That’s it. The feedback received from Muchacho nas Bocas, Hermeto Pascoal Video and Miscelanea Vanguardiosa PodCast was really great. I’m happy when Loronixers are pleased with zecalouro’s posts. However, zecalouro pleases Loronixers and Caetanon Rodrigues drives people crazy, let’s get back on track with another fine release sponsored by Caetano Rodrigues, The Great.

This is Lalo Schifrin & Bob Brookmeyer – Samba para Dos (1963), for Verve. Someone said before that Lalo Schifrin early works dedicated to the Bossa Nova repertoire were worth to dig. I can’t remember the friend’s name and he was absolutely right. This is a very nice record with the piano of Lalo Schifrin and the trombone of Bob Brookmeyer supported by renowned artists, such as Phil Woods, Al Cohn and others. Overall personnel makes more that an accompaniment, they have also the spotlights with several solos throughout the record. Thanks for it, Caetano, people should be really amazed by this album. Tracks include:

Personnel

Romeo Penque
(clarinet)
Ben Tucker
(bass)
Phil Woods
(sax alto)

Bob Brookmeyer
(piano, trombone)
Jimmy Raney

.

It has been a while we do not show something really nice from Hermeto Pascoal. I was wondering what would be a really unique Hermeto Pascoal music or video to show Loronixers. The answer came from our friend Ricardo Reston, which is the owner and maintainer of Miscelanea Vanguardiosa, a pioneer Brazilian Podcast devoted to instrumental music that you should not miss.

Ricardo is sending to Loronixers this music video bellow, showing Hermeto Pascoal in Argentina performing a amazing rendition of Libertango, from the legendary Astor Piazolla.

By the way, Miscelanea Vanguardiosa has started a series of Podcasts showing the music of Hermeto Pascoal from an historical perspective, such as those timelines we are used to see on Magazines. The first Podcast is already available, showing Hermeto Pascoal early years.

Make a visit to Miscelanea Vanguardiosa, here, http://miscelaneavanguardiosa.blogspot.com, if you read English, here, http://miscvanguard.blogspot.com and come back to watch this video, a real treat.

Hope uEnjoy!

Muchacho nas Bocas – Um Sax Muito Louco (1973) featuring Moacyr Silva and Ed Lincoln

Hello, Good Night! I’m starting today with this obscure LP that I was lucky to find on those R$1 bargains in Rio de Janeiro. In a first sight, the cover was not inspiring, but the record label was Equipe and the price given worth the enterprise. I use to wash all records I bought as soon as I get home, also playing a little bit of them. It was necessary to listen everything to recognize the sax of the legendary Moacyr Silva and the organ of Ed Lincoln. Later on I could double check on Sombras, a website that you should not miss, owned and maintained by Sergio Ximenes that has been for years serving one of the most complete Brazilian music discographies at the Internet. Sombras is http://www.sombras.com.br.

This is Muchacho nas Bocas – Um Sax Muito Louco (1973), for Equipe, a short and relaxed sax and organ duel by Moacyr Silva and Ed Lincon on top of a popular repertoire that you will recognize easy. Just a warning for perfectionists, the overall quality of the music is good, however, two tracks were marked by a deep scratch, still audible, but without spoiling the listening pleasure. Tracks include:

01 – Tem Capoeira
02 – Minha Viola
03 – Amor, Amor
04 – Desafio
05 – Ninguem Tasca (Gaviao)
06 – Se Ela Quer
07 – Mexe Mexe
08 – Esperancas Perdidas
09 – A Danca do Cafune
10 – Baba de Quiabo

It was very hard to decide the end post of the day. I was on a conflict between two other choices, but when it comes to my attention that Caetano sent to us an additional Neco LP, the decision was taken on less then a second. Jean Yves (Jean do Trombone) will be very pleased to see Neco when he wakes up in the morning. Jean is a great friend of our community and had the chance to play and have a friendship with Neco. Jean said that besides being a unique guitarist, Neco is also a great human being. Thanks Caetano for the chance to present to Loronixers these really hard to find Neco solo releases.

This is Neco – Coquetel Bossa Nova (1963), for CBS. The first Neco solo album, although some reviewers takes Coquetel Bossa Nova as the second Neco album, taking the first as Samba Nova Concepcao (1963), widely associated as an Eumir Deodato LP. I need more clarification on this subject, share your thoughts at comments section, Tracks include:

01 – Jogado Fora (João Mello)
02 – Você (Rildo Hora / Clóvis Mello)
03 – Está Nascendo Um Samba (Tito Madi / Romeo Nunes)
04 – Se Chegou Assim (Othon Russo / Newton Ramalho)
05 – Ah Se Eu Pudesse (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
06 – Corcovado (Tom Jobim)
07 – Nós e o Mar (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
08 – Com o Amor Não Se Brinca (Romeo Nunes / Carlito)
09 – Tem Dó (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
10 – A Mesma Rosa Amarela (Capiba / Carlos Penna Filho)
11 – Triteza e Solidão (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
12 – Sorriu Pra Mim (Garoto / Luis Cláudio)

Conjunto Balambossa – Samba ao Vivo

Publicado em: Tuesday, March 06, 2007 by zecalouro

Caetano, please, stop! Please, don’t do it to zecalouro. Caetano knows that I get really nervous when I have to show Loronixers any LP from the Label Coledisc. They are pretty hard to speak about. Do yourself a search on Loronix Find It and check by yourself what is already available of Conjunto Balambossa, there are more than a few albums. What amazes myself is that nobody knows exactly the musicians on these disc, each one different from the other. That’s right Caetano, to write about Coledisc LPs is like to fly on a plane with no instruments.

This is Conjunto Balambossa – Samba ao Vivo (no date), for Coledisc. Taking in consideration Samba ao Vivo and previous Conjunto Balambossa LPs at Loronix, I feel confident to say that this is the best one, really dancing, with duels between organ and guitar. If you had fun with any previous Balambossas, do not hesitate to take this one. Coledisc label has some followers on this style of saying anything about their albums, such as Nilsen, Distac and the legendary Palladium from Minas Gerais, but nothing compares to Coledisc with the creation of this multi-purpose Conjunto Balambossa. Tracks include:

01 – Samba Triste (Baden Powell / Billy Blanco)
02 – Boato (João Roberto Kelly)
03 – Moeda Quebrada (Luis Reis / Haroldo Barbosa)
04 – Amor e Paz (Tito Madi)
05 – Volta (Luis Bandeira / Djalma Ferreira)
06 – Murmúrio (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio)
07 – Na Roda do Samba (Orlann Divo / Hélton Menezes)
08 – Dizem Por Aí (Manoel da Conceição / Alberto Paz)
09 – Fica Comigo (Luis Antônio)
10 – Falsa Baiana (Geraldo Pereira)
11 – Fiz o Bobão (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
12 – Zelão (Sergio Ricardo)

Challenge and Music Video – Edison Machado Quarteto

Tuesday, March 06, 2007 by zecalouro

Today we will blend a challenge with a video, both provided by Luiz Harding. Let’s start with the challenge. Gentleman, who are the musicians at the photo you see on top. This is a Bossa Nova Trio from the 60’s. Does anybody know?

.

To end it up, Luiz sent us a video from this collection that is really unique, a excerpt of the movie Cinema é que se Faz featuring O Quarteto de Edison Machado, which is Edison Machado (drums), Aloisio Aguiar (piano) (*), Ion Muniz (sax) and Ricardo Pereira dos Santos (bass). Luiz had a hard time to present us an acceptable image. The video is dark, but the sound is good and you can see Edison Machado and others musicians very clear. Thanks for the gems Luiz.
Hope uEnjoy!

Joni James – Bossa Nova Style (1965)

Here we go again with another release sponsored by Caetano Rodrigues, The Great. Caetano presents this time a female singer and I’m very confident that this post will be a treat for many Loronixers. It was a surprise to see the tremendous feedback given to Pat Thomas and I hope that Joni James hits the same honors gave by Loronixers to Pat Thomas. Let’s check another Caetano’s gem.

This is Joni James – Bossa Nova Style (1965), for MGM. Hearing Joni James, I sure that you will remember the anthological Julie is her Name, by Julie London. Joni James seems to be from the same school and her interpretation of Bossa Nova is really different. I like Joni James singing and this is a very pleasant LP. Thanks for this one Caetano. Tracks include:

01 – Dindi
02 – I Could Have Danced All Night
03 – September Song
04 – My Foolish Heart
05 – I Wish You Love
06 – While We’re Young
07 – I Understand
08 – The Girl from Ipanema

Hello, Good Night! Picture yourself at home with no access to the Internet during 18 hours with your life out there, banking account, emails, customers, etc. I’m making the move to a new service and I hope nobody will be stopping me with this change. Anyway, I’m back again to business and I want to entertain Loronixers before answering tons of emails and others things to do. I will let you with an album from a obscure band from the early 70’s that make a great success when their first LP was shown to Loronixers.

This is D’Angelo – D’Angelo (1970), for Equipe. Nobody could tell me details about this group, but they make a great success, especially among European DJs. If you are in the mood of the groovy sounds of the 70’s and the Samba Soul scene, which is represented by artists such like Tim Maia, Os Diagonais, Cassiano and others, this is the album that you cannot skip. The repertoire has several well-known tunes, performed by female chorus, probably the ladys at the cover. Tracks include:

01 – Coroné Antônio Bento (Luis Wanderley / João do Vale)
02 – Padre Cícero (Tim Maia / Cassiano)
03 – Curto de Véu e Grinalda (Moraes Moreira / Galvão)
04 – BR 3 (Antônio Adolfo / Tibério Gaspar)
05 – Agora (Ivan Lins / Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza)
06 – Eu Também Quero Mocotó (Jorge Ben “Jorge Benjor”)
07 – Cristina (Carlos Imperial / Tim Maia)
08 – Primavera (Cassiano / Silvio Rochael)
09 – Procurando Tú (Antônio Barros / J. Luna)
10 – Azul da Cor do Mar (Tim Maia)

Joao Gilberto – Amoroso (1977)

Publicado em: Monday, March 05, 2007 by zecalouro

Joao Gilberto. How long we did not see this legendary artist at Loronix? I don’t know and I do not want to know, just because Joao Gilberto is back to Loronix, on a very unique way, selected by Caetano Rodrigues with surgeon gloves. Actually, since Caetano and zecalouro have decided to make a Joao Gilberto album, there was some dispute to decide the right pick to Loronixers. My choice was another LP. However, when Caetano said this is the one with the extraordinary Joao Gilberto rendition for Estate, it was automatically decided, discussion over, this is one of the songs that I like most from Joao Discography and I’m sure you will also enjoy it, including the video bellow.

This is Joao Gilberto – Amoroso (1977), for WEA, 39 minutes of perfection, divided in 8 tracks. Joao Gilberto music is to be listened with speakerphones, alone and with the lights out. There is nothing like his voice, perfect voice, such like an instrument, flawless and gorgeous. Amoroso is arranged by Claus Ogerman and was a serious candidate to win a Grammy Award of the best album in a late 70’s edition. Caetano asked zecalouro to research for more details on it. Sorry friend, I’m hearing the master right now and I’m paralyzed. I can only move my fingers. Loronixers can make that this time. Tracks include:

01 – ‘s Wonderful (George Gershwin / Ira Gershwin)
02 – Estate (Bruno Martino / Bruno Brighetti)
03 – Tim Tim Por Tim Tim (Haroldo Barbosa / Geraldo Jacques)
04 – Besame Mucho (Consuelo Velasquez)
05 – Wave (Tom Jobim)
06 – Caminho Cruzados (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)
07 – Triste (Tom Jobim)
08 – Zingaro (Tom Jobim / Chico Buarque)

Hello, Good Night! Thanks a million for the feedback given to Recordando Carlinhos Guinle, a great release sponsored by Caetano, our pick as yesterday’s closing post. Some additional info, Sylvinha Telles track Voce Nao Sabe Amar was record only for this session and something that I had to highlight and forgot is the participation of the socialite Tereza de Souza Campos, responsible for neck pains on folks when she passed by Copacabana sidewalks at that time.

Let’s start this Monday with the first contribution of our friend Moos from The Netherlands. Moos was in Rio de Janeiro to spend Carnaval and I had a chance to get along with Moos on a day. Moos is a great guy with an immense love to the music from Brazil. He gave to zecalouro a gift, which is something that I was looking for, a pen drive, 1Gb capacity, with several records from his personal collection inside. This is the first Moos pick, taken from the pen drive. Thanks Moos.

This is Djalma Ferreira e os Milionarios do Ritmo – Drink no Rio de Janeiro (1959), for Discos Drink, the kind of record that should please everybody, featuring several artists that got renowned in the 60’s. Drink was a nightclub in Rio de Janeiro and also a record label. Those who never had the chance to see a Drink LP are missing a design work. Drink LPs are beautiful, with several pictures inside and a cover that opens such like a panel. When I get one, I will make some complete photos to share with Loronixers. Drink no Rio de Janeiro crooner is Miltinho. See personnel listing for others. Tracks include:

Personnel
(taken from back cover)Djalma Ferreira
Lincoln
Waltel

Miltinho
Brito

Track List

01 – Fala Amor (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio)
02 – Cheiro de Saudade (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio) — Café do Brasil (Djalma Ferreira)

04 – Samba do Drink (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio)
05 – Cansei (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio)
06 – Nosso Samba (Djalma Ferreira / Iza Ferreira)
07 – Carnaval (Djalma Ferreira / Ataulfo Alves) — Zé Marmita (Luis Antônio / Brasinha) — Tumba Lelê (Francisco Neto / N. Neves / J. Reis) — Levanta Mangueira (Luis Antônio) — Araruta Tem Seu Dia (Luis Antônio) — Madureira Chorou (Carvalhinho / J. Monteiro)

This is not a regular post; this is a very special post. I was saving this LP for a later time and something on may mind says that this is the special day. This is another album provided by Caetano Rodrigues to our community. I did not have the idea of its existence and since this LP arrived at Loronix I’ve been searching for additional info.

I’m confident to say that this is a extremely rare LP. We are having at Loronix a once in a lifetime opportunity to get in touch with all this magical music by the hands of Caetano Rodrigues, hands of a friend that spend a great amount of his personal time and family life to select music, prepare copies, take cover scan copies on a labor of passion for the music from Brazil and for our community. Thanks Caetano for all the music, friendship and respect you have by our website and all the friends that I use to call Loronixers.

It has been a time since I was willing to make this statement; Caetano is providing music, knowledge and happiness to everybody, it is time to say thanks to a great friend of Loronix.

This is Recordando Carlinhos Guinle – Various Artists (1963), for Philips, featuring Tereza de Souza Campos, Jacques Klein, Sylvia Telles, Tamba Trio, Dorival Caymmi, Hugo Lima and Luli Oswald. Excelent. My research could not go further, but I think some of the tracks performed by Sylvia Telles, Dorival Caymmi and Tamba Trio were only released on this LP.

This record is a tribute to Carlos Guinle, member of an influent family in Brazil, founder of the legendary Copacabana Palace Hotel. Carlinhos Guinle has died very early at the age of 37 in 1956. Since then, Carlinhos Guinle compositions has been recorded by many renowned artists, although he always considers himself an amateur composer, he is the author of Sabado em Copacabana (Carlos Guinle / Dorival Caymmi), considered by many an early Bossa Nova tune. Tracks Include:

01 – Não Tem Solução (Dorival Caymmi / Carlinhos Guinle) – Tereza de Souza Campos
02 – Choro (Carlos Guinle / Hugo Lima) – Tamba Trio
03 – Valerá a Pena (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle / Hugo Lima) – Jacques Klein
04 – Sábado Em Copacabana (Carlos Guinle / Dorival Caymmi) – Silvinha Telles
05 – Nesta Rua Tão Deserta (Carlos Guinle / Hugo Lima / Jacques Klein) – Dorival Caymmi / Hugo Lima
06 – Sambão (Carlos Guinle / Jacques Klein) – Tamba Trio
07 – Tão Só (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle) – Tereza de Souza Campos
08 – Nesta Rua Tão Deserta (Carlos Guinle / Hugo Lima / Jacques Klein) – Jacques Klein
09 – Você Não Sabe Amar (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle / Hugo Lima) – Silvinha Telles
10 – Berceuse (Gilda Guinle) – Luli Oswald

Now is easy to gather information on earlier posts using Loronix Find It! This was an example. I have this record available for posting a long time ago and I could check very fast if it was not already at Loronix using Find It! I’m still with a big Internet problem down here; I spoke about it with Caetano a couple of minutes ago. The music I was planning to make it today is still being uploaded. It is now 11pm and the upload has started at 7pm.

This is Ely Arcoverde – O Orgao que Canta Sambas Vol. 2 (1963), for RGE, a very early Ely Arcoverde LP and artist that is already known by Loronixers from a nice contribution of Caetano Rodrigues, one of the first ones from Caetano and from a very old one, made in August, 2006. Did you see how easy it is to maximize your Loronix experience with Find It! I’m also a Find It! Power user. Tracks include:

01 – Cidade Maravilhosa (André Filho)
02 – Madame Fulano de Tal (Cyro Monteiro / Dias da Cruz)
03 – O Samba da Minha Terra (Dorival Caymmi)
04 – Eu Sem Maria (Alcyr Pires Vermelho / Dorival Caymmi)
05 – O Que Eu Gosto de Você (Silvio César)
06 – Canta Maria (Ary Barroso)

This is the first video I had the chance to see with a performance of the mighty Tamba Trio from Luiz Eca. Using my limited Tamba Trio knowledge I could not identify the year of the performance or at least a reasonable approximation for it.
I will let with you to find out personnel and performance date. This video was kindly sent by Luiz Harding and it is the first out of a very nice series. Luiz Harding is a serious researcher of the Brazilian drummer Edison Machado, being the owner and maintainer of a website dedicated to this Brazilian legend. Here we go again with another of those nice Caetano’s tricks finding gold on records that would be not taken in consideration by regular humans. Now Caetano comes with the OST of an anthological movie film from the 60’s that is all about Bossa Nova and Brazilian Music.

This is Bill Barron Orchestra – West Side Story Bossa Nova (1963), for Dauntless, the soundtrack of the musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet set in New York City, where rival street gangs – the Jets and the Sharks – battle for territory and respect. Bill Barron Orchestra takes the lead here, making a unique record, with a nice rhythm session making use of Brazilian percussion instruments on an unusual manner. You should check this out by your own. Tracks include:

01 – Something is Coming
02 – One Hand, One Heart
03 – Gee, Officer Krupke
04 – Cool
05 – Maria
06 – Tonight
07 – America

Hello, Good Night! It is nighttime by looking through my window to stare the sky with stars, however, I feel like in the morning. I slept very well this night taking also some naps during the day. Thanks for the great feedback given to Loronix Find It! I’m very happy to give an alternative to the Archives labyrinth.

That’s right! Being straightforward, we have here the first contribution from a Loronixer that does not want to be identified, let’s call him Mr. EB from now on. Mr. EB brings one of the instrumental groups we like most, supporting a great singer of the old times.

This is Claudya e Zimbo Trio – Entre Amigos (1994), for Movieplay, including 4 additional tracks only available at the CD version, which is the one sent by Mr. EB to Loronixers. It will be very nice to check a late work of Claudya, credited with the letter Y instead of U as we are used to read and Zimbo Trio. Mr. EB asks Loronixers to listen track one, Beatriz, very carefully as one of his favorite at this album. Tracks include:

01 – Beatriz (Edu Lobo / Chico Buarque)
02 – Tico-tico no Fubá (Zequinha de Abreu / Eurico Barreiros)
03 – Lamentos (Pixinguinha / Vinicius de Moraes)
04 – De Frente Pro Crime (João Bosco / Aldir Blanc)
05 – Upa Neguinho (Edu Lobo / Gianfrancesco Guarnieri)
06 – Da Cor do Pecado (Bororó)
07 – Brasileirinho (Waldir Azevedo)
08 – Cantiga Por Luciana (Edmundo Souto / Paulinho Tapajós)
09 – Fé Cega Faca Amolada (Milton Nascimento / Ronaldo Bastos)
10 – É Luxo Só (Ary Barroso / Luis Peixoto)
11 – Odeon (Ernesto Nazareth / Ubaldo Sciangula)
12 – Bala Com Bala (João Bosco / Aldir Blanc)
13 – Falsa Baiana (Geraldo Pereira)
14 – Domingo no Parque (Gilberto Gil)
15 – Clareteando (Cláudia)
16 – Kid Cavaquinho (João Bosco / Aldir Blanc)
17 – Ponteio (Edu Lobo / Capinan)

Just some additional information about the new Loronix Find It! application. I received some emails of friends addressing some issues; It was defined that posts available at Loronix first page are not available at Loronix Find It!, Other common issue are the music videos, they were not loaded at this initial phase and I think it is a good idea to have them all inside. Let’s wait for the new version. Don’t forget to share your feedback on Find It! we need that to improve each aspect of our community.

Back to business, sorry to Music! If you search our database for this record you will find it and we are making a repost, I guarantee that this is a mandatory repost, the first release had some corrupted tracks and this is a very hard to find record. My hope to find it on perfect condition was lost. Caetano send it to Loronixers with a uncommon CD quality. Let’s see what we have.

This is Garoto – Garoto + Sexteto (1966), for Farroupilha, not to be taken as the violonist Garoto (Anibal Augusto Sardinha) from the last post Garoto Revive em Alta Fidelidade Ary Barroso (1957). This is about Altivo Penteado, Brazilian vibraphone and piano player, also known as Garoto. Garoto – Garoto Revive em Alta Fidelidade Ary Barroso (1957) 10-inch

It is truly amazing that Caetano has the 10-inch version of this record that has beautiful facts to comment. Let’s make it straight that time presenting this real jewel, introducing artists and telling the story behind this album.

This is Garoto – Garoto Revive em Alta Fidelidade Ary Barroso (1957), for Odeon. Garoto (Anibal Augusto Sardinha) was a musician ahead of his time, very underrated and considered a genius. Garoto started very early, making his first recording in 1930 for Parlophon, under artistic direction of the Maestro Radames Gnattali. Garoto was a violonist in a time where violao players were considered outsiders, living in the margin of society. He has the honor of being the first musician to play a violao inside the elitist theatre Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro.

This album recorded and released two years before Garoto’s passing in 1955 and has the participation of Maestro Leo Peracchi with orchestra. Actually, Garoto was not in the set at the recording sessions of 1957. You will hear Garoto violao in all tracks and these recordings were found lost on a closet two years before his passing.

Maestro Leo Peracchi decided to make orchestra arrangements to the tapes found and the record was finally built. With the modern technology of today this technique is business as usual, however, in 1967, it was something close to impossible, this session was built with orchestra playing on top of Garoto’s recording with microphones capturing the environment sound.

Anyway, an anthological album of Brazilian music history with Garoto playing with Maestro Leo Perachi Ary Barroso compositions. Tracks include:

01 – Maria (Ary Barroso / Luis Peixoto)
02 – No Rancho Fundo (Ary Barroso / Lamartine Babo)
03 – Tu (Ary Barroso)
04 – Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso)
05 – Terra Sêca (Ary Barroso)
06 – Risque (Ary Barroso)
07 – Aquarela do Brasil (Ary Barroso)

Wow! Just took a look at Loronix Find It! from a Loronixer perspective and I think it will be really useful to our community. I hope people get used and take it as the preferred route to navigate though archives. I’m very curious to hear further feedback from Loronixers.

Anyway, the show must go on. Let’s get back to the music showing an album that I never hear before. Another nice released sponsored by Caetano Rodrigues, by the way, a great admirer of this artist that has a big discography with very hard to find records.

This is Aecio Flavio e Seu Conjunto – O Melhor da Noite (1964), for Polydor. Taking in consideration Caetano’s recording classification this is one of those “MUUUUUUUITO BOM!” records. I agree, wonderful, very different from the earlier Maestro Aecio Flavio Tribute to Chico Buarque de Hollanda. It is the kind of record that will surprise everybody, for being widely unknown and to revealing another jazzy instrumental music from the 60’s. The cover alone worth the admission price and I will now close my writing to take a nice picture of it, coming back in a few minutes to show this wonderful album to Loronixers. Tracks include:

Personnel

Aécio Flávio
(vibrafone)
Geraldo Walter “Waltinho”
(drums)
Plinio de Salles
(piston)
Paulo Horta “Paulinho”
(bass)
Márcio José

Leopoldino de Araújo Ganfra “Dino”
(sax)

Track List

01 – Você e Eu (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Esperança (Durval Ferreira / Luis Fernando Freire)
03 – Começou de Brincadeira (Pacífico Mascarenhas)
04 – Flor Que Cheira a Saudade (Gilda Horta / Toninho Horta)
05 – Domingo Em Copacabana (Paulo Tito / Roberto Faissal)
06 – Preciso Dar Um Jeito (Silvio César)

I did not have time for the challenges in the last two days and I was missing them. There is also a new kind of contributors at Loronix, the challenges contributor. This one is really special and was sent by Mr. I, his first challenge sharing to Loronixers. Let’s see, very difficult.

Question: Who are these friends?

Hope uEnjoy!

Publicado em: Saturday, March 03, 2007 by zecalouro

Hello Friends! Good Night! I wish I could be less tired to announce this major new feature to Loronixers. I have been working very hard to make it for today and I’m really glad to present it to Loronixers. You are probably wondering how we did it so fast typing 997 records in less than a week. The answer has a name, Pablo, The Magnificent.

Pablo was among the 46 friends who decided to spend a time of their life to Loronix. Pablo is also an IT professional and without asking developed a computer program that “grabs” Loronix website to collect the information needed from the volunteers friend on the announced worldwide typing effort. Thanks Pablo and thanks everybody who engage our typing initiative.

My feelings are now contradictory, I’m happy to have Loronix Find It! up and running and frustrated to do not take a great time with friends working together. I hope we will have another chance to make that, I will find a way to work together with Loronixers. It is time to celebrate and it is time to thanks Fabio, The Magnificent.

If you are living in Brazil and if you need IT services from Pablo, just reach his website agency, Konb, at http://www.konb.com.br. Thanks Pablo, you made my week and the week of Loronixers

Let’s talk about Loronix Find It. It is easy to reach it, a permanent icon is now positioned at the right, please use that icon to get access to the system. When inside Find It, the easier way to find records is typing the desired information at Quick Seach and and then click on it Loronix Find It will return records and you are done, a blue globe was strategically placed on each record and you should click at the globe to reach the information you need. Loronix Find It is smarter then zecalouro, finding the information needed examining the post title, artist name, genre, etc.

There are some improvements to be made. Record labels are empty, I will be filling it with data in the forthcoming days and Genre needs some clarification, minor details that should not spoil the use of Find It. That’s it.

Thanks Pablo! Thanks everybody! Thanks a MILLION volunteers! Please give us your feedback on this new feature and do not miss Loronix Find It, just click at the vinyl bellow.

zecalouro

Hope uEnjoy!

 .

Roy Budd – Buddin’ Bossa (1970)

Publicado em: Friday, March 02, 2007 by zecalouro

I spoke with Caetano about an hour ago and I forgot to get his always-useful briefing on this LP, so I’m making zecalouro’s first impressions on it. Once again, Caetano sent to us a truly obscure LP that makes you run to Google additional information. Let’s see how it goes.

This is Roy Budd – Buddin’ Bossa (1970), for NSPL, international late Bossa Nova by the pianist Roy Buddy. It seems that Roy Budd understands the Bossa Nova business. He spent several holidays in Brazil and simply adores Brazilian Music and Buddin’ Bossa is considered the album that Roy Budd wanted to make all of his life. He was so confident that you will see at back cover a Budd statement saying that Buddin’ Bossa is the best Bossa Nova LP recorded outside Brazil and this record was not released in 1970, a time that several others excellent records in the same style were already released. I think this LP will be a treat to several Loronixers. Tracks include:

PersonnelChris Karan

Vic Ash
(flutes)

Hello, Good Night! I don’t want to bother everybody with these off-topic issues, but I cannot start today without telling how awful my Internet connection is since yesterday nights. I’m unable to upload big files and the start of the collaboration with Loronixers to create our discography is being postponed. I’m not sad, only amazed and really surprised with such long outage, spoiling Loronix a little bit and my living with a great impact.

Anyway, I’m happy to be here with you to start another day of great Caetano music, as Caetano’s days always uses to be. This is the record that I have been postponing daily, so I decided to make it happen as the first one just to guarantee.

This is Don Junior e Seu Sax Maravilhoso, Conjunto e Orquestra – Sambas Nr. 2 (1963), for RGE. Musicians on the recording session are not credit, but everybody knows that Don Junior is the might Argentinean born sax player Hector Costita with the supervision and musical direction of Maestro Pocho, also known as Ruben Perez. If you had the chance to watch the last video with vintage Rio de Janeiro images, you will remember the wonderful sax as background music by Don Junior. Now it is the chance to have it on a solo LP. Tracks include:

01 – Só Danço Samba (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Ah Se Eu Pudesse (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
03 – Nós e o Mar (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
04 – Raízes (Denis Brean / Osvaldo Guilherme)
05 – Sambossa (Agostinho dos Santos / Ayres dos Santos)
06 – Boa Noite Rio (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
07 – O Barquinho (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
08 – A Mesma Rosa Amarela (Capiba / Carlos Penna Filho)
09 – Samba de Uma Nota Só (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)
10 – Volta Por Cima (Paulo Vanzolini)
11 – Foi a Saudade (Djalma Ferreira / Iza Ferreira)
12 – Samba do Avião (Tom Jobim)

.

Publicado em: Friday, March 02, 2007 by zecalouro

Today at 7pm, I started the upload of what was supposed to be the last post of the day. Now it is twenty past midnight and the gauge shows 93% complete. Just read an email from g picanco demonstrating what I thought it was a rumor: an abnormal activity of people using Brazilian government tax application at the same time is making traffic overload. Anyway, it is late, so I’m giving up that choice. However, the day is not ruined, just the opposite, this is a most wanted release and everybody will enjoy it. Thanks once again Caetano for this very hard to find LP.

This is The Girls from Bahia – Pardon my English (1967), for Warner. The Girls from Bahia is the name used for Quarteto em Cy on their initiative to conquer USA audiences in the late 60’s. This LP was recorded and released in the United States, featuring arrangements by Oscar Castro Neves and produced by Ray Gilbert and Aloysio de Oliveira. For the convenience of everybody, that nice Quarteto em Cy video with Marcos Valle at the Andy Williams Show is also being reposted bellow. Tracks include:

01 – Pardon My English (Samba Torto) (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira / Vrs. Ray Gilbert)
02 – Makin’ Whoopee (Donaldson / Kahn)
03 – Tears (Razão de Viver) (Eumir Deodato / Paulo Sergio Valle / Vrs. Ray Gilbert)
04 – Oh Susannah (Tradicional)
05 – Você (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli / Vrs. Ray Gilbert)
06 – Tup-a-tup (Até Londres) (Oscar Castro Neves)

It is amazing that Caetano has this LP and I’m very happy to share and introduce Pat Thomas and the music of Lalo Schifrin by this rare and obscure record. This is the first release of an international singer at this new journey of international Bossa Nova music. I’m not sure, but I think that many friends all around the world never had the chance to hear Pat Thomas. Let’s see what happens here.

This is Pat Thomas – Desafinado (60’s), for MGM, featuring the obscure Chicago singer Pat Thomas, the arrangements of Lalo Schifrin and the production of Creed Taylor. I think everybody will be surprised to see this post, supposed to be available at the next Caetano Rodrigues MD transfer and anticipated by zecalouro, lucky parrot that found this vinyl for less than a glass of tea on his last hunt at the old vinyl stores in Copacabana. Let’s see what happens. Maybe I’m wrong, instead of excited by a unknown release, everybody would know it, but don’t throw tomatoes at zecalouro, please. I’m curious.

This is Luiz Eca & Jerzy Milewski Ensemble – Duas Suites Instrumentais de Luiz Eca (1988), produced by Nestle, Brasil. This album was never commercially available; it was produced by Nestle Brazil for a marketing campaign, that’s why I think it is widely unknown outside Brazil. Duas Suites Instrumentais de Luiz Eca, features two Eca compositions, one for each side. Jerzy Milewski is a Polish violin player and also producer of this LP. Tracks include:

Gerry Mulligan with Jane Duboc – Paraiso (1993)

Link na Internet Wayback Machine: Gerry Mulligan with Jane Duboc – Paraiso (1993)
Publicado em: Thursday, March 01, 2007

Friends, I don’t know what is going on today with the Internet in Brazil, I’m reaching Loronix such as the old times and those leased line connections and 1200/75 modems. I hope they get it fixed very soon. I’m happy to have some of Caetano’s contribution prepared in advance, but the choices are limited. Anyway, maybe we go business as usual in a matter of minutes.

Meanwhile, I want to show a very beautiful album sent by Caetano Rodrigues to Loronixers that is widely unknown in Brazil and probably outside also, showing a collaboration of a Brazilian singer that was never released at Loronix with an American Jazz legend. Let’s see how it works.

This is Gerry Mulligan with Jane Duboc – Paraiso (1993), for Telarc (USA), nice and unusual collaboration between the really legendary sax and clarinet player Gerry Mulligan and the Brazilian singer Jane Duboc. Gerry Mulligan is listed as the main performer, but it seems that this album is a Jane Duboc solo release. Gerry Mulligan plays in all tracks staying on background and making eventual solos. Most of the songs are Mulligan / Duboc partnerships with three Brazilian standards by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Multi-purpose release for people in Brazil and outside, blending Jane Duboc and Gerry Mulligan. Tracks include:

01 – Paraíso (Gerry Mulligan / Jane Duboc)
02 – No Rio (Gerry Mulligan / Jane Duboc)
03 – Sob A Estrela (Gerry Mulligan / Jane Duboc)
04 – O Bom Alvinho (Gerry Mulligan / Jane Duboc)
05 – Willow Tree (Gerry Mulligan / Jane Duboc)
06 – Bordado (Gerry Mulligan / Jane Duboc)
07 – Tarde Em Itapoã (Toquinho / Vinicius de Moraes)
08 – Amor Em Paz (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
09 – Wave (Tom Jobim)
10 – Tema Pra Jobim (Gerry Mulligan / Joyce)
11 – North Atlantic Run (Gerry Mulligan)

The background music is Chorou Chorou, performed by Don Junior and carefully selected by this humble parrot.
Meanwhile, I’m leaving to buy batteries for taking cover pictures.

Awesome Helicopter Flight in 1967 – Rio de Janeiro

Here we go again on a complimentary celebration of Rio de Janeiro 442nd Anniversary. This is an really amazing video that .is being reposted. It was released at the beginning of Loronix and I think many of our new friends did not have the chance to watch.

This is an awesome helicopter flight music video with Roberto Carlos in Rio de Janeiro, 1967. Probably, the only film where a helicopter flights inside a tunnel with no special effects or cheating. Even if you don’t live in Rio de Janeiro, this is amazing by the music and landscapes. How the city has changed in 40 years.

Hope uEnjoy!

Publicado em: Thursday, March 01, 2007 by zecalouro

I happened again, not a tragedy and no big deal, just the willing to make things perfect, but the post we decided to be the great close of the day is cancelled. Perhaps tomorrow. But I’m not bored, the replacement is great. Look at the picture. This is a very hard to find album, requested by several Loronixers. Sent by Caetano Rodrigues, The Great.

This is Manfredo e Seu Conjunto – Evolucao (1964), for RGE, perhaps one of most sought after album released by Manfredo Fest. Take a special attention to the quality of these MP3s, ripped by Caetano Rodrigues on best of breed equipment. Caetano is also an expert on those mysterious cartridges, stylus, tone arms brands and serial numbers. It is amazing. He knows everything by heart and I learned a lot with him. This is all for the benefit of our community, the deliverables were improved a lot in the last weeks and issue reporting are being kept to a minimum.

I was supposed to speak about Manfredo Festand I’m here talking about equipments. It’s because the music is self-explanatory, missing on several serious collections and essential. Mr. JimR will be pleased. Thanks Caetano. Tracks include:

PersonnelDorimar Vasconcelos

Álvaro Brito
(vibrafone)
Luis De Andrade “Boneca”

Rob McCornnell & The Boss Brass – Atras da Porta (1983)

Publicado em: Wednesday, February 28, 2007 by zecalouro

Here we go again on another really above the average release by Caetano Rodrigues, truly great this time. I said before that I have limited knowledge and with the music made outside of Brazil, even if is based on Bossa Nova and Brazilian music, such like the fine releases we are having on this new and fantastic Caetano contribution.

In the other hand, I’m a parrot drove by feelings and experience accumulated by a few years as musician and several years as a music fan and avid listener. The first time someone sent me a Jazz record, my listening expectation was exactly what I just heard today when hearing this piece, full of solos, soulful arrangements, different situations throughout the record and within tracks, etc.

This is Rob McConnell & The Boss Brass – Atras da Porta (1983), for MCA. Rob McConnell is a renowned valve piston player and the Boss Brass is a awesome big band, active since the mid 70’s with several members, so many that I could not cope with the big listing. Caetano has a special appreciation for this album and I think I will get used to it very soon. The ultimate experience will be tomorrow with zecalouro, checking his parrot reaction to this big 48 minutes set. Tracks include:

01 – Flowers
02 – Jo Jos Dance
03 – Atras da Porta
04 – Amor Ate o Fim
05 – Autumn in New York
06 – Jobim Meddley
07 – Didi
08 – Bye Bye Blues

This is Rob McConnell & The Boss Brass – Atras da Porta (1983), at Loronix, here waiting to be reissued for Liquid Music label.

Vince Guaraldi / Bola Sete – y Sus Amigos (1963)

Publicado em: Wednesday, February 28, 2007 by zecalouro

I’m just leaving a phone call with Caetano to make the decision of the posts of the day and this one was taken with no hesitation from both parts, actually, when we remember this pick we both shout out loud as we were on a soccer stadium, saying YEEES! Muito bom! É ESSE MESMO and other terms that are not appropriate. Let’s check the reason for this great enthusiasm.

This is Vince Guaraldi and Bola Sete – & Sus Amigos (1963), for Fantasy, the first of a series of collaborations of the great Brazilian guitar player Bola Sete and the jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi, featuring Bola Sete (guitar, arrangements), Vince Guaraldi (piano, arrangements), Fred Marshall (bass) and Jerry Granelli (drums). The first thing that came to my mind when I heard this album was: “these guys are long-time friends”. Big mistake of mine, I read that they knew each other one day before the recording session. Caetano kindly present us a Spanish edition, the US edition is Vince Guaraldi / Bola Sete & Friends. Tracks include:

01 – Days of Wine and Roses
02 – Star Song
03 – Mambossa
04 – Moon Rays
