Hello, good evening! This is considered by many the best album released by Nilo Sérgio, an important figure in Brazilian popular music. Singer and composer, Nilo Sergio made history as the creator of an independent record label that was always ahead of its time, the legendary Musidisc. This really nice record company released important artists; Trio Surdina is a perfect example. Musidisc was also the record label that started and frequently used artists from other labels hidden by fake names and even artists under contract with Musidisc using English names as a marketing strategy, such like Bob Fleming, the fake name used by Moacyr Silva and Zito Righi to release several blockbusters at Musidisc. Let’s see.

This is Nilo Sergio, Sua Orquestra e Vozes – Isto e Romance (1962), for Musidisc, featuring the not credited participation of Ed Lincoln as an organist and probably a maestro in charge of instrumental and voice arrangements. I had a nice week and I hope we will have together a special weekend with our family and friends. I’m leaving and stay tuned for another Brazilian music weekend, probably a “Samba Saturday”, which is something still requested by many friends. Tracks include:

01 – Romantic Partners (Nilo Sergio)

Nilo Sergio - Datas Felizes (1953)

Hello, good evening! Christmas is coming really fast this year and such like last year; Loronixers are sending their Christmas albums to our community. Here we go on another one, not exactly a Christmas album, but a all-in-one celebration album to other dates. Let’s see.

This is Nilo Sergio, As Estrelas & Leo Peracchi e Sua Orquestra – Datas Felizes (1953), for Musidisc, courtesy Mauro R.V. the great Para Dancar contributor now delivering not only a given Christmas album, but the first Musidisc LP as M-001. Thanks for this one, Mauro. Datas Felizes features well-known Christmas songs and Nilo Sergio compositions, released for the first time with this album. Tracks include:

01 – Natal (Nilo Sergio)

Here we go on another 78rpm record, which is probably the most interest so far. This is Nilo Sergio, Musidisc owner, before creating Musidisc on his singer career. Nilo Sergio sings very well and in the old baritone style voice backed by Maestro Severino Araujo e Sua Orquestra Tabajara.

This is Nilo Sergio – 78rpm | 16085 (1949), for Continental, featuring Cancao de Aniversario, which is the song used on Brazilian birthday celebrations before the adoption of Parabens Pra Voce, based on Happy Birthday to You written by the American sisters Patty Hill and Mildred J. Hill in 1893. Cancao de Aniversario worth the entire record, Maestro Severino Araujo delivers a military accompaniment that makes me laugh when I hear this tune. Tracks include:

01 – Cancao de Aniversario (Jose Maria de Abreu / Alberto Ribeiro)
02 – Falta-me Alguem (Pedro Caetano / Claudionor Cruz)

Hello, Good Evening! Let’s start this Monday, how can I say, “classy”, showing an album issued by the legendary record label Nilser, Musidisc subsidiary. Nilser was Nilo Sergio creation for the “De Luxe” albums, featuring nice and really unique covers with that circular opening that reveals part of a beautiful picture inside. It is impossible to show via Internet, but Nilser covers do not bend easily, they are made from a very tough material. Let’s see what Nilo Sergio delivers on his first solo LP at Loronix.

This is Nilo Sergio – Danca e Romance (1962), for Nilser. Some websites credit Nilo Sergio Sua Orquestra e Vozes as the main performer of Danca e Romance, however, I could not find a single reference written on any piece of this album. Do not let the title “Danca e Romance” cheats you, this album has some very nice Samba songs performed by a male singer, probably Pedrinho Rodrigues, although some friends credit crooner participation as Orlan Divo. Anyway, you will have now the chance to check this out, hearing this nice piece. Tracks include:

01 – Vai Menina (Nilo Sergio)
02 – Quiereme Mucho (Gonzalo Roig)
03 – Ranchero (Nilo Sergio)
04 – I’ve Got You Under My Skin (Cole Porter)
05 – Moon River (J. Mercer / Henry Mancini)
06 – Lolita Ya Ya (Harris / Riddle)
07 – Hymne à L’amour (Edith Piaf / Marguerite Monnot)
08 – Tonight (S. Sondheim / L. Bernstein)
09 – Dos Perdidos (Nilo Sergio)
10 – El Manisero (Moisés Simons)
11 – Em Las Vegas (Nilo Sergio)
12 – I Could Have Danced All Night (A. J. Lerner / F. Loewe)

Não tinha esse disco. Porém, graças aos amigos Andreas e Martoni, ele agora está disponível na Rádio Forma e Elenco.

This is a hard to find LP released by Musidisc in 1966 featuring Ed Lincoln, Orlann Divo and Nilo Sergio. Nilo Sergio – even appearing at the third name – is Musidisc owner.

In spite of it, Nilo Sergio had to work hard with four compositions. Orlandivo and Ed Lincoln also give four compositions each. Tracks include:

01 – Quero Amar (Ed Lincoln)
02 – Zezinho (Orlann Divo)
03 – Romantic Partners (Nilo Sergio)
04 – Pra Que? (Ed Lincoln)
05 – Brincando de Samba (Orlann Divo)
06 – Espiral (Nilo Sergio)
07 – Tristeza (Ed Lincoln)
08 – Saudade, Solidao pra Mim (Orlann Divo)
09 – Cancao dos Vagabundos (Nilo Sergio)
10 – A Rosa (Ed Lincoln)
