This release closes the amazing series of three EPs sent by our great friend Caetano Rodrigues to Loronixers. Once again, something that most of us could ever realize the existence. This EP, for instance, is not included on any discography. I could only find a reference on gemm.com, which seems to be the best place for search Caetano’s impossible to find records.
Meet Os Ipanemas – Os Ipanemas (1964) EP, for CBS, with a song never released in any other record, including the 1964 LP for CBS, Batida Diferente. Just to refresh our memory, Os Ipanemas is the legendary instrumental band that features Astor Silva (trombone), Marinho (bass), Wilson das Neves (drums and percussion), Rubens Bassini (drums and percussion) and Neco (acoustic guitar).
Os Ipanemas LP is available at Loronix, highly recommended; check the 06 August 2006 archive, it is right there. Tracks include:
01 – Garota de Ipanema (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Berimbau (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
03 – Kenya (Astor Silva / Rubens Bassini)
04 – Batida Diferente (Durval Ferreira)

Não tinha este EP. Graças à Grazi e ao Milan Filipovic, ele agora está disponível no Parallel Realities.
O LP dos Ipanemas ao qual o Zeca se refere foi republicado no Loronix em 27 de julho de 2007 e, portanto, aparecerá aqui posteriormente.

Zeca, this is interesting. Unless I’m mistaken, the CD version (of the complete LP) includes only three of the four tracks on this EP. “Batida Diferente” is not on the Mr. Bongo CD from a few years ago.
The CD included:

EPs in Brazil were always interesting as they differ in how they relate to the album most recently released by the artist. Sometimes, all 4 songs appear on the parent album. Other times you get one song from the LP and three B-sides. Sometimes, 2 LP tracks and 2 B-sides. Other times you get 3 songs from the album plus a bonus non-LP track. And sometimes the EP is a “mini-album” with 4 fresh songs not found on any full-length album. I really like those!

Exactly, we cannot forget to check the EPs to find some missing pearls. In this case, I could not realize that this LP even exists before Caetano sent to us.

This record & “Meu Balanço” [1975 CBS] by Waltel Branco were the first 2 reissue releases around ten years ago by Mr.Bongo U.K. Very important releases at the beginning of the Brasilian music re-investigation.
