This is the great close of the first day of 48 Hours of Tom Jobim tribute. I hope you have enjoyed, just as I had a tremendous pleasure on making it with Caetano Rodrigues assistance. The idea was to show several different aspects of Antonio Carlos Jobim music, being of use for those who never had the chance to hear Jobim music and also for fans with unique Jobim’s LP. Tomorrow we will have our second and last day, completely different from the first one. I will appreciate a lot if you provide feedback on this tribute, so we can make better plans for the remaining tributes that will be scheduled throughout 2007. Thanks!

This is The Adventurers – Original Sound Track (1970), for Paramount. The film is known as bellow standard, but the great highlight is the sound track with music by Antonio Carlos Jobim. A very hard to find LP sent by Caetano to our tribute.

The Adventurers landmarks the first recording of two important Jobim songs, Children’s Game, changed to Chovendo na Roseira when got lyrics of Jobim and Dax & Amparo (Love Theme), changed to Olha Maria when lyrics from Vinicius de Moraes and Chico Buarque de Hollanda created the lyrics. The Adventurers is arranged and conducted by Eumir Deodato. Tracks include:

01 – Main Title
02 – Children’s Games
03 – Rome Montage
04 – Bolero
05 – Dax Rides
06 – Dax & Amparo (Love Theme)
07 – Corteguay (Deodato)
08 – The Long Trek
09 – Search For Amparo
10 – That Old Black Magic (Mercer/Arlen)
11 – Bitter Victory
12 – A Bed Of Flowers For Sue Ann

Lovely, we have here a tiny little piece of record provided by Mr. W. with several nice surprises and curiosities that you would like very much. Actually, Arara Azul sent also a Carmen Miranda LP as zecalouro Christmas gift, but it is a complex post that I’m saving for later. Thanks Mr. W. Thanks Arara Azul.

This is Ann Sothern, Jane Powell, Carmen Miranda and Danny Scholl – Nancy Goes to Rio (1950) – 10″, for MGM, released in Brazil as Romance Carioca. Can you believe that? It is true, this LP has also the participation of O Bando da Lua and landmarks the first international performance of the Brazilian genre Baiao with the song Caroom Pa Pa.

Mr. W. gave all details, saying also that a special attention should be given to the song IPSE-AI-O, a Samba, composed by Ray Gilbert, featuring O Bando da Lua. Another track to be highlighted is Love Is Like This, performed by Jane Powell, which is in fact Carinhoso (Pixinguinha) with English lyrics by Ray Gilbert. Breathtaking, short and amazing, don’t miss it. Tracks include:

01 – Love Is Like This – Jane Powell – (Gilbert-Vianna)
02 – Time and Time Again – Ann Sothern and Danny Scholl – (Brent-Spielman)
03 – YIPSEE-I-0 – Carmen Miranda – (Gilbert)
04 – Magic Is The Moonlight – Jane Powell and Ann Sothern – (Pasquale-Grever)

Não tinha este disco. Porém, graças aos amigos bOssas nOvas e Martoni, ele hoje está disponível na Rádio Forma e Elenco.

This is a Caetano Rodrigues contribution that was waiting for a chance for a several weeks. Blame it on zecalouro for it. He kept on secret a wonderful and very hard to find LP, anyway, Christmas is coming and maybe he wants to release the some nice surprises to celebrate.

Meet, Sergio Ricardo & Lindolfo Gaya – Esse Mundo E Meu (OST) (1965), for Forma as FM-5. The collectors use to know by heart the identification code from the record labels that they like most, such as: ME-XX for Elenco, MOFB XXXX for Odeon, etc. I never had a request for this FM-5 OST, which is really surprising.

Esse Mundo E Meu is black and white movie picture directed by Sergio Ricardo that follows two men living in a Rio de Janeiro slum: a black shoe-shiner and a white mill worker. I never saw this movie and perhaps it is not available on DVD or VHS, but the soundtrack is nice with Sergio Ricardo compositions and Lindolfo Gaya arrangements. Personnel listing brings Ed Maciel, Wilson das Neves, among others. Tracks include:

01 – Cabocla Jandira (Lindolfo Gaya)
02 – Sonho (Sergio Ricardo / Lindolfo Gaya)
03 – Chorinho da Barbearia (Sergio Ricardo)
04 – Nem Fome (Sergio Ricardo)
05 – Tempestade (Lindolfo Gaya)
06 – Pregão (Sergio Ricardo)
07 – Oxalá Meu Pai (Lindolfo Gaya)
08 – Esse Mundo É Meu (Sergio Ricardo)
09 – Tempestade (II) (Lindolfo Gaya)
10 – Cabocla Jandira (Lindolfo Gaya)

This post is for the fans of OSTs and a kind of cinema movie that was very common in the 70’s, Pornochanchada, which is the name given to a genre of sexploitation films, combining pornô (porn) and chanchada (light comedy).

These films were very funny, silly, with no explicity sex as today. Actually, today’s families could watch most of these films.

This is the original sound track of the film Motel, with five instrumental tracks composed by Ze Rodrix. Motel OST is a short pick, with only 6 tracks and 12 minutes of music. If you were in Brazil during the Pornochanchada days, this will make you remember those days. If not try to realize with the music how these films could be. Tracks include:

01 – Motel (Ze Rodrix)
02 – Professor e Aluna (Ze Rodrix)
03 – Fabio e Fani (Ze Rodrix)
04 – Consultorio de Dentista (Ze Rodrix)
05 – Marina (Ze Rodrix)
06 – Paulista Solto no Rio (Ze Rodrix)

Cronica da Cidade Amada – OST (1964)

Hello, this is the original soundtrack of the movie Cronica da Cidade Amada, by Carlos Hugo Christensen (1964), a comedy with short stories about the daily life of people in Rio de Janeiro, the Cariocas. I did not see the movie and probably only a few people in Brazil had the chance to watch it.

Taiguara, Tito Madi, Portinho, Blecaute and Rio 65 Trio perform the soundtrack. The cover brings a picture of a girl with a “pipa” style that I use to have a lot of fun at the beach with my parents. I could never see this “pipa” again, how I miss this time.

If you do not know what is a “pipa”, it is the device used by Benjamin Franklin to discover electricity. Tracks include:

01 – Crônica da Cidade Amada (Taiguara)
02 – Aparição (Taiguara)
03 – Quero Morrer no Rio (Blecaute)
04 – Muito Tempo a Esperar (Tito Madi Taiguara)
05 – Meu Fraco É Café Forte (Rio 65 Trio)
06 – Crônica de Amor (Paulo Autran)
07 – Receita de Domingo (Taiguara)
08 – Receita de Domingo (Paulo Autran)
09 – O Pombo Enigmático (Diálogo dos Pombos)
10 – Aruanda (Rio 65 Trio)
11 – Retrospecto
12 – Cidade Maravilhosa (Portinho e sua Orquestra)

Este disco estava com defeito. Conseguimos a nova versão, completa e em melhor qualidade graças a um colaborador anônimo. Faltava a faixa 04 – Muito tempo a esperar.

This LP is a cult piece from the 70’s, the Original Soundtrack of the movie A Virgem de Saint Tropez (1974) by Hareton Salvanini. It is a intriguing record, mixing several influences to background the scenes from this soft-porn movie.

There is no need to take the kids out to listen to it, just some discretion with the cover, which could be to strong in the 70’s but too silly for the XXI century. To better describe this LP, I will take the help of a given collector review taken from a website.

“Rare Brazilian soft-porn movie soundtrack recorded by maestro/keyboard player Hareton Salvanini. Several amazing humming breezy erotic fusion themes, plus two great wah wah led blaxploitation style tunes. A true masterpiece of the genre, and as impossible to find as any other Brazilian movie OST.”
