It is really exciting to start a new Caetano Rodrigues contribution series; Caetano sent 46 impossible to find albums to Lorinixers, most of them from the golden age, the 60’s. Full listing is a secret, sorry about the friends who reach me, I cannot anticipate, there are only four people in the world who know the full listing, Caetano, his wife, zecalouro and myself. Actually three, zecalouro is not human.

Anyway, let’s start great, showing a really hard to find album that combines top-notch Samba Jazz music with a wonderful cover.

This is Luiz Loy Quinteto – Luiz Loy Quinteto (1966), for RGE, featuring Luis Loy (piano), Roberto Bandeira (bass), Zinho (drums), Mazola (sax tenor, flute) and the legendary Papudinho (piston). I always though Luiz Loy was the sax player, the one we can see his back playing sax, but I was wrong. It is also a nice surprise that we will hear again thee pistonist Papudinho, which is the small guy on our left. Luiz Loy released only four albums, the first in 1962 and the last one in 1968, I don’t know if he could follow a career as musician before these four fantastic albums.

Thanks Caetano for this first out of 46 (I said 46) new contributions to Loronixers. Tracks include:

This is really amazing, another great instrumental tribute to Chico Buarque de Hollanda. The first, also sponsored by Caetano, is an Aecio Flavio orchestra LP. Now we go again on Chico Buarque instrumental with a Samba Jazz Quintet, not a given combo, a group lead by an artist that was never released at Loronix before. Let’s see this next Caetano’s surprise.

This is Luiz Loy Quinteto – Chico Buarque Instrumental (1967), for RGE, also known as Luiz Loy Quinteto Interpreta Chico Buarque de Hollanda. It is the kind of record that drives me crazy when talking with Caetano, as follows:

(Caetano) – zeca, do you have Luiz Loy Quinteto – Chico Buarque Instrumental?
(zeca) – Noooooooooo. (big eyes)
(Caetano) (surprised) – Why you don’t have this record?
(zeca) (nervous) – Caetano, I don’t have and probably you are the only privileged human being in the world who has it.

Then Caetano makes 2 seconds of a deep silent and life goes on as usual. Caetano is really great. Chico Buarque Instrumental features Luiz Loy (piano), Bandeira (bass), Zinho (drums), the legendary Papudinho (piston) and Mazzola (sax tenor). Tracks include:

01 – Quem Te Viu Quem Te Vê (Chico Buarque)
02 – Noite dos Mascarados (Chico Buarque)
03 – Será Que Cristina Volta (Chico Buarque)
04 – Olê Olá (Chico Buarque)
05 – Você Não Ouviu (Chico Buarque)
06 – Madalena Foi Pro Mar (Chico Buarque)
07 – A Banda (Chico Buarque)
08 – A Rita (Chico Buarque)
09 – Amanhã Ninguém Sabe (Chico Buarque)
10 – Sonho de Um Carnaval (Chico Buarque)
11 – Meu Refrão (Chico Buarque)
12 – Tem Mais Samba (Chico Buarque)

In one of those zecalouro’s flights over the old vinyl stores at Copacabana, he found this piece and although it is a record already available at Loronix, we have a mandatory repost here. Caetano also agrees that this LP is truly amazing and deserves a better place in 2007, instead of being lost on a given week of 2006. Additionally, we have now details that were not available by the time of the first post. I’m sure that you should be pleased with this release.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Muito Elizeth (1965), for Copacabana. Top three Elizeth Cardoso albums on her vast discography. The liner notes written by Herminio Belo de Carvalho is also a masterpiece and has a very interest statement when he mention the composer of track 06 – Amor de Carnaval (Gilberto Gil), saying that we will heard a lot about him in the future.

The production is in charge of Moacyr Silva and three combos, Som Tres, Luiz Loy Quinteto and Conjunto Regional do Caculinha, back Elizeth Cardoso. The album has a concept, showing tunes from Pixinguinha to Chico Buarque de Hollanda, approaching several decades. Pretty self-explanatory music from Elizeth Cardoso, one of the greatest Brazilian divas. Tracks include:

01 – Mundo Melhor (Pixinguinha / Vinicius de Moraes) (*)
02 – Ginga Muxique (Maurício Tapajós / Hermínio Bello de Carvalho) (**)
03 – Sem Mais Adeus (Francis Hime / Vinicius de Moraes) (**)
