tcisalpino is a special contributor, he works on a very important segment, which is the upgrade of essential posts. tcisalpino recently make our day with his last Joao Donato – The New Sound of Brazil | Piano of Joao Donato (1965). Today he comes again with a very popular and solid album that even zecalouro did not remember. Thanks tcisalpino for providing the best possible quality to another mandatory upgrade.

This is Orlandivo – Orlandivo (1977), for Copacabana, released in the middle of the Saturday Night Fever discotheque boom, a weird time to Brazilian popular music, when things such like Bossa Nova was only a vague and distant event, in spite of having this peak only a decade before. Perhaps nobody gave attention to this album by the release time and this is a wonderful demonstration on how to make dancing music with a very good quality.

Joao Donato is in charge of arrangements, delivering also his undisputed groovy piano playing on Fender Rhodes, organ, piano and clavinet. Additionally, Alex Malheiros and Ivan Conti from Azymuth were also in this session, everything detailed at personnel listing, just before tracks. Tracks include:

This is a hard to find LP released by Musidisc in 1966 featuring Ed Lincoln, Orlann Divo and Nilo Sergio. Nilo Sergio – even appearing at the third name – is Musidisc owner.

In spite of it, Nilo Sergio had to work hard with four compositions. Orlandivo and Ed Lincoln also give four compositions each. Tracks include:

01 – Quero Amar (Ed Lincoln)
02 – Zezinho (Orlann Divo)
03 – Romantic Partners (Nilo Sergio)
04 – Pra Que? (Ed Lincoln)
05 – Brincando de Samba (Orlann Divo)
06 – Espiral (Nilo Sergio)
07 – Tristeza (Ed Lincoln)
08 – Saudade, Solidao pra Mim (Orlann Divo)
09 – Cancao dos Vagabundos (Nilo Sergio)
10 – A Rosa (Ed Lincoln)
11 – Afim de Voce (Orlann Divo)
12 – Marias de Portugal (Nilo Sergio)

.

Orlann Divo – A Chave do Sucesso (1962)

Orlann Divo, A Chave do Sucesso (1962), debut LP with Ed Lincoln (organ, piano), Waltel Branco (guitar), Rubens Bassini (percussion) and Fernando Bancario (drums).

zecalouro does not known what to write about this LP and the acclaimed Orlann Divo, perhaps Loronixers are already used to Orlann Divo. Anyway, if there is something zecalouro is quite sure is that these guys had a lot of fun in 1962 on this set. I heard that these songs were played 24 hours a day, even outside Brazil.

There is a story zecalouro found on a Orlann Divo interview for WhatMusic. zecalouro has a lot of fun with these stories, as follows:

Well there’s a funny story about Jorge Ben. One day I was playing at Bottles on the Beco das Garrafas and the owner of the Plaza Club Oliveira Filho, came up to me and said Orlann that’s a kid outside who says he’s written some songs for you. I was quite curious so I went out and there was this kid you know, Jorge Ben, very very young and he took the guitar and started playing Por Causa de Voxe and Mas Que Nada, you know woth that same singing through the nose style; singing voh-shay instead of voh-say. Well I was flattered but I thought they were fantastic and said Kid you gotta record them yourself. He said Oh no MR Divo I wrote these songs for you, Im not a singer! And I said hey kid Look at em I wasn’t a singer either and look at me [laughs]! Some while later I heard that Armando Pittiliginia from Philips had signed him up and the next thing you know Mas Que Nada is selling millions all around the world! But, in truth I had just recorded my frist LP and I didn’t’ think I could take his songs and not record them. But he found his own voice and that’s great. He ended up covering one of my songs!

Orlann Divo – Orlann Divo (1963)

On a recent post, zecalouro was explaining how everybody, even with some artistical issues that would collapse any non-gifted musician like him, adored Ed Lincoln.

With Orlandivo, zecalouro has this same weird felling. Making an exercise and breaking apart an Orlandivo record in categories, such like: lyrics, harmony, arrangements, etc. probably, his music would be underrated.

However, if you relax and listen without these “technical” judgments, Orlandivo is amazing. zecalouro presents here his second career album, on the cover as Orlann Divo. It’s a really great LP. It seams that was recorded in just one day, since it is very relaxed and expansive.

Ed Lincoln is in charge of the organ, making miracles, sounding different and exhausting that old stuff capability. Waltel Branco is in charge of guitar.

Orlann Divo Debut EP from Musidisc with only four tracks Samba toff – Amor vai e vem – Vem pro samba – Dias de verão (1961).

This is the first EP zecalouro post at Loronix. He could not resist. Maybe it is something for completionists, since shows a pretty early Orlann Divo.
