I could have saved this album until Saturday, which is the day where Samba has the spotlights at Loronix. However, I could not resist. Even considered an extraordinary composer and Samba interpreter, Nelson Cavaquinho recorded only a few albums and this one was completely unknown for me. Nelson Cavaquinho has many admirers at Loronix and they should be quite enthusiastic about this disc. Let’s see.

This is Nelson Cavaquinho – As Flores em Vida (1985), for Eldorado, a moving tribute and the last album recorded by Nelson Cavaquinho, with the participation of a constellation of Brazilian artists, including Paulinho da Viola, Cristina, Chico Buarque, Joao Bosco, Toquinho, among others. Nelson Cavaquinho performs in all tracks with the accompaniment of different guests. My highlight goes to the opening track Devia ser Condenada by Cartola and Nelson Cavaquinho, which is my selection to Loronix Preview Center. Tracks include:

Hello, good evening! It was very silly of mine to keep this album for months without taking it for a hearing. I bought this one on those cheap bargains and I thought — and probably the storeowner also — it was a compilation of early Nelson Cavaquinho songs released by RCA Victor in the late 70’s. I was wrong and I knew I was wrong this week when I took it for a spin and noticed that all tracks are from the same session. What a session by the way. This is the second Nelson Cavaquinho career LP at Loronix and it is also very, very, very good. Let’s see.

This is Nelson Cavaquinho – Serie Documento (1972), for RCA Victor. This “Serie Documento” title is the root cause of the confusion. Anyway, Nelson Cavaquinho is self-explanatory and you should not skip this one. Sergio Cabral liner notes says something really correct, you should take this album and also Nelson Cavaquinho not as a singer with beautiful voice and easy songs, he is not for beginners, but Nelson sings with his soul, he puts passion and the outcome is really overwhelming. RCA Victor did not credit musicians and arrangers this time. Tracks include:

Hello, Good Evening! Let’s end the Samba weekend as solid as we started yesterday, bringing to Loronixers a true Brazilian Samba legend, Nelson Cavaquinho. This album came this week by the Mail Big File transaction and the contributor left no identification. I could not wait longer for making it. Let’s see.

This is Nelson Cavaquinho – Depoimento do Poeta (1974), for Castelinho, featuring performances of Nelson Cavaquinho with the special guests Elizeth Cardoso, Eneida, Sargentelli and Sergio Cabral, they play the role of making an introductory speech to Nelson Cavaquinho song on each track. This cover artwork is really nice, however, I don’t think it is from the original first issue. The number 3 in the top left corner probably stands for a series reissue. Anyway, this is Samba performed by one of the greatest Samba interpreter and composer ever. Tracks include:

Hello, Good Evening! Let’s get back on that Saturday Samba mode today, it has been two weeks with since we made the last one and some friends are crying for it. It was hard for me to make the right choices with Samba, but with the last high quality Samba contribution, things are easy now. Let’s introduce the debut LP recorded by a Brazilian Samba group that features several Samba legends.

This is Os Cinco Crioulos – Samba… No Duro (1967), for Odeon, the debut LP of this anthological Samba group from the 60’s, featuring well-known Samba interpreters. Samba… No Duro is delicious to hear, really different from the average Samba albums from recent decades. There is no female choir, which is something very interest, seems to me there is only one female choir to several Samba albums, not this one. Tracks include:

Hello, Good Evening! I was planning to show this album to Loronixers as the last post of this Friday, but I wait years tracking down a solo LP by Nelson Cavaquinho that I decided to wait no more. Nelson Cavaquinho and Cartola are the best Brazilian Samba composers ever, he left more than 600 compositions that are been recorded by several renowned interpreters of Brazilian music, such as: Elis Regina, Elizeth Cardoso, Paulinho da Viola, among many others on an endless list.

In the other hand, Nelson Cavaquinho left only a couple of solo albums and I was very curious to see his great compositions on his own performances, instead of performances by other artists.

This is Nelson Cavaquinho – Nelson Cavaquinho (1973), for Odeon, made possible with the help of yesterday’s Samba contributor. The album features well-known Nelson Cavaquinho compositions and even those that you never heard before will be inside your head after the first hearing. Nelson Cavaquinho is not for beginners, his voice is rough and sounds weird, but the beauty of the melodies, lyrics and all the feelings that Nelson puts on his interpretation is really above the average. Guilherme de Brito, Nelson Cavaquinho long time partner, is the special guest on some tracks as indicated on track list. Maestro Jose Briamonte is in charge of Direction and Arrangements. Hello, good night! Technology is a blessing and sometimes disappointing when there is something broken and cannot be fixed. Loronix has a hosting service that supports some visible, such like the videos and invisible not visible and important features. As you already know, this hosting service has been down since this morning and some essential data might be definitively lost. Sorry for making these “internal” issues public, it is just a small crying with my friends at Loronix, I’m not bored, on bad humor, just disappointed.
