Hello, good evening! I’m really glad to present another Lyrio Panicali career LP never made available before at Loronix. By the way, the last album with Lyrio Panicali as main performer was released in the remote November 2007, exactly 16 months ago. I made a quick examination at Lyrio Panicali discography and I’m happy to know that we still have several albums never released in CD to show. Some of these albums I never had the chance to see how the cover looks like. Anyway, Maestro Lyrio Panicali is a really special artist and I urge Loronix community to pay attention to this release. I will tell you. Let’s see.

This is Lyrio Panicali – Lyrio Panicali faz Samba em 2 Tempos (1967), for Codil Ritmos, featuring Orquestra de Sopros da Radio Ministerio da Educacao e Cultura. This album can easily cheat you at a first sight, but as soon as you spin the first track you understand that you are in front of something very similar to Panicali’s Nova Dimensao, an acclaimed album by Samba Jazz fans. This one is very similar and Lyrio Panicali is in front of an Orchestra made of professional musicians from Radio Ministerio da Educacao e Cultura, including the legendary K-Ximbinho. Believe-me, if you are looking for Samba tunes performed by an orchestra with Samba Jazz beat and drumming, this is really worth checking. Tracks include:

SAX IMORTAL

Hello, good evening! I’m writing an article and organizing a discography of Brazilian music albums recorded by musicians using nicknames, which was something very common in the 60’s decade, and this album is a missing piece on my discography. Unlike other artists who normally used nicknames to bypass their contractual obligations, this musician adopted this name as his artistic name, and so far he is the only musician that used this tactic in my study.

Teddy Garner is the nickname of the Brazilian saxophonist Jayme Araujo de Oliveira, homage to Freddy Gardner, one of the most famous British sax players during the 30’s and 40’s. I have loads of information about Freddy Gardner, but I could not find a single line written about Jayme Araujo de Oliveira and his Teddy Gardner. If you know something about Jayme Araujo de Oliveira, feel free to use the comment section or write me an e-mail. So, I will be able to tell the story of this obscure musician and this interesting album. Let’s see.

This is Teddy Garner com Lyrio Panicalli e Seus Violinos do Ceu – Sax Imortal (1961), for Columbia, with Jayme Araujo de Oliveira sax and Lyrio Panicalli orchestra performing renditions of American standards, based on the Freddy Gardner music. Perhaps this is the first and only album recorded by Teddy Garner, by the way, a solid start with our mysterious Jayme Araujo de Oliveira dueling with Lyrio Panicalli orchestral arrangements. Musicians on this session were not credited by Columbia, except both main performers. I’m confident Loronix community will retrieve more information about this. Tracks include:

01 – Invitation (B. Kaper)
02 – Body And Soul (Heyman / Sour / Green)
03 – Harlem Nocturne (Hagen)
04 – These Foolish Things (Strachey)
05 – Look For a Star (M. Antony)
06 – I Only Have Eyes For You (Dubin / Warren)
07 – An Affair To Remember (H. Warren / H. Adamson / L. McCarey)
08 – I’m In The Mood For Love (Fields / McHugh)
09 – Love Is a Many-splendored Thing (Paul Francis Webster / S. Fain)
10 – Valse Vanité (Wiedoeft)
11 – A Summer Place (Steiner)
12 – Roses Of Picardy (Weatherly / Wood)

.

Jaime Araújo (Teddy Garner) é o irmão de Severino Araújo. O disco pode ser buscado no Parallel Realities.

Lyrio Panicali – Panicali Italiano (1966)

Hello, good evening! I think that everybody had the chance to visit or Music from All Countries celebration at Loronix, a great event sponsored by Caetano Rodrigues with special posts to the ten countries that delivered more visits to Loronix last year. I was browsing the actual statistics yesterday when I noticed that Italy has moved from the 8th to 7th position. I was thinking about making something for Italy, when I found this album lost in the middle of others, featuring the Italian born Maestro Lyrio Panicalli delivering arrangements to a repertoire of Italian songs. Let’s see.

This is Lyrio Panicali – Panicali Italiano (1966), for Odeon with liner notes by Lyrio Panicali explaining that Panicali Italiano was made by Odeon request. By the way, very nice liner notes written by the Maestro, saying his recipe to this album, which is 12 nice songs in his heart, 12 good violins, 2 violas, 3 cellos, in the other side of the studio, 3 flutes, 2 piston and 2 trombones and on top of everything 1 violao, 1 electric guitar, 1 bass and 1 drums. And to give more spice, harp, electric organ and a “well tempered” harpsichord. Let’s see how Lyrio Panicali manages these Italian songs, very difficult to write with my limited Italian language knowledge. Tracks include:

01 – L’ultima Telefonata (Último Telefonema) (P. Donaggio / V. Pallavicini)
02 – Nessuno Mi Puo Giudicare (Ninguém Poderá Julgar-me) (M. Panzeri / D. Pace / L. Beretta / M. del Prete)
03 – Il Mondo (O Mundo) (Fontana / Pes / Meccia)
04 – Cominciamo Ad Amarci (Começamos a Amar) (V. Pallavicini / Mescoli)
05 – Ho Capito Che Ti Amo (Eu Sinto Que Te Amo) (L. Tenco)
06 – Dio Come Ti Amo (Deus Como Te Amo) (Domenico Modugno)
07 – Io Te Daró Di Piu (Eu Te Darei Bem Mais) (Memo Remigi / A. Testa)
08 – Una Casa In Cima Dal Mondo (Uma Casa Sobre o Mundo) (V. Pallavicini / P. Donaggio)
09 – Nessuno Di Voi (Kramer / Pallavicini)
10 – Se Piangi Se Ridi (Se Choras Se Ris) (Satti / F. D. Marchetti / Mogol)
11 – Si Fa Sera (Amurri / De Martino)
12 – Se Non Avessi Piu Te (Se Não Houvesse Você) (Zambrini / Enriquez / Migliacci)

.

Orquestra de Lyrio Panicali – Nova Dimensao (1964)

Publicado em: Saturday, September 15, 2007 by zecalouro

I’ve been thinking a lot on the right approach to this post. This record is probably among the top five albums available at this website and I feel in the obligation to be straightforward, making sure you do not skip this one. Unfortunately, there are some pitfalls that can cheat you and we need to avoid, such as:

1) Do not take it as another orchestra album.
2) Do not take it as another orchestra album with Bossa Nova standards.
3) Do not think I’m crazy, everyone who listens agrees with me.

This is Orquestra de Lyrio Panicali – Nova Dimensao (1964), for Odeon. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I will file Nova Dimensao as Samba Jazz, instead of Orchestra. This is truly in the Samba Jazz style with a drummer playing such like Edison Machado, Milton Banana or any other drummer of instrumental trios from the 60’s. Anyway, I think I could write several paragraphs of text covering each different and unique aspect of this album, but I will let you go for your weekend with the very good company of this legendary album. Have a nice weekend. Tracks include:

01 – Lágrima Flor (Billy Blanco)
02 – Carnaval Triste (Sergio Carvalho / Paulo Bruce)
03 – Consolação (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
04 – Vou Andar Por Aí (Newton Chaves)
05 – Deus Brasileiro (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
06 – Desafinado (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)
07 – Lobo Bobo (Carlos Lyra / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
08 – Nanã (Moacir Santos / Mário Telles)
09 – Balanço Zona Sul (Tito Madi)
10 – Labareda (Vinicius de Moraes / Baden Powell)
11 – Batida Diferente (Durval Ferreira / Maurício Einhorn)
12 – Garota de Ipanema (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)

Lina Pesce – Concerto em Ritmo (1963)

Link original: Lina Pesce – Concerto em Ritmo (1963)
Publicado em: Tuesday, September 11, 2007 by zecalouro

Let’s make a very different Para Dancar release today, pretty sophisticated by the way, featuring a Brazilian pianist and composer never introduced to Loronixers. I’m talking about Lina Pesce, perhaps the beautiful woman on this great cover artwork, but I’m not sure of it. Lina Pesce and Carolina Cardoso de Menezes are very similar artists, with Carolina being more identified as an instrumentalist while Lina Pesce as composer. Let’s see.

This is Lina Pesce – Concerto em Ritmo (1963), for Columbia, featuring orchestra with direction by Maestro Lyrio Panicalli. The second album recorded by Lina Pesce for Columbia, being the first dedicated to Lina Pesce compositions and Concerto em Ritmo, Lina Pesce renditions to classic music in Para Dancar style, both albums with orchestra directed by Lyrio Panicalli. I’m tracking down the first, it will be nice to hear Lina Pesce piano and Lyrio Panicalli orquestra playing Lina Pesce repertoire. Tracks include:

01 – Balada Nº 2 (Franz Liszt)
02 – Panorama (De “A Bela Adormecida”) (Tchaikovsky)
03 – Tema (De “Rapsódia Sobre Um Tema de Paganini”) (Rachmaninoff)
04 – Tema do Concerto Em Mi Menor Op 11 (Frederic Chopin)
05 – Valsa (De “O Lago dos Cisnes”) (Tchaikovsky)
06 – Tema de “Giselle” (Adam)
07 – Estudo Nº 12 Em Dó Menor Op 10 Nº 12 (Revolucionário) (Frederic Chopin)
08 – Valsa Nº 2 Em Lá Bemol Maior Op 34 Nº 1 (Frederic Chopin)
09 – Adágio (De “A Bela Adormecida”) (Tchaikovsky)
10 – Tema de “Don Quixote” (Minkus)
11 – Estudo Em Mi Maior Op 10 Nº 3 (Frederic Chopin)
12 – Valsa Nº 10 Em Si Menor Op 69 Nº 2 (Frederic Chopin)

Hello, Good night! I woke up in the mood of female singers today. Perhaps Luiza, released yesterday with a great reception, influences zecalouro. I’m not starting with a Diva but probably they should come up on later posts today.

This post is dedicated to a Loronixer that it is not very active in comments or Loronix Forum, but is a great friend of zecalouro and a big fan of Loronix. He is at Loronix since the beginning and only a couple of weeks ago he could show his credentials and also made this contribution. Thanks Douglas Regis for Lyrio Panicali – Panicali e as Novelas (1969), for Odeon.

What are Douglas Regis credentials? Douglas is a maestro and composer, starting professionally at the early age of 14. Take a look at Douglas blog at http://douglasregis.blogspot.com and check his resumee, sound clips from his music, albums, sheet and his contact info. Truly amazing. When I get older, I want to be such like Douglas.

Douglas will be taken by surprise reading this post; zecalouro is doing this just to let everybody aware that we have several young and good musicians waiting for a chance to make it happen in Brazil. zecalouro and Loronix will always support people like Douglas. Tracks include:

01 – Ponte dos Suspiros (Lyrio Panicali)
02 – A Última Valsa (Lyrio Panicali / Joluz)
03 – A Grande Mentira (Lyrio Panicali / Joluz)
04 – A Gata de Visón (Lyrio Panicali)
05 – O Homem Proibido (Lyrio Panicali / Joluz)
06 – Tema de Amor Em Forma de Prelúdio (Manuel Marques)
07 – A Rainha Louca (Lyrio Panicali)
08 – O Passo dos Ventos (Lyrio Panicali)

I have a special admiration for all Brazilian Maestros we have at Loronix and Lyrio Panicali is among my favorites. This LP, recorded for US market, is probably unknown by many friends in Brazil, Lyrio Panicali and His Orchestra – Brazil, New Dimensions in Sound (1968), for United Artists, I cannot confirm right now if the record session was taken in Brazil or in the US. This one should not be confused with the fantastic Nova Dimensao, released in 1965 for Odeon.

This is not only an Orchestra album, there are voices and lyrics in some tracks, Clara Nunes at his pre-samba ages, recognized for her collaboration with Lyrio Panicali sings on tracks Insensatez and A Felicidade. Silvio Cesar also makes his contribution singing tracks Dindi and Apelo. The repertoire is based on Bossa Nova standards, another unique release provided by Caetano Rodrigues. Tracks include:

01 – Aranjuez, Mon Amour
02 – Upa Neguinho
03 – Insensatez – with Clara Nunes
04 – Carolina
05 – Tem Mais Samba
06 – Dindi – with Silvio Cesar
07 – Tristeza
08 – Apelo – with Silvio Cesar
09 – Roda
10 – Meditacao
11 – A Felicidade – with Clara Nunes
12 – Garota de Ipanema

Publicado em: Wednesday, November 01, 2006 by zecalouro

Yesterday, I felt asleep before going bed, very tired. zecalouro could woke me up this morning yelling my name and asking for his breakfast. By the way, tomorrow will be zecalouro birthday (the parrot), I’m already thinking about a special celebration to this great green friend of Loronix.

So, we are having this extraordinary morning post, Lyrio Panicali and His Orchestra – Bossa Nova 70 (197?), a LP not listed on Lyrio Panicali discographies that I could check. This issue is from an Australian label – Music for Pleasure, MFP A 8106 -, which is some sort of EMI subsidiary. I’m not sure this is the original issue or the reissue of the so far unknown Brazilian label.

Anyway, Lyrio Panicali orchestra LPs are always great. The cover is also amazing, a nice pick to Loronix. Tracks include:

01 – Pra que Chorar (Bande Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Januaria (Chico Buarque)
03 – O Barquinho (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Boscoli)
04 – Nana (Moacir Santos / Mario Telles)
05 – Amanha (Walter Santos / Tereza Souza)
06 – Watch What Happens (Michel Legrand / Normal Gimbell)
07 – Wave (Antonio Carlos Jobim)
08 – Samba para Pedrinho (Walter Santos)
09 – Sou Sem Paz (Adylson Godoy)
10 – A Resposta (Marcos Valle – Paulo Sergio Valle)
11 – Mar Amar (Roberto Menescal – Ronaldo Boscoli)
12 – E nada Mais (Durval Ferreira – Luiz Fernando Freire)

.

Não tinha este disco. Graças à colaboração da Eliane e do Milan ele agora está disponível no Parallel Realities.
