Here we go again with another contribution, something very hard to track down information about. Zub Zub sent this record, the coolest alias I have seen for months. The nice Zub Zub, which I don’t know if is a she or a he, runs the amazing Blog Magic of Juju (another cool name) dedicated to obscure and rare music from the 5 continents that you will not find on any other website. Make a try at Magic of Juju (http://magicofjuju.blogspot.com) to enjoy Zub Zub pearls and also say thank you for this nice release.

This is Nestor Amaral and His Continentals – Brazil (1957), 10′, for Golden Tone (USA), on my discography of choice, listed as the last Nestor Amaral record. I’m not a Nestor Amaral authority, but it seems that he is much more recognized outside of Brazil. Nestor was music director for Carmem Miranda for many years. He had also an important collaboration and partnership with Laurindo Almeida, they worked together on Radio and Laurindo considers Nestor as one of the best voices and guitar players of that time. Nestor Amaral was also member of the legendary O Bando da Lua. Tracks include:

01 – Brazil
02 – Pra Que Discutir
03 – Currupaco
04 – Porto Alegre
05 – Batucada
06 – Tico
07 – Baia
08 – Bamba no Samba

.

Este disco pode ser buscado no Stax o’ Wax. A versão lá disponibilizada tem título “Holiday in Brazil” (capa acima) e 3 músicas a mais: “Playtime in Brazil”, “Nossa Amizade” e “Belem Bayonee”. A outra versão do disco (que tem apenas 8 músicas) tem a capa abaixo:

Thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoyed the album enough to share.

By the way – it is a 12″ record, not a 10″ – and I think I’ve nailed the date down to 1957

The cover doesn't say "Holiday in.." anywhere, though the track listing matches.

Zub Zub and Zecalouro,

This record is of 1957 according to this reference:
http://www.bsnpubs.com/pri/tops1500.html

Of course, I like TICO TICO, it reminds me of Carmen Miranda,
but I know a very interesting version of it by Ike Quebec too.

Cheers,

Well, a little seredipity here as I ran across the later pressing of this album this weekend which has a different cover and the words "Holiday in…" added to the title.
Mystery "solved"…

Zub Zub,

Thanks for it. This cover is really better than the last one. Blogging life sometimes is not that easy.

And long live to Magic of JuJu.

Cheers, zecalouro

I picked this record up (with the blue cover) in a thrift shop in Chicago in the mid 80's when I first got into brazilian music, and have always loved it. Still one of my favorite versions of "Bahia." Thanks for the rip, sounds better than my copy.
