Simonetti - Panorama Musical

Hello, good evening! I got amazed when I found this album for an unbelievable price last weekend. It was filed on those generic shelves of “everything for R$ 1”, which is something strange. This is an important album, it is the first album recorded by one of the most influential record companies in Brazil, RGE. Let’s see.

This is Henrique Simonetti – Panorama Musical (1956), for RGE, the first album released by RGE, featuring Maestro Simonetti arrangements for six Brazilian tunes. Just in case you missed, Maestro Simonetti is an Italian musician that came to Brazil in 1941 and became an influential artist until his departure back to his homeland in the mid 1960’s. RGE kindly delivers personnel listing with some surprises, including Maestros Waldomiro Lemke and Silvio Tancredi on bass and piano and a surprising participation of Zito Righi at clarinet, credited as Leonardo Righi, which is his real name. Tracks include:

Enrico Simonetti
(arrangements, direction)

Clemente Capella, Osvaldo Sbarro, Loris Pinheiro, Hugo di Franco, Roin Peller, Antonio Gianelli, Samuel Gegna, Alfredo Vidal, Dante Migliori, Gino Alfonsi

Hello, good evening! It is really, really nice to share another album recorded by Maestro Simonetti. It is also really amazing to know that this one never had a previous release at Loronix. I think Simonetti has many fans among Loronix’s community, such like Caetano Rodrigues, another Simonetti enthusiast that should be really pleased to see this one. By the way, this cover is simple, but is very beautiful and very efficient to sell this kind of album. Let’s see.

This is Simonetti e Sua Orquestra – Dance com Simonetti (1961), for RGE, featuring renditions a Brazilian and international repertoire in the “Para Dancar” style. Simonetti was born in Italy, came to Brazil in 1949, staying until the mid 1960’s, when he decided to come back to his homeland in Italy. Simonetti was very famous in Brazil, recording several albums, writing arrangements to renowned Brazilian artists, such like: Maysa, Agostinho dos Santos, Elza Laranjeira, Dick Farney, Leny Eversong, and many others. He was an active songwriter to Vera Cruz, a famous Brazilian movie studio and also a host of shows in Brazilian TV. My knowledge on Simonetti activities in Italy is very limited, feel free to send comments if you have additional information. Tracks include:

01 – O Homem do Braço de Ouro (Delilah Jones) (S. Fyne / E. Bernstein)
02 – Chá-chá-chá Egypcio (Claude)
03 – Blue Mon (L. Hart / R. Rodgers)
04 – Babá de Mulher (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
05 – Bombay (Welk / Cates)
06 – Brasil 61 (Claude)
07 – The Exodus Song (Gold / P. Boone)
08 – C’est Magnifique (Cole Porter)
09 – La Habanera (Da Ópera ”Carmen”) (Bizet)
10 – Tonight My Love Tonight (Paul Anka)
11 – The Continental (Magidson / Genrad)
12 – Sheherazade (Rimsky / Korsakoff)

Não tinha esse disco. Porém, graças aos amigos Amilcar e Milan, ele pode ser buscado no Parallel Realities.

Agostinho Dos Santos - Agostinho Dos Santos Com Orquestra Simonetti

Agostinho Dos Santos - Agostinho Dos Santos Com Orquestra Simonetti_2

Hello, good evening! I think tomorrow night we can rely again with the server that run the external Loronix applications. The temporary server is doing a great job and nobody is having a bad experience as I thought we would have. Unfortunately, all videos already available are down since Tuesday. In the other hand, this outage is really bad from my perspective; I would like very much to afford a dedicated hosting instead of sharing the same space with others.

Anyway, this is a boring subject and we are here to talk about MUSIC, which is the great fun of Loronix. I want to start today with the debut LP of a gifted singer, which could have build a fantastic career if he had not left us so early, I speak of Agostinho dos Santos. Let’s see.

This is Agostinho dos Santos – Agostinho dos Santos (1956), for Polydor, featuring arrangements and conduction by Maestro Simonetti. This is a very old album with Agostinho dos Santos performing a repertoire of Brazilian tunes and Brazilian versions of American songs. It is a very curious 10-inch with lush orchestrations by Maestro Simonetti. The back cover features lots of information about Agostinho dos Santos on a very nice text written by a not credited author. Tracks include:

01 – Falam Meus Olhos (Fernando Cesar / Nazareno de Brito)
02 – O Vendedor de Laranjas (Betinho / Heitor Carilo)
03 – A Ultima Vez que Vi Paris – The Last Time I Saw Paris (Jerome Kern / Haroldo Barbosa)
04 – Nao Digo (Sebastiao Gilberto / Antonio Bruno)
05 – Meu Benzinho – My Little One (Howe / Gussin / Cauby de Brito)
06 – Pif Paf (Portinho / Falcao)
07 – E Tao Gostoso Amar – Open the Window of Your Heart (Hoffmann / Manning / Edson Borges)
08 – Cancao do Mar (Frederico Brito / Ferrer Trindade)

Este disco pode ser buscado no Arquivos do Vinil ao CD. Em todos os locais que pesquisei a indicação é a de que o ano do disco seria 1958 e não 1956, como indicado pelo Zeca. Fica a dúvida.

Simonetti e Orquestra RGE – E Disco… Que Eu Gosto Nr. 2 (1959)

I was thinking about releasing this album when the Formula One race driver Kimi Raikkonen got the season championship for Ferrari two weeks ago, but I forgot by that time. There were two reasons, Maestro Simonetti is Italian and Ferrari is an Italian racing team and Simonetti wears red while Ferrari has a red color. Perhaps I’m going nuts with these crazy associations. Anyway, several friends were asking for another Simonetti album and I’m glad to show this one, the second out of a series of two “E Disco que Eu Gosto” LPs for RGE. Let’s see.

This is Simonetti e Orquestra RGE – E Disco… Que Eu Gosto Nr. 2 (1959), for RGE, once again, an above the average orchestra album delivered by RGE and a nice cover showing Simonetti creative process, really funny. Everybody says that cover artwork from the past is much better than today and I totally agree, especially when they make it with a picture of the main performer. E Disco… Que Eu Gosto Nr. 2 brings a repertoire blending Brazilian and international songs with very creative arrangements by Simonetti. Tracks include:

01 – Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso)
02 – Piove (Domenico Modugno / Verde)
03 – All The Way (S. Cahn / J. Van Heusen)
04 – Smoke Gets In Your Eyes (J. Kern / O. Harbach)
05 – Swedish Rhapsody (C. Wildman)
06 – Cai Cai (Roberto Martins)
07 – Madureira Chorou (Carvalhinho / Julio Monteiro)
08 – I’ve Got You Under My Skin (Cole Porter)
09 – Danse Avec Moi (F. Lopes / A. Hornez)
10 – Carioca (V. Youmans)
11 – At The End (Of a Rainbow) (J. Krondes / S. Jacobson)
12 – En El Mar (O. Farres)

Simonetti e Seu Conjunto – Accarezzame (1958)

Hello, Good Evening! It has been a while since we do not make one of those Para Dancar (For Dancing) albums, a very popular style in the 50’s and early 60’s. Think about the world in the 50’s, no TVs available, the radio delivering orchestral and instrumental music and everybody waiting for the weekend to party at ballrooms. People use to buy these records to stay tuned with the music of the ballrooms and even dancing on private parties at home with Para Dancar albums.

The style was so important that even a mighty Maestro such like Henrique Simonetti made his rendition to it. Simonetti is Italian and the repertoire features only Italian songs. This is my pick to start this Sunday.

This is Simonetti e Seu Conjunto – Accarezzame (1958), for RGE, the first Simonetti release at Loronix with no orchestra, just backed by Conjunto RGE. The Italian songs selected by Simonetti are very beautiful and also very hard to write down (this is a joke). Conjunto RGE delivers nice renditions to each song on top of Simonetti arrangements. Musicians are not credited and a very well played accordion gives that Italian atmosphere. Tracks include:

01 – Accarezzame (P. Calvi / Nisa)
02 – Malatia (Armando Romeo)
03 – Chella’ Llá (S. Taccani / U. Bertini)
04 – Che ‘me ‘mparato a Fa’ (A. Trovajoli / G. Verdi)
05 – Arrivederci Roma (R. Rascel / Garinei / Giovanini)
06 – ‘na Voce ‘na Chitarra e ‘o Poco ‘e Luna (C. A. Rossi / U. Calise)
07 – Vogliamoci Tanto Bene (R. Rascel)
08 – Anema e Core (Manlio)
09 – Musetto (P. Saka / Domenico Modugno)
10 – Malafemmena (De Curtis)
11 – Guaglione (G. Fanciulli / Nisa)
12 – Picolissima Serenata (Ferrio / Amurri)

Everybody knows that one of the best Brazilian music blogs, Unbreakable Microgrooves, has gone on a big hiatus. I spoke with Simon Boutman, which is the owner and maintainer of Microgrooves and we agree to make posts at Loronix of some albums that are not available there. I think this is an excellent idea and we will start with a recommendation from Simon Boutman, by the way, a really nice recommendation.

This is Dick Farney – Dick Farney Show (1961), for RGE. You will always find links to the original Microgrooves post, here. Dick Farney Show is his first LP from RGE, released just before Dick Farney made his move to Sao Paulo in the early 60’s. The legendary Maestro Enrico Simonetti arranges Dick Farney Show. Self-explanatory, what else can go wrong when you have Dick Farney and Maestro Simonetti together? Thanks Simon for open this new channel between our websites and communities. Tracks include:

01 – Somos Dois (Armando Cavalcanti – Klécius Caldas)
02 – Uma Loire (Hervé Cordovil)
03 – Este Seu Olhar (Antonio Carlos Jobim)
04 – Perdido de Amor (Luiz Bonfá)
05 – Sem Esse Céu (Luiz Bonfá)
06 – A Fonte e o teu Nome (Luiz Bonfá)
07 – The Lady is a Tramp (Lorenz Hart – Richard Rodgers)
08 – It’s All Right with Me (Cole Porter)
09 – The Song is You (Gerome Kern – Harmmerstein II)
10 – I Concentrate on You (Cole Porter)
11 – Just One of Those Things (Cole Porter)
12 – Speak Low (Kurt Weill – Ogden Nash)

Hello, Good Evening! I could hear today Forma e Elenco, which is a Bossa Nova radio show produced and presented by a Loronixer, Leo RJ. Today’s show was about the legendary Sinatra-Farney Fan Club and Leo RJ urge his audience to reach Loronix to see the Sinatra-Farney Fan Club green wallet made available on our last Dick Farney post. Very nice show and I will manage with Leo how to make it available to Loronixers as a Podcast or so. Let’s make a great and fast start today with one of the artists that I like most.

This is Maestro Simonetti & Orquestra RGE – Samba 707 (1960), for RGE. Such like the last and successful Brasil a Jato, which was a tribute to Varig airlines and the acquisition of their first Caravelle airplanes, Samba 707 has also Varig affairs and celebrates the acquisition of the first Boeing 707 airplanes. This record has more than 40 years and airplanes design did not change much since then. I’m busy today and this is a self-explanatory release. Tracks include:

01 – Se Acaso Você Chegasse (Lupicínio Rodrigues / Felisberto Martins)
02 – Implorar (Germano Augusto / Kid Pepe / Gaspar)
03 – Agora É Cinza (Alcebíades Barcelos “Bide” / Armando “Marçal”)
04 – General da Banda (Sátiro de Melo / José Alcides / Tancredo Silva)
05 – Tem Pena de Mim (Hervé Cordovil)
06 – Morena Boca de Ouro (Ary Barroso)
07 – Império do Samba (Zé da Zilda / Zilda do Zé)
08 – A Lapa (Benedito Lacerda / Herivelto Martins)
09 – Foi Ela (Ary Barroso)
10 – Boeing (Claude)
11 – Helena Helena (Antônio Almeida / Constantino Silva “Secundino”)
12 – Botões de Laranjeira (Pedro Caetano)

Não tinha esse disco. Porém, graças aos amigos Eliane e Milan, ele hoje está disponível no Parallel Realities Studio.

Maestro Simonetti e Orquestra RGE – Brasil a Jato (1959) was one of the most successful posts at Loronix. That post was also very important as one of the first orchestra LPs made available here. That LP attracted several new Loronixers and most of them are here with us until today. I found this one on that amazing bargains and I think it is as good as Brazil a Jato. Same idea, a repertoire celebrating Brazil and specifically the city of Brasilia, the brand new Brazilian Capital at that time.

This is Maestro Simonetti e Orquestra RGE – Brasil Musical (1960), for RGE. Actually, this is a further reissue, which I do not have any info on its date. By the way, this one is ripped with my brand new equipment. Gimme some feedback, especially this one. I bought it on a very bad condition and perhaps this is the ultimate zecalouro test on LPs restorations. Tracks include:

01 – Brasilia, Capital da Esperanca
02 – Rio de Janeiro
03 – Maringá
04 – Tico-tico no Fuba
05 – Madureira Chorou
06 – Vassourinha
07 – Na Baixa do Sapateiro
08 – Delicado
09 – Samba de Uma Nota So
10 – Favela
11 – Meditacao
12 – Saudades da Bahia

Maestro Simonetti e Orquestra RGE – Viagem Musical pelo Brasil (1959)

zecalouro received a few days ago from a mystery Loronixer a better vinyl rip and high-quality artworks of one of the best posts so far, Maestro Enrico Simonetti e Orquestra RGE – Brazil a Jato (1959).

If you miss the original, take it. If you love the original, please upgrade. The new artwork can be downloaded here.

I’m grabbing the original post and previous Loronixers comments.

Original Post:

This LP was released by RGE to celebrate Brazilian commercial aviation, something very common at the 50’s, since there are some old LPs celebrating businesses. zecalouro, for instance, has an LP with “flight-listening” songs, sponsored by Cruzeiro airlines.

On this one, Maestro Enrico Simonetti e Orquestra RGE are in charge of all the tracks. This is the first LP out of a series of zecalouro releases to introduce Loronixers the Brazilian orchestras from the 50’s. This one was on queued by zecalouro due a low-res artwork, but he made a nice work on a tiny thumbnail with imaging processing software to make things better. The cover shows a Caravelle from Varig Airlines.

Loronixers Comments:

This record is from 1959, as you can see on the article below, published in the Brazilian newspaper O Dia, at 19-11-1959:

“Homenageando a aviação comercial brasileira, a RGE lançou um long-play com o famoso maestro Enrico Simonetti e Orquestra RGE. O disco, cujo título é “Brasil a Jato”, apresenta um desfile de músicas brasileiras bastante conhecidas de norte a sul.

Este disco pode ser buscado no Um que Tenha. A outra versão da capa (Brasil a Jato) está abaixo:
