Hello, good evening! Here we go on our Carnaval pick of the day, we will have daily Carnaval releases until Carnaval time. By the way, Carnaval is scheduled to begin next Saturday, which is very early from what we are used. I think this year zecalouro will not be infected by Carnaval music, there is nothing happening bellow my window and I hope everything stays silent in the forthcoming Carnaval days.

This is Os Originais do Samba – Alegria de Sambar (1975), for RCA Victor. Os Originais do Samba is a really special Samba group and I learn to admire their music with Loronix. They are really above the average of other groups in the style and this album seems to be one of their best releases I could take for a spin so far. Justin is 100% right when he says that mid 70’s RCA Victor sessions are superior in terms of sound quality, this is a very well produced album with arrangements by Maestros Wilson Mauro, Messias St. Jr., Ted Moreno, Elcio Alvares and Jose Briamonte, as detailed at the back cover inside the music. Loronix Preview Center brings the track I like most, 10 – A Dona do Primeiro Andar. Tracks include:

cvllos said bellow that I’m a tireless vinyl searcher, however, when I check my hunting list, I think it has more albums on search than the ones available at Loronix. Some albums on my hunting list I already have, but they stay listed waiting for a better cover, better media and even to replace a missing piece. This one is the last example and I gave up on searching for another copy. I will tell you what is missing on it. Let’s see.

This is Baden Powell – Nosso Baden (1980), for Atlantic. I like this album, Baden Powell guitar has only the accompaniment of Os Originais do Samba rhythm section, there is no bass, drums or any other electric instrument. It is a late acoustic album, a very common concept today. Baden Powell sings with his small and beautiful voice of his late years and Os Originais do Samba give some vocal support in some tracks.

This album was never released on CD and came with a single featuring Baden Powell performing an instrumental song A Estrela e a Cruz. The single was part of a contest, and the idea was to give a chance to everybody to be Baden Powell partner on A Estrala e a Cruz. There was a form inside the album to be fulfilled with your lyrics to the song A Estrela e A Cruz. Unfortunately, I don’t have this single and this is the missing piece of this post. I thought we could make the contest again using this single. I urge Loronixers to track this single down, so we can try to organize this contest 28 years after the first one. Tracks include:

Hello, Good Evening! Closing another Samba weekend at Loronix I would like to show an album that will make even the day of those how never were in the mood of Samba. This album is part of my childhood and as a little parrot I could not evaluate how these guys are really great. Os Originais do Samba are really “professional”, this album has nice vocal and instrumental arrangements and brings a tune that Brazilians will remember very fast. Let’s see.

This is Os Originais do Samba – Pra que Tristeza (1974), for RCA Victor. Quimsy would say that Os Originais do Samba delivers an infectious Samba groove. I will only say that you will kick around the apartment, reaching the ceiling at some peaks. It is impossible to talk about this album with no mention to Tragedia no Fundo do Mar, this music was really a blockbuster by the release time. It has been a long time since my last hearing and I thought it was more accelerated, but it has smooth and nice arrangements by Maestro Elcio Alvares with direction in charge of Wilson Miranda. This is the first time this Samba group is released at Loronix, actually the second, since they participated on a Baden Powell and Marcia live concert, Show Recital (1965), as side band. Everybody in Brazil knows who they are, mainly by one of its members that became nationwide famous in the 70’s and 80’s, Mussum, one of the percussionists.

Meet, Os Originais do Samba – O Samba e a Corda… Os Originais a Cacamba (1972), for RCA Victor. I’m amazed by the number of albums Os Originais do Samba released throughout their career, which started in 1969 with their first LP for RCA Victor until their last release, pretty recent, Os Originais de Todos os Sambas (1997), for RGE. Actually, they started in 1960 with the name Os Sete Modernos do Samba, changing to Os Originais do Samba a year later. If you are looking for an original blend of Samba with humor, this is the LP you should take. Tracks include:

Baden Powell is one of Loronix favorites; his discography is huge in terms of numbers of albums released. I have been trying to bring to Loronix only the records that have demand from you and also those ones who have something unique to show. This LP follows the second category.

Meet Baden Powell – Baden, Marcia, Os Originais do Samba – Show Recital (1968), recorded live at Teatro Bela Vista, Brazil. Here we have Baden Powell Quartet, accompanied by the singer Marcia and the percussion group Os Originais do Samba.

On side A, Baden plays and sings for the first time some compositions that would be played by him several times in the future. There is also an unique version of Berimbau that sounds different from the ones he would play several times in the following decades. On side B, Marcia and Os Originais do Samba enter the scene and the real fun start with Marcia female voice and Os Originais do Samba percussion.
