Trio Surdina com Pierre Kolmann ao Piano - Boleros em HI-FI (1958)

I have been very busy during the past two months, on a manner that you cannot realize how. This is the reason why Loronix is delivering two daily releases, instead of 3 or even 4 as we made across 2007. Actually, I am enjoying this new configuration; it allows everyone to make a better follow-up of Loronix daily activities.

However, Brazilian music is very rich on styles and this is a problem from my editorial perspective. I need answer for a question, which is, how to distribute all these different styles across the week to address wants and needs of everybody? Anyway, I think the answer to this question will appear very soon, meanwhile, we will visit after a long hiatus the “Para Dancar” style, featuring a legendary group that deserves everybody attention, the legendary Trio Surdina. Let’s see.

This is Trio Surdina com Pierre Kolmann ao Piano – Boleros em HI-FI (1958), for Musidisc, featuring not credited musicians using the name of Trio Surdina, owned by Nilo Sergio, which is the owned of the record label Musidisc. Trio Surdina original formation with Fafa Lemos (violin), Garoto (violao) and Chiquinho do Acordeon (accordion) recorded only a few initial albums. In the other hand, Pierre Kolmann is the nickname of a well-known artist at Loronix, Leal Brito, or Britinho, probably using Pierre Kolmann due contracts obligations with other record company or only as a marketing strategy of Nilo Sergio. Tracks include:

01 – Frenesi (A. Dominguez)
02 – Esperame En El Cielo (F. Lopez)
03 – Soñando Contigo (Anísio Silva / Fausto Guimarães)
04 – Besame Mucho (Consuelo Velasquez)
05 – Hasta Cuando (João Leal Brito ”Britinho”)
06 – Que Murmuren (R. Fuentes / R. Carde)
07 – Mi Oración (Boulanger / Kennedy)
08 – Amor Mio (Álvaro Carrillo)
09 – Angustia (Orlando Brito)
10 – Dos Almas (Don Fabian)
11 – Canción de Amor Cubano (H. Stothard / J. McHugh / D. Fields)
12 – Desesperadamente (Gabriel Ruiz / L. Mendez)

.

Este disco pode ser buscado no Trackfinder Brazil. Fica a dúvida (ver comentários): Pierre Kolmann é um pseudônimo do Leal Brito ou do Waldir Calmon?

Leal Brito - Noel Rosa Sem Parceiros (1957)

Limited by those hosting issues explained on last post, I had to find alternatives of good music not necessarily made available on big FLAC files. For my surprise, there are several wonderful albums on an old hard drive that I thought it defective and now works perfect. A friend in the very beginning of Loronix sent this album and I do not understand why it was not released earlier. Let’s see.

This is Leao Brito e Seu Conjunto – Noel Rosa sem Parceiros (1957), for Sinter. Actually the Brazilian pianist Leal Brito, also knwon as Britinho, has the accompaniment of four different conjuntos, called by Sinter as Conjunto A, B, C and D, each one with a different set-up. The album title, Noel Rosa sem Parceiros, defines the repertoire, featuring twelve Noel Rosa compositions without partnership. If the friend who sent this album is still tuned with Loronix, please drop me a line or use comment section, I want to give credits to this really nice contribution. Tracks include:

Baiao Nr. 3 (1953)

Hello, good evening! Let’s start this Saturday visiting another album from a very nice and old Musidisc sequel dedicated to a genre that dominated Brazilian popular music in the 40’s and 50’s, the Baiao. We made available a couple of months ago Baiao Nr. 2, and now it is time to show Baiao Nr. 3, much better than the second one. Let’s see.

This is Baiao Nr. 3 (1953), for Musidisc, featuring the Brazilian pianist Leal Brito, later known as Britinho, and several special guests, such as the vocal group Tres Marias, Nilo Sergio, Manezinho Araujo and Catulo de Paula. The repertoire features sixteen Baiao tunes, with instrumental tracks by Leal Brito and lyrics when a special guest makes an appearance. I like Baiao and Leal Brito instrumental tracks really worth checking out. Tracks include:

I think we will not go wrong making two albums in the 10-inch format in a row, starting with a very old album that I had the chance to take in opposite conditions, a perfect cover, just as it was released in 1953 and a really scratch media that I had to put some effort to make it ready. Let’s see this first.

This is Leal Brito – Um Piano Dentro da Noite (1953), for Musidisc. There is something with this cover that makes me feel afraid of it, but it is a nice work made 54 years ago. This cover also brings something really common in the 50’s, no credits to main performer, which is only credited at the back cover. Um Piano Dentro da Noite is a piano solo album, performed by Leal Brito, also known as Britinho, a very active musician in the 50’s. Tracks include:

01 – Cabelos Brancos (Marino Pinto / Herivelto Martins) Tu (Ary Barroso) Feitiço da Vila (Noel Rosa / Vadico)
02 – Oracion Caribe (Agustin Lara) India (José Asunción Flores / Manuel Ortiz Guerrero) Usted (Gabriel Ruiz / J. A. Zorilla)
03 – Dia de Sol (Leal Brito “Britinho”) Casinha da Colina (Tradicional) Nova Ilusão (José Menezes / Luis Bittencourt)
04 – Nem Eu (Dorival Caymmi) Sertaneja (René Bittencourt) Três Apitos (Noel Rosa)
05 – Ai Que Saudades da Amélia (Ataulfo Alves / Mário Lago) Alguém Como Tu (José Maria de Abreu / Jair Amorim) Maringá (Joubert de Carvalho)
06 – Seu Eu Morresse Amanhã (Antônio Maria) Foi Ela (Ary Barroso) Menino Grande (Antônio Maria)
07 – Não Troquemos de Mal (Rubens Leal Brito / Jorge Faraj) Chá Para Dois (V. Youmans / Irving Caesar) Auf Wiedersehen (E. Storch)
08 – Na Madrugada (Nilo Sergio) Mulher Rendeira (Tradicional / Adpt. Nilo Sergio) No Rancho Fundo (Ary Barroso / Lamartine Babo)

.

I would like to make something different now by showing two very old and nice 10-inch records released by Musidisc in 1953. The first, everybody known the group and musicians, the legendary Trio Surdina with their original formation, featuring Fafa Lemos, Chiquinho do Acordeon and Garoto on a tribute album to Dorival Caymmi and Noel Rosa. The second has three different main performers fitting on the small 10-inch media, Tres Marias, Leal Brito and Catulo de Paula, which is an artist requested by Loronixers. Let’s see the first with a single download link for both at the end.

This is Trio Surdina – Trio Surdina Interpreta Noel Rosa e Dorival Caymmi (1953), for Musidisc, with the four tracks of side A dedicated to Dorival Caymmi and the others of side B to Noel Rosa. Tracks include:

Personnel

Fafa Lemos
(violin, voice)
Chiquinho do Acordeon
(accordion)
Garoto
(violao)

Track List

01 – Nem Eu (Dorival Caymmi)
02 – O Que É Que a Baiana Tem (Dorival Caymmi)
03 – O Mar (Dorival Caymmi)
04 – Não Tem Solução (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle)
05 – Fita Amarela (Noel Rosa)
06 – Três Apitos (Noel Rosa)
07 – Conversa de Botequim (Noel Rosa / Vadico)
08 – Com Que Roupa (Noel Rosa)

Our second Musidisc 10-inch feature three artists on a single album, As Tres Marias, a renowned female vocal trio in the 40’s to 50’s, the pianist Leal Brito, accompanied by a sextet and Catulo de Paula, making his debut on recordings.

This is Tres Marias, Leal Brito e Catulo de Paula – Baiao Nr. 2 (1953), for Musidisc. The kind of music you will hear at Baiao Nr. 2 is really disconnected with the “modern” Bossa Nova times we know up to the late 50’s until today. Tracks include:

01 – Onda do Mar (Leal Brito / Paulo Soledade) – TRES MARIAS
02 – Chuveu to Vortando (Catulo de Paula / Carlos Galindo) – CATULO DE PAULA
03 – Celeste no Baiao (Nilo Sergio) – LEAL BRITO
04 – Concerto no Baiao (adapt. Nilo Sergio / Leal Brito) – LEAL BRITO
05 – Ciranda no Baiao (adapt. Nilo Sergio) – LEAL BRITO
06 – Tico Tico de Campina (Jorge Faraj / Leal Brito) – TRES MARIAS
07 – Mania do Mane (Catulo de Paula / Carlos Galindo) – CATULO DE PAULA
08 – Baiao Moreno (Barriguinha / Caco Velho) – TRES MARIAS

.

O disco do Trio Surdina pode ser buscado no Abracadabra.

Já o Baião no 2 pode ser buscado no Forró em Vinil.
