Hello! Yesterday, more like a kind of therapy than anything else in this crazy 2009, I made a script that addresses a very old request of Loronix community. It is already available and you probably have seen it. Now we have an option to download individual tracks from a disc, instead of the whole album on a huge zip ball. It is always available as “Individual Tracks” on post closing information (if the size is set to 0,00Mb, don’t worry, the robot will fix it). It is an amazing feature, which is gradually being materialized by a robot that works 24hours a day with no complaints. It is beautiful; he is taking files from Rapidshare, opening on our dedicated server, reading its contents, recording all the information on a database and sending everything back to Rapidshare as single tracks.

Some very interesting numbers were collected so far. From a total of 1894 albums available, the robot has finished with 599, making available 5836 tracks for individual hearing. I believe that in the end of the process we will have 20,000 tracks available. These numbers are crazy and they open possibilities for several innovations in the near future. Additionally, images are also being addressed and so far we have 1350 images available. I’m impressed with these figures. If you have any idea to make use and maximize this work, please drop me a line.

I’m talking today. Perhaps Nara Leao is giving a chance. Nara Leao is the most representative Bossa Nova singer and everybody loves her. Let’s see.

This is Nara Leao – Com Acucar e Com Afeto (1980), for Philips, featuring Chico Buarque compositions and Chico Buarque participation as special guest on three tracks. It is a common mistake to take this one as another Nara Leao release, with the same title and different cover, a commercially available compilation. Nara’s tribute to Chico Buarque is produced and arranged by Octavio Burnier and features a constellation of Brazilian musicians. Tracks include:

Nara Leão - Meu Primeiro Amor-1975-Back

Hello, good evening! There are confusing week and others that are dominated by stagnation and calm, and this one was really confusing. Additionally, it is raining in Rio de Janeiro and the weather starts getting cold. I came home with an idea in mind to listen this Nara Leao album, which is one that I never had the chance to hear before. A first and single listen is not enough to guarantee, but I think we have hear a very solid listen. Meu Primeiro Amor was recorded just before the acclaimed Bossa Nova album Dez Anos Depois, considered by many one of the best Nara Leao releases and both are completely different from each other. Let’s see.

This is Nara Leao – Meu Primeiro Amor (1975), for Philips, featuring Nara Leao performing an unusual repertoire made of folklore and child songs, which is something that Nara Leao defines very well at Meu Primeiro Amor back cover, reproduced here and also available inside the music, great and sweet music that you cannot miss to start a very good weekend. Tracks include:

Nara Inside

I had lot of work to choose this final post. I was looking for something new from Elza Soares, not released at Loronix since last year, but Elza fits well on a Samba day, such like tomorrow, Saturday. Then I found this brand new Nara Leao album, very well produced with arrangements by Joao Donato and Antonio Adolfo. I think we will enter this Saturday in very good company, which is my birthday. Let’s see.

This is Nara Leao – Nasci para Bailar (1983), for Philips, featuring arrangements by Joao Donato and Antonio Adolfo, as described on track listing. Philips, which is really disappointing, did not credit musicians in this session, this album is very well produced and brings a beautiful insert with this nice picture of Nara Leao and lyrics, but any musician received credits for its participation. Anyway, I hope you had a lot of fun with Loronix this Friday with Find It updated and that great Henri Salvador album sent by Cyril. Have a nice weekend. Tracks include:

01 – Nasci Para Bailar (Paulo André / João Donato) JD
02 – Pede Passagem (Sidney Miller) AA
03 – Luz do Sol (Caetano Veloso) AA
04 – Supõe (Supon) (Silvio Rodrigues / Vrs. Chico Buarque) AA
05 – Maravilha Curativa (Miltinho / Kledir Ramil) AA
06 – Tô Com o Diabo no Corpo (Sivuca / Paulinho Tapajós) AA
07 – Questão de Tempo (Kleiton Ramil) AA
08 – Manto Negro (Élton Medeiros / Antônio Valente) AA
09 – Gaiolas Abertas (João Donato / Martinho da Vila) JD
10 – Imagina Só (Imaginate) (Silvio Rodrigues / Vrs. Chico Buarque) AA

Nara & Menescal - Um Cantinho, Um Violao (1985)

In the first day with JOAO-SP contributions, I’m happy to make available two albums from his collection. It was very easy to decide for this one among many choices available, Nara Leao is a favorite singer of many friends and I never had the chance to hear this album. I think a couple of different spins are required to make a final evaluation, but in a first hearing, this is a really nice record, featuring only Nara Leao voice and Roberto Menescal guitar. Let’s see.

This is Nara Leao e Roberto Menescal | Nara & Menescal – Um Cantinho, Um Violao (1985), for Philips, featuring a repertoire of Bossa Nova standards with a song with lyrics in Spanish and other with lyrics in English. Nara Leao voice is good as always, but what amazed me most today was Roberto Menescal, delivering a very nice guitar playing using different styles with some wise solutions. My highlight goes to track 10 – Comigo e Assim (Luiz Bittencourt / Ze Menezes), which is the one made available for your try at Loronix Preview Center. Tracks include:

01 – O Negócio É Amar (Carlos Lyra / Dolores Duran)
02 – Tristeza de Nós Dois (Durval Ferreira / Maurício Einhorn / Bebeto)
03 – Sabor a Mi (Álvaro Carrillo)
04 – Da Cor do Pecado (Bororó)
05 – Transparências (Roberto Menescal / Abel Silva)
06 – Blusão (Roberto Menescal / Xico Chaves)
07 – Resignação (Geraldo Pereira / Arnô Provenzano)
08 – Vestígios (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
09 – There Will Never Be Another You (M. Gordon / H. Warren)
10 – Comigo É Assim (Luis Bittencourt / José Menezes)
11 – Mentiras (João Donato / Lysias Ênio)

Nara Leao - Abracos (1984)

Nara Leao - Abracos (1984)-BACKfeliznatalzecaThis year, Christmas follows immediately the weekend and I think it is a good idea to say Feliz Natal to our community right now, maybe friends will leave tomorrow morning for a big weekend and I would like to leave Loronix message sooner. 5 na Bossa (1965)

5 na Bossa (1965)-BACK

Here we go with another essential album being reposted at Loronix. It’s unbeliveable this one did not have a repost yet, it was released in June 2006, one of the first albums made available at Loronix. Things have changed since then, the original post had a single file of 32Mb with ten tracks at MP3 format and now a single track on FLAC, 10 – Consolacao, has 42Mb. Each aspect was upgraded, including a better scan of this awesome cover artwork. Let’s see.

This is Nara Leao, Edu Lobo & Tamba Trio – 5 na Bossa (1965), for Philips, a live recording featuring 3 of the most groundbreaking artists of the bossa era. The set was recorded in one of the Bossa Nova temples in the 60’s, Teatro Paramount in Sao Paulo. I think 5 na Bossa brings one of the first Nara Leao live recordings, her voice is lovely as usual, but a little bit constrained in some tracks. She performs alone in four tracks and duets with Edu Lobo on Aleluia, which is the track I like most on this set. Edu Lobo performs on three tracks while Tamba Trio has two instrumental cuts and delivers accompaniment all over the session. Tracks include:

Personnel

NARA LEAO

EDU LOBO

TAMBA TRIO

Luiz Eca
(piano, vocals)
Bebeto
(bass, flute, vocals)
Ohana
(drums, vocals)

Track List

AdHoc strikes again and without knowing sent a perfect closing to this celebration of the first Bossa Nova US concert at Carnegie Hall. Nara Leao is truly the Bossa Nova muse, favorite of many Loronixers. I never thought to make this album available at Loronix, this cover artwork looks so modern that I always took this album as a Nara Leao album from the 80s. I had the chance to hear it for the first time today and seem to me this is Nara Leao Tropicalia album, featuring arrangements of Maestro Rogerio Duprat and several early Caetano Veloso compositions. It is not necessary to say that AdHoc delivers best of breed transfers and awesome cover scans from both vinyl and CD versions. Let’s see.

This is Nara Leao – Nara Leao (1968), for Philips. I had a very limited time to get this album atmosphere to write an adequate review, AdHoc delivers the CD version, with lots of complimentary information, including Nara Leao review for each track. So I will let you with Nara Leao, featuring 12 tracks issued in 1968 with two additional CD bonus tracks with the last one featuring Jorge Neri as special guest. Just a little additional thought, track 01 – Lindoneia (Caetano Veloso) is very familiar and it is probably the same version included at Tropicalia – Panis et Circenses, an album that I’m tracking down since the beginning of Loronix. Tracks include:

01 – Lindonéia (Caetano Veloso)
02 – Quem É (Custódio Mesquita / Juraci Camargo)
03 – Donzela Por Piedade Não Perturbes (J. S. Arvelos)
04 – Mamãe Coragem (Caetano Veloso / Torquato Neto)
05 – Anoiteceu (Francis Hime / Vinicius de Moraes)
06 – Modinha (Villa-Lobos / Manuel Bandeira)
07 – Infelizmente (Lamartine Babo / Ari Pavão)
08 – Odeon (Ernesto Nazareth / Vinicius de Moraes)
09 – Mulher (Custódio Mesquita / Sady Cabral)
10 – Medroso de Amor (Alberto Nepomuceno / Juvenal Galeno)
11 – Deus Vos Salve Esta Terra Santa (Caetano Veloso / Torquato Neto)
12 – Tema de ”Os Inconfidentes” (Chico Buarque / Cecília Meireles)
13 – Festa (Dori Caymmi / Nelson Motta) Bonus Track
14 – Linha 12 (Juarez de Souza / Antonio E. Motta) with Jorge Neri

Publicado em: Monday, August 13, 2007 by zecalouro

This is one of the albums I could bring to Loronix from daddy’s place on Dia dos Pais visit. We took it for a hearing in the afternoon and we had a wonderful time together remembering these standards adapted by Nara Leao and other Brazilian artists, such like, Aloysio de Oliveira, Carlos Colla, Paulo Sergio Valle, Pacifico Mascarenhas and others. Meus Sonhos Dourados has some sadness in the background, perhaps for being one of the last Nara Leao albums, but it is beautiful and solid from the start until the end.

This is Nara Leao – Meus Sonhos Dourados (1987), for Philips, featuring Nara Leao and Roberto Menescal performing the repertoire of their childhood in Copacabana with Portuguese lyrics and Bossa Nova rhythm. I forgot to mention at the introduction, there is a lot of Roberto Menescal here, producing the album, arranging, playing and probably selecting the repertoire with Nara Leao. Check the back cover scan for a picture of Nara Leao and Roberto Menescal at Copacabana beach in the 50’s, they were friends since the age of eleven and this picture was probably taken when they were bellow eighteen. Nara Leao is the best way to start the week in a very nice mood. Tracks include:

01 – Eu Gosto Mais do Rio (How About You) (Lane / Freed / Vrs. Pacífico Mascarenhas) – with excerpts of “Ela É Carioca” (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Morais) and “Garota De Ipanema” (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Morais)
02 – Um Sonho de Verão (Moonlight Serenade) (Miller / Parish / Vrs. Nara Leão)
03 – Garoto Levado (Lullaby Of Birdland) (Shearing / Foster / Vrs. Carlos Colla)
04 – Milagre (Misty) (Garner / Burke / Vrs. Ronaldo Bôscoli)
05 – Bobagens de Amor (Tea For Two) (Youmans / Irving Caesar / Vrs. Paulo Sergio Valle)
06 – Jamais (The Boy Next Door) (Martin / Blane / Vrs. Fátima Guedes)
07 – Além do Arco-íris (Over The Rainbow) (Arlen / Harburg / Vrs. Nara Leão)
08 – Aqui no Mesmo Bar (As Time Goes By) (Hupfeld / Vrs. Edmundo Souto)
09 – Coisas Que Lembram Você (These Foolishing Things) (Stracey / Marvell / Link / Vrs. Aloysio de Oliveira)

Nara Leao – Manha de Liberdade (1966)

Publicado em: Monday, August 06, 2007 by zecalouro

This is a really unusual and worth checking Nara Leao album, recorded immediately after the anthological Show Opiniao concert. Manha de Liberdade has a strong influence of Geni Marcondes, in charge of all the arrangements. He makes different things with instruments, mainly percussion, delivering something that sometimes approaches the sounds of Tropicalia. The repertoire is very influence by Opiniao concert, leaving Bossa Nova standards behind.

This is Nara Leao – Manha de Liberdade (1966), for Philips. Among Nara Leao albums at Loronix, this is the cover I like most, it makes me think Nara Leao as a gladiator with her violao full of flowers. Personnel listing is not available, the arrangements of Geni Marcondes are the exception. Tracks include:

01 – A Banda (Chico Buarque)
02 – Ana Vai Embora (Franklin Dario)
03 – Funeral de um Lavrador (Joao Cabral de Mello Neto / Chico Buarque)
04 – Como Dois e Dois sao Quatro (Denoy de Oliveira / Ferreira Gullar)
05 – Morena dos Olhos D’Agua (Chico Buarque)
06 – Favela (Pandeirinho / Jorginho)
07 – Manha de Liberdade (Marco Antonio / Nelson Lins de Barros)
08 – Menina de Hiroshima (Luiz Carlos Sa / Francisco de Assis)
09 – Ladainha (Capinan – Gilberto Gil)
10 – Cancao do Bicho (Denoy de Oliveira / Geni Marcondes / Ferreira Gullar / Oduvaldo Viana Filho)
11 – Cancao da Primavera (Carlos Elias)
12 – Faz Escuro mas eu Canto (Thiago de Mello / Monsueto)

Nara Leao has a vast discography. I thought most of Nara Leao out of print albums were available at Loronix. Once again I was wrong, there are many Nara Leao albums to show, including some of the ones that I like most, the ones recorded in the 60’s. Hello, Good Evening! Let’s start this lazy Sunday with a beautiful album recorded by Nara Leao for Philips in 1977, a very beautiful initiative with Nara Leao inviting her friends to studio and recording each track with one of them, making duets.

That’s why came to me the idea of making this video sent by Luiz Harding with Nara performing Voce e Eu, a beautiful Carlos Lyra and Vinicius de Moraes composition.

Let’s move forward with something different, a Compacto Duplo, also known as EP, kindly sponsored by Trix from Minas Gerais. Trix found this gem accidentally; he was making a research on rare tracks of Nara Leao for his listening pleasure, when this record came on his several blitz on old vinyl shops in Belo Horizonte. Thanks Trix for making it available to Loronixers.

This is Quincas Berro D’Agua – Trilha Sonora da Peca Teatral (1972), for Philips, featuring Nara Leao, Gereba, MPB-4, Edil Pacheco and Fernado Lona. It will be very nice to hear new tracks from Nara Leao and MPB-4 never released in their solo releases. Tracks include:

01 – Canto De Nanã (Dorival Caymmi) – MPB-4
02 – Beira Mágoa (Fernando Lona / João Augusto) – NARA LEAO

Nara Leao – Meu Samba Encabulado (1983)

That’s right, just came back from a Carnaval parade. I left home without the idea of engage a parade, but when I waking on the beach, the parade approaches in the opposite direction and I was dragged to it. No chance. Today, they do not use percussion instruments, assembling what we call a Bateria. They set-up a truck and install a powerfull sound system. Everything is electric and the musicians go on top of it. This idea came from Bahia and the original name of this adapted truck is Trio Eletico. Nice story that I can tell you in details sometime.

I get back home with that noise shaking my head. Just what I need to make a decision for a female singer with very sweet voice and really popular between Loronixers. I hope you approve it.

This is Nara Leao – Meu Samba Encabulado (1983), for Polygram, a late Nara Leao release, pretty different from what we use to make at Loronix, focused on earlier Nara Leao works. By the way, I was looking at Nara Leao discography, it is huge, several LPs released, mainly in the 70s. Definitively, we should get back the old Nara Leao pace at Loronix before Carnaval. Tracks include:

01 – Meu Cantar (Noca da Portela / Joel Menezes)
02 – 14 Anos (Paulinho da Viola)
03 – Relembrando (Luis Carlos da Vila)
04 – De Mal Pra Pior (Pixinguinha / Hermínio Bello de Carvalho)
05 – Há Música no Ar (Dona Ivone Lara / Delcio Carvalho)
06 – Eu e a Brisa (Johnny Alf)
07 – Como Será o Ano 2000 (Padeirinho)
08 – Isso É Brasil (José Maria de Abreu / Luis Peixoto)
09 – Fundo Azul (Nelson Sargento)
10 – Firuliu (Teca Calazans)
11 – Brasileirinho (João Pernambuco / José Leal)
12 – Quando a Saudade Apertar (Jaime Florence “Meira” / Leonel Azevedo)

This is another anthologic Brazilian show from the 60’s, considered by many one of the most important one. Performed in 1965, Show Opiniao went public during the first year of military dictatorship and was lead by Nara Leao together with Ze Keti and Joao do Vale, perhaps one of the most important manifestations against the new regime.

Meet, Nara Leao, Ze Ketti e Joao do Vale – Show Opiniao (1965), for Philips, directed by Dori Caymmi and recorded live in August, 23rd, 1965. Self-explanatory release, as I said, one of the most important shows from the 60’s and a mandatory item on any Brazilian music collector. Tracks include:

01 – Peba na Pimenta (João do Vale / J. Batista / Rivera)
02 – Pisa na Fulô (João do Vale / E. Pires / Silveira Júnior)
03 – Samba Samba Samba (Zé Keti)
04 – Partido Alto (Tradicional / Rec. Heitor dos Prazeres / Rec. Cartola)
05 – Borandá (Edu Lobo)
06 – Desafio
07 – Missa Agrária (Gianfrancesco Guarnieri / Carlos Lyra)
08 – Carcará (João do Vale / José Cândido)
09 – O Favelado (Zé Keti)
10 – Nega Dina (Zé Keti)
11 – Incelença (Tradicional)
12 – Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol (Sergio Ricardo / Glauber Rocha)
13 – Guantanamera (P. Seeger)
14 – Canção do Homem Só (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
15 – Sina de Caboclo (João do Vale / J. B. de Aquino)

Nara Leao – Vento de Maio (1967)

Publicado em: MONDAY, JULY 24, 2006

zecalouro doesn’t know if comes to attention of all Loronixers, but a poll engine was implemented to gather feedback. The first poll is about the Brazilian divas. It is still time to participate.

By the time zecalouro writes these lines, we have 120 votes. Elis Regina has 27% and it is the natural first place. We have a tough dispute for the second place where Nara Leao and Elizeth Cardoso are with 12% and 14 votes each. You can check this out by your own voting or viewing partial results. No information is collected.

Taking advantage of this poll feedback, zecalouro presents Nara Leao – Vento de Maio (1967), known as one of the best Nara’s LP releases. Arranged by Maestro Gaya with songs by Sidney Miller, Chico Buarque, Ary Barroso and Dorival Caymmi. Nara also shares vocals with Gilberto Gil on track Noites dos Mascarados.

Well, despite the unlucky cover, let’s stay with this nice Nara Leao – Vento de Maio (1967)

Nara Leao – Dez Anos Depois (1971)

Link na Internet Wayback Machine: Nara Leao – Dez Anos Depois (1971)
Publicado em: SATURDAY, JUNE 17, 2006

Nara Leao has a huge importance to Bossa Nova. The ample apartment of her complacent parents in Zona Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Copacabana, Posto 4, became a meeting point for musicians. She didn’t restrict herself as a bossa nova singer and was one of the first artists to engage in the movement later known as “canção de protesto” (protest song), an artistic movement which denounced military dictatorship in Brazil.

She launched the careers of such composers/interpreters as Chico Buarque, Zé Keti, Martinho da Vila, Edu Lobo, Paulinho da Viola, and Fagner. An international performer in spite of her short, uneducated voice, she left an expressive discography even though death caught her by surprise at such a precocious age.Part of this album – Nara Leao – Dez Anos Depois (1971) was recorded in Paris and it is pure Bossa Nova – with a track list that’s full of work by Jobim, Carlos Lyra, Baden Powell, and Vinicius de Moraes.

Maybe zecalouro will find here at Loronix many friends that never had the opportunity of listening to Nara’s beautiful voice and interpretation. This album, particularly, is very good with well known tracks that you surely provide good entertainment.

Nara Leao, O Canto Livre de Nara (1965) is the second release of this great Brazilian singer that had an important role on Bossa Nova creation and therefore making linkage to other cultural movements and launching new composers.

This LP is the original out of print release from 1965 with participation of Dorival Caymmi and Luis Eça. Universal has this album on a boxset, which includes two additional tracks sung in Spanish.
