This is Juca Mestre and His Brasileiros – Panorama Musical do Brasil (1962), for Audio Fidelity (USA), yet another album recorded in Brazil, featuring Brazilian musicians and produced for the US audience. This cover is so great that alone makes this album an essential to Loronix collection, regardless the music inside, which is not the case. Panorama Musical do Brasil is above the average and features a sort of “big band” playing hits of the time with very nice arrangements by Maestro Juca Mestre.

I’m also making available an equivalent picture of Enseada de Botafogo taken last year. It is nice to see how Rio de Janeiro has changed across four decades. I was not born in 1962, but I really miss this time. And since everybody is now hearing Joao Gilberto or visiting Toque Musical, I would like to make a challenge. The first comment sent with the identification of Juca Mestre wins a Rapidshare one-month Premium Account. Tracks include:

01 – O Apito no Samba (Luis Bandeira / Luis Antônio)
02 – Mulata Assanhada (Ataulfo Alves)
03 – Poema do Adeus (Luis Antônio)
04 – Covarde (Getúlio Macedo / Lourival Faissal)
05 – Arrasta a Sandália (Osvaldo Vasques “Baiaco” / Aurélio Gomes)

Severino Filho - Um Brasileiro Viu ... Ouviu ... Sentiu ... O Mundo Em Sete Notas

Hello, good evening! I cannot remember that last time an old and good orchestra LP was released at Loronix. Perhaps in the beginning of this year. Anyway, the style really needs more attention and this album should pay all my debts with the legion of friends who that have been creating demand for some orchestra LPs. Let’s see.

This is Severino Filho e Sua Orquestra – Um Brasileiro Ouviu… Viu… Sentiu… O Mundo em 7 Notas (1960), for Continental, featuring orchestra and choir arrangements by Maestro Severino Filho (Os Cariocas) and a not credited participation of Os Cariocas at the choir. There are several elements that drag my attention here. The cover artwork featuring an airplane from the legendary Panair do Brasil, an airline that dominated Brazilian market throughout many years and was closed by Brazilian military government in 1965. I also like the concept of regions and world countries celebration. For each celebrated country our region, Maestro Severino Filho delivers arrangements of medleys with relevant music. Continental did not credit Maestro Severino Filho co-workers. Tracks include:

Hello, good evening! We are opening this Friday night with a truly amazing album. You should believe me. Before any other thing, two warnings are necessary, as follows: 1) In spite of the word “Dancas” at the album title, this is NOT a regular “Para Dancar” album, actually, by definition, this is not “Para Dancar” music. 2) Do not take it as an album recorded by Maestro Severino Araujo from Orquestra Tabajara, it is a very common mistake.

In the other hand, if you are not aware, Maestro Severino Filho is the leader of the Brazilian vocal group Os Cariocas, one of the greatest Brazilian musicians ever, still active with Os Cariocas since the foundation in 1942. I never heard about this album before and it is a great surprise since we have the participation of Os Cariocas. Let’s see.

This is Severino Filho e Sua Orquestra de Dancas – Rio de Janeiro, Gosto de Voce (1958), for Polydor, featuring an orchestra conduced and arranged by Maestro Severino Filho with the participation of Os Cariocas in a couple of tracks. This album was released 49 years ago and the recording quality is really amazing. Severino Filho e Sua Orquestra de Dancas features a not credited vibraphone player that delivers a wonderful job on top of overwhelming orchestra arrangements by Maestro Severino Filho. I urge Loronixers to send feedback on this delicious to hear LP. Tracks include:

01 – Despedida de Mangueira (Benedito Lacerda / Aldo Cabral)
02 – Palpite Infeliz (Noel Rosa)
03 – Rio de Janeiro (Ary Barroso)
04 – Valsa de Uma Cidade (Ismael Netto / Antônio Maria)
05 – Copacabana (Alberto Ribeiro / João de Barro)
06 – Cidade Maravilhosa (André Filho)
07 – Madureira Chorou (Carvalhinho / Julio Monteiro)
08 – O Bonde de São Januário (Ataulfo Alves / Wilson Batista)
09 – A Lapa (Herivelto Martins / Benedito Lacerda)
10 – Eu Vou Pra Vila (Noel Rosa)
11 – Fantasia Carioca (Alcyr Pires Vermelho / Osvaldo Santiago)
12 – Vai Com Jeito (João de Barro)

Não tinha esse disco. Porém, graças aos amigos Eliane e Martoni, ele pode ser buscado na Rádio Forma e Elenco.

Hello! Let’s start the day great with another Caetano Rodrigues contribution to Loronix. This record is always taken by mistake as an Os Cariocas album, probably by the great identification of Severino Filho with Os Cariocas. Severino filho was founder and member of os Cariocas during all phases, leading the group since the passing of his brother, Ismael Netto.

Severino Filho is a pianist and is also responsible for Os Cariocas vocal arrangements. This is Orquestra e Coral de Severino Filho – Metais e Vozes em Festival (1963), similar to the last release of Orquestra Pan American, which also had the participation of Os Cariocas.

Personnel include, Coral Oito Vozes, which is Os Cariocas as Severino Filho, Badeco, Quartera and Luiz Roberto plus Hortencia, Jurema, Gloria and Odaléa. Hortencia, Jurema and Gloria are sisters of Severino Filho and Ismael Neto. This is a unique orchestra LP selected by Caetano Rodrigues to Loronixers. Do not miss remaining musicians o the set and track list.
