Hello, good evening! Wilson Simonal is among the most popular singers among Loronix’s friends, mainly the friends outside Brazil. From my perspective, Wilson Simonal music is among the ones that I had more pleasure to make available here. Max de Castro, and the whole Simonal family is always involved with Loronix, which is something that makes me feel really proud. Since the beginning, Loronix has been delivering Wilson Simonal from his early years at Odeon, which includes the whole 1960’s and the very first beginning of the 1970’s. Now it is time to get along with Wilson Simonal from the 1970’s, and we will make it together, I made my first hearing while transferring today. Let’s see.

This is Wilson Simonal – Ninguem Proibe o Amor (1975), for RCA Victor. It is not necessary to say we have a fantastic cover artwork here, including the back cover with Wilson Simonal on an empty stadium. Different from RCA releases in the 70’s, personnel listing was not fully credited, with the exception of arrangements, in charge of Maestro Briamonte. Tracks include:

01 – Escola Em Luto (J. Velloso / Andó)
02 – Coisa de Louco (Zapatta / Carvalho)
03 – Partitura de Amor (Adilson Manhães / Cassiano)
04 – Da Cor do Pecado (Bororó)
05 – Sabe Você (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
06 – O Amor Está no Ar (Agostinho dos Santos / Joab Teixeira)
07 – Embrulheira (Luis Vagner)
08 – Bons Tempos (Nazareno / Marcelo Duran)
09 – Sozinha (Bicho de Pé) (Lupicínio Rodrigues)
10 – Cordão (Chico Buarque)

Finally, things start to get better at my computational marathon, which makes me feel really glad and ready to give a positive message of Feliz Pascoa / Happy Easter to all Loronixers, family and friends. If you don’t celebrate Easter, take also my positive vibrations and have a nice Sunday. My Easter present is an album from a very requested artist that needs to be shown more often, especially now when many new friends are coming for the first time to our community. Let’s see.

My approach to the whole discography of this great artist is unique. I use to listen to his music several times before showing to Loronixers. Perhaps it is the need of saying something new every time or the responsibility to show a new album by one of the top five most popular artists at Loronix. Everybody likes Wilson Simonal. I spoke this week with the Green Eyed Lady and for my surprise; the Jazzy Lady is also a big fan of this great artist.

This post is dedicated to Max de Castro and Wilson Simoninha, Loronixers since the very first beginning and one of the most open and friendly artists I had the chance to know with Loronix. You are the guys!

This is Wilson Simonal – S’imbora (1965), for Odeon. S’imbora is the fourth Wilson Simonal career album. The repertoire selection is a must with a nice selection of Bossa Nova standards. Odeon delivers a dream-team of arrangers to Wilson Simonal, including Eumir Deodato, Lyrio Panicalli and Erlon Chaves, each one in charge of a given track, as described at track listing. Tracks include:

01 – Mangangá (Geraldo Nunes) (1)
02 – Fica Mal Com Deus (Geraldo Vandré) (2)
03 – Sonho de Um Carnaval (Chico Buarque) (1)
04 – Samba do Carioca (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes) (2)
05 – Duas Contas (Garoto) (3)
06 – Se Todas Fossem Iguais a Você (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes) (2)

10 – O Apito no Samba (Luis Bandeira / Luis Antônio) (3)
11 – O Teu Amanhã (Durval Ferreira / Regina Werneck) (2)

This one was by accident; I found this little record today inside a bunch of old Brazilian magazines sold by an old lady close to my place. She didn’t know about the album and I had to buy the magazine for one Real to take it home. I think I did a nice deal, the EP never was played before and I could not wait longer to show Loronixers. Let’s see.

This is Wilson Simonal – Promo EP (1970), for Odeon. Shell – the UK oil and gas company – when sponsored the V Festival Internacional da Cancao probably freely distributed this record. The EP feature three songs, the anthem of the festival, Cada um Cumpra com o Seu Dever, both arranged by Lyrio Panicalli and Brasil, Eu Fico (Jorge Ben). Tracks include:

01 – Hino do V Festival Internacional da Cancao (Miguel Gustavo)
02 – Brasil, Eu Fico (Jorge Ben)
03 – Que Cada um Cumpra com o Seu Dever (Wilson Simonal)

Caetano left Sao Paulo today for a short business trip and made a phone call to remind me of Wilson Simonal passing, seven years ago, June 26, 2000. Wilson Simonal – Joia, Joia (1971)

This is the Wilson Simonal album that we should listen with attention, Joia, Joia landmarks the start of a major change on Wilson Simonal discography. With Joia, Joia, Wilson Simonal definitively leaves the 60’s bossa nova and pilantragem accent towards a more 70’s funk and soul approach. Unfortunately, those still controversial political affairs emerged just before Joia, Joia release and Wilson Simonal could not keep the pace of his career in the forthcoming years.

This is Wilson Simonal – Joia, Joia (1971), for Odeon, with arrangements by Erlon Chaves and Sergio Carvalho as indicated on track list. Tracks include:

01 – De Noite na Cama (Caetano Veloso) – EC
02 – Gemedeira (Luis Wanderley) – SC
03 – Impossível Acreditar Que Perdi Você (Márcio Greyck / Cobel) – EC
04 – Tristeza (Edil Pacheco / Carlos Lacerda) – EC
05 – Tudo É Magnífico (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis) – EC
06 – Lampião Em Prosas e Versos (Luis Wanderley) – SC
07 – Garoa Diferente (Tião Motorista) – SC
08 – Você Abusou (Antônio Carlos Marques / Jocafi) -EC
09 – Na Galha do Cajueiro (Tião Motorista) – EC

I heard somewhere that I use to say “one of the best of” on every post. This is not the truth. I’m a fan of statistics and I guarantee that it is not every time. So let’s make it different, this album is being reposted because it is probably the best Wilson Simonal LP and the previous version was far away from what I consider an acceptable copy.

This is Wilson Simonal – Alegria, Alegria!!! (1967), for Odeon, really nice album with a bellow the average cover artwork according with Wilson Simonal standards, so I’m showing an alternative one, the same album issued in Peru as Pais Tropical by IEMPSA, which is probably an Odeon subsidiary. The original cover is available as a thumbnail in the left and also inside the music on high resolution. If you are among those several friends that claimed by an improved version, your time has come. Tracks include:

01 – Os Escravos de Jó (Antônio Luis / Wilson Simonal)
02 – Agora É Cinza (Alcebíades Barcelos “Bide” / Armando “Marçal”)
03 – Vesti Azul (Nonato Buzar)
04 – Aos Pés da Cruz (Marino Pinto / Zé da Zilda)
05 – Belinha (Toquinho / Vitor Martins)
06 – Pra Que (Silvio César)
07 – Nem Vem Que Não Tem (Carlos Imperial)
08 – Fim de Semana Em Paquetá (João de Barro / Alberto Ribeiro)
09 – Pára Pedro (José Mendes / José Portela Delavy)
10 – Está Chegando a Hora (Henricão / Rubens Campos)
11 – Remelexo (Caetano Veloso)
12 – Discussão (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)
