It is very hard to speak about this record, one of the first albums made available at Loronix. I think since then he has reached his goal, being important to bring new people to our community, to reveal Joyce for many people, especially outside Brazil. Just use Google to concatenate “Joyce” “feminina” and “Loronix” that will be easy to understand what I am saying. The outcome of this search brings enthusiastic testimonials about Feminina, in fact a really nice record. This is incredible, makes me feel that Loronix creates demand, a new audience for Brazilian music. I only regret that since the first post in July 2006, Feminina has not been reissued. Let’s see.

This is Joyce – Feminina (1980), for Odeon, featuring only Joyce compositions, Joyce arrangements and a constellation of Brazilian musicians. Joyce and Feminina is a favorite of many Loronixers and I think I said everything I want in the first paragraph. Stay with Joyce, in peace and have a nice Thursday. Tracks include:

Joyce - Hard Bossa (1999)
A couple of hours ago, an anonymous friend wrote this really overwhelming comment at the last Elizeth Cardoso – Momento de Amor (1968) release.”Zeca, I have been visiting your site for about 6 months now and have never left a comment because I was waiting for the right words to come…I guess I am not good with words. Let me say that your site has opened up a whole new musical universe for me. I have fell in love with so many artists. I can’t belief that before I visited your site I never knew about Dorival Caymmi, Maysa, Pery Ribeiro, Fafa Lemos, Tamba Trio, Os Ipanemas…(the list goes on and on). They are now all a part of me. I can’t thank you enough! And thank you for this wonderful Elizeth Cardoso album!”

I decided to make it public, just to say thanks to the so far unknown anonymous friend. Additionally, this statement makes me remember an artist that uses the same value proposition, almost a Bossa Nova warrior from the 21th Century. I’m talking about Joyce, she still recording Bossa Nova, creating new audience to Brazilian music all over the world.

This album is a perfect example, released by Far Out Recordings in 1999, brings the Bossa Nova message on title, creating passion with Brazilian music and our country. Let’s see.

This is Joyce – Hard Bossa (1999), for Far Out Recordings, the amazing UK label with several Brazilian artists in the cast that I urge Loronixers to visit their website and purchase their albums, which includes the last release by Arthur Verocai – Encore, featuring Azymuth and Ivan Lins. Far Out website is here. Hard Bossa has gone out of print and features Joyce recreating her “feminina” style, blending Jazz with Brazilian music, performed gently with the use of acoustic instruments. I did not have time to track down personnel listing, but the album is so good that as soon as possible someone will make it for us. Tracks include:

01 – Zoeira (Joyce / Paulo César Pinheiro)
02 – Quarup (Joyce / Paulo César Pinheiro)
03 – Criança (Joyce)
04 – Nome De Guerra (Joyce / Paulo César Pinheiro)
05 – London Samba (Joyce / Maurício Maestro)
06 – Todos Os Santos (Joyce / Paulo César Pinheiro)
07 – Juparana (Joyce / Paulo César Pinheiro)
08 – Novelo (Joyce / Paulo César Pinheiro)
09 – Hard Bossa (Joyce)
10 – Vatapá (Joyce / Léa Freire)

This is Joyce – Hard Bossa (1999), at Far Out. Hope uEnjoy!

Trix, the knowledgeable Loronixer from Belo Horizonte, told me a couple of days ago that Loronix lacks on the Brazilian singer Joyce. It was wise of him to make this remark, Joyce is a worldwide acclaimed artist and very popular among Loronixers. We are showing Joyce tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim, recorded in 1987 with the Brazilian pianist Gilson Peranzzetta.

This is Joyce – Tom Jobim | Os Anos 60 (1987), for Columbia. I hope you appreciate this pick, Tom Jobim – Os Anos 60 was made in partnership with Gilson Peranzzetta that delivers arrangements and piano playing in all tracks. It has been a while since I heard Joyce and she is a great singer and plays a wonderful violao, heard also in all tracks.

We have a video available with this post, probably the first one we make very associated with the album. The video brings Joyce, Gilson Peranzzetta and Antonio Carlos Jobim, recorded in 1987, the same year of the album release.

Tracks include:

01 – Corcovado (Tom Jobim)
02 – Wave (Tom Jobim)
03 – O Amor Em Paz (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
04 – Desafinado (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)

Hello, Good Night! I will not forget that Juarez Araujo post from yesterday with the pictures sent by Jean Yves. Great. Everybody is happy, Jean sent me a very nice email and I received other warm messages from Loronixers. I just want to make one thing clear, the guy at the cover of Juarez LPs is not Juarez, perhaps a contracted person just to make the photos.

Anyway, let’s talk about this post; this is Nelson Angelo e Joyce – Nelson Angelo e Joyce (1972), for Odeon, the third Joyce LP from Joyce, a Brazilian singer with several fans at Loronix. Joyce was married with Nelson Angelo when this LP was recorded in 1972. I think this makes the difference on this nice album with both playing and making several duets together as they were rehearsing on their living room. People say that this is a classic album from Brazilian MPB in the 70’s. Let’s check it together. Tracks include:

01 – Um Gosto de Fruta (Nelson Ângelo / Joyce)
02 – Hotel Universo (Nelson Ângelo / Ronaldo Bastos)
03 – Sete Cachorros (Nelson Ângelo / Joyce)
04 – Linda (Nelson Ângelo / Joyce)
05 – Comunhão (Nelson Ângelo / Joyce)
06 – Ponte Nova (Nelson Ângelo / Joyce) – with: Novelli
07 – The Man From The Avenue (Nelson Ângelo / Joyce)
08 – Tiro Cruzado (Nelson Ângelo / Márcio Borges)
09 – Pessoas (Nelson Ângelo / Joyce)
10 – Meus Vinte Anos (Joyce / Ronaldo Bastos)
11 – Mantra (Nelson Ângelo / Joyce)
12 – Vivo Ou Morto (Danilo Caymmi / João Carlos Pádua)
13 – Tudo Começa de Novo (Nelson Ângelo / Joyce)

Publicado em: Tuesday, August 08, 2006 by zecalouro

The first Joyce recording as a singer was in 1964, as member of Conjunto Sambacana, since then, Joyce has recorded 21 solo discs. The first Joyce LP from 1968 self titled from Philips is already available at Loronix. The second and the last for this label, Joyce – Encontro Marcado (1969) was produced by Nelson Motta with arrangements by Luiz Eça.

Luiz Eça made orchestrated arrangements to this LP. If you are familiared with the later smooth and easy to listen Joyce recordings it will be a surprise to hear to this one, Joyce was still fine-tuning his singing and interpretation skills. Tracks include:

01 – Adam, Adam (D.P.)
02 – Encontro Marcado (Joyce)
03 – Bom Dia (Gilberto Gil – Nana Caymmi)
04 – Copacabana Velha de Guerra (Sergio Flaksman – Joyce)
05 – Como vai, vai bem? (Nelson Ângelo)
06 – Asa branca (Luiz Gonzaga – Humberto Teixeira)
07 – Longe do Tempo (João Carlos Pádua – Danilo Caymmi)
08 – A Saudade Mata a Gente (Antônio Almeida – João de Barro)
09 – Preparando um Luminoso (Capinan – Joyce)
10 – Pra Saber de Nada (Joyce)
11 – Caminho pro Sol (Sergio Flaksman – Nelson Ângelo)

Big question: how zecalouro could forget Joyce after more than a hundred posts? Bad green bird. Well, Joyce is so cool that it is mandatory to start from her 1968 debut album Joyce – Selftitled.

I want to say thank you to Domingos Junior, a very friend of Loronix, that owns a Blog calledPlease, Garçon! – one of the tracks from Joyce – that made me remember of her. He is also zecalouro’s Doris Monteiro Consultant. Thanks Domingos.
