Hello, good evening! Maybe I am wrong as usual, but I think this record will surprise many friends. I never heard about the existence of a second volume of the anthological Som Ambiente, recorded by Marcos Valle and Azymuth in 1972. And this is what both volumes have in common since the concept is totally different. Instead of not credited artists, this surprising duo has loud and clear credits, including lots of information available at the back cover (some of them very hard to believe) and the participation of Durval Ferreira on two tracks, which is also the producer director. Let’s see.

This is Avena de Castro & Joao Peixoto Primo – Avena e Primo | Som Ambiente Vol 2 (1975), featuring for the first time at Loronix the sitar player Avena de Castro and the well-known pianist and organist Primo. Avena’s sitar sounds like an electric guitar, different from the sound of sitar made popular by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar in the 1960’s, which was my expectation before taking Som Ambiente Vol 2 for a first spin. A few Google searches were enough to tell me that Avena de Castro started as a classical musician and later embraced popular music. He is also considered the first and only sitar player in Brazilian popular music. Tracks include:

Hello, Good Evening! This is the start of the special posts specially selected to our 1st Loronix year celebration, actually, this is just the warm-up day, the pearls are flying from Sao Paulo to Rio on a small and very special package prepared by Caetano Rodrigues in just one day. I always like to remember everybody how Caetano Rodrigues is so important to Loronix and to the Music from Brazil. There will be a special post dedicated to Caetano Rodrigues, which is a confidential surprise, next Saturday. He is the man of the century and deserves all our appreciation and respect.

Let’s start this warm-up day with instrumental music, my favorite music and probably the music that better translates Loronix. The instrumental music is unique since it does not depend on preferences on singing styles and lyrics languages; it is universal and easily introduced and appreciated worldwide. I think I could not make it better than selecting Samba Jazz, which is the favorite style of Loronixers, according with our survey.

This is Primo Trio – Primo Trio (1965), for Musidisc, the first record of the legendary pianist of Brazil South Region Primo released at 12″ format. This is pretty self-explanatory and never released before at Loronix, awesome Samba Jazz music with the classical piano, bass and drums formation. I hope you really enjoy this first post of our celebration. Tracks include:

Just to announce that rain is falling in Rio de Janeiro and the dry times are over. zeca is sleeping and one of the thinks that he likes most is to take a rain bath, he looks like a punk after the rain. Maybe tomorrow I will make it.

Anyway, it is perfect when we have a contributor that is also a journalist. Contributions come with information, well written, making work easy. It is just a matter of zecalourize (makes the text on zecalouro’s style) the text and provides the information needed to Loronixers. However, I have also a great pleasure to find information by myself and really like such challenges, but in a rush time such like this week, contributions like this one from the great Marcello Campos are really handy.

This is Primo e Seu Conjunto – Selecao Dancante (1957), for Mocambo. This is the legendary Primo, well known to us by his later recordings Sambossa (1965), Pinta o Sete (1966) and the ones as Primo Quintet. Selecao Dancante is Primo debut LP, a very rare release, gently provided by Marcello Campos. Primo also lead the legendary Conjunto Flamingo, available at Loronix by Caetano Rodrigues. Thanks Marcello for this nice record that I’m sure it is only available for a few privileged friends. Tracks include:

It is very hard to decide what music to post each day among the several that Caetano sent to Loronixers. Caetano is nice, he collaborates with a great enthusiasm each day, helping to make the right choices, giving recommendations and adding information that you cannot find anyware. I use to “plan” the day with Caetano with daily phone calls. Today, I did not call, it is Friday. I’m not worried to make the wrong choices all Caetanos contributions are amazing. However, I think this is something of great responsibility and part of the fun is to share with Caetano what I think about the LPs I heard during the day and get the same feedback from him. This is another Caetano’s release, thanks a million friend!

This is Conjunto Flamingo – Apresentamos o Conjunto Flamingo (1962), for Audio Fidelity, the first, out of three LPs released by this unique band. I never thought I would hear this LP, this cover with Conjunto Flamingo members such like a bunch of waiters waiting for the wedding start always fascinates me. The legendary Primo, the same artist that everybody knows at Loronix with the LPs Sambossa and Primo Pinta o Sete is Conjunto Flamingo’s leader. Personnel listing is just bellow. Tracks include:

Rubem Grumman
