Hello, good evening! Wilson Simonal is among the most popular singers among Loronix’s friends, mainly the friends outside Brazil. From my perspective, Wilson Simonal music is among the ones that I had more pleasure to make available here. Max de Castro, and the whole Simonal family is always involved with Loronix, which is something that makes me feel really proud. Since the beginning, Loronix has been delivering Wilson Simonal from his early years at Odeon, which includes the whole 1960’s and the very first beginning of the 1970’s. Now it is time to get along with Wilson Simonal from the 1970’s, and we will make it together, I made my first hearing while transferring today. Let’s see.

This is Wilson Simonal – Ninguem Proibe o Amor (1975), for RCA Victor. It is not necessary to say we have a fantastic cover artwork here, including the back cover with Wilson Simonal on an empty stadium. Different from RCA releases in the 70’s, personnel listing was not fully credited, with the exception of arrangements, in charge of Maestro Briamonte. Tracks include:

01 – Escola Em Luto (J. Velloso / Andó)
02 – Coisa de Louco (Zapatta / Carvalho)
03 – Partitura de Amor (Adilson Manhães / Cassiano)
04 – Da Cor do Pecado (Bororó)
05 – Sabe Você (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
06 – O Amor Está no Ar (Agostinho dos Santos / Joab Teixeira)
07 – Embrulheira (Luis Vagner)
08 – Bons Tempos (Nazareno / Marcelo Duran)
09 – Sozinha (Bicho de Pé) (Lupicínio Rodrigues)
10 – Cordão (Chico Buarque)

Finally, things start to get better at my computational marathon, which makes me feel really glad and ready to give a positive message of Feliz Pascoa / Happy Easter to all Loronixers, family and friends. If you don’t celebrate Easter, take also my positive vibrations and have a nice Sunday. My Easter present is an album from a very requested artist that needs to be shown more often, especially now when many new friends are coming for the first time to our community. Let’s see.

02 – Mas Valia Nao Chorar (Normando / Ronaldo Boscoli) [LP]

My approach to the whole discography of this great artist is unique. I use to listen to his music several times before showing to Loronixers. Perhaps it is the need of saying something new every time or the responsibility to show a new album by one of the top five most popular artists at Loronix. Everybody likes Wilson Simonal. I spoke this week with the Green Eyed Lady and for my surprise; the Jazzy Lady is also a big fan of this great artist.

This post is dedicated to Max de Castro and Wilson Simoninha, Loronixers since the very first beginning and one of the most open and friendly artists I had the chance to know with Loronix. You are the guys!

This is Wilson Simonal – S’imbora (1965), for Odeon. S’imbora is the fourth Wilson Simonal career album. The repertoire selection is a must with a nice selection of Bossa Nova standards. Odeon delivers a dream-team of arrangers to Wilson Simonal, including Eumir Deodato, Lyrio Panicalli and Erlon Chaves, each one in charge of a given track, as described at track listing. Tracks include:

01 – Mangangá (Geraldo Nunes) (1)
02 – Fica Mal Com Deus (Geraldo Vandré) (2)
03 – Sonho de Um Carnaval (Chico Buarque) (1)
04 – Samba do Carioca (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes) (2)
05 – Duas Contas (Garoto) (3)
06 – Se Todas Fossem Iguais a Você (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes) (2)

09 – Nós Dois (Silvio César) (3)
10 – O Apito no Samba (Luis Bandeira / Luis Antônio) (3)
11 – O Teu Amanhã (Durval Ferreira / Regina Werneck) (2)
12 – Lenda (Marcos Valle / Luis Fernando Freire) (3)

Arrangements by: (1) Erlon Chaves
Arrangements by: (2) Eumir Deodato

This one was by accident; I found this little record today inside a bunch of old Brazilian magazines sold by an old lady close to my place. She didn’t know about the album and I had to buy the magazine for one Real to take it home. I think I did a nice deal, the EP never was played before and I could not wait longer to show Loronixers. Let’s see.

This is Wilson Simonal – Promo EP (1970), for Odeon. Shell – the UK oil and gas company – when sponsored the V Festival Internacional da Cancao probably freely distributed this record. The EP feature three songs, the anthem of the festival, Cada um Cumpra com o Seu Dever, both arranged by Lyrio Panicalli and Brasil, Eu Fico (Jorge Ben). Tracks include:

01 – Hino do V Festival Internacional da Cancao (Miguel Gustavo)
02 – Brasil, Eu Fico (Jorge Ben)
03 – Que Cada um Cumpra com o Seu Dever (Wilson Simonal)

Caetano left Sao Paulo today for a short business trip and made a phone call to remind me of Wilson Simonal passing, seven years ago, June 26, 2000. I know we had the great Joia, Joia less than a week, but this album is so great that I could not resist showing Loronixers. Wilson Simonal – Joia, Joia (1971)

This is the Wilson Simonal album that we should listen with attention, Joia, Joia landmarks the start of a major change on Wilson Simonal discography. With Joia, Joia, Wilson Simonal definitively leaves the 60’s bossa nova and pilantragem accent towards a more 70’s funk and soul approach. Unfortunately, those still controversial political affairs emerged just before Joia, Joia release and Wilson Simonal could not keep the pace of his career in the forthcoming years.

This is Wilson Simonal – Joia, Joia (1971), for Odeon, with arrangements by Erlon Chaves and Sergio Carvalho as indicated on track list. Tracks include:

01 – De Noite na Cama (Caetano Veloso) – EC
02 – Gemedeira (Luis Wanderley) – SC
03 – Impossível Acreditar Que Perdi Você (Márcio Greyck / Cobel) – EC
04 – Tristeza (Edil Pacheco / Carlos Lacerda) – EC

I heard somewhere that I use to say “one of the best of” on every post. This is not the truth. I’m a fan of statistics and I guarantee that it is not every time. So let’s make it different, this album is being reposted because it is probably the best Wilson Simonal LP and the previous version was far away from what I consider an acceptable copy.

This is Wilson Simonal – Alegria, Alegria!!! (1967), for Odeon, really nice album with a bellow the average cover artwork according with Wilson Simonal standards, so I’m showing an alternative one, the same album issued in Peru as Pais Tropical by IEMPSA, which is probably an Odeon subsidiary. The original cover is available as a thumbnail in the left and also inside the music on high resolution. If you are among those several friends that claimed by an improved version, your time has come. Tracks include:

01 – Os Escravos de Jó (Antônio Luis / Wilson Simonal)
02 – Agora É Cinza (Alcebíades Barcelos “Bide” / Armando “Marçal”)
03 – Vesti Azul (Nonato Buzar)
04 – Aos Pés da Cruz (Marino Pinto / Zé da Zilda)
05 – Belinha (Toquinho / Vitor Martins)
06 – Pra Que (Silvio César)
07 – Nem Vem Que Não Tem (Carlos Imperial)
08 – Fim de Semana Em Paquetá (João de Barro / Alberto Ribeiro)
09 – Pára Pedro (José Mendes / José Portela Delavy)
10 – Está Chegando a Hora (Henricão / Rubens Campos)
11 – Remelexo (Caetano Veloso)
12 – Discussão (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)

I’m confident someone finds Altamiro Carrilho e Sua Flauta Azul 10-inch as described bellow. It will fantastic to have this album back to Altamiro and Jornal Musical and also a great accomplish to our community. Anyway, once again I do not have arguments to explain why the debut LP of this so adored artist was not released before. This is a great album, different from the later works of Wilson Simonal and you will have a high quality entertainment with it.

This is Wilson Simonal – Tem Algo Mais (1963), for Odeon, Wilson Simonal debut LP, featuring orchestral arrangements by Maestro Lyrio Panicalli. Do not think you will get a groovy samba flavored Wilson Simonal on his debut, this is a nice Bossa Nova album with Wilson Simonal singing smooth, supported by Maestro Lyrio Panicalli. Definitively, the early 60’s was the peak years for Brazilian male singers; several nice works are from this period, such like the early works of Pery Ribeiro and others. Tracks include:

01 – Tudo de Você (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
02 – Amanhecendo (Roberto Menescal / Luis Fernando Freire)
03 – Telefone (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
04 – Saudade (Silvio César)
05 – Samba Cromático (Jair Amorim / Carlos Cruz)
06 – Menina Flor (Luis Bonfá / Maria Helena Toledo)
07 – Lágrima Flor (Billy Blanco)
08 – Balanço Zona Sul (Tito Madi)
09 – Menino Triste (Gracindo Jr. / Rildo Hora)
10 – Meu Comportamento (Chico Feitosa / Marcos de Vasconcellos)
11 – Samba É Verbo (Édson Menezes / Alberto Paz)
12 – Manhã no Posto Seis (Armando Cavalcanti)

Just decided. This is another of those long time requests of Mr. D&C., he has this record, not the case this time, but he says that this LP is so good that it is a shame that Loronixers were not presented to it so far. I agree with Mr. D&C, the last video with Wilson Simonal and Silvio Cesar made some requests of Wilson Simonal starts dropping at my mailbox. That’s why we are making it again, this time, making great.

This is Wilson Simonal e Som Tres – Show em Simonal (1967), for Odeon, featuring Cesar Camargo Mariano Trio, Som Tres. The collaboration between Wilson Simonal and Som Tres was already discussed when we knew that very hard to find Wilson Simonal and Som Tres LP released in Mexico, Mexico 70. Show em Simonal was recorded live at Teatro Record in Sao Paulo, it is a double LP with 52 minutes of music.

This is Wilson Simonal e Som Tres – Show em Simonal (1967), at Loronix.  Hope uEnjoy!

Hello, Good Night! I was out of the cage all day long, celebrating my daddy birthday. I had a great time with all my relatives on a very Carioca day with Feijoada and Caipirinha. I do not drink alcohol, but today was an exception. I have a problem with alcohol, my face becomes red and if I drink too much I feel my throat closing. Maybe it is an allergic side effect.

Anyway, I’m really surprise to read several good feedbacks from yesterday’s posts. The best posts are the ones that come though Loronix recommendations. I’m thinking about making a structured menu to provide Loronixers a channel for placing recommendations. This is something that will be implemented very soon. Stay tuned!

In the spirit of addressing Loronixers recommendations, I’m presenting an album recommended today at CBox by Alberto. This is Wilson Simonal – Wilson Simonal (1965), for Odeon. According with the liner notes written by Ronaldo Boscoli, this LP is all about Wilson Simonal and Bossa Nova with a repertoire dedicated to Bossa Nova standards. The musical direction is in charge of Maestro Lyrio Panicalli that also shares arrangements with J.T Meirelles and Eumir Deodato. Details are available on back cover. Oops! I was back to CBox and read that this is not exactly what Alberto had in mind. Anyway, let’s make Alberto’s pick later on. I believe Loronixers will enjoy very much this one. Tracks include:

01 – Garota Moderna (Evaldo Gouveia / Jair Amorim)
02 – Sambas de Ary Barroso: Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso) — Aquarela do Brasil (Ary Barroso) — Terra Seca (Ary Barroso)

04 – Marina (Dorival Caymmi)
05 – Mestiço (Orlann Divo / Ypyranga)
06 – As Moças do Meu Tempo (Carlos Lyra / Zé Keti)
07 – Rio do Meu Amor (Billy Blanco)
08 – Opinião (Zé Keti) — O Morro Não Tem Vez (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes) — Batucada Surgiu (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)

This is Isso e o Drink (1960), for Remon. Max started his career in 1992 joining the band Confraria, formed by the brothers Pedro Camargo Mariano and Joao Marcelo Mariano.

Max released his first CD in 1999, Samba Raro, receiving several enthusiastic reviews. Since this first CD Max has released several albums, the last one is a very recent piece, Max de Castro – Balanco das Horas (2006). zecalouro invites all Loronixes to get along with Max and his new CD Balanco das Horas, here. http://www.maxdecastro.com.br

Wilson Simonal – Alegria Alegria, Volume 2 or Quem Nao Tem Swing Morre com a Boca Cheia de Formiga (1968)

1 08 2011

Everybody is crying for Wilson Simonal. So, here it is. Wilson Simonal – Alegria, Alegria – Volume 2 is the second out of three releses for Odeon. Also called Quem Nao Tem Swing Morre com a Boca Cheia de Formiga, this is not considered one of his greatest releases, Simonal soul is a little diminished in comparison with previous releases, since Odeon was willing to capitalize on his growing success by molding him into a more conventional pop singer.

This is the first Loronix Simonal release, there is more to come. zecalouro also wants to tell a little bit more about Simonal bio and the urban legend of his connections with the political mainstream of the 70’s, which collapsed his career before givin Simonal the chance to be internationally famous.
