Gemini V Mexico

Hello, good evening! The technology I have been putting in place to support Loronix is invisible. Loronix runs at Google Inc. Blogger technology, which is identified by the blogspot.com domain. However, several features runs out of blogger, such like Loronix Find It, a MySQL / PHP database hosted at zecalouro.com domain, videos, CBox and now Loronix Preview Center. These services make Loronix a little bit different from the other websites, and we cannot live without. We are facing outages on these external services this weekend and I have been working hard with my hosting provider to fix it.

I don’t have idea on how big is this outage. I think it is only affecting Brazilian or South American pipes to US. If you reach Loronix from other regions or continents, please, let me know if you are facing these problems, so I can report better and have this situation fixed sooner. Thanks for your attention.

This is Os Bossa Tres, Leny Andrade & Pery Ribeiro – Gemini V en Mexico | Grabado ao Vivo! (1967), for Odeon, courtesy of Caetano Rodrigues and supposed to be released on our 2 million hits celebration, but postponed. It is really a mandatory repost Caetano provides us, with upgrades on vinyl transfer and the increasing popular FLAC format. Gemini 5 en Mexico was recorded live and it is a very hard to find album, never released in CD. Luiz Carlos Vinhas from Os Bossa Tres is in charge of arrangements, being also producer. Tracks include:

I’m back from Paulinho Trumpete tribute to Durval Ferreira concert. Paulinho made a beautiful tribute and played like a giant backed by wonderful musicians. I should make it more often. I received a nice gift to Loronixers (to be revealed soon) and this music video featuring Leny Andrade and Paulinho Trumpete.

Paulinho is recording a new solo album, to be announced at Loronix as soon as released. Meanwhile, stay with Leny Andrade and Paulinho Trumpete.

Hope uEnjoy!

Music Video | Durval Ferreira – Batida Diferente & Radio Amendoeira rare track

It has been a week since Durval Ferreira has passed and since then, fans around the world have been sending videos, rare tracks and many other material associated with his memory. It is time to celebrate again this great musician, showing a video pointed by Cesar Saldanha and made available at You Tube by the excellent folks of Alma Carioca. Durval Ferreira and Leny Andrade perform together Batida Diferente.

Aditionally, another friend sent us a rare tape of Durval Ferreira, Egberto Gismonti and Orlandivo rehearsing Prum Samba. This tape comes from the legendary Radio Amendoeira, which is in fact a funny name to the apartment of Fernando Picanco, a cool friend of Brazilian musicians that made his home available for rehearsals and sessions to listen Jazz albums that only Fernando had at that time.

Fernando had a tape recorder that was used to document some rehearsals. As the place was surrounded by Amendoeiras (a kind of Brazilian tree), people named the place as Radio Amendoeira. This nine-minute track comes from Fernando Picanco tapes. Thanks a lot Fernando, your tape is now at Loronix and everybody will listen to the great moments you kindly provided to Brazilian musicians. Radio Amendoeira meetings started in the late 60’s, being active until the mid 70’s, unfortunately, Fernando Picanco left us in the end of 2005 and cannot see his creation at the Internet.
Hope uEnjoy!

Leny Andrade – Gravado no Mexico (1966)
Sunday, October 29, 2006 by zecalouro

I think there is some kind if mystery connection with Brazilian artists and their LPs recorded in Mexico. As far as I remember, Loronix has Carlos Lyra, Wilson Simonal, Tamba Trio and Joao Gilberto “recorded in Mexico” LPs, all great.

Let’s try another, in collaboration with Mr. K. from Japan, Leny Andrade – Gravado no Mexico (1966), really hard to find and perhaps unknown for many, even Leny Andrade aficionados. This is the kind of record that everybody knowns that exist but nobody had the chance to listen.

Leny has the accompaniement of Breno Sauer (vibraphone), Portinho (drums), Erneo Eger (bass) and Adao Pinheiro (piano). I’m making available tracks, a 30s sample and also Leny Andrade & Luiz Carlos Vinhas music video presenting Influencia do Jazz.

01 – Saravá (Samba da Benção) (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Canto de Chegar (Mutinho)
03 – Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso) — Saudades da Bahia (Dorival Caymmi)
04 – Estamos Aí (Durval Ferreira / Regina Werneck / Maurício Einhorn)
05 – Noite do Meu Bem (Dolores Duran)
06 – Aruanda (Carlos Lyra) — Feio Não É Bonito (Carlos Lyra / Gianfrancesco Guarnieri) — Exaltação à Mangueira (Da Costa / Da Silva)

I will not make you feel bored this time several information about this LP. Just a few things are enough to your understanding that we have here something unique. Leny Andrade – A Arte Maior de Leny Andrade (1964) for Polydor, is a live set, at Bacarrat nightclub (as far as I could search). The recording quality is awesome considering the resources available in the 60’s. Leny speaks to the audience on what seems to be a tiny place by the number of hands clapping.

The set is full of Bossa Nova standards with arrangements and piano of Tenorio Jr., Milton Banana on drums and Zezinho on bass. Breathtaking. A Arte Maior also landmarks the first recording of Influencia do Jazz (Carlos Lyra). I think this is enought to capture your attention, an outstanding trio and a great diva. Tracks include:

01 – Samba do Avião (Tom Jobim)
02 – A Morte de Um Deus de Sal (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
03 – Baiãozinho (Eumir Deodato)
04 – Amor de Nada (Paulo Sergio Valle / Marcos Valle)
05 – Embalo (Tenório Júnior)
06 – Vai de Vez (Roberto Menescal / Luis Fernando Freire)
07 – O Mar e o Amor (Odilon Olyntho / Jorge Omar)
08 – Vivo Sonhando (Tom Jobim)
09 – Consolação (Vinicius de Moraes / Baden Powell)
10 – Moça Flor (Durval Ferreira / Luis Fernando Freire)
11 – There Will Never Be Another You (M. Gordon / H. Warren)
12 – Influência do Jazz (Carlos Lyra)

Probably unknown outside Brazil, since she has started his international career only in the 80’s, Leny Andrade is one of the Greatest Brazilian Jazz Divas. Leny has a great reputation and is acknowledged by the many top musicians who have performed with her, such as Paquito D’Rivera (who considers Andrade his favorite singer), Luiz Eça, Dick Farney, João Donato, Eumir Deodato and Francis Hime.

This 1965 LP, Estamos Ai, has her biggest hit, Estamos Ai, and believe me friends; it is amazing, really above the Brazilian Jazz from the 60’s. Eumir Deodato is in charge of the arrangements and as Leny, was also inspired, delivering the idea for Leny.
