Hello, good evening! A friend of mine, very connected to Brazilian music scene, with access to virtually all artists, said the only artist that left nervous and anxious when contacting was Chico Buarque. He said this thing a couple of years ago and I did not understand why by that time. Today, with Loronix, this statement came to my mind and his anguish is now clear. Chico Buarque is one of the greatest Brazilian artists in activity, able to move successfully between different artistic manifestations, including the challenging terrain of literature. Above all, Chico Buarque is an artist with respect to his own beliefs, a very intelligent man. His work was long available commercially through the release of all his discography in a box set. This is the reason his music is not represented here like other artists. I am very happy to make this album, the third out three Chico Buarque initial releases for RGE, considered by many his best releases. Let’s see.

This is Chico Buarque de Hollanda – Volume 3 (1968), for RGE, featuring orchestra and arrangements by Maestro Lindolpho Gaya and important participations of Toquinho, MPB-4 and recording debut of Chico Buarque sister, Cristina Buarque. Volume 3 features several well-known Chico Buarque compositions, including Retrato em Branco e Preto (Chico Buarque / Antonio Carlos Jobim), Roda Viva (Chico Buarque), Funeral de um Lavrador (Chico Buarque / Joao Cabral de Melo Neto) and my favorite Carolina (Chico Buarque). Sadly, musicians were not credited by RGE. Tracks include:

01 – Ela Desatinou (Chico Buarque)
02 – Retrato Em Branco e Preto (Tom Jobim / Chico Buarque)
03 – Januária (Chico Buarque)
04 – Desencontro (Chico Buarque) with TOQUINHO
05 – Carolina (Chico Buarque)
06 – Roda Viva (Chico Buarque) with MPB-4
07 – O Velho (Chico Buarque)
08 – Até Pensei (Chico Buarque)
09 – Sem Fantasia (Chico Buarque) with CRISTINA BUARQUE
10 – Até Segunda-feira (Chico Buarque)
11 – Funeral de Um Lavrador (Chico Buarque / João Cabral de Melo Neto)
12 – Tema Para ”Morte e Vida Severina” (Chico Buarque)

.

Hello! Yesterday, more like a kind of therapy than anything else in this crazy 2009, I made a script that addresses a very old request of Loronix community. It is already available and you probably have seen it. Now we have an option to download individual tracks from a disc, instead of the whole album on a huge zip ball. It is always available as “Individual Tracks” on post closing information (if the size is set to 0,00Mb, don’t worry, the robot will fix it). It is an amazing feature, which is gradually being materialized by a robot that works 24hours a day with no complaints. It is beautiful; he is taking files from Rapidshare, opening on our dedicated server, reading its contents, recording all the information on a database and sending everything back to Rapidshare as single tracks.

Some very interesting numbers were collected so far. From a total of 1894 albums available, the robot has finished with 599, making available 5836 tracks for individual hearing. I believe that in the end of the process we will have 20,000 tracks available. These numbers are crazy and they open possibilities for several innovations in the near future. Additionally, images are also being addressed and so far we have 1350 images available. I’m impressed with these figures. If you have any idea to make use and maximize this work, please drop me a line.

I’m talking today. Perhaps Nara Leao is giving a chance. Nara Leao is the most representative Bossa Nova singer and everybody loves her. Let’s see.

This is Nara Leao – Com Acucar e Com Afeto (1980), for Philips, featuring Chico Buarque compositions and Chico Buarque participation as special guest on three tracks. It is a common mistake to take this one as another Nara Leao release, with the same title and different cover, a commercially available compilation. Nara’s tribute to Chico Buarque is produced and arranged by Octavio Burnier and features a constellation of Brazilian musicians. Tracks include:

Personnel

Octavio Burnier Bonfa

Eneas Costa, Paulinho Braga

Jamil Joanes, Luizao Maia

Jose Roberto Bertrami, Marcos Resende

I think this is another great finding sponsored by my mother, who brought this compacto duplo (EP) in her last contribution to our community. I could not find this little record listed in any discography checked and I believe he brings something never released on regular Chico Buarque albums, which is the recording of of Roda Viva, featuring the vocal group MPB-4 in the III Festival da Musica Popular Brasileira in 1967. My memory has not been very good recently, but I remember someone asking for this tune. Let’s see.

This is Chico Buarque de Hollanda – Compacto Duplo (1967), for RGE, featuring the participation of MPB-4 at Roda Viva in III Festival da Musica Popular Brasileira and Carolina, taken from the II Festival Internacional da Cancao, Rio de Janeiro. This cover artwork alone worth the admission of this nice album. I would like to say thanks to everybody and give my apologies for the recent outages at Loronix, my work on these issues are not finished and probably we will have a better and fast website as soon as the situation gets back to normal. Tracks include:

01 – Roda Viva (Chico Buarque) with MPB-4 at III Festival da Musica Popular Brasileira
02 – A Televisao (Chico Buarque)
03 – Carolina (Chico Buarque) at II Festival Internacional da Cancao
04 – Um Chorinho (Chico Buarque)

Hello, good evening! Let’s start this Tuesday with this little record, scheduled to be released yesterday, and just forgotten by this green bird. Perhaps the size of this single was the reason. Although small, everything is great, the outside with this hypnotic RGE cover and the music, featuring Chico Buarque and his lovely sister Cristina making her second recording career participation. Let’s see.

This is Chico Buarque de Hollanda – Single RGO 4.674 (1968), for RGE, featuring Benvinda, from the IV Festival da Musica Popular Brasileira on side A and Sem Fantasia with Cristina Buarque and arrangements by Lindolpho Gaya. I’m in love with compactos and there are many to show in the forthcoming days. Tracks include:

01 – Benvinda (Chico Buarque de Hollanda) – IV Festival da Musica Popular Brasileira
02 – Sem Fantasia (Chico Buarque de Hollanda) with Cristina

GalChicoClaudiaTelles

Hello, good evening! My turntable was upgraded with a new cartridge last week, using resources taken from donations to Loronix. Thanks a million for your contributions. The new cartridge brings several benefits, and the most important one is to make possible to play several singles that I could not spin correctly with the old one, such like these ones, featuring three renowned artists, made available as a single album. Let’s see.

This is Gal Costa, Chico Buarque & Claudia Telles – Singles, featuring six tracks taken from three singles. The first one is Gal Costa at Philips as 365.306, released in 1970. Chico Buarque de Hollanda comes with our second single, released by RGE as RGE-4.479 with no release date information. Claudia Telles is our third single, for Columbia as BSO-13680, 1976. You can check each single detail at the panorama image bellow, just before track listing. Tracks include:
01 – Gal Costa – London, London (Caetano Veloso)

Here we have a truly awesome album, easily on any top ten listing of Brazilian popular music records from the 70’s. I had a great time listening Meus Caros Amigos today, and it was not necessary to spin it to remember theses songs, they were all inside my head, including arrangements. It is also unbelievable that has gone out of print at Amazon.com. Loronix does not have much from Chico Buarque and I’m really happy to include this fantastic album on our archives.

This is Chico Buarque – Meus Caros Amigos (1976), for Philips. It is not necessary to understand Portuguese to get the most from this album, recorded while Chico Buarque was exiled from Brazil and brings a strong and very intelligent dissatisfaction message to Brazilian dictatorship government of that time. This is the kind of album where everything really goes right, from the repertoire selection to the arrangements in charge of Francis Hime, Luiz Claudio Ramos and Perinho Albuquerque, leading a constellation of Brazilian musicians. Tracks include:

Chico Buarque & Ennio Morricone – Sonho de um Carnaval (1970)

AdHoc is a really special contributor that takes me by surprise every time, being impossible to guess what comes next from his collection. What amazes me most from AdHoc is the always-perfect quality of his cover scans and his flawless transfers. Additionally, AdHoc includes information that is not available anywhere. I’m only an operator with AdHoc posts, a very happy operator by the way. Take this album by example, I never heard about such music. Thanks AdHoc. Let’s see.

This is Chico Buarque & Ennio Morricone – Sonho de um Carnaval (1970), released in 2000 by Rym Music. There is a wonderful story about this album and a strong connection with another record by Chico Buarque & Ennio Morricone, Per Un Pugno di Samba (1970), already available at Loronix.

Per un Pugno di Samba has Italian lyrics and was released only in Italy, since the record company executives did not see any commercial perspective to release an album with Italian lyrics outside Italy. The album was not successful from a commercial standpoint when released and was not issued in Brazil or any other country. However, as time goes by, Per un Pugno di Samba became a mania among collectors and fans.

What I did not know and AdHoc told me is: Chico Buarque recorded in that same 1970 session, Portuguese lyrics on top of the original Per un Pugno di Samba album. This “version” with Portuguese Lyrics was not released until the year of 2000, when this French label Rym Music made it available in France as Chico Buarque & Ennio Morricone – Sonho de um Carnaval. I never heard about this and probably you did not also. Thanks AdHoc for another strike. This album is now out of print and I think it was not released in any other country besides France. Loronixers should appreciate this really wonderful find, as I did today when you sent it. Tracks include:

01 – Roda Viva (Chico Buarque)
02 – Samba e Amor (Chico Buarque)
03 – Sonho de um Carnaval (Chico Buarque)
04 – Ela Desatinou (Chico Buarque)
05 – Nao Fala de Maria (Chico Buarque)
06 – Funeral de um Lavrador (Chico Buarque / Joao Cabral de Melo Neto)
07 – Mulher (Chico Buarque)
08 – Umas e Outras (Chico Buarque)
09 – Quem te viu Quem te Ve (Chico Buarque)
10 – Nicanor (Chico Buarque)

Hello, Good Evening! Brazilian popular music on recording will not be complete if you don’t mention this fantastic initiative. Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira – Serie Grandes Compositores is a series of 50 albums released in 1982 and 1983 by Editora Abril portraying Brazilian composers on each edition and special releases dedicated to styles, such as: Samba and Choro.

I can remember how the siries was commercialized, as far as I know, it was not made available on records stores, but in newspapers stands. Actually, each edition can be considered as a magazine with a LP inside. I remember this time. It was a party at home. Twice a month we had a new edition and I could complete the whole series. Unfortunately, I lost all the albums and the only survivor is this one. I remember, each volume had color pictures, reviews, bios and music, very well produced. I was even thinking about a jointly effort to gather the whole series. Let’s see.

This is Chico Buarque – Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira – Serie Grandes Compositores (1982), featuring a compilation of Chico Buarque repertoire performed by Chico Buarque and others, such as Nara Leao, Caetano Veloso, MPB-4, Milton Nascimento, Simone and Gal Costa. Tracks include:

This is the original soundtrack of a movie film based on the musical play “Pobre Menina Rica” written by Vinícius de Moraes and Carlos Lyra. For those who never had contact with the play, it tells the story of people from favelas in Rio de Janeiro occupying an empty building and establishing a new society there. Anyway, the play understanding is not a pre requisite, you can have high quality entertainment only with the soundtrack, featuring several Brazilian artists under the musical direction of Maestro Antonio Carlos Jobim.

This is Para Viver um Grande Amor – OST (1983), for Columbia, featuring Dori Caymmi (great artist and a missing piece at Loronix), Djavan, Olivia Byington, Elba Ramalho, Sergio Ricardo and Zeze Mota. Djavan is also the movie main performer, sharing this role with one of the most beautiful woman in Brazil, Patricia Pillar. Compositions by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Carlos Lyra and Chico Buarque de Hollanda with arrangements by Eduardo Souto Neto. We cannot go wrong with this great soundtrack of a great movie. Tracks include:

01 – Samba do Carioca (Vinicius de Moraes / Carlos Lyra) – Dori Caymmi
02 – Sabe Você (Vinicius de Moraes / Carlos Lyra) – Djavan
03 – Sinhazinha (Despertar) (Chico Buarque) – Zezé Motta
04 – Desejo (Djavan) – Djavan
05 – A Violeira (Tom Jobim / Chico Buarque) Elba Ramalho
06 – Imagina (Tom Jobim / Chico Buarque) – Djavan & Olivia Byington
07 – Tanta Saudade (Djavan / Chico Buarque) – Djavan
08 – A Primavera (Vinicius de Moraes / Carlos Lyra) – Olivia Byington
09 – Sinhazinha (Despedida) (Chico Buarque) – Olivia Byington

Loronix friends from Italy are different from the other countries; they are not concentrated on a given city, but almost equally distributed on 56 cities. Milan (23%) and Rome (13%) are the cities that gave us more visits last year. I think Italy has several nice Brazilian music treasures to reveal. We had recently a music video with Dorival Caymmi and Joao Gilberto recorded in Rome and I have just received a last minute contribution of another Italian singer called Mina with the album Mina in Brasil.

Among several friends of Loronix in Italy, I would like to highlight mrenzy, not active on public, but with a continuous and friendly participation in the background. Thanks all friends from Italy for this fantastic first year of Loronix.

Thanks, zecalouro

This is a non-planned post, not supposed to be released today, but I could not keep waiting longer. I cannot remember by heart a similar acclamation received by the first Messias LP, Messias – O Melhor de Antonio Carlos Jobim Interpretado por Messias (1968), a fantastic contribution of Caetano Rodrigues. The effort made to bring more information about Messias by Loronixers was also great, now we know much more and there is more to come, if you check Bossa On-Line you will see several obscure Messias albums that are not that easy to find and were probably released in Japan.

This is Messias – Messias e a Musica de Chico Buarque de Hollanda (1967), for RCA Victor, Messias debut LP. By the cover artwork, Messias had probably teamed with Chico Buarque for the recording session. This album is the outcome of the collaboration between Loronix andMicrogrooves of Simon Boutman, which I want to say thanks for making available his music to our community. Tracks include:
