Hello, good evening! I would like to give my sincere apologies for a non-planned hiatus during the whole weekend. We are in the final stages for launching of a new website. It is not necessary to say this website is about Brazilian music and especially about Brazilian musicians. It is an amazing project, which will pay back all the effort we are putting in these final days. Stay tuned.

Speaking about this album, don’t let the appearances cheat you as I was. I always thought this record as a given reissue of the essential Antonio Carlos Jobim and Billy Blanco’s Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro, released for the first time by Continental in 1954. In fact it is. Side A features a remastered version of the whole 1954 album. However, Continental delivers remastered cuts taken from 78rpms with very important recordings, and this is what makes this album a winner. Let’s see.

This is Tom Jobim e Billy Blanco – Serie Idolos MPB 7 (1974), for Continental, featuring a constellation of Brazilian artists performing Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro on side A and really nice Continental 78rpm remasterings featuring Antonio Carlos Jobim music performed by Luiz Bonfa, Dick Farney, Lucio Alves, Nora Ney, Dora Lopes and Doris Monteiro. Antonio Carlos Jobim also performs in these tracks with his “Conjunto” and orchestra, as detailed on track list information below. Tracks include:

Tom Jobim & Billy Blanco - Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro (1960)

SinfoniaDoRioA research was needed to complete understand this album, which is the reissue of the second recording made by Continental of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Billy Blanco Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro. Continental made the first Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro recording in 1954 using the 10-inch format. Continental made it again in 1960, using different performers and taking advantage of the 12-inch format, including more tracks on Side B, an extended version of Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro on Side A with a whole group of new performers compared with the ones in the 1954 session. This is the 1981 reissue of the 1960 session, an album that I did not know the existence and should amaze everybody, such as I was amazed when found it on one of those R$ 1,00 boxes. Let’s see.

This is Antonio Carlos Jobim & Billy Blanco – Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro (1960), for Continental, presented here with the 1981 Continental reissue, featuring Radames Gnattali arrangements, orchestra and a constellation of performers, including Maysa, Os Cariocas, Severino Filho, Jamelao, Ted Moreno, among others. Loronix Preview Center brings track 03 – Copacabana, performed by Maysa. Tracks include:

The Performers

Radames Gnattali
Ted Moreno
Os Cariocas
Risadinha
Luely Figueiro
Albertinho Fortuna
Nelly Martins

I’m not sure that everybody will remember when I introduced Loronixers to a series of albums dedicated to Brazilian artists with Chico Buarque edition on Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira – Serie Grandes Compositores. You can check Chico Buarque album here.

Now it is time to get along with another series, which is my favorite, Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira, easily identified by this back cover. This series was released from 1970 to 1971 and it is very easy to find on old vinyl shops in Rio. Each edition comes with biography, beautiful color photos and something that is really great an LP in the 10-inch format featuring a compilation.

This is Billy Blanco – Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira Nr. 32 (1971), for Abril Cultural, featuring eight Billy Blanco compositions, performed by Lucio Alves, Isaura Garcia, Jorge Veiga, Doris Monteiro, Maysa, Jamelao, Wilson Simonal and Billy Banco. I think Billy Blanco choice is correct; he is a very important Bossa Nova artist with less than a few albums available at Loronix. Tracks include:

The Performers

Lucio Alves
Isaura Garcia
Jorge Veiga
Doris Monteiro
Maysa
Jamelao
Billy Blanco
Wilson Simonal

Track List

01 – Viva Meu Samba – Lucio Alves
02 – A Banca do Destino – Isaura Garcia
03 – Estatutos da Gafieira – Jorge Veiga
04 – Mocinho Bonito – Doris Monteiro
05 – Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro – Jamelao & Maysa
06 – Camelo – Billy Blanco
07 – Piston de Gafieira – Jorge Veiga
08 – Rio meu Amor – Wilson Simonal

.

Não tinha esse disco. Porém, graças aos amigos Amilcar e Martoni ele pode ser buscado na Rádio Forma e Elenco.

This post is dedicated to The Jazzman, a great Loronixer that joinned us recently and since his first day does not hesitate on sending emails, shouting at the CBox and writing posts at the Forum. The Jazzman made a zecalouro picture a couple of days ago that I could not resist sharing with Loronixers, it is at the right as a smal picture and you can click to see it big. The Jazzman is a Billy Blanco fan and everyday remembers be to launch this anthological Billy Blanco record, that is what we will see right now.
This is Billy Blanco – Musicas de Billy Blanco na Voz do Proprio (1966), for Elenco, Billy Blanco debut LP and the first solo album at Loronix that Billy Blanco does what I like most of him, his beautiful and sweet voice that makes a nice counterpoint with his strong character with that big moustache that is all about Billy Blanco. Really nice, you cannot miss this record. I’m also showing a video featuring Billy Blanco and his grandchildren Pedro Sol, live at J-Club performing Teresa da Praia.

Tracks include:

01 – Mocinho Bonito (Billy Blanco)
02 – Rio do Meu Amor (Billy Blanco)
03 – Minha Vida Com Tereza (Billy Blanco)
04 – Branca de Neve (Billy Blanco)
05 – Tio Alfredo (Billy Blanco)
06 – Secretária (Billy Blanco)
07 – Domingo Azul (Billy Blanco)
08 – Tchau Mesmo (Billy Blanco)
09 – Praça Mauá (Billy Blanco)
10 – Estrada do Nada (Billy Blanco)

Here we have another LP that zecalouro is keeping locked inside his cage for months. I would never imagine that today would be the best day to show it to Loronixers, I’m feeling a little dizzy today. Several new friends are visiting our community for the first time today. Loronix was recommended by the Oliver Wang from the awesome Soul-Sides.com and I would like to please our new visitors with this legendary record.

This is Antonio Carlos Jobim and Billy Blanco – Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro (1954), for Continental, a very early 10-inch recording capturing the early Tom Jobim and Billy Blanco compositions on symphonic format with orchestra directed and arrangement by Maestro Radames Gnattali. Actually, Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro is not one of the most inspired Tom Jobim works, Jobim was still defining his style and did not meet already his long-term partner Vinicius de Moraes.

The historical aspect, the participation of several renowned artists, such as: Nora Ney, Lucio Alves, Os Cariocas, Dick Farney and Elizeth Cardoso and Radames Gnattali Orquestra worth the admission price alone. You should not miss it. Tracks include:

01 – A Montanha – o Sol – o Mar (Sinfonia Popular Em Tempo de Samba) (Billy Blanco / Tom Jobim) – performed by: Nora Ney / Lúcio Alves / Os Cariocas / Gilberto Milfont / Emilinha Borba / Dick Farney /Doris Monteiro / Jorge Goulart / Elizeth Cardoso
02 – Arpoador (Tom Jobim / Billy Blanco)
03 – Noites do Rio (Tom Jobim / Billy Blanco)
04 – O Samba de Amanhã (Tom Jobim / Billy Blanco)
05 – Hino ao Sol (Tom Jobim / Billy Blanco)
06 – Descendo o Morro (Billy Blanco / Tom Jobim)

All tracks are Billy Blanco compositions performed by several renowned artists, as follows: Pery Ribeiro, Claudia, Elza Soares, Nadinho da Ilha, Claudette Soares and Miltinho.
