Gemini V Mexico

Hello, good evening! The technology I have been putting in place to support Loronix is invisible. Loronix runs at Google Inc. Blogger technology, which is identified by the blogspot.com domain. However, several features runs out of blogger, such like Loronix Find It, a MySQL / PHP database hosted at zecalouro.com domain, videos, CBox and now Loronix Preview Center. These services make Loronix a little bit different from the other websites, and we cannot live without. We are facing outages on these external services this weekend and I have been working hard with my hosting provider to fix it.

I don’t have idea on how big is this outage. I think it is only affecting Brazilian or South American pipes to US. If you reach Loronix from other regions or continents, please, let me know if you are facing these problems, so I can report better and have this situation fixed sooner. Thanks for your attention.

This is Os Bossa Tres, Leny Andrade & Pery Ribeiro – Gemini V en Mexico | Grabado ao Vivo! (1967), for Odeon, courtesy of Caetano Rodrigues and supposed to be released on our 2 million hits celebration, but postponed. It is really a mandatory repost Caetano provides us, with upgrades on vinyl transfer and the increasing popular FLAC format. Gemini 5 en Mexico was recorded live and it is a very hard to find album, never released in CD. Luiz Carlos Vinhas from Os Bossa Tres is in charge of arrangements, being also producer. Tracks include:

Pery Ribeiro - Luiz Eca - Pra Tanto Viver (1986)

Pery Ribeiro - Luiz Eca - Pra Tanto Viver (1986)-BACK

I agree with cvllos when he says this is one of the top ten albums available at Loronix and deserve a better approach. That’s what I’m doing write now, improving each aspect of this fantastic record. FLAC files are now available, hi-res cover scans from front and back cover are being included, the additional info requested last year is now available with complete personnel listing and that sad problem with track 12 – Cancao que Morre no Ar is over. I agree that classics like this one deserves a reposting, however, these albums are really hard to find in an affordable price for my resources. Anyway, it does not matter, I had a great time hearing this album today and I’m sure you will have a high quality listening experience here. Let’s see.

This is Pery Ribeiro | Luiz Eca – Pra Tanto Viver (1986), for Continental. Pery Ribeiro and Luiz Eca were really connected to each other at this great session. I’m also sure this is the best Pery Ribeiro album I have heard and probably one of the best Luiz Eca performances on recording. Take this album as a very special record; I think it never had a CD reissue, which is something hard to believe. Tracks include:

Personnel

Pery Ribeiro is truly a Bossa Nova legend. He was the first to record the legendary song Garota de Ipanema from Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes. Pery Ribeiro is the son of Dalva de Oliveira and Herivelto Martins, having a very early start as an artist, taking part on a Walt Disney Movie in 1949, Berlim na Batucada. His first albums are essential Bossa Nova items on every serious collector’s shelf. It is always a pleasure to show Pery Ribeiro. Let’s see.

This is Pery Ribeiro – Brasileirissimas (1981), for Philips, featuring Pery Ribeiro performing selected successful radio cuts from the early 80’s. I found this album abandoned at my mother’s home a couple of weeks ago and I had to manage a new problem to take it, Mom got a turntable and is now fascinated to play her vinyl. This should make the day of Caetano Rodrigues, Patricia Prado, bossanovadreamer, Mr. H, Loronixers and everybody who patiently waited for this release, no more a missing piece. I’m glad to have now a near mint vinyl, taken from a store on that “everything is One Real” shelf. Caetano strongly recommends this late Pery Ribeiro LP, although I’m not knowledgeable on his discography, I had a nice time hearing it. Let’s see what we have here.

This is Pery Ribeiro – Bronzes e Cristais (1976), for Odeon, truly, one of the best Pery Ribeiro LPs from his pos-Bossa Nova age. Arranged by Maestro Gaya and Eduardo Souto Neto, Bronzes e Cristais also features renowned musicians such as Edson Frederico, Laercio de Freitas, Wilson das Neves, Geraldo Vespar, among others. This is one of the longest LPs I have ever seen with 42 minutes of music. Anyway, self-explanatory release that several friends were waiting. Tracks include:

Pery Ribeiro – Heranca (1973)

Publicado em: Friday, May 25, 2007 by zecalouro

It is decided and I took a lot of time to make it. Some friend advice was necessary and I hope this is the right choice, in spite of being the first time a entire day is dedicated to Brazilian singers, Luiz Roberto from os Cariocas, Edu Lobo and now Pery Ribeiro, the only artist shown with chronological criteria at Loronix, from the beginning to the end. The next Pery Ribeiro should be Bronzes e Cristais, considered one of his best albums. Unfortunately, still a missing piece.

This is Pery Ribeiro – Heranca (1973), for Odeon, featuring arrangements provided by Maestro J. T. Meirelles, orchestra arrangements by Maestro Gaya (track 03) and Francis Hime (track 11). Heranca also brings something unique, Se as Estrelas Falassem, the first Elizeth Cardoso composition I have ever seen recorded. Tracks include:

01 – Caminhemos (Herivelto Martins)
02 – Esperteza (Zé do Maranhão)
03 – Herança (Francis Hime / Paulo César Pinheiro)
04 – Segredo (Herivelto Martins / Marino Pinto)
05 – Se Pelo Menos Você Fosse Minha (Roberto Menescal / Paulinho Tapajós)
06 – Conclusão (Antônio Carlos Marques / Jocafi / Renato Lobo)

Edu Lobo, Johnny Alf, Taiguara e Pery Ribeiro – Juntos! (1988)

Here we go again with another Caetano Rodrigues contribution, this time different, since Caetano gave this record as a gift on my last trip to Sao Paulo. Thanks Caetano. However, simplicity is not a word on Caetano’s dictionary. Caetano said to let it ready and wait for further instructions. That’s what I did, like a soldier and the instructions had just arrived here: release at 1 Million Hits day. Very wise of Caetano, 5 artists together on a single album is really a celebration.

This is Juntos! (1988), for Phonodisc, featuring Edu Lobo, Johnny Alf, Taiguara, Pery Ribeiro and Sergio Ricardo. I just spoke with Caetano about Juntos! and we agreed that some tracks were released only at this album and never were made available on regular releases by these artists. Any help to realize which are the songs never released on regular albums is really appreciated. Tracks include:

01 – O Nosso Olhar – SERGIO RICARDO
02 – Uma Vez um Caso – EDU LOBO
03 – O Amor da Justica – TAIGUARA
04 – Chega de Saudade – PERY RIBEIRO
05 – Orgulho de Bom Sambista – JOHNNY ALF
06 – Valsinha – PERY RIBEIRO
07 – Gingando Dobrado – EDU LOBO
08 – Paz de um Grande Amor – JOHNNY ALF
09 – Guarania Guarani – TAIGUARA
10 – Do Lago a Cachoeira – SERGIO RICARDO

I saw today at Bossa On-line from the mighty t_ito an album that I did not know the existence. I’m inviting Loronixers to check out there, it is an EP of a group called Trio Sam-Bossa, featuring Geraldo Cunha (guitar), Pery Ribeiro (flute) and Wilson Miranda (sax). It is not necessary to say that we are tracking down this EP and if someone can make it as a contribution, we will be really pleased. Trio Sam-Bossa reminds me Pery Ribeiro…

This is Pery Ribeiro – Pery Ribeiro (1971), for Odeon. Reviewers says that Pery Ribeiro discography has two phases, the Bossa Nova phase that ends with Encontro – Pery Ribeiro + Bossa 3 (1966) and the MPB phase starting with this album in 1971. I never knew why Pery Ribeiro made a hiatus of five years on recordings; anyway, this is the first Pery Ribeiro LP from this second phase at Loronix. Personnel is unknown with the exception of Maestro Lindolfo Gaya, credited as Musical Director at the back cover. Tracks include:

01 – Coisas (Taiguara)
02 – Agora (Ivan Lins / Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza)
03 – O Que Faço Pra Esquecer (Silvio César)
04 – Menina dos Olhos Tristes (Carlos Lacerda / Jocafi)
05 – Canção do Nosso Amor (Silveira / Dalton Medeiros)
06 – O Herói (Silvio César)
07 – Dia de Vitória (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
08 – Pra Você (Silvio César)
09 – Canto Puro Amor (Tito Madi)
10 – Vida Ruim (Catulo de Paula)
11 – É Só Esperar (Eduardo Souto Neto / Geraldo Carneiro)

The early Pery Ribeiro albums are really incredible. I remember when the first one was posted, Pery Ribeiro – Eu Gosto da Vida (1961), for my surprise it was not included on some serious discographies at the Internet. By that time I could understand how popular was Pery Ribeiro and how fans and collectors all around the world tracks down his earlier works. Each Pery Ribeiro post at Loronix is successful, generating nice discussions.

This is Pery Ribeiro – Pery (1965), for Odeon, featuring orchestra and arrangements by Maestro Lyrio Panicalli. Open and honestly, I had no hope to find this LP, requested by many Loronixers and I was amazed to know that Caetano has it. I’m happy to address all the request made by several friends, understanding now why people urge to hear this album, it is truly amazing. Besides the great arrangements from Maestro Lyrio Panicalli, musicians on the set are not credit, except the last track, Carinhoso, featuring Eumir Deodato (piano), Gabriel (bass), Wilson das Neves (drums), Geraldo Vespar (guitar) and Mauricio Einhorn (harmonica). Tracks include:

01 – Deus Brasileiro (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
02 – João Valentão (Dorival Caymmi)
03 – Vem (Marcos Valle / Luis Fernando Freire)
04 – Maria Moita (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
05 – Primavera (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
06 – Gabriela (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
07 – Dora (Dorival Caymmi)
08 – Assim É a Bahia (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
09 – Preciso Aprender a Ser Só (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
10 – Samba de Verão (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
11 – Demais (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira)

Pery Ribeiro. That’s right. If I search my mailbox for the sentence “do not forget Pery Muito Mais Bossa”, the results are many. I lost an HD a couple of days ago. When I spoke with a friend about the lost, the first thing he said, lips shaking, was: “Is Pery Muito Mais Bossa lost?”. So, let’s make it.

This is Pery Ribeiro – Pery Muito Mais Bossa (1964), for Odeon, one of the most celebrated albums from Pery Ribeiro earlier years. Unfortunately and somehow interesting, the information available about this album personnel and set details are spare and I need the help of Loronixers on additional info about it. Tracks include:

01 – Berimbau (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Morena Arpoador (Luis Bonfá / Maria Helena Toledo)
03 – Baiãozinho (Eumir Deodato)
04 – Vai de Vez (Luis Fernando Freire / Roberto Menescal)
05 – Menininha Rua Augusta (Geraldo Cunha / Pery Ribeiro)
06 – Feio Não É Bonito (Carlos Lyra / Gianfrancesco Guarnieri)
07 – Samba de Roda (Luis Bonfá / Maria Helena Toledo)
08 – Moça da Praia (Luis Fernando Freire / Roberto Menescal)
09 – Você (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
10 – Canto Negro (Durval Ferreira / Luis Fernando Freire)
11 – Pensei Errei (Tito Madi)
12 – Ilha Comprida (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)

O disco estava “com defeito“, mas graças ao amigo Sapobemba ele foi corrigido e pode ser buscado no Um que Tenha.

Here is the close of Leny Andrade and Pery Ribeiro Gemini Trilogy with the third and last release, Leny Andrade e Pery Ribeiro – Gemini Cinco Anos Depois (1972), for Odeon. Remember that the first was Gemini V (1965) followed by the rare Gemini V en Mexico (1967).

When Gemini V en Mexico was release, Trix wrote a comment saying that the missing piece was Gemini 5 Anos Depois. Caetano Rodrigues read Trix comment and without saying so sent me this record. Thanks Caetano and thanks Trix for remembering the last Gemini. Bossa Tres is not backing up Leny Andrade and Pery Ribeiro as they were in the last ones and I could not search who is talking Bossa Tres role at this release.

Do not miss at the download package high-resolution versions of front and back cover from Juarez Machado, a well-known artist in the 70’s and 80’s that people in Brazil will easily identify his style just looking at this beautiful cover. Tracks include:

01 – Águas de Março (Tom Jobim)
02 – “Homenagem a Milton Nascimento” — Cais (Milton Nascimento / Ronaldo Bastos) — Canto Latino (Milton Nascimento / Ruy Guerra) — Morro Velho (Milton Nascimento) — Cravo e Canela (Milton Nascimento / Ronaldo Bastos) — Travessia (Milton Nascimento / Fernando Brant) — O Trem Azul (Lô Borges / Ronaldo Bastos) — Vera Cruz (Milton Nascimento / Márcio Borges)
03 – Como Dois e Dois (Caetano Veloso)
04 – Ave Maria no Morro (Herivelto Martins) — Bachianas Brasileiras N º 5 (Villa-Lobos)
05 – Que Bandeira (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle / Mariozinho Rocha)

08 – La Mentira (Álvaro Carrillo)

Thanks Caetano for Leny Andrade e Pery Ribeiro – Gemini Cinco Anos Depois (1972).

The Bossanovadreamer just said that I could not forget to release this LP today, since it was promised yesterday and many Pery Ribeiro’s fans would be really disappointed if did not make it today. So, here it is, Pery Ribeiro – Pery e Todo Bossa (1963), for Odeon.

I’m surprised that Pery has so many fans at Loronix. We need to check one thing, on an interview for Jo Soares a couple of months ago, Pery Ribeiro said that he was the first to record the anthological song Garota de Ipanema, question: is this Garota de Ipanema the first recording or there is another previous one released on single, EP or 78 rpm? Our wonderful Loronix community should come with an answer in a matter of seconds. Tracks include:

01 – Evolução (Geraldo Cunha / Pery Ribeiro)
02 – Me Lembro Vagamente (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
03 – Ah Se Eu Pudesse (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)

06 – Bossa na Praia (Geraldo Cunha / Pery Ribeiro)
07 – Garota de Ipanema (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
08 – O Que Eu Gosto de Você (Silvio César)
09 – Nós e o Mar (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
10 – Canção de Fim de Tarde (Tereza Souza / Walter Santos)
11 – Só Sei (Tito Madi)

After some emails changed with our my new Loronixer friend Jim from USA – obviously we were talking about Loronix – an important issue came to us; Loronix needs more Pery Ribeiro releases, Pery is such a great artist that deserves his first solo LP, not only the previous posts with participations with Bossa Tres and that EP with Milton Banana Trio. All great, but nobody could see so far Pery solo.

This post is the response and since we will start with Pery Ribeiro solo releases, let’s make it with his debut, Pery Ribeiro – Eu Gosto da Vida (1961) for Odeon.

The AMG bios available below considers Pery Ribeiro debut LP as Pery Ribeiro – Pery Ribeiro e Seu Mundo de Cancoes Romanticas (1962) for Odeon – MOFB 3272. Correct if I’m wrong when saying that this release is Pery debut LP.

01 – Inteirinha (Luis Vieira)
02 – Três Sorrisos (Mário Lago / Chocolate)
03 – Se Adormeço (Herivelto Martins / David Nasser)
04 – Manhã de Carnaval (Luis Bonfá / Antônio Maria)
05 – Lamento da Lavadeira (Monsueto / Nilo Chagas / João Violão)
06 – Samba do Orfeu (Luis Bonfá)
07 – Eu Gosto da Vida (Hianto de Almeida / Chico Anísio)
08 – Todinha (Luis Vieira)
09 – Noite Chuvosa (Fernando César / João Leal Brito “britinho”)
10 – Amorella (Lindolfo Gaya / Romeo Nunes)
11 – Vou Me Aposentar do Meu Amor (Ricardo Galeno / Paulo Tito)
12 – Até Quando (Marino Pinto / Vadico)

AMG Bio

A key singer of the bossa nova, having launched “Garota de Ipanema,” Pery Ribeiro, son of the composer Herivelto Martins and of the singer Dalva de Oliveira, started early in his artistic career by providing singing and voices in Walt Disney animated movies. In 1944, he acted in the film Berlim na Batucada, by Luís de Barros. His debut on radio was in 1959, on Paulo Gracindo’s show at Rádio Nacional, where he took his stage name Pery Ribeiro on suggestion of his godfather César de Alencar. In 1960, Ribeiro had his first song, “Não Devo Insistir” (written with Dora Lopes), recorded by Dalva de Oliveira. Ribeiro recorded his first single in the same year. In 1961, he recorded the bossa nova classics “Manhã de Carnaval” and “Samba de Orfeu” (both by Luís Bonfá/Antônio Maria) and “Barquinho” (Roberto Menescal/Ronaldo Bôscoli), among others. The first LP came in 1962, Pery Ribeiro e Seu Mundo de Canções Românticas, backed by Luís Bonfá on the guitar. In the next year, Pery é Todo Bossa had an enormous success with the first recording of “Garota de Ipanema” (Tom Jobim/Vinícius de Moraes), along with other bossa nova classics like “Me Lembro Vagamente,” “Nós e o Mar,” “Ah! Se eu Pudesse,” and “Rio” (all by Roberto Menescal/Ronaldo Bôscoli) and originals.

In 1964, Ribeiro’s LP Pery Muito Mais Bossa brought “Berimbau” (Baden Powell/Vinícius de Moraes), “Baiãozinho” (Eumir Deodato), “Feio Não é Bonito” (Carlos Lyra/Gianfrancesco Guarnieri), and “Você” (Roberto Menescal/Ronaldo Bôscoli). In the next year, he formed with Leny Andrade and the Bossa 3 the group Gemini V, which performed with success at the Porão 73 club and at the Princesa Isabel theater (“Rio”), recording live the LP Gemini V/Show na Boate Porão 73/Leny Andrade, Pery Ribeiro e Bossa Três. In 1967, he had a successful six-month season in Mexico with the Gemini V. In 1966, Ribeiro went to the U.S. where he joined the Bossa Rio, (Sérgio Mendes, Gracinha Leporace, Osmar Milito, Manfredo Fest, Otávio Bailly, and Ronnie Mesquita), performing in several American cities. Returning to Rio in 1971, Ribeiro recorded with Leny Andrade the LP Gemini Cinco Anos Depois. Again in Mexico in 1974, he performed in Acapulco with Eliana Pittman and Herivelto Martins. In 1986, he recorded with Luís Eça the LP Pra Tanto Viver. Ribeiro starred in a show at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro, in which his father Herivelto Martins was paid tribute and awarded with the Shell Prize.

Pery Ribeiro is another missing point at Loronix. Pery was the first artist to record Garota de Ipanema. Son of Herivelto Martins and Dalva de Olieira. Pery formed with Leny Andrade and Bossa Tres the group Gemini V, joined Bossa Rio with Sérgio Mendes, Gracinha Leporace, Osmar Milito, Manfredo Fest, Otávio Bailly, and Ronnie Mesquita and had an active international career.

zecalouro starts Pery Ribeiro at Loronix showing a LP considered an essential to any serious Bossa Nova collector, Pery Ribeiro + Bossa 3 – Encontro (1966).
