Loronix has a very good friend that keeps a channel at YouTube with more than 400 vintage Brazilian videos available. I took three to introduce Loronixers to his video channel, Os Tres Morais, Doris Monteiro and the greatest one, Eliana Pittman and Booker Pittman, together on Brazilian TV, 1963.

These are very short excerpts, but really worth watching, mainly Booker and Eliana Pittman. Don’t miss Isquericrou YouTube channel, here.

Hope uEnjoy!

Eliana Pittman and his stepfather Booker Pittman recorded together an album in 1964 for Polydor, Eliana and Booker Pittman – News from Brazil, Bossa Nova, considered one of the hardest to find LPs in Brazil. However, only a few selected are aware of the existence of another Booker & Pittman release and this is what Caetano Rodrigues kindly brings to us, another rare and sought-after Eliana and Booker Pittman release.

This is Eliana e Booker Pittman – Eliana e Booker (196?), for Mocambo. I have been asking several collectors at Loronix about this LP. My fault, without knowing a great expectation was created by these inquiries, which is something that makes me feel really confident to say that only a few selected friends had the chance to hear this LP.

Unfortunately, the date is uncertain. By the way Eliana Pittman sings in this LP, she is probably less experienced then her performance on the previous mentioned News from Brazil, Bossa Nova (1964), this should be from the very early 60’s.

Anyway, if you are one of those who were tracking down this LP, here it is. Thanks to Caetano, he brings music that we probably never had the chance to get along before. Tracks include:

01 – Yes Sir, That’s my Baby
02 – Balao Apagado
03 – Love for a Star
04 – Bate que Bate
05 – Mamma Don’t Allow – Samba de Uma Nota So
06 – Luz dos seus Olhos
07 – St. Louis Blues
08 – Vou a Pe ate La
09 – The Birds and the Blues
10 – Mulata Assanhada
11 – Nao sei Porque

.

Este disco pode ser buscado no Abracadabra. Um detalhe importante: quando publiquei o disco News From Brazil, Bossa Nova, coloquei a capa errada e o link para este disco de 1962. Só agora percebi o meu erro e o disco correto foi referenciado.

Some reviewers says that Booker Pittman only got his fame and recognition due his collaboration with Brazilian Music in the 60’s. Well, I think that it was not easy to reach the spotlights in such a gold decade.

Two Booker Pittman releases are available at Loronix, the first, with his stepdaughter Eliana Pittman, News from Brazil – Bossa Nova (1963) and the second, the celebrated Jam Session, with Dick Farney. Now it is time to present Booker Pittman with a record of his own, Booker Pittman – Booker Pittman + Sax Soprano = Sucesso (1965) for Musidisc. Recorded in Brazil, this LP is produced by Nilo Sergio and probably has Brazilian musicians in the set. Unfortunately, personnel are not credited at the album, which is probably the last Booker record. Tracks include:

01 – Hello Dolly (J. Herman)
02 – Broadway (H. Woode / T. Me Era / B. Bird)
03 – What Is The Thing Called Love (Cole Porter)
04 – Ain’t Misbehavin (Walter / Razaf / Brooks)
05 – Lonesome Roas (N. Shilkret / G. Austin)
06 – Taste Of Honey (B. Scott)
07 – Balling The Jack (C. Smith)
08 – Petite Fleur (S. Bechet)
09 – Nobody Knows The Troubles I’ve Seen (Tradicional)
10 – Stereo Blues

Perhaps today is the day zecalouro is posting to Loronixers his mega-rare releases. Jam Session das Folhas – Dick Farney e Booker Pittman (1961) is very rare vinyl collectors item.

This LP was recorded live in the end of 1960 at the auditorium of a Brazilian newspaper, Folha de Sao Paulo. As zecalouro told before, Dick Farney was an outstanding singer and an awesome pianist who contributed decisively to the renovation of Brazilian popular music, incorporating jazz harmonies and style.

Dick was at the piano on all tracks, accompanied by Heraldo do Monte (guitar), Luiz Chaves (bass), Paulinho (drums) among others. Booker plays sax and sings on some tracks.

Eliana Pittman is the stepdaughter of the American sax player Booker Pittman. Eliana and Booker performed together for some short time in the 60’s. This rare LP, Eliana and Booker Pittman, News from Brazil, Bossa Nova (1963), is one of the few memories zecalouro could found about the time they were together as artists.

I do not have much information to present about this LP, what is already known so far is that Tamba Trio takes part on the set and the arrangements are from Gaya. If a Loronixer friend has additional information about this LP, let us know.

Better listen to it, a nice Jazz Bossa, very rare, even the cover artwork was difficult to grab.
