Elza Soares - Elza Miltinho E Samba (1967)

Elza Miltinho E Samba (1967)Back

Hello, good evening! This is the reposting of an album made available three years ago when Loronix was just beginning, featuring Elza Soares and Miltinho in their first out of three albums titled “Elza Miltinho e Samba” with the duo performing together a repertoire of Sambas organized on medleys and individual tracks.

I remembered this album when I saw the streets of Rio de Janeiro with several posters announcing a concert with Elza Soares and her new experience with Seu Jorge’s Farofa Carioca group. It has been more than 40 years since Elza and Miltinho recorded this album and it is really fantastic to know they are alive and kicking today. Let’s see.

This is Elza Soares & Miltinho – Elza, Miltinho e Samba (1967), for Odeon, featuring arrangements by Maestro Orlando Silveira supported by Maestro Nelsinho and Lyrio Panicalli. Musicians in this session were not credited by Odeon, even when it was included on Elza Soares box set released by EMI Odeon in 2003. Tracks include:

01 – Com Que Roupa (Noel Rosa) Se Você Jurar (Ismael Silva / Nilton Bastos / Francisco Alves)
02 – Beijo na Boca (Ciro de Souza / Augusto Garcez) Requebre Que Eu Dou Um Doce (Dorival Caymmi) Tem Que Ter (Túlio Piva)
03 – Boogie-woogie na Favela (Denis Brean) Bonitão (Marino Pinto / Mário Rossi) Eu Quero Um Samba (Haroldo Barbosa / Janet de Almeida) Pourquoi (Essa Nega Sem Sandália) (Caco Velho / Jadir de Castro)
04 – Se Você Visse (Horondino Silva “Dino” / Del Loro) featuring MILTINHO
05 – Todo Dia É Dia (Zuzuca / Benedito Reis) featuring ELZA SOARES

Hello, good evening! The albums recorded by Doris Monteiro and Miltinho are among the most requested by our community. They are part of a series called Doris, Miltinho e Charme, with the first being released in 1970, until the last and fourth in 1973. I believe these albums are difficult to find, since it is the first from the series I’m proud to have. I never heard about a single album from this series being released on CD, these albums are really challenging, even if you not a regular Samba listener. Let’s see.

This is Doris Monteiro e Miltinho – Doris, Miltinho e Charme, Vol. 3 (1972), for Odeon, featuring arrangements by Maestro Nelsinho, which is always a guarantee of nice trombone playing and arrangements on top of Samba. I think this third volume is the better than the other two we have already at Loronix, it is better produced, recorded with this truly amazing cover artwork. Maestro Lindolpho Gaya is in charge of music direction, such as many Odeon releases from the early 70’s. Tracks include eighteen songs organized at seven medleys. Tracks include:

back

01 – Rio-samba (Cezão / Pedro Rainho) Minha Escola (Jair Amorim / Evaldo Gouveia) Sinfonia do Carnaval (Helena de Lima / Concessa Lacerda) Poeira (Telemar / Cléo)
02 – Mas Que Doidice (Antônio Carlos Marques / Jocafi) Até Eu (Baden Powell / Paulo César Pinheiro)
03 – O Amor e a Rosa (Pernambuco / Antônio Maria) Guardei a Rosa (Pernambuco)
04 – Testamento (Toquinho / Vinicius de Moraes) A Vida dos Outros (Antônio Valentim) Dizem Por Aí (Manoel da Conceição / Alberto Paz) Cuidado Com o Andor (Mário Lago / Marino Pinto) Poeira (Telemar / Cléo)
05 – Diz Que Sim (Luis Antônio) Com o Amor Não Se Brinca (Carlito / Romeo Nunes)
06 – Doce Lembrança (Carlito / Waldemar Gomes) Deixa (Vinicius de Moraes / Baden Powell)
07 – Aquele Seu Adeus (Aloísio Marins / José Augusto)

Miltinho - Poema do Adeus (1962)

There was a time at Loronix where every month we had a new album recorded by one of the Samba interpreters that I like most, Milton Santos de Almeida or just Miltinho. I could not believe when Loronix Find It returned the last Miltinho album as of August 2007, it is almost a year and Miltinho needs to be back to Loronix first page immediately. Let’s see.

This is Miltinho – Poema do Adeus (1962), for RGE, featuring Orquestra RGE with not credited maestro and musicians. Poema do Adeus is a very early Miltinho record, but is not an album recorded by a beginner. Since the 40’s, Miltinho was an active artist, being member of renowned vocal groups, such like: Cancioneiros do Luar, Namorados da Lua, Anjos do Inferno and Quatro Ases e um Coringa. I’m taking advantage of the opportunity to replay a fantastic music video featuring Miltinho and Ed Motta, performing Meu Nome e Ninguem in the year of 2003. I forgot to say that Rildo Hora is the harmonica player. Tracks include:

01 – Poema do Adeus (Luis Antônio)
02 – Palhaçada (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
03 – Estou Só (Raul Sampaio / Benil Santos)
04 – Fim de Parceria (Fernando César / Dalton Vogeler)
05 – A Canção Que Virou Você (Luis Antônio)
06 – Maldade (Jair Amorim / Evaldo Gouveia)
07 – Mulata Assanhada (Ataulfo Alves)
08 – Estrada do Amor (Luis Antônio)
09 – Solução (Raul Sampaio / Ivo Santos)
10 – E o Tempo Parou (Édson Borges)
11 – Perdoa Coração (Marino Pinto / Aloísio de Barros)
12 – Depois (Capiba / Thalma de Oliveira)

Space… the Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before. Sorry about that, I love Star Trek, this sentence is the introduction of each Star Trek episode and it is all about this, let’s say, space album. I was looking for this upgrade for months and last week I could make the vinyl transfer of my dreams, including FLAC files and enhanced cover scans. This album features Baden Powell as sideman in a very early age and it is also Miltinho debut LP. Let’s see.

This is Miltinho – Miltinho e O Sexteto Sideral | Um Novo Astro (1960), for Sideral, a record label that released less than a dozen albums, which I do not have any info about and would like to know more. Sexteto Sideral features a constellation of Brazilian musicians, in the spirit of this “space” LP and I’m not sure if the sextet was assembled only for this recording session or was also in other Sideral releases. Baden Powell delivers truly amazing guitar playing here, especially on track 12 – Eu e o Rio, where only Baden Powell violao and bass back Miltinho. Tracks include:

Personnel

Celso Pereira
(piano)
Celio Damasio
(bass)
Jorginho
(sax)
Neco
(guitar)
Baden Powell
(violao)
Mauricio
(drums)
Humberto, Nilson
(percussion)

Track List

I know this album fits better on a given weekend Samba day; however, I had no chance but make it today. I took a time today to dig an unknown old record store in Rio de Janeiro. When I was leaving the store, I heard two guys talking something about Loronix and this time I decided to introduce myself as zecalouro. They did not believe, they thought I was kidding, when I said: “OK, let’s make like this, tonight I will make this album available there, so you will believe”. I just retrieved the first one in my hand. I hope they are smiling now.

This is Miltinho – Quanto Mais Samba Melhor (1967), for Odeon, an album that I did not know the existence, featuring arrangements by Maestro Nelsinho and Maestro Lyrio Panicalli, in charge of tracks 01 – Manchete, 06 – Viver and 12 – Historia de Uma Roseira Triste. This is a very well produced album that I hope will give you high quality entertainment. Tracks include:

01 – Manchete (Cidamar)
02 – Lampião Vadio (Luis Reis / Luis Antônio)
03 – Onde a Terra Começa (Luis Reis / Luis Antônio)

Hello, Good Evening! Loronix Music from All Countries was very good. I hope there is someone to read this lines. It seems that everybody is locked at home hearing the great music we had in this four-day celebration. We are always open to ideas and any kind of feedback to adjustments and new improvements. Tell us if you have a new event idea or any existent feature that you see an opportunity to improve. I can’t stop thinking about our next event.

I’m bored today. An essential piece of hardware at Loronix has broken today and I cannot replace it with an equivalent. My Honeywell Super Turbo High Performance Fan – HWL-HT800 stopped working after 7 years cooling my office and IT equipment. Honeywell is not in Brazil, so I cannot replace with another and even fix the existent since the plastic cabinet is sealed. I will ask a special favor to Loronixers, this Turbo High Performance Fan is sold by US$ 15,00 in average on every good on-line store I could check today. I pay the cost and transportation expenses if someone can make it. I will be truly grateful for the forthcoming 7 years.

This is Elza Soares & Miltinho – Elza, Miltinho e Samba Vol. 3(1969), for Odeon. You know that Saturday we start the day with Samba and we can’t go wrong with Samba performed by this legendary duo, Elza Soares and Miltinho. This is the third out of three albums they made together for Odeon and we are closing this series, Volumes 1 and 2 are already available at Loronix. Tracks include:

01 – Medlley 1 | Juntinhos de Novo (Nelsinho) Não Manche o Meu Panamá (Alcebíades Nogueira) O Sorriso do Paulinho (Gastão Viana / Mário Rossi) Oito Mulheres (José Batista) Embrulho Que Eu Carrego (Djalma Mafra / Alvaiade) Despacho (Ary Barroso)
02 – Medlley 2 | Saia do Meu Caminho (Custódio Mesquita / Evaldo Ruy) Nervos de Aço (Lupicínio Rodrigues) Por Causa de Você (Tom Jobim / Dolores Duran)

Miltinho is an always claimed artist, claimed with energy by many friends on several channels, email, orkut, CBox, comments and not eventually, but weekly, even daily. I hope this widely unknown Miltinho sent by Caetano Rodrigues makes the day of everybody tomorrow morning, Miltinho is a great Samba singer, a perfect close for the weekend putting energy on your Monday.

This is Miltinho – Bossa e Balanco (1963), for RGE. Miltinho released his first LP in 1960, the acclaimed Um Novo Astro with Sexteto Sideral. Bossa and Balanco, released in 1963 is not the second or third Miltinho album, but his tenth LP released in almost four years. It is funny, Miltinho urges radio DJs at the back cover to play his record, so he will have the chance of make another one. Bossa e Balanco is arranged by Maestro Carioca, Waltel Branco, Nelsinho and Jose Meneses.

I also happy to show Loronixers a music video with Miltinho and the great Ed Motta, performing together. A truly awesome video that you cannot miss. Tracks include:

01 – Só Vou de Balanço (João Roberto Kelly)
02 – Morro Mas Um Samba Eu Faço (Lúcio Alves)

Hello, Good Night! Thanks a million for the feedback given to Recordando Carlinhos Guinle, a great release sponsored by Caetano, our pick as yesterday’s closing post. Some additional info, Sylvinha Telles track Voce Nao Sabe Amar was record only for this session and something that I had to highlight and forgot is the participation of the socialite Tereza de Souza Campos, responsible for neck pains on folks when she passed by Copacabana sidewalks at that time.

Let’s start this Monday with the first contribution of our friend Moos from The Netherlands. Moos was in Rio de Janeiro to spend Carnaval and I had a chance to get along with Moos on a day. Moos is a great guy with an immense love to the music from Brazil. He gave to zecalouro a gift, which is something that I was looking for, a pen drive, 1Gb capacity, with several records from his personal collection inside. This is the first Moos pick, taken from the pen drive. Thanks Moos.

This is Djalma Ferreira e os Milionarios do Ritmo – Drink no Rio de Janeiro (1959), for Discos Drink, the kind of record that should please everybody, featuring several artists that got renowned in the 60’s. Drink was a nightclub in Rio de Janeiro and also a record label. Those who never had the chance to see a Drink LP are missing a design work. Drink LPs are beautiful, with several pictures inside and a cover that opens such like a panel. When I get one, I will make some complete photos to share with Loronixers. Drink no Rio de Janeiro crooner is Miltinho. See personnel listing for others. Tracks include:

Publicado em: Thursday, February 08, 2007 by zecalouro

Hello, Good Night! Happened again, but this time I could fix it timely. Yesterday, I start the day announcing Carnaval for the next Saturday, big mistake corrected by Caetano Rodrigues, Carnaval starts only at the end of the next week, not this next Saturday. Today, I was making another mistake, this time a huge one. I was preparing the first post as a celebration of the 100 years anniversary of Frevo. Stupid green bird, it is tomorrow. I’m happy to have checked some sources to avoid it. Anyway, since we will make the tribute tomorrow, I will show you a nice LP from Miltinho, with many fans and Loronix, some of them really fanatic and crazy, they never stop asking for Miltinho. That’s it.

This is Miltinho – Miltinho e Samba (1961), for RGE. This is the Argentinean edition, released by Dimsa. Miltinho has the accompaniment of Orquestra RGE with arrangments and musical direction of Maestro Rubens Perez (Pocho) and Nelsinho, which is a guarantee of trombones on the set. I think this is the first record arranged by Pocho at Loronix. We will have another a solo Pocho album in the forthcoming days; Maestro Pocho is one of Caetano Rodrigues favorites. Tracks include:

01 – Poema das Mãos (Luis Antônio)
02 – Só Vou de Mulher (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
03 – Lamento Bebop (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
04 – Tema É Solidão (Édson Borges / Hianto de Almeida)

Hello, Good Night! Yesterday, I was feeling miserable, but live is not continuous, it is divided in days. Nothing better than a new day after another. Anyway, just want to say that I’m feeling great again. When zeca feels good he likes to do his best to show great music to Loronixers. So let’s start great and happy, with a artist that never seems to had a single bad day, headache, worries in his life.

This is Miltinho – As Mulheres de Miltinho (1968), for Odeon. Just like an early release provided by our great friend Caetano Rodrigues, Os Guanabara Boys – Dancando com as Garotas, As Mulheres de Miltinho has a repertoire dedicated to women with each song makes a reference of a woman, a girl, anyway, Miltinho knows everything about women and you should check what he does in this LP. As Mulheres de Miltinho is arranged by Maestro Nelsinho, so be prepared for several trombones dueling with Miltinho singing. Maestro Lyrio Panicalli is in charge of Musical Direction and Herminio Bello de Carvalho also plays his role as production assistance. Tracks include:

01 – Rosalina (Haroldo Barbosa / Wilson Batista) — Faceira (Ary Barroso) — Maria Boa (Assis Valente)
02 – A Rita (Chico Buarque)
03 – Botões de Laranjeira (Pedro Caetano)

05 – Emília (Haroldo Lobo / Wilson Batista)
06 – Eu Não Posso Ver Mulher (Osvaldo Santiago) — Ora Vejam Só (J. B. da Silva “Sinhô”) — Odete (Dunga / Herivelto Martins)
07 – Doralice (Antônio Almeida / Dorival Caymmi)
08 – Bolinha de Papel (Geraldo Pereira)
09 – Madalena (Ari Macedo / Airton Amorim)
10 – Izaura (Herivelto Martins / Roberto Roberti)

Sorry, I have just received this video with Norma Bengell on a TV commercial in 1957 and could not resist to show everybody. Just click at the middle of the square bellow to play the video.

Today is Saturday, all about happiness, a day where we can go to bed late and wake up the next days with no alarms or agendas. I’m coming back home and spent some time at a bar hearing some nice dudes from my neighbor playing cavaquinho, percussion and a beautiful trombone. Really nice.

This was helpful to decide this post, this is Miltinho – Samba + Samba = Miltinho (1966), for Odeon, Miltinho first LP for Odeon. It has been a guaranteed entertainment all Samba records with the participation of Nelsinho do Trombone, this is not an exception, Samba + Samba = Miltinho is directed by the first class Maestro Lyrio Panicali with orchestra arranged and conduced by Nelsinho do Trombone and Lyrio Panicali, another great brass duel, such like the last Elza Soares release with the same Nelsinho do Trombone.

I think this is another record that will please our very good friend Jean do Trombone, a Brazilian Loronixer and also a great trombonist that lives today in France. Jean this is for you, friend. Tracks include:

01 – E o Juiz Apitou (Antônio Almeida / Wilson Batista) — Juraci (Antônio Almeida / Ciro de Souza) — O Que É Que Eu Dou (Antônio Almeida / Dorival Caymmi)

Welcome back Miltinho, it was very wise of yours to be at Loronix on three posts with Elza Soares and Doris Monteiro, pretty easy with the Divas. Now it is time to see how Miltinho performs alone on his first solo LP at Loronix.

As a matter of fact, this is another release by the mighty Mr. X. once again helping zecalouro to present Miltinho – Samba & Cia (1969), a very successful and popular LP where Miltinho sings well-known Samba pout-pourri very easy to listen and know by heart on a few hearings. AMG Bio is provided. Tracks include:

01 – Bola Preta Pra Mim (Julinho de Castro)
02 – Conceição (Dunga / Jair Amorim) — Se Alguém Telefonar (Alcyr Pires Vermelho / Jair Amorim)
03 – Moeda Quebrada (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis) — Leilão (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
04 – Na Base do Pinguim (João Leal Brito “britinho” / Fernando César) — Velho Gagá (Fernando César)
05 – O Conde (Evaldo Gouveia / Jair Amorim)
06 – Vendi o Sofá (Edenal / Julinha)
07 – Filho de Iemanjá (Evaldo Gouveia / Jair Amorim)

Miltinho had a huge success in the ’50s, making hits on more than 100 recorded albums with songs like “Recado” and “Devaneio,” “Murmúrio” (Djalma Ferreira/Luís Antônio), “Eu e o Rio,” “Mulher de Trinta,” “Ri” (Luís Antônio), “Zé Marmita” (Luís Antônio/Brasinha), “Só Vou de Mulher,” “Meu Nome é Ninguém” (Haroldo Barbosa/Luís Reis), “Poema do Olhar” (Jair Amorim/Evaldo Gouveia), “Mulata Assanhada” (Ataulfo Alves), among others. He began as an amateur singer in the ’40s in the Cancioneiros do Luar vocal group. His professional debut as a singer was in the Rádio Tupi. In 1946, he joined the Namorados da Lua. The following year, the group accompanied the singer Isaura Garcia on the hit “De Conversa em Conversa” (Lúcio Alves/Haroldo Barbosa), which was re-recorded two decades later by João Gilberto. In 1948, he joined the Anjos do Inferno, which toured the U.S. backing Carmen Miranda. He worked for two years in Mexico performing on radio shows and in nightclubs. In 1952, he became a member of the Quatro Ases e Um Curinga, of the Orquestra Tabajara, and of the Milionários do Ritmo. His first solo LP came in 1960, Um Novo Astro (Sideral). After 1966, his duet albums for Odeon with Elza Soares (four) and Dóris Monteiro (four) were also top-sellers. In 1997, he recorded another duet album (Miltinho Sempre Sucessos, Globo/Columbia), performing with João Nogueira, Luís Melodia, João Bosco, Chico Buarque, Elza Soares, and other artists. Commemorating his 54-year career, he recorded Miltinho Convida, which includes duets with Chico Buarque, Fafá de Belém, Nana Caymmi, Doris Monteiro, Elza Soares, Martinho da Vila, MPB-4, João Bosco, Emílio Santiago, João Nogueira, and Tito Madi.

We had the chance to know a long time ago at Loronix – actually, less than 3 months – an Elza Soares LP with Miltinho making duet and talking to each other on a very relaxed way.

Miltinho is the kind of singer that likes to keep good companies and between 1970 and 1973; he made four LPs with Doris Monteiro, using the same successful formula: duet, samba, pout-pourri and happiness.

This is the first release, known as Doris, Miltinho e Charme, Volume 1. By the way, there is something about this cover that makes zecalouro feels dizzy… Tracks include:

• Palmas no portão (Walter Dionísio, D’Acri Luz)
• Pergunte ao João (Helena Silva, Milton Costa)
• Tristeza (Haroldo Lobo, Niltinho)

• Esquecendo você (A.C. Jobim)
• Ilusão à-toa (Johnny Alf)
• Fotografia (A.C. Jobim)

06 – Lobo Bobo (Carlos Lyra – Ronaldo Bôscoli)

This is the second out of three albums that Elza Soares has recorded with Miltinho in the late 60’s. The first one is already available at Loronix and was the first Elza Soares album posted by zecalouro.

Those who got the first Elza Soares – Elza, Miltinho e Samba – Volume 1, do not miss this release.

Here we have the same swing, the same Elza and Miltinho and an outstanding out of print LP from the 60’s that zecalouro is very happy to share with all his friends since Elza has conquered many fans at Loronix.
