ClaudetteSoares-GilChicoVeloso

Hello, good evening! We made a small homage to the Brazilian diva Doris Monteiro a couple of days ago, and now it is time to celebrate another Diva, very connected with Bossa Nova keeping an active and productive career across decades. Claudette Soares. She started very early at 10 singing on radio shows, recording her first album, a 78rpm in 1954. Claudette Soares was also crooner of the legendary Hotel Plaza nightclub, a meeting point in the beginning of Bossa Nova years.

I’m taking a unique Claudette Soares release recorded in 1968, featuring arrangements by Maestro Rogerio Duprat and based on the repertoire of three young Brazilian composers at that time, Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque and Caetano Veloso. Let’s see.

This is Claudette Soares – Gil-Chico-Veloso por Claudette Soares (1968), for Philips, with the not credited participation of Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, performing with Claudette Soares in 11 – Clara (Caetano Veloso) and 12 – Yemanja (Gilberto Gil / Othon Bastos). We have a short and really amazing record here and you can call it whatever you want to call since it has several influences, such like Bossa Nova, Samba, Tropicalia, MPB, etc. My searches were not successful when looking for additional information about this album, perhaps Gil-Chico-Veloso por Claudette Soares never had a chance to be issued in the CD format, which is something I would like to see one day. Personnel listing was not credited by Philips. Tracks include:

01 – Januária (Chico Buarque)
02 – Lia (Caetano Veloso / Gilberto Gil)
03 – Frevo Rasgado (Gilberto Gil / Bruno Ferreira)
04 – Desencontro (Chico Buarque)
05 – Deus Vos Salve Esta Casa Santa (Caetano Veloso / Torquato Neto)
06 – Mancada (Gilberto Gil)
07 – Bandolim (Chico Buarque)
08 – Remelexo (Caetano Veloso)
09 – Domingou (Gilberto Gil / Torquato Neto)
10 – Lua Cheia (Chico Buarque / Toquinho)
11 – Clara (Caetano Veloso) with GILBERTO GIL
12 – Yemanjá (Gilberto Gil / Othon Bastos) with GILBERTO GIL

Claudette Soares - Claudette Soares

I was chatting with a friend and we agreed that this album is probably the best one recorded by Claudette Soares. We also agree this cover is the best of all reissues available where Claudette Soares appears with very different faces on each one. Claudette Soares remains in plenty activity, recording albums, making concerts and we need to remember in the 50 years of Bossa Nova that Claudette Soares is an important artist with a strong connection with the movement. I think you should give this album a try. Let’s see.

This is Claudette Soares – Claudette Soares (1965), for Mocambo, presented here by a late 60’s Beverly reissue on a very good transfer, taken from a really nice vinyl. In spite of being a classic album, little I know about this session, probably the first Mocambo issue has complimentary information on arranger and musicians. Anyway, the weekend is getting closer and I’m trying to accomplish another Samba Saturday. Stay tuned. Tracks include:

01 – Gente (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
02 – Chuva (Durval Ferreira / Pedro Camargo)
03 – Mar Amar (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
04 – Primavera (Vinicius de Moraes / Carlos Lyra)
05 – Barquinho Diferente (Sergio Augusto)
06 – A Resposta (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
07 – Preciso Aprender a Ser Só (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
08 – Vivo Sonhando (Tom Jobim)
09 – Ode à Primavera (Ely Arcoverde / Newton Campos)
10 – Tem Que Ser Azul (Messias Santos Jr.)
11 – Eu Só Queria Ser (Vera Brasil / Myriam Ribeiro)
12 – Razão de Viver (Eumir Deodato / Paulo Sergio Valle)

.

Este disco já tinha sido publicado no Loronix e, portanto, também aqui no Órfãos do Loronix. Acho que o Zeca tinha esquecido e publicou novamente.

Claudette Soares - Voce (1974)

Claudette Soares - Voce (1974)-BACK

Hello, good evening! Claudette Soares recorded her first 78 rpm in 1954, after starting her career on Radio, being recognized as the Princezinha do Baiao for her performances as a duo with Luiz Gonzaga, The King of Baiao. Later, she left the Baiao genre in the early 60’s to record her first LP for Mocambo, Claudette e a Dona da Bossa (1964). Since this debut LP recorded more than 40 years ago, Claudette Soares has an active recording career, performing until today. Let’s see.

This is Claudette Soares – Voce (1974), for Odeon. Although listed as “Voce” on every website I could check, the only reference to the word “Voce” is track 07 – Voce, by Roberto Carlos and Erasmo Carlos. Claudette Soares delivers a repertoire of ballads and romantic songs with her delicate interpretation and sweet voice. Maestro Jose Briamonte plays a major role at Voce, delivering arrangements and musical direction. Tracks include:

01 – Proposta (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos)
02 – Fraqueza (César Costa Filho / Paulo César Pinheiro)
03 – Adeus Maria Fulô (Humberto Teixeira / Sivuca)
04 – Preciso Aprender a Só Ser (Gilberto Gil)
05 – Tarde (Milton Nascimento / Márcio Borges)
06 – Nem de Ouro Nem de Lama (Ivan Lins / Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza)
07 – Você (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos)
08 – Seu Carinho (Ivan Lins / Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza)
09 – Suas Mãos (Antônio Maria / Pernambuco)
10 – Vestido de Bolero (Dorival Caymmi)
11 – Chove Outra Vez (Tito Madi / Romeo Nunes)
12 – Eu Ando Precisado de Encontrar Você (Maurício Duboc / Carlos Colla)

Singles and EPs, which I think I will call as Compactos from now one, are really cool. My decision was to make them in the weekends, but I cannot resist making at least one per day during this week. Let’s see what we have this time.

This is Claudette Soares – Claudette Soares | EP (1971), for Copacabana, made as a self-titled record, in spite of the original titled available at the back cover, very big, by the way, “Quem Nao e A Maior, Tem que Dar Mais Amor”. This EP has tracks from Claudette Soares – De Tanto Amor (1971) LP, 01 – De Tanto Amor, 02 – Amiga and 05 – Coisas, the remaining ones, 03 – Manequim and 04 – Shirley Sexy were probably first issued here. Roberto Menescal is in charge of production with arrangements by Luiz Claudio and Maestro Francisco de Moraes. Tracks include:

01 – De Tanto Amor (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos)
02 – Amiga (Roberto Menescal / Paulinho Tapajos)
03 – Manequim (Antonio Adolfo / Tiberio Gaspar)
04 – Shirley Sexy (Fred Falcao / Arnoldo Medeiros)
05 – Coisas (Taiguara)

It is disappointing when you do not give value to something based on personal criterion and mannerisms or taking the others opinion and the truth. That’s exactly what happened with the first collaboration between Dick Farney and Claudette Soares, Tudo Isto e Amor, Volume One. I thought Volume Two – made available a couple of weeks ago at Loronix – was the best album and I’m shamed to realize this week that Volume One is several times better than the previous one. Volume one is really nice and I decided to show it today to Loronixers, perhaps I feel better on making it.

This is Dick Farney & Claudette Soares – Tudo Isto e Amor (1976), for Odeon. Better repertoire, beautiful arrangements and breathtaking performances in duo or solo by Dick Farney and Claudette Soares. I have been reading today several reviews and this album is highly recommended, no exception. Dick Farney makes a fascinating rendition of Tenderly (Lawrence / Gross), made available bellow as a teaser showing Farney interpretations on top of images of Rio de Janeiro at the beginning of the last century. Tracks include:

01 – O Que É Amar (Johnny Alf)
02 – Minha Namorada (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
03 – Este Seu Olhar (Tom Jobim)
04 – De Você Eu Gosto (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira)
05 – É Preciso Dizer Adeus (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
06 – Castigo (Dolores Duran)
07 – Tudo Isto É Amor (Laura Maria)
08 – Fotografia (Tom Jobim)
09 – Tenderly (Lawrence / Gross)
10 – O Nosso Olhar (Sergio Ricardo)
11 – Somos Dois (Armando Cavalcanti / Klécius Caldas / Luis Antônio)

I just spoke with Caetano by phone and he said the next package – a special and very different one – would be mailed tomorrow, first time in the morning. Tomorrow will be another day of tension on a day that seems to last 48 hours. Several other things are scheduled for tomorrow and I think it is better stop talking about it now before I spoil Caetano’s surprise with my big tongue.

These phone calls are also useful to get recommendations from Caetano and this album was celebrated when mentioned, by the way, what can go wrong when you have Dick Farney and Claudette Soares together? I really don’t know.

This is Dick Farney e Claudette Soares – Dick & Claudette | Tudo Isto e Amor Vol. 2 (1976), for Odeon, the second out of two albums released by Dick Farney in collaboration with Claudette Soares. This is not about Dick Farney piano accompanying Claudette Soares, they are singing together and the duets are beautiful, their voices and interpretation styles matches nicely. Personnel is not credited, but Dick Farney plays piano for sure and the legendary Saba from Jongo Trio is the executive producer. Tracks include:

01 – Chuva (Durval Ferreira / Pedro Camargo)
02 – Nós (Johnny Alf)
03 – Demais (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira)
04 – Casualmente (Berimbau)
05 – Fim de Caso (Dolores Duran)
06 – Apelo (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
07 – Nick Bar (José Vasconcelos)
08 – Preciso Aprender a Ser Só (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
09 – Ela Foi Embora (Oscar Bellandi / Djalma Ferreira)
10 – Tomara (Novelli / Paulo César Pinheiro / Maurício Tapajós)
11 – O Amor Em Paz (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)

It is cold in Rio de Janeiro, believe-me. The temperature felt down to 20 Celsius, which is something equivalent to the North Pole for Cariocas. Caetano said that Sao Paulo had the same decrease, going down to 10 Celsius at night. Perhaps this is the reason zeca is in the mood of female singers today, cold temperatures makes you slow down. I spoke with Caetano about this second Claudette Soares LP for Mocambo and he said it is better than the first one, Claudette e Dona da Bossa. I like very much the first one, so I think this should make the day, the cold day of everybody.

This is Claudette Soares – Claudette Soares (1965), for Mocambo. This cover alone worth the admission price and there is a curious fact about this album, the back cover, taken for many people by mistake as the front cover, both are amazing. Anyway, tomorrow we will start some special posts on Loronix 1st year celebration that will last until Saturday. The party at Kiko Continentino & Paulinho Guitarra concert will put Loronix on hiatus next Friday, no major concern. I think you should deserve a break between to prepare yourselves from Saturday, a truly amazing day to Loronixers. Tracks include:

01 – Gente (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
02 – Chuva (Durval Ferreira / Pedro Camargo)
03 – Mar Amar (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
04 – Primavera (Vinicius de Moraes / Carlos Lyra)
05 – Barquinho Diferente (Sergio Augusto)
06 – A Resposta (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)

Hello, Good Night! 2007 is having a fast start in terms of work and Loronix. This makes zecalouro feels very happing and willing to share and work hard to make a better Loronix to all his friends. Some great stuff is being prepared by zecalouro to please Loronixers during the forthcoming half of this year. It will be amazing.

I received a tip from our friend Caio at CBox to post this LP, when I get back now to pick his name and write his line, the friend Lula asked if Caetano could give this LP to zeca. Very good and friendly conversation. Caetano has this record, but zecalouro has also this time. Let’s address these friends’ requests.

This is Claudette Soares – Fiz do Amor o Meu Canto (1976), for Odeon, Claudette Soares tribute to Tito Madi with all songs by Tito Madi. Just as Caio said, there are great arrangements supporting Claudette Soares interpretation for Tito Madi compositions, unfortunately, I could not track who is in charge of the arrangements. Anyway, this is a great start for this rainy Saturday in Rio de Janeiro that I hope you will appreciated just as our friends should. Tracks include:

01 – Cansei de Ilusões (Tito Madi)
02 – Quero-te Assim (Tito Madi)
03 – Sonho e Saudade (Tito Madi)
04 – Não Diga Não (Tito Madi / Georges Henry)
05 – Fracassos de Amor (Tito Madi / Milton Silva)
06 – Gauchinha Bem-querer (Tito Madi)
07 – Fiz do Amor Meu Canto (Tito Madi / William Prado)
08 – Chove Lá Fora (Tito Madi)
09 – Canção dos Olhos Tristes (Tito Madi)
10 – Carinho e Amor (Tito Madi)
11 – Há Sempre Um Amanhã (Tito Madi)

It was very hard to choose the best post of this Saturday. Really. It took me a lot of time to decide what sould be the best pick. I will not tell the others to do not spoil the surprise on further posts, they were all great and could be here easily.

For several reasons, the decision was Claudette Soares – E Dona da Bossa (1964), for the legendary label Mocambo. I took hours thinking to decide and now I’m having troubles on writing about this release. Anyway, perhaps it is another self-explanatory, full of classic Bossa Nova tunes, such as: Garota de Ipanema, Tristeza de Nos Dois and Samba do Aviao. Tracks include:

01 – Pra Que Chorar (Vinicius de Moraes / Baden Powell)
02 – Azul Contente (Tereza Souza / Walter Santos)
03 – Samba do Avião (Tom Jobim)
04 – Sem Você (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
05 – Ah Se Eu Pudesse (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
06 – Tristeza de Nós Dois (Durval Ferreira / Bebeto / Maurício Einhorn)
07 – Garota de Ipanema (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
08 – Samba Só (Walter Santos / Tereza Souza)
09 – Crediário do Amor (Theo de Barros)
10 – Bossa na Praia (Pery Ribeiro / Geraldo Cunha)
11 – Evolução (Pery Ribeiro / Geraldo Cunha)
12 – Conselho a Quem Quiser Voltar (Silvio César)
