faint when I tell him a find such like this one, one of the 100 essential albums on Luiz Americo website and a really solid record. Caetano Rodrigues sent it to us in the beginning of this year, but I think it is necessary to provide it again to Loronixers. I can tell you with no hesitation that we have great music here. Let’s see.

This is I Bienal do Samba (1968), for Philips, featuring awarded tunes from I Bienal do Samba, a music contest, such as the old festivals from the 60’s, featuring renowned Brazilian artists. Here we go on an album that does not need to be introduced. However, before skipping my writing to scroll personnel listing, be sure that all credits for this post goes to Mauro R.V., the luck owner of this vinyl that kindly sent it to our community this morning. Here we have an album that everybody was tracking down for years, including Caetano Rodrigues and several other serious collectors. Let’s see.

This cover and post title is self-explanatory and I think nobody will ready these lines. It is not necessary to clean your glasses or schedule a visit to your doctor, what you see is exactly what you get, and I will be very straightforward to do not waste your time.

This is A Noite do Amor, do Sorriso e da Flor – Faculdade de Arquitetura (1960), the anthological event produced by Ronaldo Boscoli, considered the first Bossa Nova Festival, featuring renowned Brazilian artists on a very early stage of their career supported by Roberto Menescal (guitar), Luiz Carlos Vinhas (piano), Luiz Paulo (bass), Helcio Milito (drums) and Bebeto (sax).

The track list has some failures and I hope our community helps to realize the exact figures in terms of songs names and performers. The sound quality is not perfect, but if you take in from an historical perspective, every second of this event worth the hearing. I would like to thanks all the friends involved on this post, a very important accomplishment to our community. Tracks include:

Hello, Good Evening! I want to start today showing an album requested a long time ago by a friend, a compilation with the finalist of a very popular songwriting contest sponsored by a Brazilian TV in 1963, known as Um Milhao por Uma Cancao, which I’m free translating as “One Million for a Song”. The organization of this contest received 5,000 songs, with 86 selected on a shortlist and then submitted to popular evaluation. This album features the 12 finalists. Let’s see.

This is Um Milhao por Uma Cancao (1963), for Philips, featuring the 12 finalists of Um Milhao por Uma Cancao songwriting contest. It is amazing that my searches did not result on the winner song and the respective order. The songs were performed by renowned artists of the early 60’s and the 12 tunes are how can I say, excessive romantic songs, you know what I mean.

Several Brazilian arrangers gave their collaboration to the finalists songs, such as: Pachequinho, Nelsinho, Ted Moreno, Guarana, Carlos Monteiro de Souza, Moacir Santos, Astor Silva, Lindolfo Gaya, Oswaldo Borba, Darcy Barbosa and Hugo Marrota with the finalists backed by orchestra in charge of Maestro Oswaldo Borba. Tracks Include:

The Performers

Hebe Camargo
Helena de Lima
Elza Laranjeira
Dalva de Oliveira
The Golden Boys
Cauby Peixoto
Agnaldo Rayol
Eleonora Diva
Francisco Jose

Track List

01 – Uma Canção Por Um Milhão (Luis Antônio) – Helena de Lima
02 – Longe de Você (Ary Barroso / Luis Peixoto) – Cauby Peixoto
03 – Se Todo o Amor do Mundo (Álvaro Santos) – Elza Laranjeira
04 – Mais Que Todo o Amor (Fernando César / Leal Brito) – Golden Boys
05 – Pequeno Sol (Sergio Napp) – Hebe Camargo
06 – Tudo Que Sonhei (Ribamar / Toni Vestane) – Helena de Lima
07 – Meu Bem (Glauco Pereira / Fernando Pereira) – Agnaldo Rayol

Yesterday, our Loronix friend Irinea Maria wrote me with a special mission, to find one of those Festivais da Cancao albums with a composition by her own performed by Claudette Soares. I thought it was one of those missions impossible to accomplish, since I have less than a few albums on the style, but Irinea was lucky, among these few I had the one she was looking for. Irinea got the second prize at this Festival while the song Helena, Helena, Helena, performed by Lucio Alves was the winner.

This is I Festival Universitario de Musica Popular Brasileira (1968), for Philips, featuring Claudette Soares, Jair Rodrigues, Quarteto Novo, Elis Regina, Lucio Alves and others. The last release in the style had a really bad ripping, but this one was made by Loronix engineers, under zecalouro supervision, no surprises this time. Tracks include:
