Hi again! Two posts in a single day and both have connections. Although we have music, this is all about a movement among Brazilian filmmakers in the 1950’s and 1960’s known as Cinema Novo. This is the original soundtrack of probably the most famous film from Cinema Novo, featuring Sergio Ricardo and the acclaimed filmmaker Glauber Rocha. There is a very interesting statement about Cinema Novo, “Uma camera na mao e uma ideia na cabeca” (“a camera in the hand and an idea in the had”), which is an adequate description of the movement, which main topics included Brazilian poverty using the Northeast region as setting for the productions. Let’s see.

This is Sergio Ricardo e Glauber Rocha – Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol (1964), for Forma, with music by Sergio Ricardo and Glauber Rocha, production by Roberto Quartin and speeches by the actors Othon Bastos and Geraldo Del Rey. Glauber Rocha also wrote the back cover liner notes and he mentions the legendary Grande Otelo singing a Ze Ketti’s Samba Magoa de Sambista at Nelson Pereira dos Santos film “Rio Zona Norte” from 1957. I found it on the excellent Bossa Brasileira, also available below. Don’t miss this video and have a nice Sunday and a very good first 2009 week. Tracks include:

Very wise of Caetano to provide a better copy of this album in the beginning of the year when Bossa Nova makes its 50th anniversary. Additionally, it is a perfect album for starters, the friends who are making the first steps toward the music from Brazil and Bossa Nova years. This album was supposed to be one of the greatest zecalouro’s mother findings ever. Let’s say it still her great finding, but there is a major and unacceptable failure with this album. The vinyl played perfect on side A, however, side B is exactly the same as side A. Columbia made both sides as A by mistake. Such like the missing Joao Gilberto track, I’m now asking for Loronixers help to find the missing side B of this fantastic album. Let’s see, half of it.

This is Matematica, zero… Amor, Dez… (1958), for Columbia, the OST of the Brazilian movie, featuring a constellation at t cast with acting performances of Lyrio Panicali (as Lyrio Panicali e Sua Orquestra), Tito Madi, Lana Bittencourt, Maysa Mattarazo (as Maysa), Sylvio Mazzucca (as Sylvio Mazucca e Sua Orquestra), Sergio Murilo, Carlos Machado, Luiz Claudio and others, almost all the artists we know acting. Unfortunately, only side A is available. Tracks include:

01 – Menina Moça (Luis Antônio) – Tito Madi
02 – Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso) – Lana Bittencourt
03 – Sax Cantabile (Armando Dominguez) – Silvio Mazzuca e Sua Orquestra
04 – Avental da Pastora (Luis Antônio / Amado Regis) – Coro Columbia
05 – Rosa Morena (Dorival Caymmi) – Trigêmeos Vocalistas
06 – Vassourinha (Mathias da Rocha / Joana Batista Ramos) – Lyrio Panicali e Sua Orquestra
07 – On The Button (Nº 5) (J. J. Donnelly / V. L. Mott) – Banda Marcial do Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais
08 – O Milagre da Volta (Fernando César / A. Cavalcanti) – Lana Bittencourt (*)
09 – Apito no Samba (Luis Bandeira) – Lyrio Panicali e Sua Orquestra (*)

Como comentado pelo Zeca, apenas o lado A do disco estava disponível. Porém, nosso amigo Leandro do blog The Best of Vinil nos enviou o disco completo, que foi processado pelo amigo Pedro e publicado pelo Milan no Parallel Realities.

This is the original soundtrack of a movie film based on the musical play “Pobre Menina Rica” written by Vinícius de Moraes and Carlos Lyra. For those who never had contact with the play, it tells the story of people from favelas in Rio de Janeiro occupying an empty building and establishing a new society there. Anyway, the play understanding is not a pre requisite, you can have high quality entertainment only with the soundtrack, featuring several Brazilian artists under the musical direction of Maestro Antonio Carlos Jobim.

This is Para Viver um Grande Amor – OST (1983), for Columbia, featuring Dori Caymmi (great artist and a missing piece at Loronix), Djavan, Olivia Byington, Elba Ramalho, Sergio Ricardo and Zeze Mota. Djavan is also the movie main performer, sharing this role with one of the most beautiful woman in Brazil, Patricia Pillar. Compositions by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Carlos Lyra and Chico Buarque de Hollanda with arrangements by Eduardo Souto Neto. We cannot go wrong with this great soundtrack of a great movie. Tracks include:

01 – Samba do Carioca (Vinicius de Moraes / Carlos Lyra) – Dori Caymmi
02 – Sabe Você (Vinicius de Moraes / Carlos Lyra) – Djavan
03 – Sinhazinha (Despertar) (Chico Buarque) – Zezé Motta
04 – Desejo (Djavan) – Djavan
05 – A Violeira (Tom Jobim / Chico Buarque) Elba Ramalho
06 – Imagina (Tom Jobim / Chico Buarque) – Djavan & Olivia Byington
07 – Tanta Saudade (Djavan / Chico Buarque) – Djavan
08 – A Primavera (Vinicius de Moraes / Carlos Lyra) – Olivia Byington
09 – Sinhazinha (Despedida) (Chico Buarque) – Olivia Byington
10 – Samba do Grande Amor (Chico Buarque) – Sergio Ricardo
11 – Meninos Eu Vi (Tom Jobim / Chico Buarque) – Olivia Byington

Hello, Good Evening! Starting today with a very requested repost. Actually, not a repost, this album was available at Loronix for a very short period of time and went off-line due some problems with ripping quality. I’m glad that Caetano Rodrigues sent it to us. The music was taken from CD and there will be no bad surprises this time. Thanks Caetano.

This is Azimuth – O Fabuloso Fittipaldi | Trilha Sonora do Filme (1973), for Philips, featuring a very early Azimuth performing Marcos Valle and Paulo Sergio Valle compositions for the Original Soundtrack of O Fabuloso Fittipaldi, a documentary on the legendary race driver Emerson Fittipaldi. The album brings some speech by Emerson Fittipaldi and her wife Maria Helena, but Azimuth performances on top of Marcos and Paulo Sergio Valle compositions are really amazing. I never saw this movie before to see how music blends with film images and as a big Formula 1 fan I’m now very curious to watch it. Tracks include:

01 – Fittipaldi Show (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
02 – Tema de Maria Helena (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
03 – Vitória (Marcos Valle)
04 – Rindt (Marcos Valle)
05 – Acidente (Marcos Valle)
06 – Vinheta I (Marcos Valle)
07 – Vinheta II (Marcos Valle)
08 – Azimuth (Mil Milhas) (Marcos Valle / Novelli / Paulo Sergio Valle)
09 – Tema de Maria Helena (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
10 – Virabrequim (Marcos Valle)

Hello, Good Night! Let’s talk about the 70’s, the decade that I do not have much knowledge on Brazilian music. In the other hand, the friends that like the music from the 70’s, they make it with passion, such as: Mr. Bapt. and Mr. G. They are my consultants the official sounds of the 70’s Loronix advice guys.
