Jards Macalé - Aprender a Nadar

I had lunch today in a place that always brings very good memories from my early days. It is a restaurant, better a small shop inside a mall at Largo do Machado in Rio de Janeiro. I could remember what happened when I was there for the last time; I had the chance to talk several minutes with an artist that we use to call as a “multimedia” artist here in Brazil, Wally Solomão, poet, composer, writer and music producer, among several other things. I arrived home decided to make this album available to our community, perfect timing for another great contribution from the mighty AdHoc, and perhaps the best album recorded by Jards Macale, which includes several Wally Salomão compositions, credited here as Wally Sailormoon. Thanks Adhoc. Let’s see.

This is Jards Macale – Aprender a Nadar (1974), for Philips, produced by Jards Macale and Wally Sailormoon and arranged by Jards Macale. Aprender a Nadar comes with superb AdHoc quality standards, featuring perfect transfer, high quality cover scans, personnel and complimentary information on track listing. This is the 1994 CD reissue by Rock Company Records (RCCD 05)

In the original LP, “Estatutos da Gafieira” (track 07) was embedded in the end of “Dona do Castelo” (track 06) and “Dois Corações” (track 13) in the end of “Boneca Semiótica” (track 12). The two embedded songs were not mentioned on the track list. “Mora na Filosofia” (played in track 9 as an instrumental in the introduction and between the verses of “E Daí?”) was not credited on the track list either. In the 1994 CD reissue, credit was given to the three songs on the CD label, but not in the booklet (elsewhere in this pack).

Hello, Good Evening! (thanks Jeff!) By tradition, Saturday is a day of rule breaking at Loronix, a day of experiences, releasing artists that we never saw before on our community. This one has a nice story behind it; last week, a new mysterious contributor sent a record with a short message “Tell them Mr. Bigú sent it.” However, the files sent by Mr. Bigu were pretty scratch and our engineers could do nothing. Mr. Bigu did not left his email, so I decided to post this record, which is from the same artist of Mr. Bigu contribution. I think Loronixers will enjoy it a lot. Thanks Mr. Bigu, your effort was not useless.

This is Jards Macale – Let’s Play That (1994), for Rock Company, featuring the special guest Nana Vasconcelos. This album was recorded in 1983 as a live session performed on studio and was not released until 1994. It is a quite experimental record with Jards Macale playing violao and singing, Nana Vasconcelos and Roberto Guima (clarinet). Mr. Bigu, I think we have a good alternative to your original effort. Tracks include:

01 – Let’s Play That (Jards Macalé / Torquato Neto)
02 – Pano Pra Manga (Jards Macalé / Xico Chaves)
03 – Mulheres no Retrato (Jards Macalé / Fausto Nilo)
04 – Luz (Ezra Pound)
05 – Lua Luar (Jards Macalé)
06 – Língua de Mosquito (Adpt. Jards Macalé)
07 – Puntos Cardinales (Jards Macalé / Jorge Mautner)
08 – Estranha (Jards Macalé / Xico Chaves)
09 – Encontro (Jards Macalé / Naná Vasconcelos)
10 – Let’s Play That 2 (Jards Macalé / Torquato Neto)
