Rapidshare x Um que Tenha

10 10 2012

Dick Farney – Ao Vivo | Inverno & Verao (1986)

Publicado em: Tuesday, November 13, 2007 by zecalouro

We had a Dick Farney video a couple of days ago and since that day I did not stop thinking on releasing another Dick Farney album. It has been a long time since the last one, Dick Farney – Noite (1981), released in the end of August. It is a great coincidence to find this one, recorded live in 1986, which is the same year of the video presented. Let’s see.

This is Dick Farney – Ao Vivo | Inverno & Verao (1986), for Inverno & Verao, which is probably an independent release sponsored by Inverno & Verao nightclub in Sao Paulo. I have this album with me since reissued on CD in 1992 as Dick Farney – A Arte do Espetaculo, for RGE, but I always thought it was just a compilation. I’m really glad to find out that it is the same vinyl original issued in 1986, plus a lot of extra tracks filling all the CD with a running time of 54 minutes. This is a real find. I’m showing the original issue artwork, the reissue cover is not so good and it is completely damaged. Tracks include:

Personnel

Dick Farney
(piano, voice)
Toninho Pinheiro
(drums)
Gabriel Jorge Bahlis
(bass)
Hilton Jorge Valente
(piano)

Track List

01 – Perdido
02 – Copacabana
03 – Nick Bar

07 – Cassino da Urca Medley
08 – A Saudade Mata a Gente
09 – Esse Seu Olhar
10 – Alguem Como Tu
11 – Marina
12 – Noturno em Sao Paulo
13 – Ponto Final
14 – The Lady is a Tramp

Pery Ribeiro is truly a Bossa Nova legend. He was the first to record the legendary song Garota de Ipanema from Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes. Pery Ribeiro is the son of Dalva de Oliveira and Herivelto Martins, having a very early start as an artist, taking part on a Walt Disney Movie in 1949, Berlim na Batucada. His first albums are essential Bossa Nova items on every serious collector’s shelf. It is always a pleasure to show Pery Ribeiro. Let’s see.

This is Pery Ribeiro – Brasileirissimas (1981), for Philips, featuring Pery Ribeiro performing selected successful radio cuts from the early 80’s. I found this album abandoned at my mother’s home a couple of weeks ago and I had to manage a new problem to take it, Mom got a turntable and is now fascinated to play her vinyl. Brasileirissimas never had a CD reissue and I hope this one brings a nice time to Pery Ribeiro fans at Loronix, it is a long-time request. Tracks include:

Hello, good evening! We never started a day late as today, but the reason is not an ordinary IT problem and I’m really glad for being here to introduce new music to Loronixers, such as I’m doing right now, delivering the first album of a very important Brazilian maestro to our community, which is Maestro Oswaldo Borba. Let’s see.

This is Oswaldo Borba e Sua Orquestra – Baile de Formatura (1958), for Odeon. I had to do my best to restore this cover artwork, and I did not make it as deserved. I’m sure my poor skills on image processing are getting worse again. Anyway, as you can see at the marks on the legs of both dancers, this album spent a time under the water, but in the other hand, the vinyl was quite perfect. Maestro Oswaldo Borba delivers “Para Dancar” renditions of a repertoire based on Brazilian and international standards, with credited musicians this time. Tracks include:

Personnel

Oswaldo Borba
(arranger, orchestra conducer)

Edward Santos
(piano)
Waldemar Moura
(trombone)
Geraldo Miranda
(guitar)
Luis Medes
(trumpet)
Arcy Barbosa de Oliveira
(sax alto, clarinet)
Walter Rosa
(sax tenor)

Track List

01 – Rato Rato (Casemiro Rocha / Claudino Costa)
02 – Birth Of The Blues (R. Henderson / De Sylva / L. Brown)

Space… the Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before. Sorry about that, I love Star Trek, this sentence is the introduction of each Star Trek episode and it is all about this, let’s say, space album. I was looking for this upgrade for months and last week I could make the vinyl transfer of my dreams, including FLAC files and enhanced cover scans. This album features Baden Powell as sideman in a very early age and it is also Miltinho debut LP. Let’s see.

This is Miltinho – Miltinho e O Sexteto Sideral | Um Novo Astro (1960), for Sideral, a record label that released less than a dozen albums, which I do not have any info about and would like to know more. Sexteto Sideral features a constellation of Brazilian musicians, in the spirit of this “space” LP and I’m not sure if the sextet was assembled only for this recording session or was also in other Sideral releases. Baden Powell delivers truly amazing guitar playing here, especially on track 12 – Eu e o Rio, where only Baden Powell violao and bass back Miltinho. Tracks include:

Personnel

Celso Pereira
(piano)
Celio Damasio
(bass)
Jorginho
(sax)
Neco
(guitar)
Baden Powell
(violao)
Mauricio
(drums)
Humberto, Nilson
(percussion)

Track List

01 – Rí (Luis Antônio)
02 – Idéias Erradas (Ribamar / Dolores Duran)
03 – Teimoso (Luis Bandeira / Ari Monteiro)
04 – Menina Moça (Luis Antônio)
05 – Ultimatum (Waldemar Gomes / Alcebíades Nogueira)
06 – Triste Fim (Carlos Santana Lima / Jaime Storino)
07 – Mulher de Trinta (Luis Antônio)
08 – Fechei a Porta (Sebastião Mota / Ferreira dos Santos)
09 – Você Só Você (Waldemar Gomes / Luis Bandeira)
10 – Fica Comigo (Luis Antônio)
11 – Volta (Luis Antônio)
12 – Eu e o Rio (Luis Antônio)

The Brasileros – Bossa Nova (1963)

PhilMusical is a veteran blogger, owner and maintainer of Phil Musical Lounge Corner at http://philmusical.blogspot.com that was created months or years before Loronix, I’m not sure. Phil came out of the blue a couple of days ago at CBox with some offers to Loronix and I think he is delivering a great find to our community. In spite of this cover artwork, featuring a picture of an Inca warrior (perhaps Maia?) from Peru that has nothing to do with Brazil, this album is very, very, very good. Believe me, this is truly awesome and I could not wait longer to ask Phil for another vinyl ripping or additional info. Let’s see.

This is The Brasileros – Bossa Nova (1963), for Diplomat, featuring jazzy instrumental renditions of Bossa Nova standards, probably performed by US musicians, they are not credited and I could not find any further information about this little piece of great music. This is the kind of album that you will be spinning over and over again for many years and it is not one of those impossible to find LPs, it is available on e-Bay from many sellers by an affordable price. Run for them, I think people will run for The Brasileros as soon as taking this one for a hearing. Thanks once again Phil. Tracks include:

01 – Desafinado
02 – One Note Samba
03 – When Johnny Comes Marching Home
04 – Sugar Loaf
05 – Bossa Nova Blues
06 – Sazella de Rio
07 – Promenade San Paulo
08 – In The Shade of the Old Apple Tree

Hello, good evening! This is the first out of a series of posts provided by Luiz Harding with cassette tapes transfers of the Primeiro Festival de Jazz de Sao Paulo, held at Palacio de Convencoes do Anhembi, in 1978. Luiz Harding sent it in the beginning of the year and he will probably be really surprised with this post. This Festival is anthological featuring several Brazilian and international performers, such as: John McLaughlin, Tony Smith, Larry Coryell & Philip Catherine, Dizzy Gillespie, Taj Mahal, Patrick Moraz, Hermeto Paschoal, Egberto Gismonti, Chick Corea, Joel Farrel, Stan Getz, Al Jarreau, Peter Tosh, Milton Nascimento, Nivaldo Ornellas, Benny Carter, Jazz at the Philharmonic, Raul de Souza, Djalma Correa, George Duke, Etta James, Ray Brown, Zimbo Trio, Luiz Eça, Helio Delmiro, Márcio Montarroyos, Wagner Tiso, Victor Assis Brasil, which is the one selected to start this amazing series. Let’s see.

This is Victor Assis Brasil – Primeiro Festival de Jazz de Sao Paulo (1978), made available by Luiz Harding’s cassette tape transfer. Victor Assis Brasil is backed by Paulo Russo (bass), Fernando Martins (piano) and Ted Moore (drums). Luiz Harding said this Festival was broadcasted by Radio Bandeirantes in Sao Paulo and never had a commercial issue. The music is amazing, but the quality is not the same we are used to get with Loronix vinyl transfers. Take it from an historical perspective and thanks a million Luiz Harding for this sharing and also for waiting so long to see it released at Loronix. Tracks include:

Chico Buarque & Ennio Morricone – Sonho de um Carnaval (1970)

AdHoc is a really special contributor that takes me by surprise every time, being impossible to guess what comes next from his collection. What amazes me most from AdHoc is the always-perfect quality of his cover scans and his flawless transfers. Additionally, AdHoc includes information that is not available anywhere. I’m only an operator with AdHoc posts, a very happy operator by the way. Take this album by example, I never heard about such music. Thanks AdHoc. Let’s see.

This is Chico Buarque & Ennio Morricone – Sonho de um Carnaval (1970), released in 2000 by Rym Music. There is a wonderful story about this album and a strong connection with another record by Chico Buarque & Ennio Morricone, Per Un Pugno di Samba (1970), already available at Loronix.

Per un Pugno di Samba has Italian lyrics and was released only in Italy, since the record company executives did not see any commercial perspective to release an album with Italian lyrics outside Italy. The album was not successful from a commercial standpoint when released and was not issued in Brazil or any other country. However, as time goes by, Per un Pugno di Samba became a mania among collectors and fans.

What I did not know and AdHoc told me is: Chico Buarque recorded in that same 1970 session, Portuguese lyrics on top of the original Per un Pugno di Samba album. This “version” with Portuguese Lyrics was not released until the year of 2000, when this French label Rym Music made it available in France as Chico Buarque & Ennio Morricone – Sonho de um Carnaval. I never heard about this and probably you did not also. Thanks AdHoc for another strike. This album is now out of print and I think it was not released in any other country besides France. Loronixers should appreciate this really wonderful find, as I did today when you sent it. Tracks include:

01 – Roda Viva (Chico Buarque)
02 – Samba e Amor (Chico Buarque)
03 – Sonho de um Carnaval (Chico Buarque)
04 – Ela Desatinou (Chico Buarque)
05 – Nao Fala de Maria (Chico Buarque)
06 – Funeral de um Lavrador (Chico Buarque / Joao Cabral de Melo Neto)
07 – Mulher (Chico Buarque)

Elizeth Cardoso – Cancoes a Meia Luz com Elizete Cardoso (1955) 10-inch

Link original: Elizeth Cardoso – Cancoes a Meia Luz com Elizete Cardoso (1955) 10-inch
Publicado em: Sunday, November 11, 2007 by zecalouro

I think I have a problem with the initial albums released by Elizeth Cardoso in the 10-inch format. Elizeth Cardoso discography features two 10-inches and my problem is the vinyl quality, both are quite damaged and the transfers I made were not so good as deserved. Actually, this one, Elizeth debut LP for Continental (1955), is at least acceptable. However, the second, Fim de Noite (1956), for Copacabana — look at your right — is really damaged. Perhaps Thiago Mello from the excellent Bossa-Brasileira can make it and share at his website one day. Meanwhile, let’s stay with this one, even with eventual hisss in the background, this album really worth. Let’s see.

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Cancoes a Meia Luz (1955), for Continental, featuring a very young Elizeth Cardoso in her first steps, performing a nice selection of eight cuts. Little I know about this recording session, in terms of musicians in the set and arrangers, but Radames Gnattali delivers one composition by his own, track 08 – Pra que me Iludir, perhaps a hint for Cancoes a Meia Luz arranger. Tracks include:

01 – Canção da Volta (Ismael Netto / Antônio Maria) Samba-canção
02 – Nunca Mais (Dorival Caymmi) Samba
03 – Memórias (Hianto de Almeida / Evaldo Ruy) Samba
04 – Só Você Mais Nada (Paulo Soledade) Samba-canção
05 – Linda Flor (Henrique Vogeler / Luis Peixoto / Marques Porto) Samba-canção
06 – Se o Tempo Entendesse (Marino Pinto / Mário Rossi) Samba
07 – Caminha (Evaldo Ruy / Rolando Candiano) Samba-canção
08 – Pra Que Me Iludir (Radamés Gnattali / Norival Reis) Samba

Hello, good evening! It is a shame that Loronix does not have a career LP recorded by the Brazilian Choro legend Carlos Poyares, a very important musician with several albums recorded and countless participations as sideman on many other recordings. I realize this fault yesterday night when working on a list of Brazilian musicians being prepared for the project Musicos do Brasil: Uma Enciclopedia and decided to make it as soon as possible, opening the music tonight. Let’s see.

This is Carlos Poyares – Revendo com a Flauta os Bons Tempos do Chorinho (1977), for Eldorado, the first album released by this legendary Brazilian label, dedicated to instrumental music. Carlos Poyares started his career as flutist of Regional do Canhoto, being also an actor in the 60’s, always performing as flutist in almost nine films. Carlos Poyares dedicated his entire professional career to the Choro genre. Carlos Poyares left us very recently in 2004, at the age of 76. Tracks include:

Personnel

Carlos Poyares

Carlos Mafasoli Filho
(accordion, celesta, agogo)
Bernardo Cascareli Jr.
(cavaquinho)
Julio Mesquita Pinto
(violao 7 cordas)

This is the Explosion I was looking for. Inside this cute cover, we have one of the best Tropicalia album recorded by Gal Costa, several different atmospheres, Rock with distorted guitars, acoustic cuts with violao and voice, ballads and lots of experimental music. This is a very different album we are used to hear with Loronix and you will need several hearings until getting the whole spirit of Legal. Let’s see.

This is Gal Costa – Legal (1970), for Philips, a truly amazing Tropicalia album with a very reduced accompaniment made of bass, guitar (lots of distortion), piano, drums and piano throughout the whole album. A not credited musician plays accordion on track 02 – Lingua do P (one of my favorites), as well an orchestra and a brass section in some cuts. Track 03 – Love Try and Die features vocals of the special guests Erasmo Carlos, Tim Maia, Jards Macale and Lanny Gordin, which is also in charge of arrangements with Maestro Chiquinho de Moraes. I urge Loronixers to feedback this really unusual release. Check the panorama blending front and back cover created by Helio Oiticica. Tracks include:

Varios Artistas – Mais Explosivo! (1963)

Publicado em: Friday, November 09, 2007 by zecalouro

Hello, good evening! I found this album on an old vinyl shop in Rio de Janeiro for less than a Dollar. I got really excited by the title – Mais Explosivo! (More Explosive!) – and the cover artwork with the girl inside the bikini, the TNT gallon and the beautiful and colorful background. I thought immediately I had high-octane music inside and decided to buy without checking performers and repertoire.

Anyway, the music inside is just the opposite, a collection of romantic songs performed by singers from the “old school” of Brazilian music, such as: Cauby Peixoto, Angela Maria, Nelson Goncalves, Nubya Lafayette and many others. I decided to share it with Loronixers, it has nice tracks, some Loronix friends love this kind of music and the cover is really worth, but don’t let the cover cheats you as I was. This is a warning.

This is Mais Explosivo! (1963), for RCA Victor, a compilation of romantic tunes, featuring romantic singers, some of them never release by a career album at Loronix, in fact, most of this artists never had a career album released here. I’m listing bellow performers listing and tracks. Tracks include:

Ritmistas da Bossa – Balanco & Bossa Nova (1963)

Publicado em: Thursday, November 08, 2007 by zecalouro

This is one of the albums available at the fantastic book made by Caetano Rodrigues that I did not know. I had lucky to find it on a very good condition and the music is exactly what I thought it would be, renditions of Bossa Nova standards performed as Samba de Balanco. By the way, Samba de Balanco is defined as a variation of Bossa Nova for dancing and this is exactly what we will find here, very dancing tunes with lyrics. Let’s see.

This is Ritmistas da Bossa – Balanco & Bossa Nova (1963), for Musiplay. This is the first and only album recorded by Ritmistas da Bossa, a group made of organ, sax, flute, bass, guitar, drums and piano with not credited musicians. There are some very nice tunes, especially those ones with no lyrics. Tracks include:

01 – Vamos Balançar (Carlos Imperial)
02 – É Um Estouro (Jaime Silva / Neusa Teixeira / Luis Pereira)
03 – Pergunte ao João (Helena Silva / Milton Costa / Renira de Lima)
04 – É Pra Quebrar (Silvio César)
05 – Só Danço Samba (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
06 – Sai Pra Lá (Pereira dos Santos / J. Santos)
07 – Samba de Uma Nota Só (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)

Publicado em: Thursday, November 08, 2007 by zecalouro

Olivia Byington can be considered one of the great surprises at Loronix this year. Her first album with the participation of A Barca do Sol was released in the end of 2006 with a nice feedback from Loronixers, by the way, Corra o Risco deserves and upgrade and should be our next Olivia Byington album. Since then, we made available some albums with Olivia Byington participation until we reach the acclaimed Anjo Vadio (1980). Melodia Sentimental brings Olivia Byington in 1987 with some similarities with Anjo Vadio, such as the participation of Egberto Gismonti. Anyway, let’s see what Mrs. Olivia Maria Lustosa Byington delivers with Melodia Sentimental.

This is Olivia Byington – Melodia Sentimental (1987), for Continental. The Brazilian sax and clarinet player Edgard Duvivier has a major participation at this album, sharing production with Olivia Byington and writing most of the compositions. As told, Egberto Gismonti is special guest on track 07 – Caravela, while Jacques Morelenbaum delivers cello and keyboard player in all tracks. Remaining musicians in the set were not credited. Tracks include:

01 – Estrela (Edgar Duvivier / Manuel Bandeira)
02 – Como Um Rio (Edgar Duvivier / Thiago de Mello)
03 – Clarão (Olivia Byington / Cacaso)
04 – Desassossego (Edgar Duvivier / Olivia Byington / Fernando Pessoa)
05 – Secretária Eletrônica (Carlos Sandroni / Lu Medeiros)
06 – Soneto da Separação (Ronaldo Miranda / Vinicius de Moraes)
07 – Caravela (Egberto Gismonti / Geraldo Carneiro) with Egberto Gismonti
08 – Rubáyiát – I-II-III (Edgard Duvivier)
09 – Cartola Medley – O Mundo É Um Moinho (Cartola) Acontece (Cartola)
10 – Melodia Sentimental (Villa-Lobos / Dora Vasconcelos)

I had a hard time finding a suitable album to close this night, which I had a very good time putting in place. Three solid releases, starting with the acclaimed Lucienne Franco, reaching Bene Nunes with arrangements by Jobim, Gnattali and Severino Filho and closing with MPB-4 10 years celebration album, released in 1975. I think we will not go wrong this way, I could make the option for one of those essential repostings, but MPB-4 has not been released so often. This is MPB-4 – 10 Anos Depois (1975), for Philips, presented to Loronixers with an Argentinean issue, featuring the guys with bored faces. The repertoire features several well-known MPB-4 songs with Quarteto em Cy as special guest on tracks 07 – Pressentimento and 09 – Amei Tanto. Tracks include:

Bene Nunes – Bene Nunes e Seu Piano (1958)

Link original: Bene Nunes – Bene Nunes e Seu Piano (1958)
Publicado em: Wednesday, November 07, 2007 by zecalouro

This album came to us a couple of months ago via MailbigFile. I got really amazed with this nice cover with the piano, but I did not move further hearing or researching about it. I knew that Bene Nunes is a gifted pianist with participation on Bossa Nova, friend of the president of Brazil Juscelino Kubistcheck and husband of singer Dulce Nunes. I was speaking with a friend today and he said something about a Bene Nunes album with participation of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Radames Gnattali and Severino Filho and I instantly remembered this one. Perhaps I’m wrong, this is a widely unknown participation of these three great musicians and this is really worth checking. Let’s see.

This is Bene Nunes – Bene Nunes e Seu Piano (1958), for Continental, featuring Bene Nunes piano with orchestral arrangements by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Radames Gnattali and Severino Filho from Os Cariocas. I think I will only rest quiet when I get this vinyl, to take a look at the back cover and make another digital transfer. If the anonymous contributor reads us, please drop me a line, so we can get along to know more about this album. Tracks include:

Personnel

Bene Nunes
(piano)

Antonio Carlos Jobim
Radames Gnattali
Severino Filho
(orchestra arrangements)

Track List

This is the debut LP of an extraordinary Brazilian singer that record only three LPs in the early 60’s and just left the scene for reasons that I could not track down. Lucienne Franco was the favorite singer of many renowned Brazilian artists, such as Ary Barroso and Luiz Bonfa. Actually, she had the chance of making her first public performance at Friend’s nightclub with Ary Barroso recommendation and a contract with TV Rio channel with the blessing of Luiz Bonfa. I read several times that Lucienne Franco is one of the best singers in Brazil, unfortunately, nobody could tell me why she retired. Let’s see.

This is Lucienne Franco – Lucienne, A Notavel (1959), for Copacanana, presented to Loronixers with a Beverly 1960 reissue. Altamiro Carrilho is in charge of production and wrote a very nice liner notes describing with details Lucienne Franco first career steps. Maestro Severino Filho is in charge of arrangements, while musicians in this session were not credited. Tracks include:

01 – Vento do Outono (N. Wanderley / Altamiro Carrilho)

This is Orlandivo – Orlandivo (1977), for Copacabana, released in the middle of the Saturday Night Fever discotheque boom, a weird time to Brazilian popular music, when things such like Bossa Nova was only a vague and distant event, in spite of having this peak only a decade before. Perhaps nobody gave attention to this album by the release time and this is a wonderful demonstration on how to make dancing music with a very good quality.

Joao Donato is in charge of arrangements, delivering also his undisputed groovy piano playing on Fender Rhodes, organ, piano and clavinet. Additionally, Alex Malheiros and Ivan Conti from Azymuth were also in this session, everything detailed at personnel listing, just before tracks. Tracks include:

Hello, good evening! I spent a couple of months until decide to show this album to Loronixers. This is a perfect blend between popular and classical music and one of my favorites in the style. The title is big such as the music we have inside. The only issue, a major issue by the way, is the front cover. I got this album on a really bad condition and the front cover was taken away, my apologies for this one, it is the best I could make as a replacement. If you have a high-quality scan or even a thumbnail of this cover, please tell us, it will be really appreciated. Let’s see.

This is Paulo Moura, Formiga, Altamirro Carilho e Abel Ferreira – Paulo Moura, Formiga, Altamirro Carilho e Abel Ferreira Interpretam Vivaldi, Webber, Purcell e Villa Lobos com a Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira sob a Regencia de Julio Medalha (1977), for Som Livre. This giant title explains almost everything, we have here Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileira conduced by Maestro Julio Medalha performing classical music, four tracks with each one having the participation of the four main performers. I think it will be very difficult to appear another album with a bigger title, almost a paragraph. Waltel Branco was also in this session playing alaude at Vivaldi track. I really recommend this beautiful album. Tracks include:

Personnel & Track List

Maestro Formiga
Fantasia para Trompete em Re e Orquestra

Concertino para Clarinete e Orquestra
