ElizethCardoso-Inverno

Hello, good evening! I was busy tonight, working on new features to Loronix, which is an update and a complete redesign of our album search application, Loronix Find it. I like to develop new things to Loronix. It is very important to improve Loronix on regular basis. It is also very fun to make such things. So fun, I miss the time for this update. By the way, a required upgrade of a really solid album released in the end of 2006, and recorded by one of my favorite singers, Elizeth Cardoso. Let’s see.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – O Inverno do Meu Tempo (1979), for Som Livre, featuring Elizeth Cardoso backed by a breathtaking cast of musicians, including Baden Powell performing his composition Velho Amigo on track 11. It is fantastic how Elizeth Cardoso delivers an above the average performance in such period of her career. She seems to be always in control of everything, from the repertoire to musicians she gathers to recording sessions. I’m tired to research, but I cannot remember a CD reissue of this classic album. Tracks include:

Elizeth Cardoso - Grandes Momentos Com Elizeth Cardoso

It is surprising that we still have Elizeth Cardoso albums not yet shown at Loronix and also out of print. This album was kept on “waiting position” for a long time; I thought it was only a compilation of her best songs released in the 78 RPM format. I decided to compare these recordings with their respective 78rpm releases and could easily understand that Grandes Momentos com Elizeth Cardoso is a career album with new recordings of her major success in 78s. Once again, Elizeth Cardoso delivers a lovely record featuring the artistic direction of Moacyr Silva, who also puts his tenor sax to play. When Elizeth Cardoso and Moacyr Silva work together it is a failure proof mission. Let’s see.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Grandes Momentos com Elizeth Cardoso (1962), for Copacabana, featuring new recording of very old Elizeth Cardoso cuts. I think you will feel uncomfortable as I was reading “ELIZETE” instead of “ELIZETH” as we are used. This is not an error; Elizeth Cardoso only adopted the “TH” in 1966. Copacabana did not credit musicians in this session. Tracks include:

01 – Canção de Amor (Chocolate / Elano de Paula)
02 – Caixa Postal Zero Zero (Oscar Bellandi / Luis de França)
03 – Subúrbio (Luis Antônio)
04 – O Amor É Uma Canção (José Maria de Abreu / Jair Amorim)
05 – Se Eu Pudesse (José Maria de Abreu / Jair Amorim)
06 – Dá-me Tuas Mãos (Erasmo Silva / Jorge de Castro)
07 – Graças a Deus (Carioca)
08 – Nunca É Tarde (João Pinto)
09 – Venho de Longe (Dermeval Fonseca / Alberto Ribeiro)
10 – Seresteiro (Zé Keti / Renato Lima / Tufic Lauar)

Elizeth Cardoso - Fim De Noite

Finally, Fim de Noite arrives at Loronix. Once again by the tireless Jorge Mello, continuously showing the great passion he has for Brazilian music, knowledge and a sincere sharing spirit by make available to us fantastic picks taken from his personal collection. Everybody know I was hunting this one to replace my own copy, terrible scratch and impossible to make an acceptable transfer. Fim de Noite was recorded in 1957, the same year of another Elizeth Cardoso album that is one of my favorites, Noturno. Let’s see.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Fim de Noite (1957), for Copacabana. I don’t know which one was first released or recorded, probably Fim de Noite came first as it was released on 10-inch. Both are very similar, but Fim de Noite has a dark atmosphere, sometimes sad and with a strange beauty that is very difficult to resist. Tracks include:

01 – Na Madrugada (Betinho / Heitor Carrilo)
02 – Último Desejo (Noel Rosa)
03 – Velhas Memórias (Lombardi Filho / Pedro Rogerio)
04 – Prece ao Vento (Gilvan Chaves / Fernando Luis / Alcyr Pires Vermelho)
05 – Amor Oculto (José Saleme / Lucas Vieira)
06 – Feitio de Oração (Vadico / Noel Rosa / Vadico)
07 – O Amor É Fado (Mirabeau / Don Madrid)
08 – No Rancho Fundo (Ary Barroso / Lamartine Babo)

Elizeth Cardoso & Moacyr Silva - A Meiga Elizete, No. 3

This album brings a blend of elements that guarantee flawless and solid listen. The first is Elizeth Cardoso singing Sambas in another record from the A Meiga Elizeth series, which totals five albums, having in common the direction and participation of the legendary Moacyr Silva, which is the second element of the combination. The third element is something to be confirmed, but I bet all my coins that Walter Wanderley takes part at this session, as well some others from the same A Meiga Elizeth series. Everything works really nice here, except this little inspired cover artwork, unlike other Elizeth Cardoso releases for Copacabana, the record company that released almost all LPs recorded by Elizeth Cardoso. Let’s see.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – A Meiga Elizeth Nr. 3 (1963), for Copacabana, featuring Moacyr Silva as producer and tenor sax in some tracks. AdHoc says that every Elizeth Cardoso album is worth checking, which is something that I agree a hundred percent. Give this one a try and don’t miss the restoration status update post, bringing daily updates on weeks already restored and improved with large deluxe cover scans. Tracks include:

01 – Deixa a Nega Gingar (Luis Cláudio)
02 – Só Eu Sei de Mim (Luis Reis / Haroldo Barbosa)
03 – Leilão (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
04 – Saudade Particular (Manoel da Conceição / Lolita França)
05 – A Abelha (Paulo Valdez / Vera Brasil)
06 – Rimas de Ninguém (Vera Brasil)
07 – Canção da Manhã Feliz (Luis Reis / Haroldo Barbosa)
08 – Na Cadência do Samba (Ataulfo Alves / Paulo Gesta)
09 – Eu Quero Amar (Romeo Nunes / Nilton Pereira)
10 – Se Vale a Pena (João Roberto Kelly)
11 – Vai Jangada (Laís Antunes)
12 – Olhar Só Por Olhar (Tito Madi)

Elizeth Cardoso & Moacyr Silva - Sax Voz

This is one of those albums were nothing goes wrong, especially if you are a fan of Elizeth Cardoso or Moacyr Silva. For those who are members of both fan clubs – such like me – this album is real treat. What can go wrong with a record that brings together the voice of one of the greatest Brazilian divas and the awesome Moacyr Silva tenor sax? I think only zecalouro can jeopardize this post, making some his unforgiving mistakes. Let’s see.

This is Elizeth Cardoso | Moacyr Silva – Sax Voz (1960), for Copacabana, featuring 14 tracks with Elizeth Cardoso performing with Moacyr Silva on the odd tracks and Moacyr Silva and his Conjunto performing instrumental renditions of American standards on the even tracks. Moacyr Silva brought a constellation of Brazilian musicians in this session, including his favorite pianist Chaim Lewak, Jorge Marinho, Aurino, Julinho, Waltel Branco, among many others. Sax Voz has a continuation titled Sax Voz Nr. 2, released in 1961 for the same Copacabana label, our next target. Tracks include:

Elizeth Cardoso - Feito em Casa (1974)

Hello, good evening! Today I decided to pick up one of my first vinyl transfers at Loronix and made it again, just to see if my skills were improved after making several others transfers across the last year. My choice was this fantastic and underrated Elizeth Cardoso LP, released in 1974 at Copacabana. I read that Joao Gilberto reaches his magnificent guitar playing and interpretation using repetitions and repetition really makes you perform better. This reposting is the outcome with improvements on music and also front and back cover scans. I’m gathering my first April 1 2007 writing. Let’s see.

Original writing

Let’s make a solid start today posting a album that is probably unknown to many friends, recorded by one of the most loved female singer at Loronix, Elizeth Cardoso.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Feito em Casa (1974), for Copacabana, all about Samba from start to end with Elizeth Cardoso delivering all her vocal tricks, accompanied by a female chorus and arranged by top-notch Brazilian Maestros, such as Geraldo Vespar, Chiquinho de Moraes and Sergio Carvalho. Samba fans will be delighted with this album that reveals Elizeth Cardoso as a really nice Samba interpreter. The back cover has something never seen before, photos of all composers of the twelve tracks. Elizeth seems to be really in charge of each record she makes. Feito em Casa has also the mighty Moacyr Silva as production director.

I’m sending also a gorgeous video with voice and bass featuring Elizeth Cardoso and Luiz Chaves of Zimbo Trio performing Se Queres Saber (Peter Pan). It is not necessary to say, but I like to say if you forget, it is another Powered by Luiz Harding video. Tracks include:

Elizeth Cardoso - Elizeth A Cantadeira do Amor (1978)

I received a recommendation from AdHoc to look for Elizeth Cardoso LPs released in the 70’s and never made available before at Loronix. I want to say that AdHoc was right, this is the second late 70’s Elizeth Cardoso at Loronix and both are really pleasing. This one comes as a double LP, with 26 songs and 90 minutes running time. Elizeth Cardoso - Elizeth Interpreta Vinicius (1963)

ElizethVinicius-zl_1

Today was my Daddy’s birthday, a great day for me. He took one of his albums from his collection to make available at Loronix, but I arrived late at home after birthday celebration and I could not make the transfer on time. Anyway, not a big issue, since I’m making one of the albums he likes most and an awaited repost requested by many Loronixers. Let’s see.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Elizeth Interpreta Vinicius (1963), for Copacabana. The second cover belongs to the first original Copacabana issue and the first has Vinicius de Moraes and it is the one that I like most. Elizeth Interpreta Vinicius features Elizeth Cardoso performing Vinicius de Moraes repertoire with arrangements of Maestro Moacir Santos and the guitar of Baden Powell. With these credentials, I don’t need to set up a poll to evaluate if this LP addresses the preferences of our community. Besides the participation of Moacir Santos and Baden Powell, remaining personnel is so far not confirmed. Tracks include:

Personnel

Moacir Santos
Baden Powell
Vadico
Nilo Queiroz

Track List

01 – Mulher Carioca (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Pela Luz dos Olhos Teus (Vinicius de Moraes)

Elizeth Cardoso - Elizeth Cardoso (1976)

Elizeth Cardoso - Elizeth Cardoso (1976)-BACK

What else can I say about one of the greatest Brazilian divas of all time, Elizeth Cardoso? This album was not on my radar until AdHoc comes to me a couple of months ago calling my attention to it. AdHoc was right; this is another classic Elizeth Cardoso LP, recorded in 1976, demonstrating that Elizeth kept a high quality standard even on her late years. It seems Elizeth Cardoso was always in charge of every detail of his albums, from the repertoire selection to musicians and arrangements. Thanks AdHoc, without your hint I could not make this one. Let’s see.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Elizeth Cardoso (1976), for Copacabana, with arrangements by Geraldo Vespar, Nelsinho, Magro (MPB-4) and Chiquinho de Moraes, produced by Moacyr Silva, delivering also his beautiful tenor sax playing on tracks 03 – Cada Dia and 05 – Alternativa. Copacabana did not credit remaining musicians in the set. It is also unbelievable this album never had a CD reissue. Tracks include:

01 – De Partida (João Bosco / Aldir Blanc)
02 – Entenda a Rosa (João Nogueira)
03 – Cada Dia (Ivor Lancellotti)
04 – Minha Verdade (Dona Ivone Lara / Delcio Carvalho)
05 – Alternativa (Paulo Valdez / Otávio de Morais)
06 – Aviso (Flávio Moreira)
07 – Rio Seco (Romildo / Toninho Nascimento)
08 – Canção do Velho Cais (Candinho / Paulo César Pinheiro)
09 – Luzes na Ribalta (Vital Lima / Hermínio Bello de Carvalho)
10 – A Pedra Não Voa (Nanai / René Bittencourt)
11 – Somos Nós (Paulo Valdez / Lando)
12 – Arrego (J. Velloso / Andó)

Elizeth Cardoso e Cyro Monteiro - A Bossa Eterna de Elizeth e Cyro (1966)

backpartialWe spent a time today talking about each other preferences on Brazilian music and singers and I did not get surprised to hear from friends that Elizeth Cardoso is a favorite singer of everybody. People also says that Loronix was of a great help to drive attention to Elizeth and create a new demand and from my point of view, this is truly awesome. I include myself on this category, before Loronix I had a great respect for the Divina and now I’m a big fan. I could not make different today, except closing this beautiful Sunday with the great Elizeth Cardoso and Cyro Monteiro. Let’s see.

This is Elizeth Cardoso & Cyro Monteiro – A Bossa Eterna de Elizeth e Cyro (1966), for Copacabana, with Elizeth Cardoso, Cyro Monteiro and O Regional do Caculinha, performing in the repertoire of their Bossaudade TV show. If this Bossaudade TV show presented by the duo had the same atmosphere of this album, it should be a really great entertainment, the performances are great and Caculinha delivers a nice accompaniment with his Regional, making another Elizeth Cardoso album that really worth checking out. Now I understand why AdHoc has been requesting this album for such a long time. Tracks include:

01 – Nega (Waldemar Gomes / Afonso Teixeira) – Faço Um Lê Lê Lê (Luis Reis / Haroldo Barbosa) – Dance Mais Um Bocado (Henricão / Príncipe Pretinho) – Deixa Andar (Jujuba) – Já Vai (Rubens Campos / Duba)
02 – Melancolia (Denis Brean)
03 – Franqueza (Denis Brean / Osvaldo Guilherme)
04 – Primeiro Amor (Ismael Silva / Nilton Bastos) – Fui Louco (Alcebíades Barcelos “Bide”) – Nem É Bom Falar (Ismael Silva / Francisco Alves / Nilton Bastos) – Mágoas de Um Vagabundo (Walfrido Silva / Osvaldo Silva) – Tenha Pena de Mim (Ai Meu Deus) (Babaú / Ciro de Souza) – Vai Haver Barulho no Chatô (Walfrido Silva / Noel Rosa) – Vitória (Romualdo Peixoto “Nonô” / Noel Rosa) – Pela Primeira Vez (Cristóvão de Alencar / Noel Rosa) – Até Amanhã (Noel Rosa)
05 – O Que É Que Eu Dou (Dorival Caymmi / Antônio Almeida) – Não Ponha a Mão (Bucy Moreira / Mutt / Arnô Canegal) – Morena Boca de Ouro (Ary Barroso) – Eu Sou Manhoso (Vicente Paiva) – Mulata Assanhada (Ataulfo Alves)
06 – Beija-me (Roberto Martins / Mário Rossi)
07 – Se Acaso Você Chegasse (Lupicínio Rodrigues / Felisberto Martins)

This music video features an excerpt of a concert performed in Rio de Janeiro, September 1989 by Elizeth Cardoso and Raphael Rabello, which is in my opinion, one of the greatest music video available at Loronix. They recorded together a truly amazing album, which is the last album and the last performance by Elizeth Cardoso that passed away a couple of months before this concert in May 1990. This is a long video with 14 minutes running time, starts with Raphael Rabello performing solo before Elizeth reaches the stage to prove that she was really one of the greatest Brazilian diva. Really overwhelming. Hope uEnjoy!

This album is so far the greatest contribution by Dona Iara, delivering an Elizeth Cardoso album that I never had the chance to hear. By default, this record was clean as taken from Copacabana factory yesterday; I will not resist asking Dona Iara how she kept these records for decades with perfect condition. I feel very proud to receive her albums, this one is not so easy to find and is a really top Elizeth Cardoso LP. Let’s see.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Momento de Amor (1968), for Copacabana, produced by Rubens Barsotti (Zimbo Trio) and arranged by Luiz Chaves (Zimbo Trio) and Cyro Pereira. The back cover brings a liner notes written by Sergio Porto that explains everything about this album. Sergio Porto says this record is the first after a series of Elizeth Cardoso Samba LPs produced by Moacyr Silva and Momento de Amor represents a shift, bringing a repertoire of Samba Cancao with a very sweet and intimate interpretation of Elizeth Cardoso. Momento de Amor jumps at a top position on my shortlist of best albums by the Divina. Tracks include:

01 – Derradeira Primavera (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Chuva (Durval Ferreira / Pedro Camargo)
03 – Pra Você (Silvio César)
04 – Canto de Partir (Adilson Godoy / Vera Brasil)
05 – Momento de Amor (Adilson Godoy)
06 – Tristeza de Amar (Luis Roberto / Geraldo Vandré)
07 – Razão de Viver (Eumir Deodato / Paulo Sergio Valle)
08 – Lua Cheia (Toquinho / Chico Buarque)
09 – Pra Dizer Adeus (Edu Lobo / Torquato Neto)
10 – Carolina (Chico Buarque)
11 – Insensatez (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)

Elizeth Cardoso – Cancoes a Meia Luz com Elizete Cardoso (1955) 10-inch

I think I have a problem with the initial albums released by Elizeth Cardoso in the 10-inch format. Elizeth Cardoso discography features two 10-inches and my problem is the vinyl quality, both are quite damaged and the transfers I made were not so good as deserved. Actually, this one, Elizeth debut LP for Continental (1955), is at least acceptable. However, the second, Fim de Noite (1956), for Copacabana — look at your right — is really damaged. Perhaps Thiago Mello from the excellent Bossa-Brasileira can make it and share at his website one day. Meanwhile, let’s stay with this one, even with eventual hisss in the background, this album really worth. Let’s see.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Cancoes a Meia Luz (1955), for Continental, featuring a very young Elizeth Cardoso in her first steps, performing a nice selection of eight cuts. Little I know about this recording session, in terms of musicians in the set and arrangers, but Radames Gnattali delivers one composition by his own, track 08 – Pra que me Iludir, perhaps a hint for Cancoes a Meia Luz arranger. Tracks include:

01 – Canção da Volta (Ismael Netto / Antônio Maria) Samba-canção
02 – Nunca Mais (Dorival Caymmi) Samba
03 – Memórias (Hianto de Almeida / Evaldo Ruy) Samba
04 – Só Você Mais Nada (Paulo Soledade) Samba-canção
05 – Linda Flor (Henrique Vogeler / Luis Peixoto / Marques Porto) Samba-canção
06 – Se o Tempo Entendesse (Marino Pinto / Mário Rossi) Samba
07 – Caminha (Evaldo Ruy / Rolando Candiano) Samba-canção
08 – Pra Que Me Iludir (Radamés Gnattali / Norival Reis) Samba

I think we could not make better than closing this nice day with a solid Samba album performed by a duo. This should fulfill the needs of those in the mood of something very easy to listen and very connected with the music from Brazil. Actually, this is an upgrade of an already released album, now improved on graphics and music, including the FLAC files option, which is gradually positioning Loronix as a reference. Let’s see what we have here.

This is Elizeth Cardoso & Cyro Monteiro – A Bossa Eterna de Elizeth & Cyro Vol. 2 (1969), for Copacabana, the second of of two volumes of “A Bossa Eterna” LPs released by Elizeth Cardoso and Cyro Monteiro for Copacabana. The first volume should be upgraded in the forthcoming week. Elizeth Cardoso is a singer that does not need to be introduced, one of the greatest Brazilian singers ever and Cyro Monteiro is a renowned Brazilian Samba singer and composer, active between the 40’s to the early 70s, considered by Vinicius de Moraes the “Best Brazilian Singer of all times”. Caculinha e Seu Conjunto backs the duo; Copacabana did not credit remaining musicians. Tracks include:

01 – Meu Fraco É Mulher (Conde / Heitor de Barros) Doce Amor (Haroldo Lobo / Milton de Oliveira) Mulher de Malandro (Heitor dos Prazeres) Apanhando Papel (Getúlio Marinho “Amor” / Ubiratan da Silveira) Arrependido (Ismael Silva / Nilton Bastos / Francisco Alves) Embrulho Que Eu Carrego (Alvaiade / Djalma Mafra) Madalena Foi-se Embora (Antônio Almeida / Badú) with Elizeth Cardoso & Cyro Monteiro

02 – Louco (Ela É Seu Mundo) (Wilson Batista / Henrique de Almeida) with Elizeth Cardoso
03 – Certa Maria (Cyro Monteiro / Vinicius de Moraes) with Cyro Monteiro
04 – Prêmio de Consolação (Jaime Florence “Meira” / Augusto Mesquita) with Elizeth Cardoso
05 – Presente de Uma Flor (Cyro Monteiro) with Cyro Monteiro
06 – Quando Penso na Bahia (Ary Barroso / Luis Peixoto) with Elizeth Cardoso & Cyro Monteiro

07 – Nega do Cabelo Duro (Rubens Soares / David Nasser) Ando Cheio de Conversa (Raimundo de Melo / Nelson de Castro) Cansei de Pedir (Noel Rosa) Taí (Joubert de Carvalho) Não Quero Mais Amar a Ninguém (Cartola / Carlos Cachaça / Zé Com Fome) Se a Saudade Me Apertar (Ataulfo Alves / Jorge de Castro) Adeus Batucada (Sinval Silva) Arrasta a Sandália (Osvaldo Vasques “Baiaco” / Aurélio Gomes) with Elizeth Cardoso & Cyro Monteiro

08 – Sei Lá Mangueira (Paulinho da Viola / Hermínio Bello de Carvalho) with Elizeth Cardoso
09 – Saudade É Nome de Flor (Cyro Monteiro / Dias da Cruz) with Cyro Monteiro
10 – Não Tem Mais Jeito (Élton Medeiros / Maurício Tapajós / Hermínio Bello de Carvalho) with Elizeth Cardoso
11 – Coração Malvado (Cyro Monteiro) with Cyro Monteiro

There are several reasons for making this repost, but I will stay with the most important ones. This is the third album posted at Loronix, featuring Elizeth Cardoso, an artist with a great identification with this website. Additionally, as a very old post and an excellent album, deserves more visibility. The upgrade covers everything, such like improved scans, additional inserts, ripping, etc.

This is Elizeth Cardoso, Radames Gnattali & Camerata Carioca – Uma Rosa para Pixinguinha (1983), for Funarte, a tribute to Pixinguinha in the tenth anniversary of his passing, recorded live at Sala Funarte Sidney Miller, Rio de Janeiro. I think this album speaks by itself, a concert on a small theater that makes you feel the willing to travel back to the past and watch Elizeth Cardoso and Radames Gnattali performing together. Tracks include:

Publicado em: Tuesday, September 11, 2007 by zecalouro

This is a mandatory repost of a really important album to Loronix, released in the very beginning of our community. This post made me understand what exactly I could make with Loronix and what would be the website in the future. However, this is not only personal matters, this LP is truly awesome and everything works fine here. Strongly recommended for those who did not find it on archives yet or those ones who wants to revisit this album with major music and artwork improvements.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Retrato da Noite (1958), for Copacabana. Little is know about this session and this is really disappointing. Elizeth is backed by a “Conjunto” with no credit to musicians. The guys from Copacabana did not care with technical information on releases. In the other hand, they were masters on cover artworks, look at this one, Elizeth Cardoso challenges us in front of a drink with diminished lights and wearing a red dressing in the same color of the red rose. Who can resist? Tracks include:

01 – Madame Fulano de Tal (Aliança) (Cyro Monteiro / Dias da Cruz)
02 – Pela Estrada (Nanai)
03 – E a Chuva Parou (Ribamar (1) / Esdras Pereira da Silva / Victor Freire)
04 – Cansei de Ilusões (Tito Madi)
05 – Por Causa de Você (Tom Jobim / Dolores Duran)
06 – Bom Dia Tristeza (Adoniran Barbosa / Vinicius de Moraes)
07 – Neste Mesmo Lugar (Armando Cavalcanti / Klécius Caldas)
08 – Por Acaso (Nanai / César Tedim)
09 – Prece (Vadico / Marino Pinto)
10 – Sou Igual a Você (Alcyr Pires Vermelho / Nazareno de Brito)
11 – Conselho Inútil (Miguel Gustavo)
12 – Contra-senso (Antônio Bruno)

Here we go on another Elizeth Cardoso album from the “A Meiga Elizeth” series, kindly sent by moos to Loronixers. This series has five albums and this is the third made available at Loronix. Top-notch musicians, including a mysterious organist credited as “Sir Walter Scott”, back Elizeth Cardoso. By the way, this alias makes easy to realize that a Brazilian organist also called Walter is behind Sir Scott. Let’s see.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – A Meiga Elizeth Nr. 5 (1964), for Copacabana, featuring Moacyr Silva e Seu Conjunto. Thanks once again moos, this album is solid from start to the end. Elizeth Cardoso rendition to Ze Ketti song Diz que Fui Por Ai is fantastic with Walter Wanderley organ swinging a lot with Elizeth. Rildo Hora is a special guest on track 11 – Encontro com a Saudade, backing Elizeth Cardoso with violao. Personnel is credit this time. Tracks include:

I Loronix Singles Festival was a blockbuster, why not making another one for EPs? That’s the idea of this post, I Loronix EPs Festival, featuring only female singers. I think this one is a real treat, it starts classic with Elizeth Cardoso, visiting Doris Monteiro, a favorite of several Loronixers and ending with the amazing Elizabeth. zecalouro ripped Elizeth Cardoso, Trix made Doris Monteiro a couple of months ago and the great Moos sent Elizabeth and this truly amazing cover from The Netherlands. Publicado em: Tuesday, July 24, 2007 by zecalouro

This is a repost of a breathtaking album, released in the very beginning of Loronix and one of posts that made me feel gladder when I made it. Elizeth Cardoso – Noturno (1957) is really fantastic, it is the first 12-inch record by Elizeth Cardoso and has something very curious, some tunes were considered old at that time, with their first recording almost 30 years before Noturno release. In summary, we have a 50 years old album with 80-year-old songs.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Noturno (1957), for Copacabana. Even if you already have the earlier music from the original post, take this one. The music is improved and was taken by one of those last anonymous contributions to Loronix. There are songs of Noel Rosa, Custodio Mesquita, Ary Barroso, Silvio Caldas mixed with fresh compositions of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Tito Madi. Tracks include:

01 – Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso)
02 – Risque (Ary Barroso)
03 – Chove Lá Fora (Tito Madi)
04 – Molambo (Jaime Florence “Meira” / Augusto Mesquita)
05 – Feitiço da Vila (Vadico / Noel Rosa)
06 – Noturno Em Tempo de Samba (Custódio Mesquita / Evaldo Ruy)
07 – Se Todos Fossem Iguais a Você (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
08 – Chão de Estrelas (Silvio Caldas / Orestes Barbosa)
09 – Olhos Verdes (Vicente Paiva)
10 – Promessa (Custódio Mesquita / Evaldo Ruy)

Elizeth Cardoso – A Meiga Elizeth (1960)

23 04 2012

Publicado em: Wednesday, June 13, 2007 by zecalouro

I’m very proud of being the owner of the original Copacabana 1960 issue of this album, by the way, I was missing Copacabana label at Loronix, their covers are always original and beautiful and perhaps Copacabana had probably the best cast of artists in the late 50’s and early 60s. This album was reissued in CD by EMI, which is the owner of Cobacabana legacy and has gone recently out of print.

I have also an assumption to make regarding this album, I’m quite sure that Walter Wanderley is the organist, the Hammond B3 organ is played exactly the way you expect from Walter Wanderley. If anybody has this info, please let us know.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – A Meiga Elizeth (1960), for Copacabana. A Meiga Elizeth was one of the most successful Elizeth Cardoso records, which is probably the reason of the “Meiga Elizeth” series creation. Moacyr Silva delivers always-nice musical and production direction, playing his sax tenor in some tracks. Caetano highly recommends this album and it is very difficult to hear such appreciation from his selective musical taste. I hope Loronixers also enjoy Elizeth Cardoso. Leave comments, please or rate this album at our new rating system. Tracks include:

01 – Vai Querer (Hianto de Almeida / Fernando Lobo)
02 – Projeção (Luis Reis / Haroldo Barbosa)
03 – A Noite do Meu Bem (Dolores Duran)
04 – Não Diga Nada (Carlito / Noacy de Marcenes)
05 – Tentação do Inconveniente (Manoel da Conceição / Augusto Mesquita)
06 – Tome Continha de Você (Édson Borges / Dolores Duran)
07 – Nossos Momentos (Luis Reis / Haroldo Barbosa)
08 – Sincopado Triste (Hianto de Almeida / Macedo Neto)
09 – Canção de Nós Dois (Vinicius de Moraes)
10 – Notícia de Jornal (Luis Reis / Haroldo Barbosa)
11 – Pela Rua (Ribamar (1) / Dolores Duran)
12 – Pra Quê (Ruy Rey / Emílio Batista)

Elizeth Cardoso has more than 20 albums available at Loronix and for my surprise none of this series of five albums name “A Meiga Elizeth” from Number 1 to 5. It is amazing how great is Elizeth Cardoso discography. Moacyr Silva produced all albums released as “A Meiga Elizeth”, guaranteeing some kind of quality seal throughout the series. Let’s see this first one.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – A Meiga Elizeth Vol. 2 (1961), for Copacabana. Back cover brings “Elizeth Cardoso e Conjunto”, unfortunately there is no complimentary info on members of this conjunto. Someone said also that Walter Wanderley takes part on albums from this series as a not credit musician, but I will leave this identification task to specialists, although I’m quite sure of it. Moacyr Silva sax tenor can be heard in most of the tracks and this is guaranteed. Tracks include:

01 – Deixa Andar (Jujuba)
02 – Revelação (Pernambuco / Marino Pinto)
03 – Moeda Quebrada (Luis Reis / Haroldo Barbosa)
04 – Ninguém Sabe de Nós (Moacyr Silva / Antônio Maria)
05 – Esmola (João Roberto Kelly)
06 – Meu Amanhã (Roberto Menescal / Aloysio de Oliveira)
07 – Tudo É Magnífico (Luis Reis / Haroldo Barbosa)
08 – Seu Olhar (Laís Antunes)
09 – Vagalumeando (Paulo Roberto)
10 – Nossa Vez de Amar (Toso Gomes / Manoel da Conceição)
11 – Cansei de Ilusões (Tito Madi)
12 – A Flor do Amor (Joluz / Waltel Branco)

Elizeth Cardoso & Zimbo Trio – E de Manha (1970)

Publicado em: Monday, April 16, 2007 by zecalouro

I never heard about a second collaboration between Elizeth Cardoso and Zimbo Trio besides Elizeth Cardoso e Zimbo Trio – Elizeth e Zimbo Trio Balancam na Sucata (1969), already available at Loronix. I was “introduced” to this album on an old vinyl shop in Copacabana. If you appreciate the first, don’t miss this one, recorded at the same Sucata nightclub.

This is Elizeth Cardoso e Zimbo Trio – E de Manha (1970), for Copacabana, recorded live at Sucata Nightclub as part of a show directed by Herminio Bello de Carvalho. It is amazing how this record quality is so good taking in consideration the resources available in 1970. Elizeth and Zimbo Trio can be heard together in all tunes, except tracks 05 – Zazueira and 08 – Casa Forte, instrumental tracks featuring only Zimbo Trio.

Luiz Harding sent a video with excerpts of the Brazilian movie Noite Vazia (1964), directed by Walter Hugo Khuori with Zimbo Trio in charge of the soundtrack. I think this video fits very nice with this post, you can hear Zimbo Trio in the background while watching performances by the legendary Odette Lara and Norma Bengell. Tracks include:

01 – De Manhã (Caetano Veloso) Exaltação à Bahia (Vicente Paiva / Chianca de Garcia)
02 – Ilusão à Toa (Johnny Alf)
03 – Travessia (Milton Nascimento / Fernando Brant)
04 – Eu Disse Adeus (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos)
05 – Zazueira (Jorge Ben “Jorge Benjor”)
06 – O Conde (Evaldo Gouveia / Jair Amorim)
07 – De Onde Vens (Dori Caymmi / Nelson Motta)
08 – Casa Forte (Edu Lobo)
09 – Faixa de Cetim (Ary Barroso) Morro (Dunga / Mário Rossi) Sei Lá Mangueira (Paulinho da Viola / Hermínio Bello de Carvalho)

.

We started the weekend with the repost of Milton Banana Trio – Balancando com Milton Banana Trio and we are now closing with another repost, by the way, a mandatory repost. This album has a very important role on the history of the music from Brazil and the music that connect our hearts at Loronix, the Bossa Nova.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Cancao do Amor Demais (1958). Recorded in 1958 by the small label Festa, Cancao do Amor Demais brings 13 compositions of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes and Joao Gilberto making the first recording of his famous Bossa Nova playing style. Antonio Carlos Jobim is also in charge of arrangements and piano. In spite of being a historical album, Cancao do Amor Demais is delicious to hear, even after 50 years. Elizeth Cardoso is the main performer and this is one of her best records I have heard.

I bought this vinyl a week ago in one of those hard to explain bargains This is not the original edition, but a reissue made by Festa in 1960, two years before. The back cover brings a wonderful hand write liner note by Vinicius de Moraes, included inside the music and so good that I’m making available here if you cannot wait. I hope you support these weekend reposting; I will focus on essentials and the already explained criterion of making it in an excelent quality. Tracks include:

Taking the advantage of the enormous success and feedback given to Caetano’s last RGE compilation O Melhor da Bossa, I will pick another one sent by the same and tireless Caetano Rodrigues. Now we go with ten Bossa Nova interpretations by 5 Brazilian female singers. Let’s see.

This is Cinco Estrelas Interpretam a Bossa Nova (1963), for Copacabana, featuring Elizeth Cardoso, Marisa, Carminha Mascarenhas, Morgana and Lucienne Franco. Perhaps I’m wrong, Copacabana label did not release much records like this, since this is the first Copacabana compilation I have seen so far. Anyway, really a nice treat to hear the ladies singing Bossa Nova and also hear for the first time the voice of Carminha Mascarenhas, never released before at Loronix. I don’t need to say that this is a really hard to find album provided by Caetano Rodrigues. Tracks include:

01 – Menino Travesso (Moacir Santos / Vinicius de Moraes) – ELIZETH CARDOSO
02 – Chora Tua Tristeza (Oscar Castro Neves / Luvercy Fiorini) – MARISA
03 – Ciúme Teu Ma (Walter / Joluz) – CARMINHA MASCARENHAS
04 – A Flor (Vera Brasil / De Rosa) – MORGANA
05 – Da Rosa Que Nasceu Nosso Amor (Baden Powell / Heloísa Setta) – LUCIENNE FRANCO
06 – Céu e Mar (Johnny Alf) – MARISA GATA MANSA
07 – Imenso Amor (Luis Bonfá / Maria Helena Toledo) – LUCIENNE FRANCO
08 – Cravo Vermelho (Pernambuco / Sergio Malta) – MORGANA

Some very nice friend, which I hope is not reading this post, has the same idea, every year, to put some kind of sound system, very loud, in front of my apartment, playing all day long the same song. How could people stand this? It is insane. For my disgrace, zeca is already singing together. A couple of minutes ago, when the music had stopped, zeca sung by heart everything. Every year I Google “parrot ear plug” with the hope of a heal. Nothing available.

Today we had two popular parades in Rio de Janeiro, very traditional ones; Banda de Ipanema and Cordao do Bola Preta, downtown. I was invited to go by a Loronixer from The Netherlands that is spending a time here. I could not make it. The last time I made such thing was in Salvador, Bahia. I spent 30 minutes to cross a sidewalk to another, so big and compact was the human being agglomeration. In the other hand, I kissed 5 beautiful girls that I never saw before.

This is Elizeth Cardoso & Banda do Sodre – Elizeth no Bola Preta (1970), for Copacabana. As I said yesterday, Carnaval is not my business and this is to address a Loronix recommendation, shouted yesterday. O Cordao do Bola Preta is one of the most traditional Carnaval parades in Rio, gathering in 2006, 200,000 people. This is a live recording of the parade in 1970 with Elizeth Cardoso performing only three, among several songs. No tracks separation on a really chaotic set. Perhaps this is a release only for those who are in the mood for Carnaval. Tracks are being provided with the music this time.

In one of those zecalouro’s flights over the old vinyl stores at Copacabana, he found this piece and although it is a record already available at Loronix, we have a mandatory repost here. Caetano also agrees that this LP is truly amazing and deserves a better place in 2007, instead of being lost on a given week of 2006. Additionally, we have now details that were not available by the time of the first post. I’m sure that you should be pleased with this release.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Muito Elizeth (1965), for Copacabana. Top three Elizeth Cardoso albums on her vast discography. The liner notes written by Herminio Belo de Carvalho is also a masterpiece and has a very interest statement when he mention the composer of track 06 – Amor de Carnaval (Gilberto Gil), saying that we will heard a lot about him in the future.

The production is in charge of Moacyr Silva and three combos, Som Tres, Luiz Loy Quinteto and Conjunto Regional do Caculinha, back Elizeth Cardoso. The album has a concept, showing tunes from Pixinguinha to Chico Buarque de Hollanda, approaching several decades. Pretty self-explanatory music from Elizeth Cardoso, one of the greatest Brazilian divas. Tracks include:

01 – Mundo Melhor (Pixinguinha / Vinicius de Moraes) (*)
02 – Ginga Muxique (Maurício Tapajós / Hermínio Bello de Carvalho) (**)
03 – Sem Mais Adeus (Francis Hime / Vinicius de Moraes) (**)

Perhaps this should be the first day that Loronix finishes with a video, zecalouro is sick and tired today, if I get extra strengths I can make another close, but I think it is better let you with this nice video featuring Elizeth Cardoso and Zimbo Trio, recorded for TVE (1970), they are performing Sei La Mangueira. I hope you have enjoyed the day, different day with Tom Ze and the hard to find Dorival Caymmi. Bye.

Ze Carioca good feelings are making me feel better, so better that I could remember to release the second part of this concert, pending for several months. I decided to make it all together with important quality improvement on the music.

This is an anthological show featuring, Elizeth Cardoso, Zimbo Trio, Jacob do Bandolim with Epoca de Ouro with a story behind. In 1968, upon encountering economical difficulties, the Museu da Imagem e do Som of Rio de Janeiro (MIS) conceptualized a show with Elizeth Cardoso backed by Jacob do Bandolim, his regional Época de Ouro, and Zimbo Trio, directed by Hermínio Bello de Carvalho, to raise funds for their important work preserving culture.

The historic show was recorded and released on two LPs, both presented here. This recording was made with used tapes – that weren’t new, blank ones – by two MIS engineers in seven and a half IPS (instead of the professional 15 IPS) with modest two-channel equipment. The albums sold 80,000 copies and contributed notably to save the museum. In 1977 a third volume was released with the subtitle “Fragmentos Inéditos do Histórico Recital”, but this is for another occasion. What really matters is right here on this really important moment on Brazilian Music history. Tracks include:

This is Elizeth Cardoso, Zimbo Trio e Jacob do Bandolim – Ao Vivo no Teatro Joao Caetano 1 e 2 (1968), for MIS. Really self-explanatory, stay with tracks and personnel. Tracks include:
