Hello, good evening! Here we have an album that does not need to be explained in details. Tamba Trio was one of the nicest vocal / instrumental Bossa Nova combos from the 1960’s and it is very hard to find someone that doesn’t have good feelings about these guys. This album was released in the middle of two classic and well-known Tamba Trio records, which is Tamba Trio – Tempo (1964) and Tamba 4 – We and the Sea (1967), for A&M records in the US. Thanks Jorge Mello for another nice contribution. Let’s see.

This is Tamba Trio – Tamba Trio (1966), for Philips, featuring Luiz Eca, Bebeto, Ohana and the participation of Orquestra Sinfonica do Teatro Municipal. I have been digging Google’s results for additional information about this album, but my searches were unsuccessful. I cannot explain why this album is a missing piece even in some important discographies. Anyway, there is a bad thing about this post. I forgot to transfer and include the back cover at the zl ball, which is a very important back cover written by Edu Lobo with detailed information about Tamba Trio and the new composers Caetano Veloso (05 – Quem me Dera, 11 – No Carnaval), Gilberto Gil (03 – Iemanja, 07 – Procissao) and Francis Hime (02 – Minha, 06 – Sem Mais Adeus). The back cover update will come tomorrow night. Stay tuned! Tracks include:

Personnel

Luiz Eca
(piano, arrangements, music direction)
Bebeto
(bass, flute)
Ohana
(drums)

Track list

01 – Canto de Ossanha (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Minha (Francis Hime / Ruy Guerra)
03 – Iemanjá (Gilberto Gil / Othon Bastos)
04 – Canção do Nosso Amor (Silveira / Dalto)
05 – Quem Me Dera (Caetano Veloso)
06 – Sem Mais Adeus (Francis Hime / Vinicius de Moraes)
07 – Procissão (Gilberto Gil)
08 – Imagem (Luis Eça / Aloysio de Oliveira)
09 – Pra Dizer Adeus (Edu Lobo / Torquato Neto)
10 – Tristeza (Haroldo Lobo / Niltinho Tristeza)
11 – No Carnaval (Caetano Veloso / Jota)
12 – Veleiro (Edu Lobo)

.

Tamba Trio - 20 Anos De Sucesso

Tamba Trio - 20 Anos De Sucesso-Back

Hello, good evening! Do not let the appearance cheats you such like I was when I saw this album for the first time. 20 Anos de Sucesso celebrates the 20th anniversary of one of the coolest Bossa Nova trios from the 60’s, Tamba Trio. What seems to be just a collection of Tamba Trio’s best tracks is in fact a career album featuring Luiz Eca, Bebeto and Helcio Milito revisiting previous released tracks and some never released before. In summary, Tamba Trio went to studio in 1982 to record 20 Anos de Sucesso, which is nice enough to make the day of Tamba Trio fans and casual listeners. Once again, I would like to thank Jorge Mello for another awesome finding. Let’s see.

This is Tamba Trio – 20 Anos de Sucessos (1982), for RCA Victor, celebrating Tamba Trio 20th anniversary, being the last Tamba Trio career LP. This is really unbelievable. Asa Branca and Lamento Negro were recorded live at Sonda 1999 night club, which is a place I never heard before, while the others were recorded in studio. I don’t want to bore you longer, stay with Tamba Trio and don’t forget to say “Thank You” to Jorge Mello on comments section for another great contribution. Tracks include:

TAMBA TRIO

Luiz Eca
(voice, piano)
Bebeto
(voice, flute, bass, alto sax)
Helcio Milito
(voice, drums, tamba)

Track List

5 na Bossa (1965)

5 na Bossa (1965)-BACK

Here we go with another essential album being reposted at Loronix. It’s unbeliveable this one did not have a repost yet, it was released in June 2006, one of the first albums made available at Loronix. Things have changed since then, the original post had a single file of 32Mb with ten tracks at MP3 format and now a single track on FLAC, 10 – Consolacao, has 42Mb. Each aspect was upgraded, including a better scan of this awesome cover artwork. Let’s see.

This is Nara Leao, Edu Lobo & Tamba Trio – 5 na Bossa (1965), for Philips, a live recording featuring 3 of the most groundbreaking artists of the bossa era. The set was recorded in one of the Bossa Nova temples in the 60’s, Teatro Paramount in Sao Paulo. I think 5 na Bossa brings one of the first Nara Leao live recordings, her voice is lovely as usual, but a little bit constrained in some tracks. She performs alone in four tracks and duets with Edu Lobo on Aleluia, which is the track I like most on this set. Edu Lobo performs on three tracks while Tamba Trio has two instrumental cuts and delivers accompaniment all over the session. Tracks include:

Personnel

NARA LEAO

EDU LOBO

TAMBA TRIO

Luiz Eca
(piano, vocals)
Bebeto
(bass, flute, vocals)
Ohana
(drums, vocals)

Track List

01 – Carcará (João do Vale / José Cândido) – NARA LEAO
02 – Reza (Edu Lobo / Ruy Guerra) – EDU LOBO
03 – O Trem Atrasou (Vilarinho / Estanislau Silva / Paquito) – NARA LEAO
04 – Zambi (Edu Lobo / Vinicius de Moraes) – EDU LOBO
05 – Consolação (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes) – TAMBA TRIO
06 – Aleluia (Edu Lobo / Ruy Guerra) – NARA LEAO / EDU LOBO
07 – Cicatriz (Zé Keti / Hermínio Bello de Carvalho) – NARA LEAO
08 – Estatuinha (Edu Lobo / Gianfrancesco Guarnieri) – EDU LOBO
09 – Minha História (João do Vale / Raimundo Evangelista) – NARA LEAO
10 – O Morro Não Tem Vez (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes) – TAMBA TRIO

Quarteto em Cy - Tamba Trio (1966)

There is no much to say about this reposting, rescued from June 2006, with the files hosted at the old Rapidshare.de and probably out of the sight and reach of many Loronixers. Such like Edu Lobo – A Musica de Edu Lobo por Edu Lobo (1963), Tamba Trio proves to be also a great backup band, this time with the Girls from Bahia, also known as Quarteto em Cy and their second career album. Let’s see.

This is Quarteto em Cy / Tamba Trio – Som Definitivo (1966), for Forma. Luiz Eça delivers instrumental and vocal arrangements for Quarteto em Cy. Do not miss Vinicius de Moraes liner notes at the back cover, now included as part of the upgrade. This is another of those mandatory and self-explanatory releases. You cannot go wrong with Som Definitivo. Tracks include:

This is a great Tamba Trio performance, but I had to think a lot before showing to Loronixers. The image is low-res, such as this opening picture, the sound is out of sync and the overall quality is really poor. If you mind with these issues, skip it. If you take it in consideration from a historical perspective, go ahead. Luiz Eca is all happiness, Bebeto swaps between bass and flute and Osmar Milito delivers solid drumming wearing a vest, his trademark. That’s the deal. Let’s see.

Hope uEnjoy!

I received some singles and EPs and I will try to make the ones that I like most and the ones with a cover artwork available. Several albums in this format were not released with cover art, they were made available on an envelop with a hole to show the label at the center, such like the old 78 rpm, really hard to identify. Not this one.

This is Tamba Trio – Tamba Trio EP (1965), for Philips, perhaps the first and only EP released by Tamba Trio. I could not identify if these tracks were released on regular 12-inch albums and I will let with you this investigation. Tracks include:

01 – Samba de Verao
02 – So Tinha de Ser Com Voce
03 – Reza
04 – Samblues

The last Joao Gilberto – The Legendary Joao Gilberto (1988), featuring three albums had a tremendous response from Loronixers. I have to admit, I did not expect much of it and perhaps will be the most downloaded of this month. That’s why I decided to make this one in the same style, featuring another Bossa Nova icon, Tamba Trio, one of the most acclaimed Brazilian Trios from the 60’s.

This is Tamba Trio – Tamba Trio Classics (1997), for Polygram, featuring 28 remastered Tamba Trio songs taken from their first four albums for Philips. I could not associate each song with these first four albums, so I decided to keep the original Tamba Trio Classics order. This is for beginners and Tamba Trio aficionados. Tracks include:

01. Desafinado (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)
02. Consolação (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
03. Garota De Ipanema (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
04. Mas Que Nada (Jorge Ben “Jorge Benjor”)
05. Sonho De Maria (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
06. Só Danço Samba (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
07. O Barquinho (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
08. Infuência Do Jazz (Carlos Lyra)
09. Reza (Edu Lobo / Ruy Guerra)
10. O Morro Não Tem Vez (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
11. Batida Diferente (Durval Ferreira / Maurício Einhorn)
12. O Samba Da Minha Terra (Dorival Caymmi)
13. Nós E O Mar (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
14. Batucada (Murilo A. Pessoa)
15. Tristeza De Nós Dois (Durval Ferreira / Bebeto / Maurício Einhorn)
16. Procissão (Gilberto Gil)
17. Minha (Francis Hime / Ruy Guerra)

There is a crazy story behind today’s last post. I would never remember to make this album again, which is one of the essentials records available at Loronix, released in the very beginning. If you get along with Loronix this year or in the end of last year, you will probably did not notice, since it is available far away on a given week between June or July, 2007. This is a required record on every Brazilian music collection and a mandatory update, now with high quality scans and ripping. The story, well, I’m not sure if I can tell Loronixers, so I will tell later on.

This is Edu Lobo – A Musica de Edu Lobo por Edu Lobo | Com a Participacao do Tamba Trio (1965), for Elenco. A detailed liner notes wrote by Aloysio de Oliveira defines this set, which is Edu Lobo debut LP. Tamba Trio delivers accompaniment and some backing vocals with Luiz Eca in charge of arrangements. I cannot wait to hear again the first track, Boranda, that alone worth the entire album. All songs are Edu Lobo compositions. Tracks include:

Personnel

Edu Lobo
(voz, violao)

Tamba Trio
Luiz Eca
(piano, arrangements)
Bebeto
(flute)
Ohana
(drums)

Track List

01 – Borandá (Edu Lobo)
02 – Resolução (Edu Lobo / Luis Fernando Freire)
03 – As Mesmas Histórias (Edu Lobo)
04 – Aleluia (Edu Lobo / Ruy Guerra)
05 – Canção da Terra (Edu Lobo / Ruy Guerra)

07 – Reza (Edu Lobo / Ruy Guerra)

Publicado em: Friday, May 18, 2007 by zecalouro

Loronix has been receiving new friends in the last week, on a manner that I could not identify; no major announcement was made on other community. Anyway, as new friends come that old and impossible to answer question comes again, which is, what are the best albums you recommend at Loronix… It is not an easy answer. I’ve been thinking about making a list, but the chance of leaving something out of it is disturbing. That’s why I decided to repost one of the first and most representative Bossa Nova albums made available, since I got it on vinyl recently on a very good quality.

This is Tamba Trio – Avanco (1963), for Philips, second LP by Tamba Trio, lead by the mighty Luiz Eca. Avanco is probably the album the best blends instrumental and vocal arrangements at Tamba Trio whole discography. Bebeto, Tamba Trio bass player and multi-instrumentalist makes the difference here, playing also sax and flute. Durval Ferreira almost makes Tamba Trio a quartet, playing violao in all tracks. Tracks include:

PersonnelLuiz Eca
(piano, arrangements, musical direction)
Bebeto
(bass, sax tenor, sax baritono, flute)
Helcio Milito
(percussion)
Durval Ferreira
(violao)

Track List

01 – Garota de Ipanema (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Mas Que Nada (Jorge Ben “Jorge Benjor”)
03 – Negro (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
04 – Mania de Maria (Luis Bonfá / Maria Helena Toledo)
05 – Vento do Mar (Durval Ferreira / Luis Fernando Freire)
06 – Sonho de Maria (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
07 – Só Danço Samba (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
08 – O Samba da Minha Terra (Dorival Caymmi)
09 – Moça Flor (Durval Ferreira / Luis Fernando Freire)
10 – Rio (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
11 – Tristeza de Nós Dois (Durval Ferreira / Maurício Einhorn / Bebeto)

I’m late and hungry today, my strategy of using the time today has failed. By the way, daylight savings ending still makes confusion on my routine. Anyway, while leaving for a quick snack, I’m showing Loronixers another great video contribution from Luiz Harding. Loronixers got amazed with the last Tamba Trio video, but friends are still crying for the original Tamba Trio formation with Luiz Eca, Helcio Milito and Bebeto.

That’s exactly what Luiz Harding is providing with this video. Thanks Luiz. Stay with Tamba Trio while I’m filling my body with nutrients. See you later and…

This is the first video I had the chance to see with a performance of the mighty Tamba Trio from Luiz Eca. Using my limited Tamba Trio knowledge I could not identify the year of the performance or at least a reasonable approximation for it.
I will let with you to find out personnel and performance date. This video was kindly sent by Luiz Harding and it is the first out of a very nice series. Luiz Harding is a serious researcher of the Brazilian drummer Edison Machado, being the owner and maintainer of a website dedicated to this Brazilian legend. Publicado em: Wednesday, January 31, 2007 by zecalouro

I was thinking about a repost showing something really great and solid to several new friends that came to Loronix in the last weeks. Tamba Trio was in my mind and I was convinced that we had no missing “essentials” Tamba Trio records to show. I was wrong. It is unbelievable that I never consider this great records, one of the best releases of this great Trio lead by Luiz Eca. This will be really cool. I hope you have the same pleasure hearing this album that I had to hear again and show to Loronixers.

This is Tamba Trio – Tempo (1964), for Philips, featuring Luiz Eca (arrangements, musical direction and piano), Bebeto Castilho (bass) and Helcio Milito (drums). I like to associate events and Caetano asked for saying to Loronixers to do not miss the concert where this LP was released, which is E Tempo de Musica Moderna (1965), here. For those who did not miss that nice Caetano’s release, it is now clear and easy to understand the association of the word Tempo on both albums. This is truly self-explanatory. Stay with Tamba Trio while I’m coming back to watch Wilson Simonal video again. Tracks include:

01 – Borandá (Edu Lobo)
02 – Nuvens (Durval Ferreira / Maurício Einhorn)
03 – Se Eu Pudesse Voltar (Luis Bonfá / Maria Helena Toledo)
04 – Barumbá (Luis Eça / Bebeto)
05 – Pregão (Sergio Ricardo / Carlos Diegues)
06 – Danielle (Luis Eça / Bebeto)
07 – Berimbau (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
08 – O Amor Em Paz (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
09 – Morte de Um Deus de Sal (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
10 – Yansã (Luis Eça / Bebeto)
11 – Consolação (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
12 – Moto Contínuo (Radamés Gnattali)

Well, I hope that Loronixers are pleased with the last Elis Regina in Tokyo release. Let’s move now forward with an anthological EP that was already released at Loronix on a very scratch copy, now we are making it again with the help of Caetano Rodrigues on a much better quality. Actually, the first release is so old that probably several friends could not had the chance to see it.

This is Leny Andrade & Tamba Trio – Compact 33 (1963), for RCA, with Durval Ferreira and the Tamba Trio line-up with Luiz Eca, Bebeto and Helcio Milito. You cannot go wrong with Leny Andrade and Tamba Trio. Tracks include:

I’m sure that this post will make several friends happy and excited. Thanks once again Caetano Rodrigues, this LP is really hard to find, a really sought-after item that you kindly provide to our community. Let’s see how Loronixers feedback on this post.

This is Joao Mello – A “Bossa” do Balanco (1963), for Philips, featuring Tamba Trio in all tracks. Joao Mello is a composer, guitar player and singer being also an important producer of several albums along decades. Another self-explanatory release awaited by many friends. Tracks include:

Mr. Magoo strikes again with another contribution to address a recommendation started at Loronix Forum by Mikail. Mr. Magoo seems to be the invisible connection between Forum Requests and Loronixers. Let’s see what Mr. Magoo has to surprise us tomorrow.

This is Tamba Trio – Tamba Trio (1975), for RCA Victor, I had the chance to had this LP before, but I made the mistake to take this as the same of the previous one for RCA, 1974, also known as the DC-10 LP. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think this is the last Tamba LP as a Trio, please correct me. This LP has also the participation of Joao Bosco, singing track 03 – Ou Bola ou Bulica. Tracks include:

01 – 3 Horas da Manhã (Ivan Lins / Waldemar Correia)
02 – Visgo de Jaca (Rildo Hora / Sergio Cabral)
03 – Ou Bola Ou Búlica (João Bosco / Aldir Blanc)
04 – Beira-mar (Ivan Lins)

People, have a seat to another fantastic LP by the great Caetano Rodrigues. We have been preparing this post for more than a couple of days and Caetano – with some zecalouro influence – has decided that today is the right day. First, let’s take a special attention to the story behind this post.

Picture yourself in Rio de Janeiro, 1964, the Golden Bossa Nova years. Tamba Trio has just released his third LP for Philips, Tempo. CBD executives, together with Mrs. Stella Marinho from O Globo newspaper, decided to make a partnership to work together on a charity initiative called “Ajude uma Crianca a Estudar”, to collect funds and help child education.

The initiative was launched with a cocktail at Leme Palace Hotel, followed by a concert at Jornal O Globo, “E Tempo de Musica Moderna”, directed by Armando Pittigliani. Philips selected the best available at the cast to perform the show: Copa Trio, Luiz Henrique, Os Cariocas, Rosana Toledo, Jorge Ben and Tamba Trio.

This is E Tempo de Musica Popular Moderna – Varios Artistas (1964), for Philips, with an interesting fact, this is probably the only recording featuring the legendary Copa Trio, with Dom Salvador (piano), Edison Machado (drums) and Sergio Barroso (bass). Copa Trio starts the gig and backs up the remaining artists on the set, Luiz Henrique, Os Cariocas, Rosana Toledo and Jorge Ben. Tamba Trio closes the party with four tunes.

At the end of the concert, people could buy Tamba Trio – Tempo to help children. What amazing day. Who was there? If any friend had the chance to attend this historical concert, please tell us how it was. The track list has 12 songs, I decided to create single tracks for each artist just to be convenient and do not break each one performances. Mario Luiz from Radio Globo, makes nice introductions hosting the show. Tracks include.

You have probably read on previous post that zecalouro has a very good friend that uses to place some recommendations for Loronix. Yesterday, we were talking about the essential Brazilian concerts, specially those ones where several different artists perform together.

These shows are legendary for Brazilian music and some of them are already available at Loronix. Check those out on previous posts. Do not forget to reach the previous months archives at the right panel. So, let’s get back with another and important one, Reencontro from Elenco (1966), an wonderful set featuring Sylvia Telles, Edu Lobo, Tamba Trio and Quinteto Villa Lobos, which is a woodwind classical group. The outcome is great, Sylvia voice is light and sweet, a young Edu is on guitar and voice and Tamba Trio takes the ownership of their mighty swing bossa rhythm section.

Nice blend of another legendary meeting from the 60’s. Stay now with Reencontro (1966), at Loronix.

Publicado em: FRIDAY, JUNE 23, 2006

Samba Demais, 1964, is Marcos Valle’s Debut Album. With the help of Tamba Trio, Marcos started his recording career putting the right repertoire of Bossa standards together with the cool atmosphere of Tamba Trio. The outcome is a Marcos Valle close to a high level as a performer.

Samba Demais also brings Marcos compositions, which would be his main quality further on his late 60’s albums.

Meet Marcos Kostenbader Valle – this is his real name – with the Debut 1964 Album Samba Demais.

Tamba Trio – Brasil Saluda Mexico (1966)

This is an unusual Tamba Trio LP never released in CD. Brasil Saluda Mexico, 1966, has Rubens Ohana on drums, which replaced Helcio Milito in 1964.

Brazilian Varig airlines logo is on cover again, Tamba Trio should have flew for free with this marketing. Once again, the information available is uncertain. Probably recorded in Mexico, since the songs – Bossa Nova Standards – are translated to Spanish. Tracks include:

01 – La chica de Ipanema
02 – Corcovado
03 – Solo Bailo Samba
04 – Consolacion
05 – Berimbau
06 – Desafinado
07 – Amor en Paz
08 – Samba de Mi Terra
09 – El Cerro
10 – Agua de Beber

.

A capa segue abaixo.

Tamba Trio – Tamba Trio (1974)

zecalouro have been with many Tamba Trios LPs and was almost used with the easy-listening professional jazz ensemble delivered by Luiz Eça and his crew. Tamba Trio – Tamba Trio (1974) is the exception. This record shows many different places, from some electronics, SambaJazz, Batucada, etc.

Surprise. Perhaps almost unknown by many friends at Loronix. This is a work of a serious Jazz Band.

This cover edition is sponsored by Varig Airlines that gave this album as a gift to their DC-10 passengers. Good times that will never go back again. Be happy if you get today a couple of peanuts with orange juice…

Tracks include:

01 – Se é questão de adeus até logo – (Dito – Tom)
02 – Não tem perdão – (Ronaldo Monteiro – Ivan Lins)
03 – Reflexos – (Luiz Eça)
04 – Gazela – (Arlette Neves – Bebeto)
05 – Mestre Bimba – (Hélcio Milito – Adalberto – Luiz Eça)
06 – Ossaim [Bamboxé] – (Jocafi – Antônio Carlos – Ildázio Tavares)
07 – Em casa – (Carlos Vereza – Luiz Eça)
08 – Pra machucar meu coração – (Ary Barroso)

Tamba Trio is easily the BEST Bossa Nova Trio from Brazilian 60’s. They were great as musicians – playing their instruments and making arrangements – an also masters on vocal harmonies.

This is a special post. I do not need to write a lot to describe Tamba Trio (1962), their Debut Album. First here at Loronix. I know that soon it will be available all around and this is fantastic. A fine, rare and out of print LP like this should be available to everybody through all possible channels.
