Hello, good evening! I had today my great nephew Pedro with me throughout the whole preparation process of this album. We made everything together, including the vinyl washing, transfer, cover scanning, processing and the Google searches to gather information about. Pedro was amazed with the fact this album was from 1956, which is something hard to believe for such a young person. He got really amazed with the results, the 10-inch format and even collaborated with the research, bringing us relevant music facts from 1956, as follows:

15/mar – Birth of Oswaldo Montenegro (Brazilian singer and composer).
15/mar – First run of My Fair Lady musical, New York, US.
28/mar – Birth of Zizi Possi (Brazilian singer).
15/jun – John Lennon is introduced to Paul McCartney.
05/nov – Passing of Art Tatum (American pianist).
14/Nov – Birth of Almir Satter (Brazilian singer, composer and instrumentalist).

…and he could also gather Ribamar birth in 09-dec-1919 and his passing, 06-set-1987. Thanks Pedro. Let’s see.

This is Ribamar – Dancando com Ribamar e Seu Conjunto (1956), for Columbia, featuring the first LP recorded by Ribamar and his third album available at Loronix, which is a very small amount. Ribamar was a very important musician and composer. He made a very famous duo with the Tito Madi, being also a frequent composition partner of Dolores Duran. Dancando com Ribamar e Seu Conjunto features Ribamar playing his first instrument, the accordion. Such like many other accordion players, Ribamar adopted the piano as soon the bossa nova was birth. The repertoire features a blending of Brazilian and international tunes; including two compositions written by Trio Surdina members, Chiquinho do Acordeon, Fafa Lemos and the legendary Garoto. Musicians were not credited by Columbia. Tracks include.

Here we go on the second album released at Loronix recorded by this really interesting label, SPOT, a Copacabana subsidiary that released less than ten titles in the 60’s, being today disputed item of Bossa Nova collectors. SPOT albums features well-known and not credited musicians, such as the first one released at Loronix, Conjunto Castelinho – Os Donos da Bossa (1964), which is in fact Eumir Deodato e Os Catedraticos. Let’s see this one.

This is Quinteto Romantico – Bastante Intimo (no date), for SPOT, featuring non-credited musicians or a non-credited group, performing Brazilian standards in the Para Dancar style. Little I know about this album and I urge Loronixers to get along to understand what is behind it. Tracks include:

01 – A Noite do Meu Bem (Dolores Duran)
02 – Segredo (Herivelto Martins / Marino Pinto) Nunca (Lupicínio Rodrigues)
03 – Duas Contas (Garoto) Dó-ré-mi (Fernando César)
04 – Alguém Como Tu (José Maria de Abreu / Jair Amorim) Não Tem Solução (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle)
05 – Cansei de Ilusões (Tito Madi) Molambo (Jaime Florence “Meira” / Augusto Mesquita)
06 – Canção de Amor (Elano de Paula / Chocolate) Canção da Volta (Ismael Netto / Antônio Maria)
07 – Não Tenho Você (Paulo Marques / Ari Monteiro) Se Você Se Importasse (Peterpan)
08 – Folhas Mortas (Ary Barroso) Prece (Vadico / Marino Pinto)
09 – Ninguém Me Ama (Fernando Lobo / Antônio Maria) Se Eu Morrese Amanhã (Antônio Maria)
10 – Foi a Noite (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça) Neste Mesmo Lugar (Klécius Caldas / Armando Cavalcanti)

.

Esse disco é, na realidade, uma reedição de um disco do Ribamar que já foi publicado aqui nos Órfãos do Loronix.

Waleska – Na Fossa (1971)

I have two copies of this album, vinyl, second issue by SOM, a Copacabana subsidiary. Every time I check an old vinyl shop in Rio, this album is there, not one copy, two or three. I think this is the reason for being neglected by me. I should confess that I never took it for a hearing and I lost a lot of time. This album is really good and it is now time to show it to Loronixers. Let’s see what happens.

This is Waleska – Na Fossa (1951), for Copacabana (1971), featuring a singer never shown to Loronixers with accompaniment of Ribamar (piano) and the legendary Moacyr Silva (sax tenor), also in charge of production. Waleska was the owner of the nightclub Fossa and probably, one of the most frequent performes and probably the most important singer of the Fossa style. Ribamar and Moacyr Silva deliver a nice support to Waleska, especially Moacyr Silva with nice sax tenor improvisations. I never had the chance to hear Moacyr Silva performing live. Na Fossa is a really worth checking album, I recommend. Tracks include:

01 – Minha Noite de Fossa (Elizabeth)
02 – Fim de Caso (Dolores Duran) Molambo (Jaime Florence “Meira” / Augusto Mesquita)
03 – Chuvas de Verão (Fernando Lobo)
04 – Noite de Paz (Dolores Duran) Solidão (Dolores Duran)
05 – Pequenos Erros Meus (Rildo Hora / Gracindo Jr.)
06 – Ternura Antiga (Ribamar (1) / Dolores Duran)
07 – A Fossa (Elizabeth / Fernando César)
08 – Por Você (Nonato Buzar / Sergio Bittencourt)
09 – Pra Você (Silvio César)
10 – Saia do Caminho (Custódio Mesquita / Evaldo Ruy)
11 – Tu Vais Voltar (Ribamar (1) / Romeo Nunes)
12 – De Cigarro Em Cigarro (Luis Bonfá) Ninguém Me Ama (Fernando Lobo / Antônio Maria)

Hello, Good Evening! The rain falls with no mercy in Rio de Janeiro and zecalouro does not use to fly on rainy days. It was a day to check the very old and forgotten music with some great findings to Loronixers. Starting with this one, just to take advantage of the great feedback given to the last Caetano Rodrigues contribution, the first Zito Righi solo album, Sax de Ouro. Now it is time to check what Zito Righi delivers with his third and last LP, in partnership with the pianist Ribamar. Let’s see.

This is Ribamar e Zito Righi – Ribamar & Zito Righi (1963), for Musidisc, featuring Ribamar piano and Zito Righi sax tenor, accompanied by not credited musicians on bass, drums, guitar and percussion. Toni Vestane once again plays his role of special guest singing track 03 – Ai de Mim. This is a very relaxed session with Ribamar and Zito Righi performing a repertoire based on Brazilian, French, Spanish and American tunes. Tracks include:

01 – Que É Que Eu Faço (Ribamar (1) / Dolores Duran)
02 – Canção dos Olhos Tristes (Tito Madi)
03 – Ai de Mim (Capiba) – with Toni Vestane
04 – Aimer Comme Je T’aime (H. Giraud)
05 – Una Mujer (Paul Misraki)
06 – Quando Vuelva a Tu Lado (Maria Grever)
07 – Sunday Monday Or Always (J. Heusen / J. Burke)
08 – Sim Ou Não (Zito Righi)
09 – Só Em Teus Braços (Tom Jobim)
10 – Onde Estava Eu (Armando Cavalcanti / Victor Freire)

Helena de Lima – Dentro da Noite (1956) 10-inch

I know this album was released first in other places, recently made available at Green Eyed Lady, which celebrates today her 100,000 visitors milestone, and perhaps you already have this important album in your collection. However, I think he also belongs to Loronix, and I put all my resources available to pick up a very nice vinyl and make the transfer with attention. Anyway, consider it an upgrade if you already have your copy and take it as a must have if it is the first time you are being introduced to it. Let’s see.

This is Helena de Lima – Dentro da Noite (1956), for Continental, 10-inch, the first album by the Brazilian singer Helena de Lima, backed up by the piano of Ribamar. Dentro da Noite also brings the first recording of a very early composition of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Newton Mendonca, 05 – Foi a Noite. Do not miss this beautiful album. Tracks include:

01 – Antigamente (Vadico / Jarbas Melo)
02 – Abandonado (Esdras Pereira da Silva / Ribamar (1) / Walter Barros)
03 – Renúncia (Marino Pinto)
04 – Não Há de Que (Helena de Lima / Marino Pinto / Mário Rossi)
05 – Foi a Noite (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)
06 – E Nada Mais (César Siqueira / Maria Rita)
07 – Foi Você (Marino Pinto / Paulo Soledade)
08 – Revolta (Vadico / Marino Pinto)
.
Additional info: I forgot to say that Bossa Brasileira was the first website to make this album available for Brazilian music fans last year. Bossa Brasileira is owned and maintained by Thiago Mello that delivers professional reviews in English and Portuguese. I recommend and urge Loronixers to read Thiago’s review on Helena de Lima and the solid Brazilian music selection available at Bossa Brasileira, http://bossa-brasileira.blogspot.com.

Ribamar e Seu Conjunto – Duas Faces de Amor (196?)

Hello, Good Night! I have to admit that sometimes I use to accept assumptions as facts. Not a good behavior that once in a while takes you by surprise. Ribamar is a nice example. On my green head, Ribamar was always associated as a composer and eventually a singer, taking as example his LP with Tito Madi.

Ribamar is not only a composer, he is also an excellent pianist, working at nightclubs and starting his professional career accompanying Dolores Duran. Let’s see what happens with Ribamar e Seu Conjunto – Duas Faces de Amor (196?), for Equipe. There something obscure with this LP, the discographies I could search, it is listed as Duas Faces de Amor, but as you can see by the front cover, the title is different, Nosso Encontro de Amor. Since this LP was given to zecalouro several months ago, I cannot remember the friend who gave it to check this issue. Anyway, if this friend is still around, please comment or send an email, it will be greatly appreciated. Tracks include:

01 – A Noite do Meu Bem (Dolores Duran)
02 – Segredo (Herivelto Martins / Marino Pinto) — Nunca (Lupicínio Rodrigues)
03 – Duas Contas (Garoto) — Dó-ré-mi (Fernando César)
04 – Alguém Como Tu (José Maria de Abreu / Jair Amorim) — Não Tem Solução (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle)
05 – Cansei de Ilusões (Tito Madi) — Molambo (Jaime Florence “Meira” / Augusto Mesquita)
06 – Canção de Amor (Elano de Paula / Chocolate) — Canção da Volta (Ismael Netto / Antônio Maria)
07 – Não Tenho Você (Paulo Marques / Ari Monteiro) — Se Você Se Importasse (Peterpan)
08 – Folhas Mortas (Ary Barroso) — Prece (Vadico / Marino Pinto)
09 – Ninguém Me Ama (Fernando Lobo / Antônio Maria) — Se Eu Morrese Amanhã (Antônio Maria)
10 – Foi a Noite (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça) — Neste Mesmo Lugar (Klécius Caldas / Armando Cavalcanti)

.

Este disco pode ser buscado no Parallel Realities Studio. A capa original do disco vai abaixo.
